'Top Gun: Maverick' is enjoying the lowest drop in history for a movie opening to $100 million or more, becoming Tom Cruise's biggest film in the U.S.

00:12Top Gun Maverick is showing no signs of slowing down. The 10-pole starring Tom Cruise earned a
00:17massive $90 million in its second weekend. The numbers show the smallest decline ever,
00:2229% for a movie opening domestically to $100 million or more.
00:27Top Gun Maverick has now earned $295.6 million through Sunday in North America and more than
00:33$552 million globally. Top Gun 2 continues to fly high overseas where it earned another $81.7
00:42million this weekend for a foreign tally of $257 million. My dad believed in you. I'm not going
00:50to make the same mistake. On Saturday, Top Gun Maverick became Cruise's top grossing film
00:56domestically, surpassing 2005's The War of the Worlds, which earned $243.3 million,
01:02not adjusted for inflation. The movie's performance is seen as a huge win for the summer box office,
01:08showing signs that people are eager to get back to theaters after the past two pandemic-fueled years.
01:13Other weekend highlights included Marvel and Disney's Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness
01:25crossing $900 million. The film placed No. 2 domestically with $9.3 million in its fifth
01:31outing for a domestic total of $388.7 million. Overseas, it earned $520.7 million for a cume of $909.4 million.
