00:00I am, as ever, in bewildered awe of anyone who makes this kind of commitment.
00:08Mindy Kaling is recommitting to Hulu, this time with her Four Weddings and a Funeral
00:12Anthology adaptation, which has been given a series order. Kaling wrote the limited
00:16series remake with Matt Wilburton, who served as showrunner on her series The Mindy
00:20Project. The remake follows a group of friends whose lives intertwine during five
00:24events, yep, four weddings and one funeral.
00:26May Almighty God bless you all, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
00:33Richard Curtis, the writer of the original 1994 film starring Hugh Grant and
00:37Annie McDowell, is one of the show's executive producers and it's unclear if Kaling
00:41will have an on-screen role. The long-anticipated series order marks a reunion
00:44between Hulu and Kaling. The Mindy Project streamed three new seasons on Hulu after
00:48the streamer snapped up the comedy, saving it from cancellation at Fox. The series
00:52ended November 14 with the finale of its sixth season.
00:55In an interview for THR's April 25 cover story on Hulu, head of content Craig
00:59Erwitch said of Kaling,
01:00Mindy embodies Hulu. She's funny, she's highly intelligent, she's confident and stylish.
01:05She's somebody that we really want to be in business with. Kaling has been very busy
01:09since The Mindy Project wrapped. She starred in Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time and
01:13co-created comedy series Champions for NBC, which she also executive produces. Next,
01:18she'll be seen alongside Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett in Oceans 8, which hits theaters
01:21June 8. Hulu has had a run of success with adaptations recently. The most obvious example, of course,
01:26is The Handmaid's Tale, based on Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel, currently in its second season.
01:31The dystopian series has earned critical acclaim and won more than 30 awards, including the
01:36Emmy for Best Drama series, as well as The Golden Globe and Peabody. Unsurprisingly, The
01:40Handmaid's Tale has also been renewed for a third season. The show was developed during the
01:44Obama administration, but has become increasingly relevant since Donald Trump was elected
01:48president. Meanwhile, Hulu also confirmed its straight-to-series order for Blumhouse television
01:53horror anthology, Into the Dark. The series will feature 12 standalone feature-length episodes,
01:58with new installments debuting the first Friday of every month throughout the year,
02:01starting October 5. So, are you excited for Mindy Kaling's four weddings and a funeral
02:05and a third season of The Handmaid's Tale? Let us know in the comments.
