This week Heat Vision Breakdown looks ahead at Mahershala Ali's Blade including how it will differ from Wesley Snipes' three films and when will we see the character first enter the MCU?
Transcript
00:00Hello friends, will Marvel Studios finally make an R-rated film?
00:03Do you mean like Deadpool?
00:04No.
00:05No, I do not mean like Deadpool, because Deadpool was released by Fox.
00:08Uh, Disney owns Fox.
00:09Disney owns everything!
00:11This week on Heat Vision Breakdown, we look ahead to Mahershala Ali's Blade, and why it's
00:14unlikely it will be as violent as Wesley Snipes' three films, but why that doesn't necessarily
00:18mean it will be an unfaithful comic adaptation.
00:2521 years ago, Wesley Snipes kicked off the modern superhero movie craze with Blade, a
00:29stylish, violent tale of a half-vampire, half-Oakly Sunglasses enthusiast who kicks ass, takes
00:34names, and kills creatures of the night.
00:36Not cats, though.
00:37He doesn't kill cats.
00:41Blade was a surprise hit, and a much-needed win for Marvel, which was recovering from baker-up-sea
00:45and had never made a successful big-screen movie at the time.
00:48As such, it might seem almost disrespectful not to take lessons from Snipes' Blade, a film
00:52that gave on to Marvel so much, and asked only that Stephen Dorff be made a movie star
00:55in return.
00:56Snipes' version of the character is what many think of when they hear the name Blade,
00:59and with good reason.
01:00It's worth noting that Snipes himself has been gracious in passing the torch to Ali,
01:04calling the Oscar winner a beautiful and talented artist after it was revealed at San Diego
01:08Comic-Con that he would be stepping into the role.
01:10In the comics, Blade took a violent turn in his Marvel Max series in 2002, but much of
01:14the character's nearly 50-year history has actually been PG-13.
01:17Obviously, blood is a big factor in Blade lore, but the amount of graphic gore and carnage that
01:22is currently associated with the franchise wasn't a key component of the
01:27comics for most of its history.
01:28Blade has also largely existed in his own corner, not interacting with other heroes.
01:32But in the MCU, a place where everyone meets despite being separated by literal galaxies,
01:36it is likely he will team up with others, particularly when you have a talent on the level of Mahershal
01:41playing the character.
01:42Even in the comics, Blade has begun to interact with other heroes more.
01:46Over the past few months, Marvel Comics, perhaps aware of the Comic-Con surprise, has been
01:50building Blade up to become a more integral part of their universe.
01:53He recently joined the Avengers, leading the charge in the War of the Vampires storyline
01:57that sees Dracula overthrown and several new vampire threats.
02:00Ooh.
02:01Makes sense that Blade would be a part of that.
02:02The Vampire Hunter was also prominent in Marvel's big 2019 event, War of the Realms, and will soon
02:07join Marvel's new ongoing strike force that sees the Vampire Hunter join forces with
02:11Hellstrom, Monica Rambeau, Angela, Winter Soldier, and Spider Woman.
02:15In short, Blade is currently living his best life and is becoming more prominent within
02:18Marvel Comics' larger universe.
02:20Now, if they'd only give him his own comic book.
02:22In the MCU, it seems like a team up with Doctor Strange could be in order.
02:25Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is Marvel's first horror film, or so says
02:30Kevin Feige.
02:31Could we see Blade appear in the post-credits scene of that film, leading up to his own solo
02:35movie?
02:36Maybe.
02:37Morbius is coming as a standalone film in Sony's Marvel Universe, you know, the place where
02:40Tom Hardy is Venom, even though his movie has no mention of Spider-Man.
02:43No matter how much, producer Amy Pascal awkwardly mentions the idea in front of Kevin Feige.
02:47But it will still all be in the same world, and they will be connected to each other as
02:52well.
02:53So no, don't expect Blade to show up in a documentary of Jared Leto's life.
02:56I mean, Morbius, the living vampire.
02:58Next July.
02:59Ironically, it's more likely Spidey and Blade will share screen time together long before
03:03Blade and Morbius ever do.
03:04Is that ironic?
03:06What's irony?
03:07Regardless, now that we know Ali is Blade, we're bound to see him soon, right?
03:10How long are you going to make us wait, Feige?
03:12We're not immortal!
03:13So how do you guys think Blade will be introduced in the MCU?
03:15You think he'll show up in Doctor Strange?
03:17You think maybe he'll just kind of suck Bucky's blood in one of these movies?

03:25I'm sorry about what I said, Steven Dorf.
03:26You're great.
