00:30Each week, I'll be joined by two celebrity crafters...
00:35..going head-to-head to make the best decorations.
00:41Ooh, it's a contest.
00:43Oh, that is fabulous.
00:46I mean, I'm supposed to pick a winner, aren't I?
00:48Together, we'll be sprucing up our trees...
00:51..butter perfection.
00:52I think I've gone a bit rogue.
00:54Yes!
00:56..and sparkling up our centrepieces.
00:58Nice little filded pipe.
01:00Wow.
01:00I've just seen how much you've got.
01:03It was a really bad idea.
01:06So grab your glue guns and let's get Christmas crafting.
01:22Let the festive fun begin.
01:25What do you think?
01:26It's like the place, isn't it?
01:28I think so.
01:29You don't want to get done for breaking and entering.
01:32I've rested on our first date.
01:33Exactly.
01:34That's before a sherry.
01:37Today, I'm joined by actor, podcaster and comedy matriarch
01:41Hillary Whitehall
01:42and Corrie legend, Tony Maudsley.
01:46Ready to try their hands at some Christmas creativity.
01:49I love a bit of crafting.
01:49Is this up your street?
01:50Yeah.
01:50I have to say that I feel I'm slightly more in the gifted amateur.
01:55I'm excited, actually, because I love a bit of crafting.
01:58I won't say I'm an expert.
02:00When my son, Jack, did art projects at school, I did get involved.
02:05No teacher actually ever said, well done, Mrs Whitehall, but I know they thought it.
02:11Well, that's ten steps ahead of me.
02:13I think the last time I made something, I must have been about five, and I made a mess of it then.
02:16I'm excited, but I'm also nervous because I don't want to make a mess of things.
02:20Who knows how I'm going to fare today?
02:22Fingers crossed.
02:23I'm going to let you do the honour.
02:24Oh, thank you.
02:28Hello.
02:30Hello.
02:31I'm not in the mood for Christmas at all.
02:36That's how Christmassy I'm feeling.
02:39Oh.
02:40Sparkling people.
02:42Are you excited?
02:43Yeah.
02:43Yeah, I'm excited.
02:44Yeah, let's do it.
02:50Everything my celebrity guests make over the next few weeks is to transform this beautiful house into a magical Christmas party venue for some very deserving people.
03:00So, let's crack on.
03:02So, are you excited?
03:03Really excited.
03:04Yes?
03:05Yes.
03:05So, have you done much crafting before?
03:07A fair bit with the children, and then there was a big break, and now I've got grandchildren.
03:11So, I'm needing to hone these skills up now.
03:13Right, I can work on that, I can work on that.
03:15Yeah.
03:15How about you, Tony?
03:16Big crafter?
03:17I think probably the last time I crafted it was two years ago.
03:21I decided to make my own front door wreath.
03:23Wow.
03:24Yeah.
03:24I mean, it started off this big, and it finished off this big.
03:27You nearly pulled the front door off its hinges.
03:29Oh, a more is more kind of guy.
03:31Yeah, yeah.
03:31I'm a man after my own character.
03:32I'm hoping you can teach me some refinement today.
03:34Right, okay, so, we're going to do some Christmas stars.
03:38Right.
03:38Two, three, four, five.
03:39You need five straws for this.
03:42However big you want your star is how big we're going to cut these down to.
03:45He's definitely going to want a big one, because we already know he goes large.
03:49I'm going to be keeping a close eye on you both over the course of the day to see who does the best.
03:53We're in competition here, Hilary.
03:56Allegedly, I'm a bad loser.
03:58Choose your weapon.
04:01You two look dangerous with those glue guns.
04:03So, I'm going to go, I think, about half the size here.
04:07Okay.
04:08So, and all you're going to do is you're going to cut all five of your straws down.
04:12Okay.
04:13There we go.
04:13Right.
04:14Okay, a little bit of twine, everyone, yeah?
04:16This will be a brilliant one you could do with the grandkids, Hilary.
04:19Right.
04:20What we're going to do, then, is you're just going to thread your twine through your straws.
04:25As we lick important.
04:26Oh, yes.
04:27Very, very essential.
04:28We're putting all of them through.
04:30You're going to thread all five of these.
04:33Onto a chain.
04:34Yes.
04:35You know what's happening here?
04:36What's happening here?
04:38Remember when you were five years old and you would be concentrating at school and your tongue would go...
04:41I've just noticed myself doing it.
04:46Right.
04:47So, once you've got your little necklace of paper straws, all we're going to do is tie them together at the top.
04:54We're going to just pull them tight.
04:56Right.
04:57Once we get to there, you just take any two of them together.
05:00Yeah.
05:00And once you've got the two together, just twist them.
05:02Yeah.
05:03And once they're twisted, it goes underneath at the top.
05:06Yeah.
05:07And once it's underneath, you can untwist the twist.
05:11Oh, yeah.
05:12Got it.
05:13Got it.
05:13I'm back to where I started.
05:15Did that happen?
05:16Yeah.
05:16Let me do that again.
05:17Twist two of them together.
05:18I had a bit of a problem with the paper straws.
05:20It's my fat fingers, you see.
05:22I mean, Hillary was like in and out and she whipped up her star.
05:26Help, Hillary.
05:27Twist.
05:27Yeah.
05:28Then up underneath.
05:30Yeah.
05:30And then you just pull them apart.
05:32Pull them at the bottom.
05:33That's pulling the wrong one apart.
05:34Oh, yes.
05:35Love it.
05:36That looks good.
05:37Thank you for your help.
05:38Yes.
05:39That is so simple.
05:40Hillary's nailed that.
05:41I've done two now.
05:43I'm on a roll.
05:44I'm on a roll.
05:44She's on a roll.
05:45She is on a roll.
05:46Oh, these will look great on the Christmas tree, won't they?
05:49Definitely.
05:50Okay, the killer question.
05:52Go on.
05:52When is it acceptable to get the tree up?
05:546th of November.
05:566th of November?
05:576th of November?
05:58Get bonfire and I was up the way first.
05:59And then it starts to feel Christmas, doesn't it?
06:01I don't want it just there for two weeks.
06:03I want it there for two months.
06:04I want to enjoy it once it's done.
06:06I'm mad after my own heart.
06:07Yeah.
06:08I love the Christmas day.
06:09How about in your house?
06:10Michael Whitehall, if he had his way, would have it up on Christmas Eve and down by Boxing
06:15Night.
06:15Yes.
06:16We have an argument every year about it.
06:18And I usually win, actually.
06:19It's up for much longer than he would like.
06:22So the tree that I bought, the light's built in.
06:25I love a coloured light.
06:27Michael likes white.
06:28And every time I walk past, I put it onto multicoloured flashing.
06:31And every time he walks past, he puts it onto white static.
06:36So you know who's been through the room last.
06:39Can we take a moment to Nordisk?
06:41Hello.
06:42How are you?
06:43Oh, on your own.
06:43Oh, yes, no.
06:44We've got three now.
06:45Oh, you two are so cute.
06:47It's only mozzy stuff.
06:48Yes.
06:48There you go.
06:49Well, now we've covered level one star making.
07:04Yes.
07:04I want you to make a five-point star with five sticks.
07:10Thank you.
07:10Five sticks for you, sir.
07:11One, two, three, four.
07:12Five sticks for you, lovely.
07:14Thank you.
07:15All you're going to do is basically replicate this.
07:17And then once we've got the star made, we're going to use the glue gun.
07:21OK.
07:22To just hold that star in place.
07:25Now, do we need any glue gun training, you two?
07:27I mean, I've never used a glue gun, so all training, very welcome.
07:30OK, right.
07:31So I've put mine on my little bit of cardboard.
07:34What we'll do is we'll position the first bits down just to hold them in place.
07:38Do we need to wiggle it about to get glue all over it or just...?
07:41So, once they're held in place, we can go and add more glue to make sure it's really well stuck.
07:45OK, does it matter that it's not perfect?
07:46No, because we're going to perfect it a little bit later.
07:49When you were making things for Jack when he was a kid, how did you survive without a glue gun?
07:55Well, do you know, one of my proudest moments, I don't know if you remember, the Tracey Island Christmas debacle.
08:02Oh, Tracey Island.
08:04Thunderbirds.
08:04I made it.
08:05So my mum made me a Tracey Island.
08:07Yes.
08:07I would have a papier-mâché and toilet glass.
08:09Yes!
08:10Tracey Island.
08:10Oh, so she's definitely a crafter, then.
08:13Sadly, I think it was my finest hour.
08:15Yeah, well, I hear that's been downhill ever since, but...
08:18Sarah?
08:19Yes?
08:19I think I might have glued my stars at the table.
08:23I've just noticed...
08:24Don't you worry.
08:24We'll just strategically tap it off.
08:27Right, we'll come up.
08:28Look, mine's come up in one piece.
08:30How did you get that off the table, Hilary?
08:32I got the scissors and just eased it off.
08:35It's coming, it's coming.
08:37There you go.
08:39Look at that.
08:39Is it feeling pretty sturdy?
08:41It is feeling pretty sturdy.
08:42Yeah?
08:42Are we ready to move on to the next step?
08:43We are.
08:43I think we are.
08:44Right.
08:45What we're going to do is we're going to wrap our star in jute twine.
08:50Now, you can either tie a knot in it to get it started, or you can stick it down with a bit of hot glue.
08:55Right, so what I'm doing is I'm just wrapping it round a few times.
09:00Yes, just generally randomly.
09:02Generally randomly.
09:03Round each arm.
09:04Round each arm, but then what we need to do is every now and again is pop a little glob of hot glue,
09:10just so that we keep it nice and tight.
09:13These are starting to look really good, and they're starting to take shape, don't they?
09:17And come on, this is just a bit of jute twine.
09:19Yeah.
09:20Do you think you'll get Jack doing any crafting?
09:22Do you know what?
09:23He's quite arty, Jack.
09:24Is he?
09:25He was an art scholar at school.
09:27Really?
09:27Yeah, and went and did history of art at Manchester University for about ten seconds.
09:31Really?
09:32That's a comedy career, guy.
09:34What I do want you all to do at some point as well is find out which way your star's looking the best.
09:41So it'll look nicer.
09:43That is my top there looking really good.
09:46Yeah.
09:46What I'm going to do is, while I'm here, I'm going to put a little blob of glue and I'm going to give myself a nice little loop to hang it and then wrap it round a couple of more times.
09:58You two are getting on great there.
09:59Do you know what I'm going to do while you're doing that?
10:02I've been working on a bigger one.
10:04Oh, size of that?
10:06I'm feeling slightly inadequate now with our little stars.
10:08Exactly the same technique.
10:10I've just used bigger dowels and I'm going to add a little bit of twine onto that one while you are going.
10:16A little bit of extra gourd twine.
10:17Gourd twine.
10:18To finish it off, you've just got to cut the end and we're just going to glue the end in.
10:22Right.
10:23Hillary's going for it.
10:24Going for the snip and the glue.
10:26Slip and the prod, presumably.
10:28I prodded it in a little bit.
10:30What did you do then?
10:31You glued it and buried it.
10:32Buried it.
10:32Yeah.
10:34I've given you some lights there, by the way.
10:35You can be unwinding your lights.
10:39Yes, we'll have a light.
10:40Do you want me to unwind them for you, Tony?
10:42I am about to make a holy mess of this, aren't I?
10:44Let's do a swap then.
10:45So glad you're here, Sarah.
10:46Do you know what?
10:47I'll keep you right.
10:48Do you think you could get any of your curry cast crafting?
10:50Absolutely.
10:51Yeah?
10:51Yeah.
10:51There you go.
10:52They're all very jealous when I filmed them when I was coming here.
10:54Is that right?
10:54Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:55Oh, I love that.
10:56How long have you been in curry?
10:58I've been in curry for six years.
11:00Wow.
11:00Six years, yeah.
11:01Wow.
11:01I used to love Benidorm.
11:03Oh, did you?
11:04Oh, I loved Benidorm.
11:05Yeah.
11:06Amazing.
11:06You know, I've got my hot pants under this table.
11:09Oh, we're back to you.
11:10Show you.
11:11Hello.
11:11We did one Christmas episode, which was shot in the middle of the summer.
11:18So it was about 32 degrees.
11:19We had Tim Healy stood on the roof of the Benidorm Palace with his wig on, sweating, spraying snow all over the road.
11:30Are you going with the lights?
11:32Yeah, so we're just twirling it round, do we?
11:34Stick them on and then just hide that inside at the back.
11:38And then we're just going to wind the lights round.
11:41Yeah.
11:41Switch them on, Tony.
11:42Let's see how they're looking.
11:43Oh, yes.
11:45And I've just given you a nice little sprig that we can add on to the edge as well.
11:50You've gone mad.
11:51Nice little bit of foliage on the edge there.
11:54Right.
11:55So all I've done on my big one there is added a nice ribbon to be able to hang it up with the stairs.
12:01Oh, nice.
12:01That's nice.
12:02Tied a little bow on the front and then these are just, they just all pop in.
12:07It adds a nice little something, doesn't it?
12:10I'm going to celebrate this.
12:12This is, again, so simple but so effective.
12:17I mean, it looks kind of rustic, looks like it should be on a tree.
12:22Loving the glue gun as well.
12:23I definitely want a glue gun.
12:25And then all I added was a little bit of extra gourd time.
12:27Gourd time.
12:28And it just gives it that little bit of something else.
12:30Yeah, a bit of lean, yeah.
12:31But it's exactly the same technique as you two have finished anyway.
12:34We have.
12:35How will it look?
12:36Oh, look at those.
12:38I might display it with my other star.
12:40Oh, look.
12:41Could I just say something about your star?
12:43Go on.
12:43It would make a fabulous athlete because it's got quite a wide base.
12:48Like myself.
12:50I'm not gloating here, but I'm pretty impressed with my star.
12:54I really am.
12:54Our personalities have come through in our stars.
12:57We've seen Hillary's.
12:58Theirs is all athletic and neat and a bit like Hillary, nice and slender.
13:03Mine's a bit rough and ready, a bit round, round the edges.
13:06And there's also a star with a very wide base.
13:09Well, you know what I'm thinking, of course, don't you?
13:14That I'm now going to have to make two more because I've got three grandchildren.
13:17So I'll leave one out.
13:18Make one for each.
13:19Well, Hillary, don't you worry.
13:20I've got plenty of crafting lined up the rest of the day for us.
13:23We are just getting started.
13:25Ready to start on the next big meal?
13:26Ready for level three.
13:27Bring it on.
13:27Have you been out in the garden yet?
13:50Hello, mate.
13:50I've had a cheeky walk around.
13:51Wicked off a few bits of branches that we might use later.
13:54Hey, up.
13:54Oh, hello.
13:55Someone's been shopping.
13:56Oh.
13:56I told you we were going big.
13:58Nice.
13:58I told you.
14:00What a magic tick.
14:01I love that we can get creative without needing weeks of prep.
14:04Just a little bit of foliage and an Amazon delivery.
14:08Right.
14:09So, I've got everything we needed.
14:12Oh, it's like Christmas.
14:13Well, funny you should say that.
14:15A little bit of for snow.
14:17Oh.
14:17Oh, it's Christmas without snow.
14:19Well, for snow and Epsom salts.
14:22Oh, it works great for a snowy look.
14:25Okay, I've got some glittery yarn.
14:27Oh, of course you have.
14:28A little bit of felt.
14:30Oh, now this is right up my store.
14:31I love a bit of felt.
14:32Now, I've got plenty of little twigs.
14:34I didn't know how good we'd be able to forage those.
14:37I'm slightly curious about the Epsom salts.
14:39Yes, I am.
14:40Is there a hot tub in the garden?
14:41You wish, Hilary.
14:43You wish.
14:43And then this.
14:45Oh.
14:46Whoa.
14:47We're going to be crafting with.
14:48Wow.
14:49Look at that.
14:49Right.
14:50So.
14:51A few biscuits in there, couldn't you?
14:53Oh, no.
14:54Actually, we're not going biscuits.
14:56That's a shame.
14:57No Christmas cookies.
14:58What we are going to do is we're going to create a whole scene inside the big jar.
15:02Nice.
15:03Liking that.
15:04Yeah.
15:05Right, come on then.
15:05You've got one jar each.
15:07Here you go, Hilary.
15:08Oh, thank you very much.
15:09Heavy.
15:10Lovely, thank you.
15:11So, Tony, I'm going to need those little artist palettes.
15:14Oh, we're getting properly artistic now.
15:17I thought that was for eggs.
15:19So your eggs didn't fall over.
15:20Quare legs.
15:21Quare legs, yeah.
15:22At that size.
15:22Right, pass me them here and I'll put us a little bit of glue in the middle of each of them.
15:26So this is just a regular PVA glue.
15:28Plenty of it.
15:29Right.
15:30And then we're going to need those Epsom salts.
15:32And what we're going to do is we're going to create a snow scene with a little bit of a window.
15:39Oh.
15:39So that you can look into the jar, but you've got snow in the background.
15:43Okay, so you could take your lid off if you wanted.
15:45And I would recommend doing a little bit at a time.
15:49So maybe we'd do a round dwindle, first of all.
15:52Yeah.
15:52I'm going for a wavy bottom.
15:54Are you?
15:55Hello.
15:56Oh, Tony's getting all artsy.
15:59Hello.
15:59So now that I've hasted the glass, how do I get the salt on?
16:04We're going to paint and then we're just going to literally tap the salt.
16:08With the hands?
16:09With your hands.
16:10A sprinkle situation.
16:12A sprinkling situation.
16:13I like it.
16:14Yeah.
16:14But I assume we're doing the salts on this tray so that I'm going in.
16:18Yes, I'm going in.
16:19She's going in.
16:20I'm going in.
16:21This is lovely because it's very messy.
16:23You're very messy.
16:24Yep.
16:24How are you getting on there, Tony?
16:25You've been very quiet.
16:27I'm in the zone.
16:28I'm in the zone.
16:29I'm just about to...
16:29Oh, sorry, I'm nicking the salts there.
16:32Is that a bit of sabotage going on there, Tony?
16:35Not at all.
16:36This is a competition.
16:37Oh, this is so satisfying.
16:39Isn't it?
16:40Making a mess without getting told up for it.
16:42It's great.
16:42Yeah, exactly.
16:43I love it.
16:44So, Tony, I'm guessing you've probably filmed Christmas on Corrie already,
16:48haven't you?
16:48We have.
16:49So, on about the 1st of October, you come down to the set
16:52and you can smell turkey and you can smell a roast dinner.
16:55It's about 8 o'clock in the morning, when you've just finished your scrambled eggs,
16:58you then have to sit down and eat a full-on cooked Christmas dinner,
17:03which our brilliant art department has normally been up all night cooking this Christmas dinner.
17:06Oh, lovely.
17:07Which is brilliant.
17:08Oh, I feel like I'm getting all the behind-the-scenes gossip here as well.
17:12What do you want to know?
17:13Anyone get a bit, uh, leery around Christmas?
17:17Well, a few people will probably get murdered as it's Coronation Street, you know.
17:21But that's fine, though.
17:22They keep me busy because I'm the undertaker, so...
17:24Oh, right.
17:25Of course.
17:25I usually have a very busy Christmas.
17:27That's not good.
17:28Probably don't need to put more salt on it.
17:30No, I think that looks great.
17:32Now, I think we should leave those 10 minutes
17:34and let's do a bit of a clean-up, get the Epsom salts off the table
17:37and then we can charge you and the fraction to go inside.
17:39OK.
17:46OK, so while they are just drying a little bit,
17:49I thought, should we start and make our bits to go inside?
17:51Yes, please.
17:52Yes, right, so you've got some glittery yarn
17:54and I thought we could all make an angel
17:56and then we could dangle her down from the top.
17:58Nice.
17:59Have you made any angels before?
18:00Only in the snow.
18:01Yeah.
18:02Oh.
18:02So, piece of cardboard.
18:04Yeah.
18:05And what we're going to do is we're going to wrap
18:06this round our cardboard.
18:11I mean, we're obviously going to make our tassel into an angel,
18:14but, I mean, this is how you would make tassels to decorate anything.
18:17Tassel-tastic.
18:18It is tassel-tastic, Hilary.
18:20I love it.
18:22Yeah.
18:23Or my angel to be as chubby as my star.
18:25Oh.
18:25You want a chubby angel?
18:26Chubby angel.
18:27Right, if you want a chubby angel,
18:29then maybe he's had a little bit more then.
18:31Yeah.
18:31I think I might leave mine.
18:33I think she'll be quite nice.
18:35OK.
18:35How's that?
18:36He's still got that to look good.
18:37Yeah.
18:37To look good.
18:38Right, so, if you trim off your yarn, right,
18:44then what I do want you to do is cut yourself.
18:48Now, we need quite a long piece
18:49because we're going to dangle her from the top of our jars with this.
18:55So, we can always trim it later.
18:56OK, OK.
18:57Yeah.
18:57Yeah, looking good.
18:59Looking good for the week.
18:59With a flourish.
19:00Looking good.
19:01Oh, she's there with the scissors.
19:03Thread it through.
19:04Yeah.
19:05And then tie it at the top.
19:07Oh, Nick.
19:07Literally, it's going to tie.
19:08Just tie it, just tie a knot at the top.
19:10Nice and tight.
19:12Right?
19:12So, if that's going to be our top,
19:14what we're going to do is just take it off the, off here first.
19:19Unless we've wound it too tight.
19:21Yeah.
19:21No, you've got that.
19:23And then we're just trimming through them all at the bottom.
19:25Yeah.
19:26Right.
19:27Right, I'm going to go flourish now.
19:29Oh.
19:29There we go.
19:30It's very satisfying, isn't it?
19:31It is, that noise.
19:32Yeah, I think Hilary's got the edge on me.
19:34She's very nimble with her fingers.
19:37So, I just need to be careful that I don't start losing
19:41because I think she's better than she's letting on.
19:45Yeah, yeah, I've got my eye on her.
19:46Now, can you see that she looks a little bit rainbow-esque
19:50at the moment?
19:51Yes.
19:51Yes.
19:51And what I want to do is bring her all together.
19:53Yeah.
19:54So, we're going to give her a little bit of a body
19:55and then the rest coming down.
19:57So, if you cut a longer piece of yarn,
20:00and what I want you to do is tie it round her midriff.
20:04Oh, several times?
20:06Several times.
20:07OK.
20:07Yeah.
20:08So, can you see?
20:09So, we're going to...
20:09Oh, so she's got a head.
20:10I see.
20:11Well, no, that's going to be a body.
20:13For a head, I've got you a little bead.
20:15Yes.
20:16OK.
20:16So, all we're going to do is we're going to thread
20:18the wool through the bead.
20:21It's all about the lick.
20:22It's all about the lick.
20:23We've got this down pat now, haven't we?
20:25We have.
20:26Right.
20:26Now, we could tie a big knot above a head,
20:29but we don't need to, guys,
20:30because we've got our glue guns.
20:32So, all I want you to do
20:34is put a little blob of glue
20:36more or less into the wooden bead
20:40and then the wooden bead on.
20:42This is now like brain surgery.
20:44It's hot.
20:45Going in, Hilary.
20:46Oh, nice, yeah.
20:47Going in.
20:47Oh.
20:50Pull through, darling.
20:51Do you know what I'm going to do with my angel?
20:52I'm going to give her a little hair trim on the bottom.
20:55OK.
20:55So, just so that she's all a little bit uniformed.
20:58So, do you know what I thought I'd do?
20:59I've tied a little bow for you,
21:01which I thought would make her wings at the back.
21:04Nice.
21:05So, all we need to do...
21:06There you go.
21:07Glue gun.
21:08Get the glue gun out.
21:09Right.
21:10So, there are our...
21:13Oh, Tony, she's gorgeous.
21:16Love it.
21:17I think he's going to give me a good run for my money.
21:19I think he's got hidden depths
21:21and I need to look to my laurels.
21:23I think he's going to run me to the line.
21:29Bring it on.
21:31I feel that she needs eyes and things.
21:35Oh, is that a bit radical?
21:37She's gone rogue.
21:38Not even without faces.
21:40But if you want to give her some eyes,
21:42I'll find you a Sharpie when we have a bit of a break later.
21:45Now, obviously, we're going to put them in our little snowy scenes,
21:48but you could do all sorts of these.
21:50You could hang them on the tree.
21:52You could...
21:52Oh, if you've wrapped presents,
21:53you could use it as, like, a little tag on your present.
21:55Brilliant, yeah.
21:57OK, so, if you get your jar up,
21:59it should be dry now.
22:01I hope you need a heavy...
22:04Oh!
22:04Yeah.
22:05So, a bit of snow in the bottom?
22:06Yes, please.
22:07Right.
22:08So, you've got a bag of four snow there.
22:11Four snow.
22:12Four snow.
22:13I love it.
22:14Like the true northerner in me here.
22:16All of it.
22:18No, you don't want too much in.
22:20That's looking good, Tony.
22:22I've got some Christmas lights out,
22:24and then your lights, you see, will just pop on top.
22:27Oh, look at that.
22:29It's like a twinkling masterpiece.
22:31And then you can have the angel flying over the top.
22:34She's going to look great in there.
22:36Yes.
22:36Dead centre.
22:37She looks great.
22:38Well, we're now going to build a little village.
22:41Oh!
22:41It's hard for our angel to fly over.
22:44I love it.
22:44Now you are crafter extraordinaires.
22:47Right.
22:47Put your lid on.
22:48Put your lid on.
22:48Put your lid on.
22:49Yep.
22:49Let's get them out of the way,
22:51and let's get started on the next bit.
23:02It wouldn't be Christmas without a fun, festive treat.
23:05And this one's guaranteed to disappear faster than Santa on Christmas Eve.
23:12I was thinking we'd do a little treat by Hilary and Tony.
23:15A little kind of mid-crafting interlude pick-me-up.
23:19So I'm going to make some peanut butter chocolate cups in little reindeer shapes.
23:25This is a foolproof way to melt the chocolate.
23:28And then, I'm going to make them into peanut butter cups.
23:35So I've just got some tiny little cake cases.
23:38I'm just popping a little bit of chocolate into the base.
23:40that'll form the bottom part of the peanut butter cup.
23:45And then, I want it to kind of come up the sides.
23:48So I'm just going to ease it round like this.
23:54Right, I've gone for squeezy peanut butter to make life easier.
23:59And then, we're going to seal that in with even more chocolate.
24:14Now, I've seen the fancy chocolatiers.
24:16Like, give them all the tap.
24:19Oh, it just levels them out perfectly.
24:21Then, we just need to make them into reindeers.
24:23So, I've got some little pretzels.
24:26I thought they'd snap in half and make little antlers.
24:29And then, I've got some little edible reindeer eyes.
24:33And their red noses are just little sweeties.
24:35And then, they're ready to go in the fridge.
24:54And then, all we need to do is take them out of their little wrappers.
25:15Now, they look smashing.
25:17And I think Hillary and Tony are going to love them.
25:20Let's have a little try.
25:24Mm-hmm.
25:28Oh, that's smashing.
25:31Now, let's see if Hillary and Tony think that these red noses reindeers should go down in history.
25:38Oh.
25:40I've made us a little treat.
25:42Oh.
25:42She's been peeled again.
25:44Do you like them?
25:45Oh, that is so cute.
25:47Have a one.
25:47Thank you so much.
25:49It's a little bit something to keep you going through the afternoon.
25:51However, I will say, I have an ulterior motive as well.
25:54So, you know we're having a party at the end of the week.
25:57Yeah.
25:57Right.
25:58So, we're inviting loads of the local people from the area who don't get to have a Christmas
26:02day.
26:03Oh.
26:04Oh.
26:04Brilliant.
26:05So, we are going to be decorating this room.
26:07So, everything you're making, it's going to be to decorate the room.
26:09And these are going to be when I'm feeding them.
26:11Can I just say, very inventive use of a pretzel.
26:14Yeah.
26:14Mm-hmm.
26:15Yeah.
26:15I'm not sure how I feel about eating Rudolph.
26:17Rudolph.
26:17I'd go for it.
26:18It tastes good.
26:19Does it?
26:19It tastes good, Tony.
26:20Oh.
26:22It's great in one.
26:24Mm.
26:24That's gorgeous.
26:25Mm-hmm.
26:25That Tony wasn't remotely worried about eating him.
26:27Ah!
26:28Mm-hmm.
26:28Do well with your hut and I'll let you have another one.
26:31Okay.
26:32There's work to be done.
26:33Mm-hmm.
26:34I thought what we could do is a little scene for inside the jar.
26:36Yeah.
26:37And we'd start off making a little hut.
26:39Remember, I've got the twigs.
26:41I've cut you both a few little bits of cad.
26:44Mm-hmm.
26:44Get your glue gun in.
26:45And then stick the sides together.
26:48Right.
26:48Okay.
26:49Yeah.
26:50And then stick the twigs on the sides.
26:54One-handed glue gun in now and everything.
26:56Yeah.
27:03Right.
27:04So, my thinking was, we'll stick our glue on.
27:07Mm-hmm.
27:08Stick the twigs on, which are slightly too long, right?
27:12But what we can do is, is then get the secateurs and just trim off the edges.
27:17Tilt it round.
27:17It might be going radical, because I think I'm going to go that way.
27:20I...
27:21Hello, it's your house.
27:23You stick them however you want to stick them.
27:25Okay.
27:26So, just a general spread.
27:28General spread of glue.
27:29Some twigs might stick on a bit easier than others.
27:32Ooh, they stick fast.
27:33They stick fast, don't they?
27:34You've got to keep them moving.
27:35You've got to keep them moving.
27:36Let me get you all a pair of secateurs.
27:49Pretty brute strength there, Tony.
27:51I'm going to be picking up twigs all week, aren't I?
28:00You are?
28:00You are.
28:01Yes.
28:02I don't know how to tell you this.
28:04You have your glue stick.
28:05Oh, Hilary, what is wrong with me?
28:06What is wrong with me?
28:08She likes a bit of glue.
28:09I'm going to be picking that glue.
28:11Now, even if you didn't want to sit and do it with twigs, you could do it with, like, a little bit of moss on that side.
28:16Yes.
28:17I think I might cut a little door out of my felt.
28:19Oh, I haven't done my roof.
28:21No, no.
28:21I'm thinking felt roof.
28:23Have a little look, this colour felt.
28:28You could, you know what you could do.
28:30I'm going to try and stick four of these together, make a little chimney.
28:33Oh.
28:35So I have to ask, is anybody working at all over Christmas?
28:39I'm off, I'm really lucky.
28:40The whole of Coronation Street, the whole thing shuts down, so all cast and all crew, we all get a good full-on Christmas.
28:47Don't you sometimes do a bit of pan tour?
28:49I have done, yeah, yeah.
28:50I've done three.
28:51My first ever job was in panto.
28:53Was it?
28:54I played back end of the cow.
28:55Did you?
28:56I did!
28:57There was a whole milking sequence where I had to have a sequence of bottles under the costume and drop the right bottle at the right time.
29:05There was a milking sequence?
29:07There was.
29:07I mean, that was not something I was expecting to be discussing today.
29:13Doesn't Tony's little hut look at me, is it?
29:14I love it.
29:15It's an alpine hut.
29:15I'm loving this.
29:16I need another glue-tastic because I'm glu-tastic again.
29:19Hillary glu-tastic.
29:20Hillary glu-tastic.
29:21Hillary, that's your third glue-tastic.
29:22It's about my fifth glue-tastic.
29:24I think you've lost count.
29:25I think it's been a lot more than three.
29:27It has.
29:28I managed to trance through the show's budget as well in glu-tastic.
29:33Yes, I'm so sorry.
29:35And then, of course, we've got some snow.
29:37So if you want to put some four snow on.
29:39Sorry, I'm taking so long doing this.
29:41I know people have got homes to go to, but I've just got a plan.
29:44Sorry.
29:47I've got a plan and I'm going to stick to it because I want this to be the best it can be.
29:53Hillary, I think I've just heard someone shout Happy New Year.
29:59Come on, Hillary.
30:00Come on.
30:01Come on, love.
30:03She didn't want to part with her glue gun, did she?
30:05Have you got the plan there, Hillary?
30:07How's it looking?
30:08I've cut it on a bias.
30:10Oh, she's cut it on the bias, ready to go.
30:14There's the perfectionist coming out.
30:16I promise I've nearly finished.
30:19She's gone in with the snow.
30:21I'm very happy to get the vacuum cleaner out at the end.
30:28There we go.
30:29Are you happy with that?
30:30I do apologise that I've taken so long.
30:32Right, let's have a look at how our little houses are looking.
30:35Zara.
30:38Hello.
30:40Isn't it?
30:40Yes.
30:41That looks brilliant.
30:42I'm very excited.
30:43I mean, I was very pleased with the end result,
30:46but the journey to get to the end result was definitely not my finest hour
30:50because the latent perfectionist in me came to the fore.
30:55And yes, I hold my hands up.
30:56I am a perfectionist, which is a blessing and a curse.
31:00And they all look a little bit different.
31:02They do.
31:02That's what I love about it.
31:03It's your own take, isn't it?
31:06Do you know what?
31:07I do feel proud.
31:08I feel like running home to my mum going,
31:10Mum, look what I made.
31:11I do.
31:11I do.
31:12I feel like I'm six again.
31:14And I love it.
31:15Do you think mine was the best?
31:16Thank you.
31:18I won't tell anyone.
31:27So, we've got a cabin.
31:28Yeah.
31:29And I think we should make a tree.
31:30Right.
31:31I've also planned you a base structure for the tree.
31:35Yes.
31:36You'll see I've cut you a pie shape.
31:39A pie shape cardboard.
31:40And what we're going to do is I just want you to bend it around your hand.
31:45Soften it up.
31:46Soften it all up because you want to make this into a bit of a cone.
31:49Ah.
31:50You want like a party hat?
31:51Got it.
31:52So we are going to adorn said foliage.
31:56Ah, got it.
31:56You'll see where we're going with that.
31:58You'll not be surprised to see we're getting the glue guns back out.
32:01And I do have glue left, you'll be pleased to hear.
32:03Not for long.
32:04Not for long.
32:05Yes.
32:06I've never known anyone so trigger-happy.
32:10Right.
32:10Get yourself a bit of foliage.
32:12And these are just leftover bits that we cut off the shrubbery in the garden.
32:16It's as simple as all we're going to do is pull off the bits and then stick them to go down the tree.
32:25It's interesting you've done that way.
32:26Because I, okay, well, the tree would, the horns would go down like this.
32:30I'm with you.
32:34Can you remember any of Jack's Christmas performances when he was a wee-bag?
32:40He did play Joseph one year.
32:43Was he any good?
32:45Yeah, there was quite a lot of waving to people going on.
32:47But that's right here.
32:49We call that showing off.
32:51Yeah, yeah, exactly.
32:52He's just going for it.
32:58So, I mean, you could add a bit of snow if you want.
33:00I'm going to keep mine as it is because I think it looks great.
33:03Yeah.
33:03Just dip it in.
33:04Nice.
33:04There we go.
33:05Yeah.
33:05Snow top tree.
33:06Okay.
33:06Right.
33:09Are we all ready to put them inside our snowy jars?
33:13Ooh, I love this mess.
33:15Jar coming in.
33:15This is why.
33:16Oh, thank you, sir.
33:17Thank you, thank you, thank you.
33:18There you go.
33:18Oh, you want your little log cabin in there.
33:21Tree in the background.
33:22Can I trouble you for a glue stick?
33:24Or I could just use yours.
33:25Where's the angel going to go?
33:30Let's have a look.
33:31I might need your crafty eye here.
33:34Down a bit, left a bit.
33:35Yeah, yes.
33:37Are you gluing her in or just jamming it in with the lid?
33:39I'm gluing her in.
33:41Big reveal, Hilary, big reveal.
33:43Ta-da!
33:44Oh, yes, it was not.
33:46She's not facing the right way.
33:47Actually, still not happy with the position of the angel
33:50because she's not looking the right way.
33:52That's going to worry me all the way home now.
33:54Let's see yours.
33:57Oh, yes.
33:58Love it.
34:00Oh, yes.
34:02Spectacular.
34:03A scene in a jar.
34:05I wasn't sure what you meant at first,
34:06but what a great idea.
34:08I mean, again, our personalities shone through the jar.
34:11Mine was a bit rustic, round the edge.
34:14Hilary's was very precise, as is Hilary.
34:18So, yeah, I mean, just put your own personality
34:21on everything that you make, can't you?
34:22Really good idea.
34:23Thank you so much.
34:24I love that.
34:25Can we do this again?
34:25Hello.
34:26We've still got our gifts.
34:29Oh.
34:29Oh.
34:30Yes.
34:30Yes.
34:31Right, let's have a clean up
34:32and let's start and do some gifts.
34:33Okay, go.
34:33Perfect.
34:34Perfect.
34:34We're back with more festive fun
34:47and I've got just the trick
34:49to style up your favourite Christmas tipple.
34:54So, we've done a scene in a jar.
34:57I thought, why not do a little Christmas scene in a glass?
35:00This is a really fun treat and super easy.
35:03All I'm going to use, a little bit of rosemary,
35:06some pomegranate seeds.
35:08We're going to freeze it ready.
35:10Now, this is the low tack tape
35:13that is going to hold
35:14our little miniature Christmas tree in place.
35:18So, you can see there,
35:19I've just got a little bit of a gap in the middle.
35:22It looks about a good size there.
35:26And then you see that
35:28will be held just nicely
35:30in the glass.
35:32And then we want to do
35:33freeze in place there.
35:34So, I'm going to start off
35:35just with a little bit of water
35:36because it's going to be going into the freezer.
35:38Lovely.
35:40And then a couple of little pomegranates in
35:42and they should sink to the bottom
35:44and give it a little bit of colour.
35:47And I'm going to do one of them
35:49for each of us.
35:50Now, they are looking super
36:10and then you just need to take
36:12the washi tape off.
36:13And what you'll see is
36:14that Christmas tree
36:16will have frozen
36:18and then, oh, perfectly into place.
36:22And then all that's left
36:24is to add your tipple of choice.
36:26Now, I'm just adding tonic water to these.
36:29Oh, you're going to love them.
36:33This is a scene in a glass.
36:43Got a little tree.
36:44What?
36:45What is that?
36:47So, we've done our scene in a jar.
36:50Look at this.
36:51I thought we'd do it in miniature
36:52and have our little scene in a glass.
36:54Now, you can add anything you want.
36:56I've got a bit of tonic water.
36:57Yes.
36:57Yep.
36:58So, what this is
36:59is this is just frozen water.
37:03Yes.
37:04With our rosemary Christmas tree.
37:06Thank you.
37:06With a little bit of pomegranate
37:07in the bottom for the colour.
37:09Piece of bread.
37:09And then it will float eventually.
37:11Yeah.
37:11That is absolutely divine.
37:13That would be perfect
37:14for a little gin and tonic, wouldn't it?
37:15Oh, hello.
37:16Oh, cheers.
37:17Oh, cheers.
37:17Merry Christmas.
37:18Merry Christmas.
37:19Merry Christmas.
37:21Love it.
37:21And that's a really pleasing shape too.
37:24Right.
37:24Okay.
37:25Put them to one side then
37:26because we've got some serious business
37:27to get going on.
37:28Please tell me you are both great at sewing.
37:32Absolutely hopeless.
37:33We're not doing sewing, are we?
37:35Yes, we're going to sew a Christmas stocking.
37:36I can't do sewing.
37:38I can't even thread the needle these days.
37:40You'll be great at it, do I?
37:41Uh, no.
37:45Right, okay.
37:46Don't worry.
37:47No needles, no thread, no stitching.
37:50We're going for a no-sore stocking.
37:53Yes!
37:54We are going to!
37:55Yes!
37:55Woo-hoo!
37:57Now you're an expert.
37:59There we go.
37:59You're such a T-
38:00Your face there, Hilary, your face.
38:02I literally thought I am...
38:04This isn't...
38:05I'm going to have an epic fail.
38:06Yeah.
38:07So, all been well.
38:10You should have brought something from home.
38:12Something Christmassy.
38:13Yes.
38:14Yes.
38:14I've got some jammies.
38:16What have you got?
38:17A very big...
38:19Oh, Christmas onesie.
38:20A Christmas onesie.
38:21Yeah.
38:22Nice.
38:22Surplus to requirements now.
38:24Well, it's had three years.
38:25Yeah.
38:26Okay.
38:26Totally.
38:27I've got a little sparkly top,
38:28which actually I've got two of
38:29and I thought, okay...
38:30So, it's ready to be upcycled.
38:32It's ready to be upcycled, yeah.
38:33Right, okay.
38:34So, what I've done is
38:35I've cut you all out a template.
38:38Cardboard.
38:38Yeah.
38:38I'll draw around it.
38:39Yeah.
38:40Now, the only problem,
38:41I didn't know what fabric you were bringing
38:42and some fabric lends itself better than others.
38:46You need something with structure.
38:48Yours would be brilliant.
38:49Ours, not so much.
38:51Not so good.
38:51If you think about it,
38:52you put a tangerine in the footer there...
38:55It's going to stretch, yeah.
38:55It's going to go flying.
38:56Yeah.
38:57So, what I've done is
38:58I've already cut some out of calico for you
39:01so that we can line it in the calico,
39:03which will be nice and strong.
39:06Yes.
39:07Little tip here, though.
39:08Yes.
39:08We're going to draw around the template
39:10and then leave ourselves a seam allowance.
39:13When you cut it out,
39:14leave an extra quarter of an inch.
39:16Half an inch, that sort of level.
39:18A margin.
39:19Yeah?
39:19Do you guys still have Christmas stockings at home?
39:22We do.
39:23Yeah?
39:23With people's initials on them.
39:26Well...
39:26Hang them over the fireplace.
39:28I can see that I've set myself a challenge here
39:31with this flabby material.
39:32OK, so this is where you're going to leave that margin.
39:39It doesn't matter if it's not perfect.
39:43I mean, it does to me, but then I'll...
39:45No, but you won't see it, because it'll be inside.
39:46It's all right.
39:46I'll live with it.
39:48Just take a deep breath.
39:49Doesn't matter, Hilary, if it's not perfect.
39:52Perfect.
39:53Three.
39:53Perfect.
39:54Brilliant.
39:54Thank you very much.
39:54Right, OK, so you should have two calico bits
39:58and two bits of fabric,
40:01and we need to stick our fabric one to the calico one.
40:06OK.
40:07OK?
40:08Yeah.
40:08Inside the margin.
40:10Like this one.
40:11Right.
40:12OK.
40:12Because we're going to seam all those edges in.
40:15Do not look what I'm doing, because you will go very wrong.
40:26But when we glue the sides together...
40:28Yeah.
40:29..it's going to be fine.
40:30OK.
40:33Look, it's now curling up.
40:34Don't worry.
40:35Don't worry.
40:35OK.
40:40I mean, how are you feeling about cutting up that amazing onesie
40:44after three years of sex?
40:45Well, I'm thinking someone's going to have to buy me a brand new onesie.
40:47Right.
40:48Tony needs a new onesie.
40:49New onesie, please, Mum.
40:51Right.
40:52This is the really, really important bit.
40:53You must go right sides together.
40:57So you mean right sides together as in...
40:59Yes.
40:59So we're going to glue the two right sides together.
41:03OK.
41:05Right, so now you're going to put the glue exactly on the line.
41:08On the long side.
41:09And I want you to put plenty of glue on.
41:11I mean, you don't need to invite me to do that, Sarah.
41:16I'm already there.
41:22This is when I become six years old again, though.
41:25Oh.
41:26Do you know, so many people think, yeah, crafting for kids,
41:30and they don't realise just how enjoyable it can be.
41:34We forget, don't we?
41:35Yeah.
41:36I feel relaxed.
41:38It's just so nice to sit there, chatting away.
41:41It's all making the same thing.
41:42Looking at Hillary's, looking at mine.
41:45It's brilliant.
41:45It's so nice.
41:46Now, we can trim it so that it's all the same size,
41:51so that we don't have all of this extra bulk in that we don't need.
41:55Because I've cut the wrong side of the gluing now.
42:02Just you, watch where you going, woman.
42:05He's just hacking at it with a pair of scissors.
42:07I'm like, just watch where we going.
42:11Tony, you can start the next stage.
42:12Yes.
42:12You're all set, Captain Sense, whatever there.
42:14What I want you to do is cut up to,
42:17in this sort of half-inch increments,
42:19that glue line.
42:22Just around the heel?
42:23Just around the heel and around the toe.
42:26And it's just going to mean that when we turn it inside out,
42:29it's nice and neat.
42:31But be careful not to cut through the glue.
42:34Well, that's my problem.
42:35It was so good on the last task.
42:37And this one, literally epic fail.
42:41I don't think it's an epic fail.
42:43I think it's just a work in progress.
42:46What did you put in that drink?
42:49I knew I'd get the blame.
42:50Yeah.
42:50I think I'm fully sealed.
42:52Right.
42:54Grab the toe.
42:55Grab the toe and pull it through.
42:56Pull it through.
42:57Oh, hello.
42:59Is it...
42:59Oh, is it coming together?
43:02It's coming together beautifully.
43:04Oh, look.
43:05Hello.
43:06I have to say, Tony, it's happening.
43:09Hello.
43:09It's happening.
43:10It's happening.
43:11Yours would keep you warm at night as well.
43:14And then do you know what we can do?
43:16Add some embellishments.
43:17Yeah.
43:17I have got a whore lord.
43:20Oh, look at that.
43:21A lovely trim.
43:23Oh, you could add a little bit of trim around the top like this.
43:25Do you know what I'm desperate to do about this?
43:27I just...
43:28Um, just auditioning for Santa.
43:30What do you think?
43:31Hey!
43:32I don't know why I'm putting that on.
43:34One minute.
43:34Oh!
43:35Also, I am a woman of a certain age.
43:38I can grow my own.
43:42So I can dress it up now.
43:44Tony, you make it look epic.
43:48Who are you making it for?
43:49My dog.
43:50Doggy's talking.
43:52What's he called?
43:52Bozy.
43:53Bozy.
43:54What are you going to do?
43:55Are you going to do your trim?
43:56Maybe he's adding an initial on, Hilary?
43:58Yes, I will add an initial.
44:00What's the dog called?
44:01Philly.
44:02Philly?
44:02Philly.
44:03So, talk us through what you've just done there, Hilary.
44:15I've literally glued this round the margin.
44:18Do you know what?
44:19But hold that up.
44:19That's looking really good.
44:20Isn't that looking really good there, Tony?
44:22Gorgeous.
44:23Well, have you enjoyed it?
44:25I have loved it.
44:26It's been an absolute blast.
44:27I don't want to go home.
44:28Neither do I.
44:29I feel so content.
44:31I feel like I've been away to a retreat or something.
44:35It's just such a lovely, lovely thing to do in the build up to Christmas.
44:38And it's like, ah.
44:41Ready?
44:42Yes.
44:42Drum roll, please.
44:43Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
44:44Oh, look at that.
44:47That looks so professional.
44:49You like that?
44:50Ozy.
44:51I've got F for Philly.
44:53Beautiful.
44:53Oh, yes.
44:55Looking good.
44:57Looking good.
44:57Yeah, we like it.
44:58And some jammies.
45:00Gorgeous.
45:01Sarah is not known as the queen of crafting for nothing.
45:04What I love most of all is her enthusiasm.
45:07I think they look incredible.
45:09And that, for me, is important in life.
45:13Passion.
45:13That's what we want in life.
45:15More passion for things.
45:16I mean, I'm supposed to pick a winner, aren't I?
45:18It's been crafting heaven.
45:20Can I say I've got my crafting queen and my crafting king?
45:24Ah.
45:25Is that just that one?
45:26And that final highlight.
45:27Go, girl.
45:28Yeah.
45:28I think we should all cheers to our amazing Christmas.
45:31Oh, I'm doing a wonderful, wonderful.
45:34Thank you.
45:35Merry Christmas.
45:36Thank you for having a lovely day.
45:38Merry Christmas.
45:40Mmm.
45:42Next time.
45:43I think she looks the best out of them all, if I'm honest.
45:46The Christmas party preparations continue.
45:48I think you need to trim it a bit so it goes a bit pointy out the top.
45:52She's intimidating me now.
45:55With two more celebrity crafters.
45:58We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
46:01Yeah.
46:06We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
46:07We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
46:08We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
46:09We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
46:10We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
46:11We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
46:12We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
46:13We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
46:14We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
46:15We're the craft version of Destiny's Child.
