Oscar and Emmy winning actress Maggie Smith known for her work in 'Harry Potter' and 'Downton Abbey,' has sadly died. She was 89. Smith died peacefully on Friday, September 17th per a statement released by her family, "It is with great sadness we have to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September. An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother."

00:38Potter franchise. I've always wanted to use that spell. She was also heavily recognized for her
00:46work in ITV and PBS's Downton Abbey. Please don't think we're ungrateful for your enthusiasm,
00:52Mrs. Crawley, but there comes a time when things are best left to the professionals. Smith earned
00:58early acclaim with a Best Actress Oscar in 1970 for her starring role in the Prime of Miss Jean Brody.
01:04That was followed nine years later by an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the Comedy
01:09California Suite. She was also nominated for four other Oscars for her Best Actress and Supporting
01:15Turns. In 1989, Queen Elizabeth II bestowed Smith with the title of Dame for her dramatic accomplishments.
01:22The Queen granted her another distinction in 2014, making her the 47th member of the Order of
01:28Companions of Honor in the company of such other recipients as Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Judi Dench.
