00:00there's a magical place where the spirit of Christmas is all about woofs and walkies
00:13and even the grumpiest Grinch can't help but smile there's nothing better than having a dog
00:24at Christmas time dogs definitely love Christmas as much as we do we're a dedicated team try to find
00:35every dog a new family are we feeling festive yeah this could be the start
00:54of a really beautiful relationship this year we're all invited to some very furry festivities
01:02all ready for Christmas as Wood Green's dogs steal the hearts of a new set of owners all
01:09they want for Christmas is someone to love and to love them in return
01:13come on then let's find Father Christmas do you think the dogs notice everyone's a bit giddy at
01:30Christmas so I think the dogs feed off that and they're probably like woohoo my dogs have a stocking
01:35every year I'm 27 years old and I still wake my mom up at 6 a.m. look what Santa's got you
01:42hi lasagna on Christmas Day much to the horror of my family about my darn name refusing to come
01:49around for Christmas dinner Christmas Day gets to that point and it's like you can even watch a
01:57film you can have a two-hour bath this is gonna make your Christmas isn't it what is a dog that sneezes
02:16what would you call magician's dog a labracadabra dog hoping Santa is really gonna slay this year is
02:29the Joe Hal family Merry Christmas Merry Christmas morning the party's arrived so are we feeling festive yeah there we go so talk to me about your Christmas day
02:43run me through your day we wake up and we get presents we go downstairs for presents
02:47first a few we don't have two presents each we have Christmas songs on oh yes a bit of caroling
02:52what was my caroling cattle wobbling we're not actually Christian but no but we still love Christmas
03:01we're all Sikh that's our religion really Christmas is not our thing huh I didn't know that Sikhs didn't
03:10celebrate Christmas we embrace everything we'll take everything on board and do all of it pick and
03:16choose the nice bits that we like do you want the lights on best Christmas jumper ever first weekend
03:26of December the Christmas tree arrives then it's full steam ahead then boom then we're in Christmas
03:30mode tinsel tinsel's a bit tacky oh shots fired not on my chin I try to find new decorations every
03:40year but since a certain department still closed down my life is very sad so obviously you're you
03:53for a dog yes we are yeah potentially dad something so negative is he normally like this yes but listen
04:04I don't think we should keep you waiting any longer so make yourself come first someone will come down
04:08and have a chat with you good boy what would you like for Christmas good morning you're free to
04:24Kalea with green because I have a dog dump on the street his body looks way too thin she's just really
04:33submissive and petrified we get stray dogs in all year round it seems more sad when they come in at
04:40Christmas because Christmas is a time of goodwill and they should be being loved not abandoned out on
04:48the streets some people find Christmas time really stressful and maybe sometimes people just can't cope and
04:58the dogs are the ones that pay the price
05:00hiya member of the public called our kennels and said that they found a pair of dogs tied to a post in an alleyway
05:16I popped down to come and pick them up can't find any microchips that's where we are now the one on the right here looks pretty scared
05:26good we'll take them down to the kennels cool no problem good you want picking up
05:32good let's go
05:40come on then yeah I know it's a bit worrying when we get stray or abandoned dogs come in one of the first
05:56things we do is we give them a name Jenny this black one she seems quite happy Doria thinks a little bit
06:03more nervous she's been panting a bit kind of pasted in a kennel they're a little bit dirty and a bit
06:08matted some places a little bit skinnier there aren't you lady we can definitely get you looking better
06:15if we get a pair of dogs we can't just take for granted that those dogs are best of friends so we
06:24have got to monitor them quite closely so that we can assess their needs going forward
06:28good girls yeah well done ladies
06:33I'm Angel Mel and I'm Sue hi Angel hello Jessie I'm Paminda I'm Mia Mia I'm Arjun Arjun I'm
06:58Keira smiles all round I see have you as a family had a dog before 96 I I got a pedigree what one
07:10Leon I picked him out from the letter so I brought him home in like a shoebox this was one of the
07:17earlier pictures we had Leon and I taken they just had this great bond you know he made me my made him
07:24and we just kind of were the same losing him was the hardest thing I've ever had to do what was Leon
07:32like don't stop cry don't stop he'll cry oh it spoiled me for other dogs does that make sense
07:39hopefully okay why have you decided that now's the time for a dog because I've been wearing them down
07:46for eight years and they finally said yes the every Christmas my Christmas this is dog clothes dog toys
07:53subtle hints like that Kira's commitment is quite impressive so I've been trying to put off here having
08:03a dog trying to protect her from that pain that comes from when you have to say goodbye maybe it's
08:10you know the dad in me to protect her maybe it's the Rottweiler in me trying to protect my daughter
08:15what breeds are you open to I like a cocker spaniels and breeze like like that because then you can do
08:23like agility with them you can go they like playing fetch you can train them do lots of things and
08:27they're like a good size okay so quite a clever dog then we're looking okay yeah so we need
08:32intelligence yes fizzy energy fizzy fizzy energy fun playful hyper hyper is a stretch so you want a
08:44fun fun buddy basically yeah right let's see if we can make your Christmas thank you family of five
08:56they're looking for something in the region of a perhaps a spaniel size so there's a little mushy
09:07know what you're getting with a three-year-old don't you yeah yeah yeah do you think Milo he's super fun
09:15oh Luna she's a labradoodle so I think that's gonna really match well with what Keira is looking for
09:26that spaniel-y energy she's not enjoying life in kennels she's just gone really withdrawn I've seen the
09:35other side to her her personality she's cheeky fizzy funny trick training that's brilliant and dogs who are
09:43a little bit more nervous so if that's something that Keira is looking to do hmm I think that will
09:49really really help Luna settle into a home I think she's a good little match I just don't think first
09:57impressions are gonna be great okay so we have found you the very pretty labradoodle
10:09her name is Luna now Luna's having a really hard time here in kennels and she's gone into a shell
10:27and done this she may struggle initially so in order not to overwhelm her what we'd like to do is start
10:40with you two it's essentially got the experience and it's your dog yeah would you like to meet Luna
10:47absolutely so does Keira and I get to decide whether they get to meet the dog oh I'll take
10:53that in Keira you lead the way and her name is Luna Luna's not always happy and goofy with Luna's
11:08previous home she wasn't able to go out of the house much and she didn't get many of the opportunities
11:13that sort of a young puppy would normally get which has resulted in her becoming more nervous and
11:17timid of new things we just need someone to be really patient with her and give her the time and
11:24the space to come out of her shell on her own terms when you're in her club she'll be your best
11:30friend forever we like the idea of the name Luna yeah I do I don't think there's anyone who's done
11:45her homework more than Keira has she's clued up on dogs she knows all the breeds she's got a lot of
11:51passion oh my god it's so cute I took her to class she couldn't stop smiling everywhere she
11:59looked because there's just dogs everywhere she came back so happy she could be our dog I want to
12:09try and get my dog to be able to do lots of tricks you're you're teaching this dog something you know
12:14you're you're showing this dog that you know you you can help it do stuff I'm helping the dog learn
12:20something new nice and brave positive mental attitude come on the puppet there so we could watch it
12:31like that eight years in the waiting eight years eight years good girl be brave
12:50this is Luna good girl she can be a little bit nervous to start with plucking up the courage to meet
13:19Keira and her dad Jesse is one-year-old labradoodle Luna I think Luna the name that suits her does doesn't it
13:27oh my god she's so cute
13:31Keira learned to control herself I'll give you her lead just so she doesn't try and follow me out
13:38come here what's this so this is what I was worried about she's gone all frightened now and body's gone all tense the tails tucked she's not feeling relaxed
14:02relaxed oh you're very nervous aren't you darling
14:07how sad that she's so upset
14:14what's this is this come here
14:21come here
14:24it's okay
14:27yeah she's not interested she I kinda feel bad
14:35K then
14:37MUSIC PLAYS
14:40MUSIC PLAYS
14:42I saw Mummy kissing Santa Claus
14:46What's some mistletoe with you?
14:48What?
14:49That's a hard pass.
14:52MUSIC PLAYS
14:54No mistletoe needed, huh?
14:56No, I think, oh, I'm trying to wheel you air back in earlier,
14:59getting your little underbite out.
15:01Something like that means, this stuff.
15:03MUSIC PLAYS
15:05Oh, well, thank you.
15:07You knew what that meant.
15:08MUSIC PLAYS
15:10Oh, yay!
15:12Yay!
15:13I've got Christmas kisses!
15:15Yay!
15:16MUSIC PLAYS
15:18Chico?
15:20Don't know what to expect.
15:22It's like blind date, but for doggies.
15:24He's going to love it.
15:25American Bulldog Chico is looking for a big,
15:28slobbery Christmas kiss.
15:30People tell him he's handsome,
15:32and then he smiles back at them as if to say,
15:34yes, I know I am.
15:36He just takes it all in.
15:37He loves it.
15:38It's like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth.
15:42Chaperoned by devoted dog dads, Darren and Alan.
15:46Merry Christmas!
15:47Merry Christmas!
15:48That's Chico.
15:49Oh, my God.
15:50You're gorgeous, ain't you?
15:52He's just cheeky.
15:53That's what he gets called.
15:54Chica Chico?
15:55Chica Chico.
15:56Chica Chico!
15:57I love that!
15:58Come for a pal, or is it a date?
16:01Well, I think it might be a date.
16:03He's had a bath and everything.
16:04I'm going to say,
16:05has he got a bit of that doggy aftershave on?
16:07Black cherry.
16:08Black cherry.
16:09Apparently that's the one that does it.
16:11I need to have a sniff of him.
16:13Can I say hello?
16:15Oh, delicious.
16:17Do you smell lovely?
16:19Do you reckon he kisses on first date?
16:21He goes mental when he meets other dogs.
16:23Does he?
16:24Yeah.
16:25I'll be honest with you.
16:26He smells better than most men that I've met.
16:28So I think he's got a shot here.
16:35You're enough.
16:36Good girl.
16:37You okay?
16:40Chica's a bit distraught.
16:41No, she's not.
16:42She's all right.
16:43Look at Chica's face.
16:44I know.
16:45Who's this?
16:51Yeah, do you smell the trees?
16:55Nothing's going to change until somebody has at least got hold of the lead,
17:04because then there's that connection.
17:07I so want this to work for her.
17:10Good girl, Luna.
17:12Good girl.
17:14I think now is the right time for her to have a dog.
17:17She's definitely matured enough.
17:19She's just going to get so much out of it,
17:21because she'll put everything into the dog.
17:24Whether it's love, whether it's enjoyment.
17:27It'll help her grow as a person.
17:29And if she has half of what Leon and I had,
17:33I'll be over the moon.
17:38Hello.
17:40Come in.
17:41Come here.
17:42Good girl.
17:43Good girl.
17:51It's okay.
17:53It's okay.
17:55It's okay.
17:56Good girl.
17:57Good girl.
17:59Go on, Kira.
18:04Shall we stand up?
18:06Shall we stand up?
18:13Come on.
18:15Good girl.
18:22Good girl.
18:26This little girl is absolutely amazing.
18:29Yeah.
18:30Good girl, Luna.
18:32Good girl.
18:34The movement is important.
18:36You are just out together.
18:38It's been a long time.
18:39She's having a good sniff.
18:40If you're just there.
18:41Yeah.
18:42She's then like,
18:43Oh, we had a good time, didn't we?
18:45Walk a little bit faster.
18:47She's going to get confident.
18:48She sees you more confident.
18:49That's it.
18:50Good girl.
18:51We can do it.
18:52Good girl.
18:53Daddy's right.
18:54Yay!
18:55You know what they do in the crafts,
18:56when they show the audience?
18:57Come on then.
18:58Like they do at crafts.
18:59Like they do at crafts.
19:01Come on.
19:03Come on.
19:05That's it.
19:06Yay!
19:07Good girl.
19:12She's snuggled into her.
19:14I think we're going to get a belly rub.
19:17Please.
19:18Oh, come on.
19:20Come on.
19:21Oh, we're going to have it.
19:22Hi.
19:24Look, there it is.
19:25There it is.
19:26There it is.
19:27Good girl.
19:28Good girl.
19:29Good girl.
19:30Oh, my goodness.
19:31Yay!
19:32There you go.
19:33Now go get it.
19:34She's a playboy.
19:35Crazy girl.
19:36Yes!
19:37He's bounding all over the place.
19:38Look at her.
19:39She's so cute.
19:40Ah!
19:41Oh, this could be the start of a really beautiful relationship.
19:43Oh, my gosh, isn't it just?
19:44That was huge.
19:45Good girl.
19:46Good girl.
19:47It's just me.
19:48She's on the bench between them.
19:49Oh, my God.
19:50Lou, Lou, Lou, Lou, Lou, Lou.
19:51I kind of felt victorious.
19:52I'd won the trust of this little dub.
19:55When I could see the connections and the little ones that I could see, I could see the connections
20:00and the little sparks between Luna and Kira, it was brilliant.
20:05The only reservation is she's not going to just come in and all of a sudden be everybody's
20:23friendly dog.
20:24We've got to make sure that we fit Luna as well, what she needs.
20:29I like Luna.
20:31I think we should adopt her.
20:33That's up to them.
20:36I also think we should adopt her.
20:38I second that.
20:39That's two votes.
20:41Anyone else?
20:42You're really rocking the Christmas tutie.
20:50Oh, Chico time!
20:55If I move over...
20:58Oh, I like that you have to move over to one side.
21:01That's what happens at home.
21:02So I'll be sat on the couch, really comfortable, and he'll just go, stare at me, and sometimes
21:09I'll end up on the floor.
21:10What's he looking for?
21:11A sister?
21:12A girlfriend?
21:13He's thinking girlfriend.
21:14Character or looks?
21:17Chico?
21:18I think he wants both.
21:19I'd say someone that can put him in his place when he's getting too in their face.
21:24He had a sister, Holly, quite dominant over him and stuff as well, so he knew his position.
21:31So this is Holly and Chico on Christmas Day.
21:37So Holly was a diva.
21:39Very stroppy, very demanding.
21:41Chico and Holly, they seem to compliment each other.
21:44She brought out the best in him and him in her as well.
21:50We lost her last October.
21:52Oh, I'm sorry.
21:53She was a Dorset all-time bulldog.
21:56Sounds like she was a very big personality in his life.
22:00It's affected him.
22:02It's heartbreaking, isn't it, when he makes that little sound?
22:06So are you looking for another bulldog or are you open to other breeds?
22:11I'm definitely a big bulldog fan.
22:14Bulldogs are the ones I look at first.
22:16OK.
22:17We'll go and work on it.
22:18Just in a minute.
22:20Good boy.
22:21Get me a doggie.
22:22Good boy.
22:25Prance like Prancer.
22:27Need some antlers and then you'll be a reindeer.
22:30We'll be all right.
22:32Good girl.
22:34After arriving together as strays,
22:36the Wood Green team have been assessing Jenny and Dory's behaviour.
22:42We're seeing more reactivity from both of them,
22:45kind of feeding off of each other.
22:47Good girl. What's in here?
22:49So we do think splitting them is going to be better for both of them.
22:53Get you settled.
22:55So although it is initially sad,
22:57when you know kind of that they're going to move forward a lot quicker apart,
23:00that does make it a little bit easier.
23:02I think you'll be absolutely fine.
23:04Hey, good girl.
23:06Yes.
23:07Well done.
23:08See you later.
23:10Good girl, Jenny.
23:13Good girl, Jenny.
23:18Hello.
23:19Hello.
23:20Hello.
23:21I would feel like I've let you down if I didn't tell you that we do have a bulldog.
23:30Yeah.
23:31You know, she would be very much a close replica to the dog that you've lost.
23:37She's six years old, very affectionate, and she'd be a great dog for Chico.
23:42And her name is Queen.
23:44My God.
23:45You've gone on a date, Chico.
23:48Yeah.
23:49Queen is definitely the sassy Queen.
23:53Definitely got a swagger going on.
23:56She kind of gives that side eye, but it's like a regal, yeah, I know that I'm good.
24:02Queen has not been lucky in love so far.
24:05You just want to sit there and look gorgeous.
24:08Yeah.
24:09It's really hard for Queen to be in kennels because she is so affectionate.
24:14She's just so lovable.
24:17How can you not love this little face?
24:19Think this will be your time to shine?
24:35What song is guaranteed to get your dog's attention this time here?
24:40I have no idea.
24:42Oh, Christmas treat.
24:45Oh, my God, that's terrible.
24:47You've got to make it to town.
24:50Now you're ready for your date, Chico.
24:52She's called Queen, so you need to treat her like one.
24:59If we got a dog ready for Christmas this year, it would be the best present for Chico.
25:05Since Holly went, he looks so sad.
25:08I know that he misses her because when I take him out, he'll be all bubbly and excited to meet other dogs.
25:17And then when he gets home, he just looks lonely.
25:20I really think that him getting a new partner will bring out the giddiness and all the things that we love about him.
25:32You're watching the dog now, aren't you? You know what's coming.
25:35This is a really big day, exciting day for him.
25:39This is Queen.
25:47Oh, how beautiful is Queen?
25:52Oh, oh!
25:53That's a nice play bow.
25:56Woo-hoo!
25:57Oh, he likes her.
25:58And she's play bowing back, which is lovely.
26:03She's made a brilliant first impression.
26:05Look at her face!
26:08Oh, my goodness.
26:10Good boy.
26:11Oh, she's definitely enjoying the interaction.
26:13Confident.
26:14Yeah, definitely.
26:17She's a really nice age.
26:19Got that life experience, so she knows how to handle herself.
26:24See?
26:25God-bye.
26:27This is brilliant, isn't it?
26:28This is exactly what we wanted to see from them.
26:31Good-bye.
26:35What do you think we should have for Christmas dinner this year?
26:38Fillet steak.
26:39Oh, I don't even want turkey and, like, pigs in blankets.
26:42I can take it or leave it.
26:45It's supposed to be mistletoe.
26:47What are you saying?
26:48I'm going to have a little kiss under the mistletoe.
26:56We can't have pigs in blankets with fillet steak, can't we?
26:59Oh, you can.
27:01Bringing the festive cheer.
27:03Tracy.
27:04Merry Christmas.
27:05Merry Christmas.
27:07And her husband, Rick.
27:09I love your hat.
27:10It's a Christmas pudding, is it?
27:11It is.
27:12And where's your Christmas hat?
27:13I don't wear a Christmas hat.
27:14I'll try.
27:15Get him in some antlers.
27:20Are you going to go with the hat, Rick?
27:26Look at that.
27:27Stunning.
27:28Gizzle.
27:29Hoo, hoo, hoo.
27:30Oh, humbug.
27:31Is this all the front?
27:32Are you really, really Christmasy?
27:33Is that what's going on?
27:34No.
27:35What's going on?
27:38I'll get proper into the Christmas spirit.
27:41Driving, singing.
27:43I need to have a bit of Mariah.
27:45Really?
27:46From my youth.
27:47No.
27:48No?
27:49No.
27:51We have good banter together.
27:52Yeah.
27:53And, you know, we've been together, like, 20-odd years.
27:56Was it love at first sight?
27:57I think it was for you, wasn't it, Rick?
27:59Sorry, you pursued me.
28:01You pursued him?
28:02Yes.
28:03We worked at the same place.
28:04And you followed him?
28:05Yes.
28:06So it was my job to get properties ready for new tenants.
28:09He was a tradesman.
28:11Everyone knew Rick.
28:12She followed me everywhere.
28:13I did not.
28:14Was there a chat up line in there?
28:16Was it literally, why are you following me?
28:18Yeah.
28:25Chico wants to be your friend.
28:28Hello, you.
28:29How are you doing?
28:30Oh, Chico.
28:32Oh, he loves her.
28:34Maybe a little bit too much.
28:36Chill out.
28:41Just to tell him he's been a bit too intense.
28:43Yeah.
28:44And just to back off a little bit.
28:46That's what he needs, though.
28:47Yeah.
28:48He does need a lady to tell him off.
28:50It's just a little bit too OTT on a first date.
28:53He's not very good at playing it cool, is he?
28:54No.
28:55Chico, that's a bit too much.
28:58Oh, OK, all right.
29:00You know, she's just asserting some authority, isn't she?
29:03He likes to be controlled.
29:05Yeah.
29:06That's what he's used to.
29:07Yeah.
29:08Yeah.
29:09She's getting a little bit fed up now, isn't she?
29:11Yeah.
29:12Come on, you come over here, have a little break from him.
29:15Just take this jumper off.
29:19You can see how desperate he is to make friends.
29:21Yeah, he just wants to be friends.
29:22Yeah.
29:25He's the softest dog.
29:27He needs this.
29:28He needs to have another dog there that can bring the best of him.
29:32Put a smile on his face.
29:36You need to keep your cool, Chico.
29:38He needs to play a bit of hard to get.
29:40He's too eager.
29:41What do you think of Queen?
29:42She's a stunner.
29:43She is.
29:44And she's such a character, isn't she?
29:46Got a slobber all over her face.
29:47Oh, lovely.
29:48Yeah, she loves the ears.
29:51How are you doing the big tickles?
29:53Is that what you want?
29:55I think they really like her and they desperately want this to work.
29:59It's whether Chico is going to be too much for her.
30:02Who's Chico?
30:03Are you more relaxed now?
30:05This is so lovely to see that they're just happy to be around each other.
30:08Just happy to chill.
30:09Are you turning on the cuteness even more now?
30:11Yes.
30:12Yeah, you are.
30:15You be friends.
30:16Yeah?
30:17Be friends.
30:18We will go out for a walk and see how they get on.
30:25Come on, Queen.
30:27When Chico was getting told off by Queen, she wasn't subtle with it.
30:32It was, right, that's enough.
30:34You get a treat when you don't bark at Chico.
30:37We want to take a little think about it.
30:40I'm just going to make sure that it is the right one and we're making the right choice for him as well.
30:46It feels a bit weird that we're on the date with them, I know.
30:48Have you considered what type of dog you might be looking for?
30:58No.
31:01I love all dogs.
31:03My issue is how the dog would cope with the wheelchair.
31:08Right, OK.
31:10Unfortunately, Rick had a freak accident.
31:14I fell off a table.
31:17Yeah.
31:18And I paralysed from the chest down.
31:21So sorry to hear that.
31:24I was round the next door neighbours and I just happened to be in their garden.
31:30A nice sunny day to see my friend.
31:33Ray-Bank holiday, wasn't it?
31:34Yeah, sitting on their garden table, just swigging my legs.
31:40And then I've had a coughing fit.
31:46Blacked out and fell off the table, gone straight head into the floor.
31:54And I was instantly paralysed.
31:57I couldn't move anything.
32:00It's been a real...
32:04Tough.
32:05It's been tough.
32:06It's been tough, yeah.
32:07It's been tough time.
32:08I'm just grateful that we've got him.
32:14We've still got his cheekiness and his charm.
32:17He's still the same person.
32:18He's still the same person.
32:19It's just that I can't walk.
32:20No.
32:21No.
32:23So all four limbs on Rick are affected.
32:27His spinal cord is just really badly bruised.
32:30And I was on the ward.
32:32I moved my big tail on my left foot.
32:36And I was like, wow.
32:38It's been 11 months.
32:39He went through lots of physio.
32:42I moved both arms.
32:43You know, but I can't do a lot elsewhere, can I?
32:47Not at the moment.
32:48Not at the moment.
32:52I miss a cuddle.
32:54And it's something that we're working on, isn't it?
32:56With, like, physio.
32:58So he can put his arm around me.
32:59Yeah.
33:01But having a dog snuggle up to you.
33:04Do you have some sofa time with the dog?
33:06You happy with him up on the furniture?
33:08Absolutely.
33:09Oh, yeah.
33:10Up on the furniture.
33:11It'll be spoiled.
33:12Yeah, I can tell.
33:15Age bracket?
33:17I'd like a younger dog, if possible.
33:20So we can spend more time with it.
33:21So we can spend more time with it, yeah.
33:24Yeah, we're going to go and have a look.
33:26Thank you!
33:28Oh, Rick!
33:33Oh, right.
33:34So we have just met Tracey and Rick.
33:38Tracey and Rick.
33:40What are they looking for?
33:41Temperament's got to be the main aspect, because Rick's in a wheelchair.
33:45He had an accident.
33:46I'm wondering about Jenny.
33:51Did you see that?
33:53Jenny came in with Dory.
33:56They've been doing really well now that they're separate.
34:00Jenny, she's really affectionate.
34:02She just loves a cuddle.
34:03She'll lean into you for attention.
34:05She's really, really sweet.
34:09She's ridiculous.
34:11She's really ready for her new home and ready to bring some Christmas joy into someone's lives who might have lost a bit of their spark.
34:19Is that a heartbeat I can hear?
34:24Yeah, my gosh, guys.
34:27We've had a look.
34:29We've found one that we really like.
34:32It's a little girl called Jenny.
34:35Jenny.
34:37She's approximately two.
34:38OK.
34:39So it's a nice age.
34:40Perfect.
34:41Yeah.
34:42She's unique.
34:43OK.
34:44And I think that she'll turn heads.
34:46Is she the little dog?
34:48She's no chihuahua.
34:49Right.
34:50Don't worry.
34:51Can't do that to your street cred.
34:53No, no, no.
34:55No.
34:56She loves to have a fuss and snuggle.
34:58Yeah.
34:59You're thinking, well, why is she here?
35:02And she had a tough time.
35:04She was found tied to a tree.
35:07Aww.
35:08And was brought into us to look after and find a new life.
35:14So, here we are.
35:17Wanna meet her?
35:18Let's go and meet Jenny.
35:19Yeah.
35:20Yeah.
35:21Awesome.
35:23Are you excited?
35:25We're going to meet some new people.
35:32We're going to meet Jenny.
35:35Wow.
35:38Since my accident, I can't do anything for myself much.
35:43The current terms of it has been hard. I'm not sure how you do, if I'm honest. You know what I mean? One minute you're alright, the next minute you're not.
35:59A little lip there, I think.
36:03This was our wedding anniversary. I think our 18th.
36:07It's very difficult seeing old photographs of us.
36:11Rick was always the loudest guy in the room.
36:13In the room.
36:17Everything has changed.
36:20Yeah.
36:21Apart from me and you.
36:23Yeah.
36:24That's still just the same.
36:26But look, I want to twat in his hair.
36:33Some things you say, honestly,
36:36I'm not weird.
36:38Why?
36:40At the moment, with Rick, he's very withdrawn.
36:46We've got a very diluted version of Rick.
36:51And I want to get some of that old Rick back.
36:58I can't believe someone left her tied to a tree.
37:02So sad.
37:04Rick's mood when he's around dogs just changes.
37:10His little face lights up.
37:13And it's just a joy.
37:16With a dog, Rick's confidence will grow.
37:20Seeing Rick happy is just everything to me.
37:29Is it used to kill us?
37:39Shall we get your Christmas dinner?
37:41Do you want some sausages?
37:42Pigs in blankets?
37:45Hello.
37:46This is Jenny.
37:48She's really affectionate and she loves treats.
37:51OK? I'm going to leave you to it.
37:54You're welcome.
37:56Jenny.
37:59I love her.
38:01Oh, did he just say, I love her?
38:03Did he just say that?
38:04He did, yeah.
38:05Yeah, he did.
38:06Oh, my God.
38:08Hi, little girl.
38:10Where are you going?
38:12Oh, shall I find you a treat?
38:15Jenny.
38:17Hi.
38:19Hi.
38:21Hello.
38:22I'm delighted, but obviously we've got to see what she thinks of Rick.
38:25Yeah, it's early days, isn't it?
38:26Yeah.
38:27Because he's not in a position to offer a hand or give her a treat.
38:32Good girl.
38:34Jenny, who's this?
38:37This might be your daddy.
38:40Jenny!
38:43Jenny!
38:47It's almost like she's unsure about Rick just sitting in the chair.
38:53What's this?
38:54Why's it for the boy?
38:55What about the boy?
38:56A dog's primary source of communication is body language.
39:00So they're watching our movements all of the time.
39:04And obviously, Rick can't move his body.
39:09You're naked.
39:10It's hard for her to work out.
39:12No.
39:14No?
39:16The only thing is, like, is whether she takes to us.
39:18I think she's beautiful.
39:20Come on, then.
39:22Come on, little girl.
39:24Let's go and see Rick.
39:27I would say Tracy was an angel sent down to save me.
39:31She's wonderful.
39:34Let's go and see Rick.
39:35And I wish I could do the same for her as she does for me.
39:43For her to be happy.
39:44To be happy.
39:57Do you like a snuggle?
39:59I like a snuggle, too.
40:01See, that's the type of cuddle she wants.
40:04Yeah.
40:05Come on.
40:09Come on.
40:10Come on.
40:11Good girl.
40:12Come on, Nick.
40:13Let's go and see Rick.
40:15Come on.
40:17Come on, baby.
40:20Jenny.
40:24Oh, Jenny.
40:26What's this?
40:28Come up.
40:30I would really love to see her get up to Rick's height on that sofa.
40:34Yeah.
40:35Hump.
40:36Hump.
40:37Hump.
40:38Hump.
40:39Hump.
40:40Hump.
40:41Hump.
40:42Hump.
40:43Hump.
40:44Hump.
40:45Hump.
40:46Hump.
40:47Hump.
40:48Hump.
40:49Hump.
40:50Hump.
40:51Hump.
40:52Jenny, come.
40:53Come.
40:54What's this?
40:55What's this?
40:56Oh, what's this, Jenny?
40:57Come on, girl.
40:59I just want the dog to accept us.
41:02That would be the start of a happy end to a sad, difficult time that we've had.
41:03Oh, come on, Jenny.
41:05Please.
41:06Please.
41:07Come.
41:08Come on.
41:09Hump.
41:10Yeah.
41:11Yes.
41:12Well done, Jenny.
41:14Yeah.
41:15Yeah.
41:16Yeah.
41:17Good girl.
41:21I think she's adorable.
41:22I think she is too.
41:23I didn't have any expectations to walk away with a dog.
41:24I didn't have any expectations to walk away with a dog.
41:55Is our life going to support a dog?
41:56Is our life going to support a dog?
41:58You can either just say flat out no forever, or you can just gracefully give in.
42:05Luna.
42:06Come on, honey.
42:07Say hello.
42:10Luna is my little bestie.
42:12Spin.
42:13She's so clever.
42:14Good girl.
42:15Fist bump.
42:16She knows so many tricks now.
42:18And her confidence has grown so much.
42:21Come on.
42:22Come here.
42:23Luna loves him.
42:25She's always trying to cuddle up next to him.
42:27Good girl.
42:28Oh, you like that.
42:29The connection that I wanted Kira to have with her dog is there.
42:33Because it's going to be her dog.
42:35It wasn't going to be mine.
42:36Now I have her, it's so much better.
42:40I think she feels completely loved and safe here.
42:44She's literally everything I wanted in her dog.
42:46Everything.
42:48She can't put dog on her Christmas list because she's already got a dog.
42:51No, no, she's already talking about getting another one.
42:53Oh, yes, she does want one.
42:54We've got one, can't we just have two?
42:57I shouldn't have taken her to Crufts.
42:59There you go, smelling beautiful.
43:07I wanted Chico to have a new friend.
43:10I just wanted that spark back with him,
43:12that he'd have somebody else that he could bounce off
43:14to give him and you Lisa life.
43:16I thought Queen was adorable.
43:19But she instantly put him in his place.
43:22We both had sort of reservations around if she'd keep up with him.
43:27We had a long talk about it and then in the end we decided not to.
43:35However, we did find him a friend.
43:38Tammy, come here.
43:40Good girl.
43:42Hello.
43:43Hello.
43:44We came across Tammy in our local dog rescue centre.
43:48She was a stray and now she's part of the family.
43:52She's a little softy.
43:54They give each other kisses.
43:56And they're just really good together, I think.
43:59Good boy.
44:00Good girl.
44:02Her and Chico spend all their time chasing each other,
44:04which is what we wanted.
44:06Go.
44:07Go on then.
44:08You tired now, Jiki?
44:10Chico's definitely a lot more content.
44:12He's just happier in himself again.
44:14But he's also, it's not like he's obsessed with her either.
44:17He can very much let her go and do her own thing,
44:19but he seems more content that she's in the house.
44:22Definitely Chico time again.
44:24Look at them together.
44:26Before we could even consider taking Jenny, we had to do lots of thinking.
44:36It was a really big decision that we had to make, really.
44:41Which took all of about 30 seconds.
44:43So, Jenny is now named Dottie.
44:52Dottie!
44:54She's fantastic.
44:56I absolutely worship her little paws that touch the ground.
44:59That's it.
45:00Love at first sight.
45:02Like, totally.
45:03Dottie's coming out of her shell now.
45:06Oh, she certainly is.
45:08Mmm, Dottie!
45:10She's very mischievous.
45:12She had the builder's lunch away.
45:15Dottie, what's this?
45:17Don't like Mr. Santa, Dottie, do you?
45:22Like me?
45:23About a humbug.
45:27Good girl!
45:28You do use your arms more to try and stroke her, don't you?
45:32Yeah, yeah.
45:33Right, Dottie.
45:35That's amazing.
45:37Yeah!
45:38She just makes me happy.
45:40You know, mornings, evenings, jumping on my bed.
45:44It's fantastic.
45:45For me to see you and Dottie together, your face just lights up Rick.
45:51It's just priceless.
45:53It's just made a massive difference.
45:56Could adopting a rescue dog change your life?
