00:07I'm Sarah Davies and crafting is my passion especially at Christmas that looks right
00:14thank you mama craft lovely so I'm on a mission to spread a bit of homemade festive magic one two
00:23each week I'll be joined by two celebrity crafters going head-to-head to make the best decorations
00:35oh it's a contest I mean I'm supposed to pick a winner man together we'll be spruising up our
00:45trees look to perfection I think I've got a bit low yes and sparkling up our centerpieces nicely so
01:02grab your glue guns and let's get Christmas crafting
01:15let the festive fun begin what do you think it's like the place isn't it I think so
01:24you don't want to get done for breaking and entering I've rested on our first date exactly
01:28that's before a sherry today I'm joined by actor podcaster and comedy matriarch Hillary Whitehall
01:37and curry legend Tony Maudsley ready to try their hands on some Christmas creativity
01:44is this on your street yeah I have to say that I feel I'm slightly more in the um gifted amateur
01:50I'm excited actually because I love a bit of crafting I won't say I'm an expert when my son Jack
01:56did art projects at school I did get involved no teacher actually ever said well done Mrs. Whitehall
02:03but I know they thought it well that's 10 steps ahead of me I think the last time I made something
02:09I must have been about five and I made a mess of it then I'm excited but I'm also nervous because I
02:13don't want to make a mess of things who knows how I'm gonna fare today fingers crossed I will let
02:19you do the honor thank you that's how Christmassy I'm feeling oh are you excited yeah yeah I'm excited let's do it
02:41everything my celebrity guests make over the next few weeks is to transform this beautiful house
02:50into a magical Christmas party venue for some very deserving people so let's crack on so are you
02:57excited very excited yes yes so have you done much crafting before a fair bit with the children and then
03:04there was a big break and now I've got grandchildren so I'm needing to hone these skills up now right I can
03:09work on that I can work on that yeah how about you Tony big crafter I think probably the last time I
03:14crafted it was two years ago I decided to make my own front doorie oh wow yeah I mean it started off
03:20this big and it finished off this big you nearly pulled the front door of its hinges more is more
03:25kind of yeah I hope you can teach me some refinement today right okay so we're gonna do some Christmas
03:32stars right two three four five you need five straws for this however big you want your star is how big
03:39we're gonna cut these down she's definitely gonna want a big one because we already know he goes large
03:43I'm gonna be keeping a close eye on you both over the course of the day to see who does the best we're in
03:49competition here Hillary allegedly I'm a bad loser choose your weapon you two look dangerous with
03:57those glue guns okay so I'm going to go I think about half the size here okay so and all you're
04:03going to do is you're going to cut all five of your straws down okay there we go right okay a little bit
04:09of twine everyone yeah this will be a brilliant one you could do with the grandkids Hillary right what
04:16we're going to do then is you're just going to thread your twine through your straws is the
04:20lick important oh yes very very essential we're putting all of them through you're going to thread
04:26all five of these onto a chain yes you know what's happening here what's happening here when you were
04:33five years old and you would be concentrating at school and your tongue will go I just noticed myself
04:38doing it right so once you've got your little necklace of paper straws
04:45all we're going to do is tie them together at the top and we're going to just pull them tight right
04:51once we get to there you just get any two of them together yeah and once you've got the two together
04:56just twist them yeah and once they twisted yeah it goes underneath at the top yeah and once it's
05:02underneath you could untwist the twist oh yeah got it I'm back to where I started did that happen
05:11let me do that again so twist two of them together I had a bit of a problem with the paper straws it's
05:15my fat fingers you see that that just I mean Hillary was like in and out in and then she whipped up a
05:20start help Hillary twist then up underneath yeah and then you just pull them apart pull them at the
05:27bottom pulling the wrong one apart oh yes love it that looks good thank you for your help yes
05:33that is so simple Hillary's nailed that done too now I'm on a roll I'm on a roll she is on a roll
05:41oh these will look great on the Christmas tree won't they definitely okay the killer question go on when
05:47it acceptable to get the trio 6th of November 6th of November get bonfire and I took the way first
05:54and then it starts to feel Christmas doesn't it I don't want it just there for two weeks I want it
05:58there for two months I want to enjoy it once it's done so I'm mad after my own heart yeah I love the
06:03Christmas yeah so how about in your house Michael Whitetool if he had his way would have it up on
06:08Christmas Eve and down by Boxing Night yes we have an argument here about it and I usually win
06:14actually it's up for much longer than he would like so the tree that I bought the lights built
06:19in I love a colored light Michael likes white and every time I walk past I put it onto multicolored
06:26flashing and every time he walks for past he puts it onto white static so you know who's been through
06:33the room last how we take a moment to notice oh yes but three now oh you guys thank you it's only
06:42mozzie stuff yes there you go
06:44well now we've covered level one star making yes I want you to make a five-point star with five
07:04sticks thank you five sticks for yourself two three all you want to do is basically replicate
07:12this and then once we've got the star made we're going to use the glue gun okay to just hold that
07:18star in place now do we need any glue gun training you to I mean I've never used a glue gun sir all
07:24training very welcome okay right so I've put mine on my little bow and hard what we'll do is we'll
07:30position the first bits down just to hold them in place do we need to wiggle it about to get glue
07:35all over it or just so once they're held in place we can go and add more glue to make sure it's really
07:39well does it matter that it's not perfect no because we're going to perfect it a little bit later when
07:44you were making things yeah Jack when he was a kid yeah how did you survive without a glue gun
07:50well do you know one of the my proudest moments I don't know if you remember the Tracy Island
07:55Christmas debacle oh Tracy Island Thunderbirds I made it so my mum made me a Tracy Island so I would
08:03have puppy a machine toilet yes Tracy Island awesome she's definitely a crafter then sadly I think it
08:09was my finest hour yeah well I hear that's been downhill ever since but Sarah yes I think I might
08:15have um glued my stars at the table I've just know don't you worry we'll just strategically tap it off
08:22right we'll come on let mine's come up in one piece how did you get that off the table Hillary did I got
08:27the scissors and just did you it eased it off it's coming it's common there you go look at that is it
08:35feeling nice dirty it is feeling pretty steady yeah we're ready to move on to the next yeah I think we
08:39are right what we're going to do is we're going to wrap our star in jute twine now you can either
08:45tie a knot in it to get it started or you can stick it down with a bit of hot glue right so what I'm
08:51doing is I'm just wrapping it around a few times just generally randomly generally randomly round each
08:58arm round each arm but then what we need to do is every now and again is pop a little glob of hot glue
09:04just so that we keep it nice and tight these are starting to look really good and they start and
09:11take shape don't they and come on this is just a bit of jute twine yeah do you think you'll get Jack
09:16doing any crafting do you know what he's quite arty Jack he seems an art scholar at school really yeah
09:22and went and did history of art at Manchester University for about 10 seconds comedy career
09:28gang what I do want you all to do at some point as well is find out which way your stars looking the
09:35best so it'll look nicer there that is my top there look really good yeah what I'm gonna do is while I'm
09:42here and I'm gonna put a little blob of glue and I'm gonna give myself a nice little loop to hang it
09:49and then wrap it round a couple of more times you're getting on great that you know what I'm
09:55gonna do while you're doing that I've been working on a bigger one whoa size of that I'm feeling
10:01slightly inadequate now with our little stars exactly the same technique I've just used bigger
10:07dowels and I'm gonna add a little bit of twine on to that one while you're going a little bit of
10:11extra gold all time and to finish it off you just got to cut the end and we're just going to glue the
10:16ending right Hillary's going for it going for the snip and the glue slip and the prod presumably I
10:23prodded it in a little bit what did you do then you glued it and buried it buried it yeah I've
10:29given you some lights there by the way you know oh you're going to unwinding your lights yes love a
10:35light do you want me to unwind them for you to I am about to make a holy mess of this on let's do a
10:39swap them so glad you're here Sarah do you know what I'll keep you right do you think you could
10:43get any of your curry cast craft absolutely yeah yeah there you go they're all very jealous when
10:48I thought I was coming here yeah yeah yeah oh I love that have you been in curry I've been in
10:53curry for six years wow wow I used to love Benador oh did you know I've got my hot pants under this
11:03table oh oh we're back we did one Christmas episode which was shot in the middle of the summer so it's
11:13about 32 degrees we had Tim Healy stood on the roof of the Benador palace with his wig on sweating
11:21spraying snow all over the road um are you going with the lights yeah so we're just twirling it
11:28round do we stick them on and then just hide that inside at the back and then we're just going to
11:34wind the lights round yeah switch them on Tony let's see how they're looking oh yes and I've just
11:40given you a nice little sprig that we can add on to the edge as well you've gone mad nice little bit of
11:47foliage on the edge there right so all I've done on me big one there is added a a nice ribbon to be
11:55able to hang it up with nice tied a little bow on the front and then these are just they just all pop
12:01in just it adds a nice little something doesn't it I'm going to celebrate this this is again so simple
12:09but so effective I mean it looks kind of rustic looks like it should be on a tree loving the glue
12:17gun as well I definitely want a glue gun and then all I added was a little bit of extra gold and it
12:23just gives it that little bit of something else but it's exactly the same technique as you do up you
12:28two are finished anyway we have how will oh look at those I might display with my other star oh look
12:36could I just say something about your star go on it would make a fabulous athlete because it's got
12:40quite a wide base like meself I'm not gloating here but I'm pretty impressed with my star I really am
12:49our personalities have come through in our stars we've seen Hillary's theirs is all athletic and neat and a bit like
12:56Hillary nice and slender mine's a bit rough and ready a bit round around the edges and I'm there's
13:02also a star with a very white piece well you know what I'm thinking of course don't you that I'm now
13:10gonna have to make two more because I've got three grandchildren so I can't leave one for each well
13:14Hillary don't you worry I've got plenty of crafting lined up the rest of the day for us we are just
13:19getting started ready to start on the next week ready for let's read bring it on
13:26oh hello someone's been shopping oh I told you we were going big I told you magic tick
13:32I love that we can get creative without needing weeks of prep just a little bit of foliage and an
13:50Amazon delivery right so I've got everything we needed oh it's like Christmas what well
13:56how funny you should say that a little bit of for snow oh yes it's Christmas without snow but for
14:14no but for sure and some salt oh switch works great for a snowy look and okay I've got some glittery
14:22yeah oh of course you have a little bit of felt oh now this is right I love a bit of felt yeah now
14:28I've got plenty of little twigs I didn't know how good we'd be able to forage though was I slightly
14:33curious about the Epsom yes I am is there a hot tub in the garden you wish Hillary you wish and then
14:39this oh whoa we're going to be crafting with wow look at that right so biscuits in there yeah oh no
14:48actually we're not going biscuits that's a shame no Christmas cookies what we are going to do is
14:54we're going to create a whole scene inside the big jar nice liking that yeah right come on then
15:00you've got one jar reach here you go Hillary oh thank you very much heavy lovely thank you so Tony I'm
15:07going to need those little artist palettes oh we're getting properly artistic now I thought that
15:12was for eggs didn't fall over well eggs when you're like that's right passing them here and I'll
15:19put us a little bit of glue in the middle of each of them so this is just a regular PVA glue plenty
15:24of it right and then we're going to need those Epsom salts and what we're going to do is we're going to
15:29create a snow scene with a little bit of a window so that you can look into the jar but you've got
15:36snow in the background okay so you could take your lid off if you wanted and I would recommend doing
15:42a little bit at a time so maybe we would do around your window first of all yeah I'm going for a wavy
15:48bottom are you hello so now that I've pasted the glass yeah how do I get the salt on we're going to paint
16:00and then we're just going to literally tap the salt with the hands with your hands sprinkle situation a
16:07sprinkling situation I like it yeah but I assume we're doing the salts on this tray so that yes I'm
16:13going in she's going in Hillary's going in this is lovely because it's very messy you're very messy
16:19yeah how are you getting on there Tony you've been very quiet I'm in the zone I'm in the zone I'm just
16:24about oh sorry I'm nicking um these salts there is that a bit of sabotage going on there Tony
16:29I'm guessing you've probably filmed Christmas on curry already have we have so on about the first of
16:45October you come down to the set and you can smell turkey and you can smell a roast dinner eight o'clock
16:51in the morning when you just finish your scrambled eggs you then have to sit down and eat a full-on
16:57cooked Christmas dinner which are brilliant art department as though we've been up all night cooking
17:01this Christmas dinner oh lovely brilliant oh I feel like I'm getting all the behind the scenes
17:05gossip here as well what do you want to know anyone get a bit uh Larry around Christmas well
17:13a few people are probably get murdered as this combination street you know but that's fine though
17:17they keep me busy because I'm the undertaker so oh right of course I usually have a very busy Christmas
17:22that's not good probably don't need to put more salt on it no I think that looks great now I think we
17:28should leave those 10 minutes and let's do a bit of a clean up get the epsom salts off the table and
17:32then we're exaggerating the fraction to go inside okay okay so while they are just drying a little bit I
17:44thought should we start and make our bits to go inside yes please yes right so you've got some glittery yarn and I
17:50thought we could all make an angel and then we could dangle it down from the top nice have
17:54you made any angels before only in the snow yeah oh yeah piece of cardboard yeah and what we're going
18:00to do is we're going to wrap this round our cardboard I mean we're obviously going to make our tassel into an
18:08angel but I mean this is how you would make tassels to decorate anything tassel tastic it is
18:14tassel tastic Hillary I love it yeah all my angels to be as chubby as my star
18:20oh right if you want a chubby angel then maybe he's had a little bit more than yeah I think I might leave mine I think she'll be quite nice
18:30okay how's that he's still got that's looking good yeah right so if you trim off your yarn
18:38right then what I do want you to do is cut yourself now we need quite a long piece because we're going to dangle her
18:46from the the top of our jars with this so we can always trim it later okay yeah yeah looking good
18:54look good with a flourish look oh she's there with the scissors thread it through yeah and then tie it at the top
19:02just tie it just tie a knot at the top nice and tight right so if that's going to be our top yeah what
19:10we're going to do is just take it off the off here first unless we've wound it too tight yeah no you've got that
19:18and then we're just trimming through them all at the bottom yeah right right gonna go flourish now
19:24oh oh there we go very satisfying it is that noise yeah I think Hillary's got the edge on me she's
19:30very nimble with her fingers so I just need to be careful that I don't start losing because I think
19:38she's better than she's letting on yeah yeah I've got my eye on her now can you see that she looks a
19:44little bit rainbow-esque at the moment yes yes and what I want to do is bring her all together yeah so
19:49we're going to give her a little bit of a body and then the rest coming down so if you cut a longer
19:53piece of yarn and what I want you to do is tie it round her midriff oh several times several times
20:01okay yeah so can you see so we're going to oh so she's got a head I see well no that's going to be
20:07her body for a head yeah I've got you a little bead yes okay all we're going to do is we're going to
20:12thread the wool through the bead it's all about the lick it's all about the lick we've got we've got this down
20:19packed now haven't we we have right now we could tie a big knot above a head but we don't need to guys
20:25because we've got our glue guns so all I want you to do is put a little blob of glue more or less into
20:33into the wooden bead and then pull it down and bead on this is now like brain surgery
20:39it's hot going in Hillary oh nice yeah going in oh
20:45pull through darling do you know what I want to do with my angel I'm going to give her a little hair trim
20:49on the bottom okay so just so that she's all a little bit uniform so do you know what I thought
20:54I'd do I've tied a little ball for you which I thought would make her wings at the back nice so
21:00all we need to do is that yes right so there are it oh Tony love it I think he's going to give me a
21:13good run for my money I think he's got hidden debts and I need to look to my laurels I think he's going to
21:20run me to the line bring it on I feel that she needs eyes and things oh is that a bit radical
21:32she's gone rogue normally without faces but if you want to give her some eyes we'll I'll find you a
21:38sharpie when we have a bit of a break later now obviously we're going to put them in our little
21:42snowy scenes but you could do all sorts of these you could hang them on the tree you could oh if you've
21:48got presents you could use it as like a little tag on your presents yeah okay so if you get your jar
21:54up it should be dry now okay these are heavy oh yeah so a bit of snow in the bottom yes please
22:02right you've got a bag of four snow there four snow four snow I love it like the true northerner in me here
22:12I love it no you don't want too much in that's looking good Tony I'll put some Christmas lights
22:18out and then your lights you see you'll just pop on top to me oh look at that like a twinkling masterpiece
22:26and then you can have the angel flying over the top she's going to look great in there yes that's
22:31that's dead center and she looks great well we're now going to build a little village inside
22:37for our angel to fly over I love it now you are crafter extraordinaires right let's get them out
22:45the way and let's get started on the next bit
22:49it wouldn't be Christmas without a fun festive treat and this one's guaranteed to disappear faster than
23:04Santa on Christmas Eve I was thinking we'd do a little treat for Hillary and Tony a little kind of
23:11mid crafting interlude pick-me-up so I'm gonna make some peanut butter chocolate cups in little
23:17reindeer shapes this is a foolproof way to melt the chocolate then gonna make them in the peanut butter
23:29cups so I've just got some tiny little cake cases just popping a little bit of chocolate into the base
23:35that'll form the bottom part of the peanut butter cup and then I want it to kind of come up the sides
23:43so I'm just going to ease it round like this right I've gone for squeezy peanut butter to make life easier
23:55and then we're going to seal that in with even more chocolate
24:07now I've seen the fancy chocolatiers like give them all the tap oh just levels them out perfectly then we just need to make them into reindeers so I've got some little pretzels I thought they'd snap in half and make little antlers
24:23and then I've got some little edible reindeer eyes and then I've got some little edible reindeer eyes and the red noses are just little sweeties
24:30and then they're ready to go in the fridge
24:42and then they're ready to go in the fridge
24:49and then all we need to do is take them out of their little wrappers
25:02now they look smashing and I think Hillary and Tony are going to love them

34:42and I've got just the trick to style up your favourite Christmas tipple
34:49so we've done a scene in a jar
34:52I thought why not do a little Christmas scene in a glass
34:55this is a really fun treat and super easy
34:58all I'm going to use a little bit of rosemary
35:01some pomegranate seeds
35:03we're going to freeze it ready
35:05now this is the low tack tape
35:08that is going to hold our little miniature Christmas tree in place
35:13so you can see there I've just got a little bit of a gap in the middle
35:16that looks about a good size there
35:21and then you see that
35:23will be held just nicely
35:25in the glass
35:27and then we want it to freeze in place there
35:29so I'm going to start off just with a little bit of water
35:31because it's going to be going into the freezer
35:33lovely
35:34and then a couple of little pomegranates in
35:37and they should sink to the bottom
35:39and give it a little bit of colour
35:41and I'm going to do one of them for each of us
35:45now they are looking super

36:05and then you just need to take the washi tape off
36:08and what you'll see is that Christmas tree
36:11will have frozen
36:13all perfectly into place
36:17and then all that's left is to add your tipple of choice
36:20now I'm just adding tonic water to these
