Transcript
00:00— This is a person now who's been let off scot-free with no sense of accountability
00:04of the moral and ethical wrong of his actions.
00:08Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago police are blasting the state attorney's decision
00:13to drop all the charges against actor Jussie Smollett, who was accused of lying to police
00:17about a reported hate crime assault.
00:20The mayor told reporters this is a whitewash of justice.
00:23After the charges were officially dropped Tuesday morning, Smollett told press he always maintained
00:27his innocence, and his story about what allegedly took place that night in January never changed.
00:32I've been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one.
00:37I would not be my mother's son if I was capable of one drop of what I would have been accused
00:41of.
00:42But Smollett's statement really seemed to sting the Chicago mayor.
00:44Mr. Smollett is still saying that he is innocent, still running down the Chicago police department.
00:50How dare him?
00:52How dare him?
00:53Meanwhile, Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson said he stood by his department's
00:57work and believed the charges against the Empire actor were justified.
01:01Do I think justice will serve?
01:03No.
01:04I think this city is still owed an apology.
01:06As for the $10,000 bond Smollett forfeited, the mayor said $10,000 doesn't even come close
01:11to what the city spent in resources.
01:13And he did this all in the name of self-promotion.
