00:04We're getting a detailed look into one of the epic and equally terrifying stunts Tom Cruise
00:09pulled off for his latest Mission Impossible film. A recent behind-the-scenes featurette
00:14from Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 detailed the epic speed-flying scene Cruise
00:19filmed. The actor, known for going above and beyond for his stunts, learned how to do what
00:24director Christopher McQuarrie called one of the most dangerous sports in the world
00:28for the latest installment in the action franchise.
00:31Tom's doing a sport very few people on this planet do. It's called speed flying.
00:35McQuarrie went on to explain that while it may look similar, speed flying is not skydiving.
00:40Skydiving is fairly predictable. Speed flying is incredibly unpredictable.
00:46The air sport, similar to paragliding, combines elements of parachute swooping to allow people
00:51to fly at high speeds down mountainsides while maintaining close to the slope. In the footage,
00:56Cruise noted that he's been training for the stunt for a few years now.
01:02And we're landing in it at incredibly high speed, over 80 kilometers an hour.
01:08Quarrie added that although it looks quite beautiful when flying very close to rocks,
01:12the crew was in absolute terror behind the cameras. However, taking on death-defying stunts
01:17is nothing new to Cruise. Throughout his career, the actor has continued to push the limits for projects,
01:23from scaling a skyscraper to dangling on the outside of a plane.
01:27It is truly a one-of-a-kind adventure.
01:39Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 is set to hit theaters on July 12th.
