00:00Pope Leo XIV has met with leaders of the Eastern and Western Churches in Iznik, Turkey,

00:07on Friday to pray for unity among Christians.

00:12At the site of the historic Council of Nicaea, held in 225 AD,

00:17the Pope joined Patriarch Bortholomeo and other religious leaders to recite the Nicene Creed.

00:22For it was with great wisdom and foresight that he...

00:27Leo called the Creed fundamental for moving towards full unity

00:31and urged overcoming centuries of division.

00:34In the very place where it was held.

00:36We are gathered here not simply to remember the past.

00:42We are here to bear living witness to the same faith expressed by the fathers of Nicaea.

00:52We return to this wellspring of the Christian faith in order to move forward.

01:02Representatives of Syriac, Coptic, Armenian and Protestant churches also attended the event.

01:09Before the prayer, a small protest by the Islamic New Welfare Party ended peacefully under police supervision.
