Here's How Long Jennifer Lopez's Super Bowl 2020 Makeup Took
Transcript
00:00Even if you didn't watch Super Bowl 2020, you've probably heard about the epic halftime
00:05show which was headlined by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.
00:08The incredible performance was a showstopper, with the two iconic performers giving some
00:12of the best performances of their careers.
00:15Shakira and Lopez sang some of their most beloved hits during the halftime show, and
00:19both wore absolutely stunning outfits for the big performance.
00:23But shows like this one aren't put together overnight.
00:25They take a lot of preparation, practice, and makeup.
00:29In Lopez's case, putting together that look took a lot of work.
00:33Lopez's makeup artist, Scott Barnes, opened up about how long it took to create her jaw-dropping
00:37Super Bowl look.
00:38While we'd expect that J.Lo would have taken at least a couple of hours to get ready for
00:42the Super Bowl, it actually took much, much longer to get her prepped for the big event.
00:48Barnes told Elle,
00:49We started at 10 a.m. this morning and got to Jennifer's house at around 10.30 a.m.
00:53She was doing some rehearsing, we were doing fittings, and then nails started and hair,
00:57and then makeup.
00:58But I didn't finish it yet, so I left the house around 3 p.m. with a police escort.
01:02Yeah, a police escort.
01:04He added, quote,
01:06I started makeup again around 4.30 p.m. and did that until 5.30 p.m.
01:10We did a quick little run-through, and then we finished up and we were on stage.
01:14It was crazy.
01:15Barnes also made sure to touch up the star's makeup before she took the stage, adding to
01:19the prep time.
01:20Seconds before it was time for her to perform, Barnes was at her side to guarantee that Lopez's
01:25look was absolutely flawless.
01:27Considering she went on at 8 p.m., that's about a 10-hour process from start to finish,
01:32reports Page Six.
01:33She must really love her makeup artist.
01:35I need makeup, man.
01:38Bring me the makeup.
01:40Barnes dished,
01:41We were standing on the side, and I was like, make sure I get powder.
01:44Make sure I have lip gloss.
01:46Make sure I have bronzer.
01:47At that point, I was using a ton of products, my palette, my new lip glosses that are coming
01:51out, Marc Jacobs' bronzer, and Marc Jacobs' eyeliner, to be exact.
01:55That's what we did the smokey eye with, and it was so great and amazing.
01:59It was so soft and worked so well.
02:01And get this.
02:02If you felt like Lopez's Super Bowl 2020 look had a bit of a throwback vibe, that's because
02:06Barnes was inspired by some vintage looks.
02:09He explained,
02:10My vibe for this was Versace Supermodel, the 90s.
02:13It was very Peter Lindbergh shoots with the skirt, the leather, and the hats, and I was
02:17like, OMG, this reminds me of Linda Evangelista.
02:20It could be Christy Turlington and all of the girls.
02:22I wanted to give the nod to that, and that's where the makeup inspiration came from.
02:26Barnes also had to make sure the makeup look went with Lopez's outfit changes, and that
02:30it wasn't washed out by the bright lights of the Super Bowl stage.
02:34Something that proved to be a bit of a challenge.
02:36He admitted,
02:37I felt like the light was the one thing I needed to figure out.
02:39I felt like the light was very strong up there.
02:42I was like, I have to do this eye punchier, or else it's going to disappear.
02:45Thank God for that eyeliner, because it literally saved my life.
02:49If you want to recreate Lopez's Super Bowl look for yourself, we don't blame you.
02:53Thankfully, Barnes offered some tips for those looking to recreate the soon-to-be-iconic look
02:57at home.
02:58The best advice?
03:00Always use bronzer.
03:01I used the Marc Jacobs bronzer and toasted all the edges, and kept the center a little
03:05bit lighter.
03:06I used my highlighter kit, Glowy & Showy.
03:08I used my new lip glosses that are coming out in about a month.
03:11It's a little too soon to be using them, but I'm using them because I love them.
03:14I did a smokey eye, and I also did a little bit of a small stout cut crease and a shimmer
03:18on the lid.
03:19The key is you can't just make the eye close up with too much smoke.
03:23You want to make sure it stays open.
03:24Thanks, Scott!
