00:01:29Hey, save those whistles for me, will you?
00:01:33I'm just acknowledging the gifts that are going to land me on the PGA Tour next year.
00:01:37Oh, just don't forget you've got the cutest caddy around.
00:01:40Cutest caddy, best wife.
00:01:41Hmm, forget them.
00:01:50Hey, Romeo, let's go.
00:01:52Hey, move it along!
00:01:55I guess I better not lose my job just yet.
00:02:02You sure we're done here?
00:02:03I love our picnics.
00:02:18Plus, in this spot, no one can see what a gargantuan appetite my wife has.
00:02:22Well, I guess I'm eating for two.
00:02:30For two.
00:02:36Wait, are you saying...
00:02:40Babe?
00:02:42Are you happy?
00:02:50Are you joking?
00:02:51Of course I'm happy.
00:02:53When does it happen?
00:02:55Well, I'm probably about four weeks, so eight months makes October.
00:02:59I'm going to be a dad.
00:03:06Yeah, and a great dad.
00:03:14Do you think you can come home a little bit early tonight?
00:03:19I like to call my parents and give them lots of time to freak out and lose their minds with excitement.
00:03:23Sure, sure.
00:03:24But I'd like to wait to tell my parents that...
00:03:28I think it'd be best if we tell them in person.
00:03:31What?
00:03:33Mama's always wanted a grandkid.
00:03:36It's not the daughter-in-law that comes with a grandkid.
00:03:39She doesn't get to decide that.
00:03:49I still think it's crazy.
00:03:51Your parents own the whole town.
00:03:54For me, it's just where I grew up.
00:03:56I don't think so.
00:03:58You're like the prince around here.
00:04:01Does that make you a princess?
00:04:03Never said I wouldn't live.
00:04:08It's time to head up to the homestead.
00:04:13Remember, we've got news.
00:04:16It's going to turn your parents' world upside down.
00:04:19Let's trust in that.
00:04:23We so rarely go south anymore.
00:04:26And your father has such responsibilities.
00:04:28Last month, he spent an entire week supervising the removal of the town's septic system.
00:04:33Was very involved.
00:04:34I'll show you the plans later.
00:04:36You need an engineering degree.
00:04:38Downside is, we don't get to see you kids enough.
00:04:42Well, um, we might have a reason for you to travel down a little bit more.
00:04:49Um, Lisa's pregnant.
00:04:57We're pregnant.
00:04:58Oh my god.
00:04:59Oh my god!
00:05:00Yes!
00:05:00That is wonderful!
00:05:02Oh, Jesus!
00:05:03Congratulations, son.
00:05:06We thought you were going to ask for more money.
00:05:09But you have this amazing news.
00:05:11Yes, it's amazing.
00:05:13Oh, sit, sit!
00:05:14How far along are you, dear?
00:05:15About five months.
00:05:16It's all five months.
00:05:18No.
00:05:18And here I thought you just put on a little bit of weight.
00:05:20Oh, Mom.
00:05:21Well, I have put on weight, but all for good reason.
00:05:24This is great news.
00:05:26I just don't understand why you waited so long to tell me.
00:05:30We just wanted to be sure.
00:05:33First baby and all.
00:05:35Well, I am so excited.
00:05:37Let's go upstairs and dig out some of Darren's old baby clothes.
00:05:40Oh.
00:05:41Oh, I have kept them all.
00:05:43Well, we don't know if it's going to be a boy.
00:05:47Oh, it's going to be a boy.
00:05:51Let's break out that bottle of 12-year-old Macallan I've been hiding.
00:05:56Unless you want to go and take part in the maternity clothes search.
00:06:00Nope.
00:06:03Oh, wow.
00:06:07Oh.
00:06:07Darren never talked about it, really, but I just, I thought it might be important for
00:06:14the baby to know about his biological parents.
00:06:17Oh, I don't know.
00:06:18We adopted Darren at birth.
00:06:21Yes, but you still have the records about his parents, right?
00:06:24Certainly.
00:06:25I mean, he's always had amazingly good health, so there's never been any reason for concern.
00:06:29I just thought there might be other factors I'd be good to know about now that the baby's coming.
00:06:35Like what, exactly?
00:06:37I don't know what you mean.
00:06:40We raised Darren as our own.
00:06:43He has our values.
00:06:46Oh.
00:06:47Oh, look at this!
00:06:50This was one of my favorites.
00:06:52Oh.
00:06:53Oh, the baby will look so cute in this.
00:06:55Take it.
00:06:56Oh, wow.
00:06:56Okay.
00:06:58Oh.
00:06:59Huh.
00:07:00Wow.
00:07:00They cast the heads to your specs, and then you get them in a couple of weeks.
00:07:05But I wanted the opinion of a future pro.
00:07:09I haven't made the tour yet, but I'd say there's other ways to cure a slice besides changing clubs.
00:07:16Well, take a club that forgives.
00:07:17I don't have your swing.
00:07:19How's your game?
00:07:21You keeping that handicap down?
00:07:23It's good.
00:07:25I just need to find the time to play more.
00:07:27No.
00:07:28No, that's not going to happen.
00:07:30Not with a baby coming.
00:07:32You sure you're ready for that?
00:07:36I don't really have a choice.
00:07:37You know, Lisa.
00:07:39I'm a face important to her.
00:07:41But I'm, uh, I'm happy about it.
00:07:44Good.
00:07:45It's a lifetime commitment.
00:07:54Feels good.
00:08:06Looks like we're having a boy.
00:08:08Am I right?
00:08:11What?
00:08:12Just your mom was right.
00:08:13Like, she's going to be impossible after this.
00:08:17I'm so happy.
00:08:20I think we should set it up right over here.
00:08:23How tall is it?
00:08:25Maybe 12 feet, fully inflated.
00:08:28Then this is good.
00:08:30Just make sure it's tied down, okay?
00:08:32Hey, Dave.
00:08:34Is this her knee a shotgun?
00:08:35Uh, no.
00:08:35First four-sum's at seven.
00:08:37You need to be open by eight.
00:08:38Not a problem.
00:08:39Oh, we're out of the big cups.
00:08:40Again.
00:08:43I'm, uh, I'm going to go check out the sprinklers that are plugged up on 14th.
00:09:04All fit.
00:09:05Thanks.
00:09:15So you're not from around here?
00:09:18No, I'm running.
00:09:20I took her for the job.
00:09:21I'm trying to earn over the lecture of school.
00:09:24Admirable.
00:09:25I have to declare my major next semester.
00:09:29Stressful.
00:09:31You're smart.
00:09:32I can tell.
00:09:33You'll figure it out.
00:09:37So I spoke with my mom.
00:09:39And she still really wants to have a shower for me with her book club ladies.
00:09:44So I was thinking I might go down next weekend for it.
00:09:47Is it grandma?
00:09:48Babe, I'm sorry.
00:09:49I can't.
00:09:50I've got another qualifying round.
00:09:51No, I know, Darren.
00:09:52I said me, not us.
00:09:57Okay.
00:09:58You know what else?
00:10:00When it comes down to a name, I think there's only one choice.
00:10:05Oh, yeah?
00:10:06Yeah.
00:10:08Darren Jr.
00:10:12Are you sure?
00:10:13Yeah.
00:10:13There it is.
00:10:39Go away.
00:10:41I'm horrible.
00:10:42At least you look good doing it.
00:10:44Let me just show you a couple things.
00:10:47All right.
00:10:47One, your tempo is a little bit off.
00:10:50Two, I want you to pick a spot two or three inches in front of the ball and aim for that.
00:11:02Wow.
00:11:03That's crazy.
00:11:05Now you try.
00:11:10Here.
00:11:10Here.
00:11:12Hold it.
00:11:14Don't jerk the club.
00:11:16And one slow motion.
00:11:24That's the best shot I've ever hit.
00:11:27Slow and smooth.
00:11:28That's the ticket.
00:11:28You're taking a lot to your folks.
00:11:48This bag is for the hospital, silly.
00:11:50Here, have a look at this.
00:11:52I'll call a cab and we'll just meet at the hospital, but the doctor said most first babies come in the middle of the night, so I bet you we'll be able to go together.
00:12:00Wow.
00:12:02You've really laid it all out here.
00:12:03Isn't this a bit early?
00:12:06You've got to be prepared, babe.
00:12:09I'm so bummed.
00:12:10I wish I could take you to the airport, but work.
00:12:13Oh, don't worry.
00:12:15I'll be back on Monday with Mom and Dad, and we can finally prepare this place for the baby.
00:12:20I'll tell your dad no speeding on the freeway.
00:12:22He's carrying precious cargo.
00:12:24Oh, that's right.
00:12:25Be safe.
00:12:31Love you.
00:12:31Bye.
00:12:32Bye.
00:12:32Bye.
00:12:55Hey, pretty.
00:12:59It's Darren.
00:13:00What are you up to?
00:13:03Oh, she's here.
00:13:12Oh.
00:13:14Hi.
00:13:14Hello.
00:13:16Hi.
00:13:18Hi.
00:13:19Get over here, honey.
00:13:21Look at you.
00:13:23Oh, you are glowing.
00:13:25You really are.
00:13:27You, you lucked into the mommy lottery.
00:13:29I hope you know that.
00:13:30Oh, I think I found some objections.
00:13:32No, not possible.
00:13:33Okay, you two.
00:13:34Let's get into the house.
00:13:36Oh, I hope you're ready to be fawned over for the next 24 hours.
00:13:39Your mother has not been this excited to throw a party since her wedding.
00:13:43Oh, I've heard stories.
00:13:44None of that is true.
00:13:47Hey, don't worry.
00:13:48I got the luggage.
00:13:49Can you just hold the door?
00:13:52I guess not.
00:13:53What was that thing we had for the appetizer?
00:13:57El Amari?
00:13:58Yeah.
00:14:00That was great.
00:14:02I had a wonderful day.
00:14:04Me too.
00:14:05My favorite part was finally playing golf with the amazing Darren West.
00:14:10Not that amazing yet, but if some of these endorsements go through, the next year on the tour could be something special.
00:14:17See, you are amazing.
00:14:21You really are.
00:14:25Oh, yeah?
00:14:25Do you, um, do you want to come over to my place?
00:14:41I don't know.
00:14:45I don't want to rush this.
00:14:48You know, you're right.
00:14:48I'll take you home.
00:14:58You've got so many wonderful presents.
00:15:01Aw.
00:15:02Smart baby.
00:15:03Right?
00:15:04Yes.
00:15:05So, how have you been feeling?
00:15:08What did the doctor say about your heart?
00:15:11Oh, well, I've had some rough moments, but nothing to worry about.
00:15:18Oh, right now I feel so, so good.
00:15:22Aw.
00:15:24Aw, look at those.
00:15:26Aren't they cute?
00:15:27That's so tiny.
00:15:28Mom said she found them in a little shop just a few minutes from here.
00:15:32They're beautiful.
00:15:34And then, there's this.
00:15:39It was Darren's.
00:15:41I brought it to show you.
00:15:42His mom insisted.
00:15:43I take it.
00:15:44Oh, dear.
00:15:45Mm-hmm.
00:15:46I didn't know what to say.
00:15:47I was literally speechless.
00:15:49I guess the baby will have to wear it when we go to visit them.
00:15:52I don't want to incur their wrath.
00:15:55Well, we all love Darren, but family?
00:16:00I was intimidated by my in-laws as well.
00:16:02I mean, I never felt that anything I did would be okay with them.
00:16:08I can live with that, knowing that I get to be with Darren for the rest of my life.
00:16:11I feel like I can see the next 20 years right in front of me.
00:16:14I just can't wait for it all to start.
00:16:19So, I wanted to give you my present when we were alone.
00:16:25So, this little guy was actually your dad's.
00:16:32He was quite loved.
00:16:34I had to do a little bit of a repair so that he's ready for your little guy.
00:16:39Well, I'm so speechless, but this time for a good reason.
00:16:42Oh, you know, the most beautiful thing about having a baby is that they take the best parts
00:16:52of you, your passions and your values, and then they turn it into something better than
00:16:57you could possibly imagine.
00:16:58And then they give it back to you in the most amazing way.
00:17:06Are you ready for this?
00:17:07The crying, the pooping, the boo-boos.
00:17:10I mean, you are going to be, oh, you're going to be exhausted and frustrated and at your wit's end.
00:17:16But then they're going to grow up, and you are going to miss it so, so much.
00:17:26Even the pooping.
00:17:28Well, maybe not that.
00:17:37Hey, you've reached Darren.
00:17:38And Lisa.
00:17:39You know what to do.
00:17:40No luck.
00:17:41He's probably still out on the course.
00:17:46Sometimes they turn the floodlights on and play at night.
00:17:49Let him have his fun.
00:17:51Soon the baby will be here, and there won't be time for that sort of thing.
00:17:54Oh, I know.
00:17:55How many onesies and sweaters does one child need?
00:18:13It's your mom.
00:18:14It's her first grandkid.
00:18:15Ugh.
00:18:25Hey.
00:18:32What?
00:18:36You never make the bud.
00:18:39If you don't like it, I can always mess it up.
00:18:41No, no, no, no.
00:18:43If you're going to mess it up, we might as well do it together.
00:18:46That's what I like to hear.
00:18:49Hey, Darren, Lisa tried to call yesterday.
00:18:51Did you sneak in a golf game?
00:18:54Guilty.
00:18:54That's your dedication.
00:18:56That's why you'll make the tour.
00:18:58I'm making cocktails.
00:19:00Darren, you want?
00:19:01Sure.
00:19:02Coming right up.
00:19:03We need to talk.
00:19:04Yeah, make one thing.
00:19:05I'm not playing.
00:19:06Sure.
00:19:11I think you might have to give up your man cave for the baby room.
00:19:15I knew this day was coming.
00:19:20It's fine.
00:19:21You sure you're okay with that?
00:19:22Of course.
00:19:22I'm going to get the rest of the bags.
00:19:27I'm going to get the rest of the bags.
00:19:27I trust you to find the perfect place for us to be together.
00:19:53That's what I want.
00:19:59Places.
00:20:00Memories we can call our own.
00:20:01I promise me it'll always be like that.
00:20:15I promise.
00:20:16I promise.
00:20:22I'm not sure it's a good idea that I should be moving there and stuff when he's not here.
00:20:25He was supposed to be here by now.
00:20:27He's always getting home so late.
00:20:29Maybe just start with putting those trophies in that box.
00:20:33I'm here.
00:20:34I'm here.
00:20:35Sorry I got caught off finishing the tourney.
00:20:38Let's get going.
00:20:38I'm here.
00:20:39I'm here.
00:20:40I'm here.
00:20:41I'm here.
00:20:41I'm here.
00:20:42I'm here.
00:20:42I'm here.
00:20:43I'm here.
00:20:43I'm here.
00:20:43I'm here.
00:20:44I'm here.
00:20:44I'm here.
00:20:44I'm here.
00:20:45I'm here.
00:20:45I'm here.
00:20:45I'm here.
00:20:45I'm here.
00:20:45I'm here.
00:20:46I'm here.
00:20:46I'm here.
00:20:47I'm here.
00:20:47I'm here.
00:20:47I'm here.
00:20:48I'm here.
00:20:48I'm here.
00:20:49I'm here.
00:20:49I'm here.
00:20:50I'm here.
00:20:50I'm here.
00:20:51I'm here.
00:20:52I'm here.
00:20:53I'm here.
00:20:54I'm here.
00:20:55I'm here.
00:20:56I'm here.
00:20:57I'm here.
00:20:58I'm here.
00:21:08Can I help?
00:21:09No, I'm fine. Just...
00:21:22I'm sorry I had to take away your man cave, babe.
00:21:26Maybe we can spend more time together to make up for it.
00:21:30You know I'd love to, babe, but I need to put in as many hours at the club as I can so I can take time off when the little guy arrives.
00:21:38I just...
00:21:47I hope we never become like one of those old couples with tons of baggage and regrets and resentments.
00:21:57I just hope we always stay like this, you know?
00:22:01We'll always be this way.
00:22:05Come on. Sleep back.
00:22:08Go, go, go.
00:22:12Please, let me try.
00:22:15Come, please, my sister.
00:22:17I don't know.
00:22:47So when were you going to tell me you were married, Darren?
00:22:52There hasn't been anything between us for years, okay?
00:22:54We've been talking about divorce since a month after our ceremony.
00:22:58Look, now I am looking for something real, something that's going to last.
00:23:02I heard she's pregnant.
00:23:03She deliberately got pregnant, thinking that it would somehow keep us together.
00:23:08Hey, look, she's only in the early stage, and I don't even know if she's going to keep it.
00:23:12But wouldn't you want to be involved in the baby's life if she does?
00:23:15What I want is to have a baby with someone I'm in love with.
00:23:21You think I'm stupid?
00:23:23No, no, no, no.
00:23:23I am the stupid one, okay?
00:23:25For making this mistake, hanging on for way too long.
00:23:28Listen, I just think that you're something special.
00:23:35I've got customers.
00:23:37Darren's okay with this new arrangement?
00:23:43I wouldn't say that, but we see as it's necessary.
00:23:46We have to put the little mister somewhere.
00:23:50That's weird.
00:23:52Our phone bill has all these calls up to Redding.
00:23:54Redding?
00:23:55What's in Redding?
00:23:56I think that's where Darren's going for the tournament, but...
00:23:59I don't know why there'd be so many.
00:24:02Must be having an affair.
00:24:04Darren?
00:24:07I mean, I worry about a lot of stuff, but that's not on the list.
00:24:13Although we do feel disconnected.
00:24:16He works all the time now.
00:24:17We barely talk.
00:24:19We used to talk.
00:24:20And look at me.
00:24:21I'm turning into Jabba the Hutt.
00:24:22Honey, I understand.
00:24:26I remember when I was pregnant, I felt the exact same way.
00:24:30You did?
00:24:31Yeah, I did.
00:24:32And then you came along and you made us better, your father and I.
00:24:37And soon the baby will be here and all will be well.
00:24:40What?
00:24:40Where are you going?
00:24:42We're going to see my husband.
00:24:48Hello, sir.
00:24:49Welcome.
00:24:49Darren's doing well for himself.
00:24:51Yes.
00:24:51Yes.
00:24:52Yes, he is.
00:24:57Honey?
00:25:01Hey, babe.
00:25:03Hey there.
00:25:05What are you all doing here?
00:25:07We just thought we'd surprise you.
00:25:09Surprise!
00:25:14Hey, can I get you guys anything?
00:25:15The girl who only runs this place is on her break.
00:25:19We're all fine, I think.
00:25:20We just came for a quick visit.
00:25:22But, yeah.
00:25:24Hi!
00:25:25Elise!
00:25:25It's so great to see you.
00:25:27But I think you're confused.
00:25:29We don't have a delivery room here at the Coors.
00:25:30Oh!
00:25:31I just wanted to see my husband.
00:25:33He's been working so hard with all the trips up to Reading and back for the tournaments.
00:25:36He's been putting in the Coors.
00:25:37He's been putting in the Coors.
00:25:38He's been putting in the Coors.
00:25:39He's been putting in the Coors.
00:25:40For sure.
00:25:41Dave's been the best boss.
00:25:43He really gets it.
00:25:44Oh, well.
00:25:45I have two of my own.
00:25:46I remember what it feels like.
00:25:47Still have the PTSD.
00:25:49Yeah.
00:25:50But come on.
00:25:51Please, sit.
00:25:52Yeah.
00:25:53Sit.
00:25:54Yeah.
00:25:55I didn't know you had clients today.
00:25:56Yeah.
00:25:57They just dropped by.
00:25:58Missed you.
00:25:59Aw.
00:26:00Missed you, too.
00:26:01We'll be right back up a couple of days before the baby's born.
00:26:06We'll call you when we get you.
00:26:07We gotta go.
00:26:08If we wanna miss the traffic, we gotta go.
00:26:09Okay.
00:26:10Bye.
00:26:11What is it?
00:26:12I just wish you didn't have to go home.
00:26:16I wish we didn't have to go there.
00:26:23All right.
00:26:29What is it?
00:26:31I just wish you didn't have to go.
00:26:34I wish we didn't have to go there.
00:26:41It's fine. I'm just... I'm scared. It's silly.
00:26:45Having a baby is scary.
00:26:48There's no other word for it.
00:26:51Remember what your grandmother says.
00:26:53If it isn't a test from God,
00:26:55you can be sure it's a temptation from the other one.
00:26:58Yes, I'm leaving.
00:26:59I love you.
00:27:00I love you.
00:27:06There.
00:27:09I'll be back before you know it.
00:27:11Me too.
00:27:16Bye.
00:27:21Thank you so much for dinner.
00:27:30Of course. Thank you so much for coming down. Would you like some more?
00:27:33Oh, no, no.
00:27:34Okay.
00:27:35So, you're putting in the living room now. How's that work?
00:27:46Pretty much the same way it worked before. I put, either it goes in or it doesn't.
00:27:52We had to relocate him for the baby room.
00:27:55Uh, Raymond, would you like some more wine?
00:27:58No.
00:28:01Surely the baby will be sleeping in your room for the first few months.
00:28:07Any updates on the tour?
00:28:09I was in Reading, but I finished out of the rankings.
00:28:13That leaves what? Three more before end of season?
00:28:19Yes.
00:28:21He's been spending so much time getting ready for the baby, but now that that's done, he can really focus.
00:28:26Most players, if they don't make the tour on their first or second attempt, they never make it at all.
00:28:34So, the reason we wanted you both to come down here is we decided on a name.
00:28:46It was an exhaustive search. We went far and wide, right babe?
00:28:50Mm-hmm.
00:28:52Well, don't keep us in suspense.
00:28:55We're naming the baby...
00:28:59Darren. Darren Jr.
00:29:01Perfect. Oh, perfect choice.
00:29:05Only Raymond would have been better.
00:29:08Apple pie? Coffee? Vanilla ice cream?
00:29:10Oh, no, no. Let me.
00:29:13We want little Darren Jr. to stay sleeping down there.
00:29:20He's getting big.
00:29:22Hello, you two. I wanted to have a word because there's a bit of news.
00:29:27Is everything okay with the baby?
00:29:28Oh, yes. Don't worry. We're in great shape. But we did miscalculate the due date.
00:29:34You miscalculated?
00:29:36Yes. We've revised the due date to the 21st. Two weeks earlier than we thought.
00:29:41Oh.
00:29:43The baby is coming prematurely.
00:29:45No, no. We just got the date wrong. Happens occasionally.
00:29:49But there's nothing wrong with it. With the baby.
00:29:51No, everything is fine. We're in great shape. But get ready. You've got about two weeks.
00:29:59I thought we'd have more time.
00:30:05Babe, don't worry. We'll get the room done.
00:30:08Sure. No problem.
00:30:12Hey, love. Everything okay?
00:30:13Yes, all good. Just working on the crib. Gotta get hustling now.
00:30:18Man, it's late. You don't have to finish that tonight.

00:42:11Baby, baby.
00:42:13Shhh.

00:42:17It's gonna be okay.

00:42:25I love you so much.
00:42:27Is the baby okay?
00:42:29Nothing's wrong.
00:42:31You're able to stop the baby.
00:42:33The doctor's told me the knife missed your carotid artery by one-eighth of an inch.
00:42:39Why?
00:42:43Why did this happen?
00:42:45I don't know, sweetie.
00:42:47I don't.
00:42:49We're gonna get through this together, okay?
00:42:51I just... I don't understand who would do this to me.
00:42:55You just surprised him.
00:42:57That's all. There's nothing more to talk about.
00:42:59Okay? Unless you can identify him.
00:43:07He's wearing a mask.
00:43:09A gorilla mask.
00:43:11Yes.
00:43:13What's up?
00:43:15I...
00:43:17I...
00:43:19My mom and dad here?
00:43:21No, no. I haven't called them.
00:43:23Call them. Please. I need them here.
00:43:25I will. I will. I will. Right now.
00:43:27Just, um...
00:43:29There's just one thing.
00:43:31What?
00:43:33The police want to talk to you.
00:43:35They need a statement or something.
00:43:39There's a detective waiting.
00:43:47Do...
00:43:48Do I have to?
00:43:49I can barely talk.
00:43:51It's okay.
00:43:53I'm right here, okay?
00:43:57It's okay.
00:43:58It's okay.
00:44:01Just rest.
00:44:03Rest.
00:44:05I love you.
00:44:09I love you.
00:44:11So much.
00:44:13I'm Detective Goodwin, Mrs. West.
00:44:15I know you're weak.
00:44:38I'm Detective Goodwin, Mrs. West.
00:44:42I know you're weak, but I'd like to ask you a few questions.
00:44:48Mr. West, do you mind stepping out for a moment?
00:44:52Do I mind?
00:44:53I'd like to stay with my wife. She was attacked. She's injured.
00:44:56She's been fine. If there's any issue, the medical staff will be summoned right away.
00:45:00Okay. I'll be right outside, sweetie.
00:45:12Mrs. West, tell me about the medical doctor.
00:45:20Give us a description.
00:45:23You wore a mask. A dark shirt, I think.
00:45:30I don't know. It was all self-classic. That's all I can remember.
00:45:34Mrs. West, do you know where your husband was at the time of the attack?
00:45:37He was at work at the golf club.
00:45:41How are things in the marriage? Any fighting arguments?
00:45:45No. I never fight.
00:45:48Is he excited about the baby?
00:45:50He can't wait. He spent all this time making the baby's room perfect.
00:45:55Is there anything, uh, about your attacker that's identifiable and maybe reminded you of someone?
00:46:06No.
00:46:07Why are you asking me this?
00:46:11Are you suggesting my husband had something to do with this?
00:46:15It's pretty standard to eliminate the people closest to the victim of suspects before we move on with other possibilities.
00:46:24Okay.
00:46:25I'm just going to go back to the attack for a moment.
00:46:28Was there anything at all unique about what the attacker wore?
00:46:33Maybe, uh, I don't know, a logo, a brand, a label?
00:46:36The mask.
00:46:38What about it?
00:46:38It's stupid to say it, but it was a gorilla mask.
00:46:42A gorilla mask?
00:46:44Yes.
00:46:45You saw it clearly.
00:46:46It was inches from my face.
00:46:50I'm tired.
00:46:52I need to rest.
00:46:53Please, can we be done?
00:46:58If you think of anything else, tell the nurses to get in touch with me, all right?
00:47:03Okay.
00:47:08We're told 22-year-old Lisa West endured a horrifying assault and is now recovering in hospital in the intensive care unit.
00:47:32The police described the suspect as being of average height and bills.
00:47:36Anyone with information is asked to contact MindStoppers as soon as possible.
00:47:42Hello, Snack Shack.
00:47:44Hey.
00:47:45Babe, what's going on?
00:47:47Everyone's seen the news.
00:47:49That's your place, right?
00:47:51Lisa was attacked right in our apartment.
00:47:53She was stabbed, but I guess she's doing okay.
00:47:58Why are you calling me?
00:48:00You have to concentrate on taking care of her.
00:48:03But I want to see you.
00:48:07I don't think this is a good time.
00:48:11But I love you.
00:48:12I need to see you.
00:48:14I have to go.
00:48:23Mr. West.
00:48:25I'd like to ask you a few questions.
00:48:28Sure.
00:48:28Yeah.
00:48:29Go ahead.
00:48:31Where were you at the time of your wife's assault?
00:48:34I was at the golf club.
00:48:37I spoke to your boss, Mr. Dave Henderson.
00:48:39He says it was about 45 minutes when you were out of the office.
00:48:43He knows because he says he went looking for you to discuss some business about an upcoming tournament.
00:48:48Yeah.
00:48:49I was out on the course.
00:48:51He looked for you there as well.
00:48:53It's 18 holes.
00:48:54I guess he didn't look hard enough.
00:48:55Isn't it correct?
00:49:00It's about 15 minutes from the golf course to your apartment.
00:49:03You could easily have gone there, back in that 45-minute window.
00:49:08Listen, I...
00:49:09I'm cooperating.
00:49:10I want to answer all your questions, but do we have to do this here?
00:49:13I'd rather do this.
00:49:20Mr. West, will you excuse me for a moment?
00:49:23Just wait right there, please.
00:49:24Okay.
00:49:26The detective, I'm right back.
00:49:29Really?
00:49:29Mr. West, the officers are taking you into custody
00:49:48based on evidence gathered in your place of employment
00:49:51and in your home.
00:49:52You went to my work?
00:49:53You're joking!
00:49:54You're kidding me!
00:49:56You can't do this!
00:49:58Let me go!
00:49:59I didn't do anything!
00:50:01Darren?
00:50:02You have no evidence!
00:50:11When are they bringing back the baby?
00:50:17Is he okay?
00:50:18Darren Jr. is perfectly fine.
00:50:20It's all routine.
00:50:22They're going to bring him back in a while, okay?
00:50:24We need to figure out how to get in touch with Darren.
00:50:27Darren, he's all alone.
00:50:29He's got no one.
00:50:30Let's just worry about you right now, okay?
00:50:35The doctor said you're going to be okay.
00:50:38Here you are.
00:50:39Harry!
00:50:40Little man!
00:50:41Oh, hi!
00:50:43Oh, hi!
00:50:43Hi!
00:50:43Oh!
00:50:44Oh!
00:50:45Oh!
00:50:46Oh!
00:50:47Oh!
00:50:48He's hurt.
00:50:49Oh, hi!
00:50:50Hi!
00:50:51Hi!
00:50:52Hi!
00:50:53Hi!
00:50:54Oh!
00:50:55No, no, no!
00:50:55I can't!
00:50:56No, no!
00:50:56It hurts!
00:50:57I can't!
00:50:57Oh, it's all right!
00:50:58It's all right!
00:50:59It's all right, honey!
00:51:00Take some time!
00:51:01It's going to take some time!
00:51:02You're kidding!
00:51:03I can't help my own baby!
00:51:05I'll take him back together.
00:51:06Just give it time.
00:51:07First steps.
00:51:08I don't feel like a mom if I can't help my own baby!
00:51:14You are a mother, and you're going to be holding him soon enough, okay?
00:51:19I need to call Darren's parents.
00:51:30What?
00:51:31I don't know if that's the best idea, honey.
00:51:35There may be some legal issues.
00:51:36Darren, he's my husband, and he's been wrongfully charged.
00:51:39I need to help Darren.
00:51:40Please just give me the phone.
00:51:42Okay, okay.
00:51:47Yes, Raymond was able to find a criminal defense attorney through some contacts he
00:51:52has in the construction industry.
00:51:54That's good.
00:51:55That's good.
00:51:56But, Lisa?
00:51:57Yes?
00:51:58Darren's going to need you.
00:52:00He's going to need your strength and your support throughout all this.
00:52:04I'll do everything I can.
00:52:06I love him.
00:52:07I know that.
00:52:08He knows that, too.
00:52:09If you think of anything...
00:52:11You could speak to the police and find out why they brought him in on no evidence.
00:52:16The whole thing is insane.
00:52:17They barely spoke to me for ten minutes.
00:52:19We can't let Darren get caught up in this.
00:52:22We have to protect him.
00:52:24Yes.
00:52:27Would you like to come see the baby, Darren Jr.?
00:52:30The baby?
00:52:31Oh!
00:52:32Of course.
00:52:33We can't wait.
00:52:34Uh...
00:52:35We just have to get things organized here, and then we'll let you know.
00:52:38Okay?
00:52:39Bye.
00:52:40Bye.
00:52:45I want to get out of here.
00:53:03You don't have to do this. I can...
00:53:05You don't know where anything is. It's faster if I do it.
00:53:08M robbed!
00:53:27Lisa.
00:53:28Are you alright?
00:53:31I'm fine.
00:53:38I was told I could find you here.
00:53:48Yeah, the hospital released Lisa,
00:53:50but as long as she comes down to San Diego and stays with us.
00:53:54I heard the delivery went well and the baby's healthy.
00:53:58Congratulations.
00:53:58Why didn't you tell me you were going to arrest Darren?
00:54:02I was waiting for some information to be confirmed.
00:54:05Then it was.
00:54:06You don't understand.
00:54:07Darren didn't do this to me.
00:54:09He didn't do this.
00:54:14Let's sit.
00:54:16Found blood residue on his shirt, his shoes, and his car.
00:54:22We're still waiting for results, but we're confident it's yours.
00:54:26We also found a receipt for a costume shop.
00:54:30The kind where you buy a mask.
00:54:33It's not possible.
00:54:34The man who did this was waiting for you inside your apartment.
00:54:42There's no sign of forced entry, which means he had a key.
00:54:46Burglar would have gotten the hell out as soon as they got discovered.
00:54:49They have no motive to attack you or try and kill you.
00:54:52None.
00:54:52This wasn't a break and undergone wrong.
00:54:56This was an attack on you.
00:55:00Specifically on you.
00:55:02No, someone is framing Darren.
00:55:09Then there's the matter of the T-shirt.
00:55:11Yes, the A-shirt.
00:55:12We have testimony that Darren has an Oakland A's T-shirt.
00:55:17Which is exactly my point.
00:55:18If it was Darren, he'd hardly wear a shirt that I'd recognize.
00:55:22Lisa, the reason he wore that shirt is because he didn't think you'd be around to ID him.
00:55:29No.
00:55:35No.
00:55:36No.
00:55:37No.
00:55:39No.
00:55:40Are you sure about all this?
00:55:42Enough to make an arrest?
00:55:44We're still building a case, but we think we have a key witness now.
00:55:49No.
00:55:50No.
00:55:50No.
00:55:51No.
00:55:51I'm very sorry.
00:56:02Stupid.
00:56:05It's such a cliche.
00:56:08It's not a cliche if it's true.
00:56:20Lisa.
00:56:21You okay?
00:56:40How could I not know?
00:56:43I can't get it out of my head.
00:56:46You saw him last week.
00:56:48Wasn't he in love with me?
00:56:49Wasn't he happy about the baby?
00:56:50Why not just ask for a divorce if you want it to be free?
00:56:53I don't understand.
00:56:57But I know one thing.
00:56:59What's that?
00:57:03I have to see him before I leave.
00:57:04I don't know.
00:57:20What's that?
00:57:20I don't know.
00:57:50I don't know.
00:57:55I don't remember.
00:58:00How could you not remember?
00:58:02It's just a blank.
00:58:07I don't know.
00:58:09I don't remember.
00:58:12How could you not remember?
00:58:15It's just a blank.
00:58:18I remember, like, being there.
00:58:26I don't know what happened.
00:58:33I meant those vows when we said them.
00:58:39Sweetie.
00:58:41Yes, I failed you.
00:58:43If I could take back what I did, I was in a second.
00:58:47But all I can do is to prove it every day for the rest of my life.
00:58:55I don't know.
00:58:57People say there are tests.
00:59:01But you have to face them.
00:59:03It's a point of being married.
00:59:07And I was ready for that.
00:59:11But this...
00:59:13I thought that the tests would come from the outside.
00:59:17I never thought that it could come from what my husband did.
00:59:19From how my husband hurt me.
00:59:21I brought this because I thought you should have a photo of your son.
00:59:39I'll leave it with the guards.
00:59:49He's beautiful.
00:59:55When I get out of here, we can take counseling.
00:59:59We can fix this, I promise.
01:00:01We can be ashamed of it again.
01:00:05Yeah?
01:00:07I promise.
01:00:09I promise.
01:00:31It's okay.
01:00:43Oh, I'm sorry, honey.
01:00:45I'm sorry I was out in the garden.
01:00:47Oh, I didn't take his bottle very well earlier.
01:00:51Oh, it's okay.
01:00:53Can I try it again?
01:00:55Okay, okay.
01:00:59Okay, okay.
01:01:01Okay.
01:01:03It's okay, it's okay.
01:01:05I'm...
01:01:07Okay, I'm...
01:01:08Alright.
01:01:09Okay.
01:01:10It'll come.
01:01:11It'll come.
01:01:12It'll just take some time.
01:01:14Just give it time, okay?
01:01:16Okay.
01:01:17I got you.
01:01:19It's okay.
01:01:21Oh, what?
01:01:26Oh, honey.
01:01:27Honey.
01:01:28Let's never think that.
01:01:30I'm fine.
01:01:31I'm fine.
01:01:32I'm fine.
01:01:33I'm fine.
01:01:34I'm fine.
01:01:51Was this my fault?
01:01:52Oh, honey.
01:01:55Let's never think that.
01:01:57This...
01:01:59This was something that happened to you.
01:02:03Not something you did.
01:02:05Let alone something you deserved.
01:02:08I mean, we all knew Darren.
01:02:10We...
01:02:11We all loved him.
01:02:12No one could have expected this.
01:02:16If Darren did this, then he's sick and he needs help, right?
01:02:22Oh, he certainly is sick.
01:02:27And he's not gonna get the help he needs in prison.
01:02:33So I could...
01:02:34I could...
01:02:37I could testify for him.
01:02:40And we can get counseling together.
01:02:43And after a while, he returned to being the man he was.
01:02:45The man I married.
01:02:49Is that how I make it better?
01:02:53No, it isn't.
01:02:54No.
01:02:58No.
01:03:01No, Lisa.
01:03:03It's a miracle you were saved.
01:03:04But this...
01:03:06You weren't saved to help Darren.
01:03:08You were saved so that your...
01:03:10Your child could be a priority.
01:03:11So that your strengths...
01:03:13Can become your child's strengths.
01:03:18You have so much to give your son.
01:03:20But first you have to value yourself.
01:03:22So that he will do the same.
01:03:49Detective Goodwin told me that you planned to testify on Darren's behalf at the hearing.
01:03:53I think you should reconsider.
01:03:57I don't believe he snapped.
01:03:58This is something he planned.
01:04:02I am sorry to have to tell you this.
01:04:05But Darren was having an affair.
01:04:09I don't believe you.
01:04:11I am sorry to have to tell you this story.
01:04:17This is his handwriting.
01:04:24I am sorry to be told my friend.
01:04:28Is this his handwriting?
01:04:30Her name is Michelle Morris.
01:04:31She works part-time at the golf course.
01:04:34they exchanged.
01:04:39Reading.
01:04:41Does she live in Reading?
01:04:43Mm-hmm.
01:04:45She's cooperating with the investigation.
01:04:48She was unaware of Darren's plan to kill you.
01:04:51He told her you were getting a divorce.
01:04:53You'll see that in the letters.
01:05:00Hm.
01:05:04It says here they started in August.
01:05:07Yes.
01:05:11I was seven months pregnant.
01:05:14I'm sorry.
01:05:17And six weeks later he tried to kill me, that's what you're saying?
01:05:22Yes.
01:05:25The fact is, unless you choose to testify against Darren,
01:05:29the likelihood is he will be released on parole,
01:05:32and whether or not he goes into counseling will be entirely up to him.
01:05:36Are you prepared to take that chance?
01:05:41I don't know.
01:05:45This is a man who attacked you,
01:05:47who left you for dead.
01:05:50A man who conducted an affair
01:05:52while you were eight and a half months pregnant.
01:05:55I don't think you can trust him to do anything you want him to do.
01:06:03You will have the full support of this office.
01:06:06I will personally prosecute the case.
01:06:12Okay.
01:06:13Lisa,
01:06:16why do you think you were able to withstand such a brutal attack?
01:06:22I don't know.
01:06:23Luck, I guess.
01:06:25No.
01:06:28I think it's because Darren had no idea how strong you are.
01:06:31He thought it would be easy to kill you.
01:06:36To kill an eight and a half month pregnant woman.
01:06:41But you are a fighter.
01:06:44It's just you were fighting for the wrong thing.
01:06:50Sorry, I left instructions for us not to be disturbed.
01:06:54Yes, Abby.
01:06:57Sorry about it.
01:06:58You might have a call for Lisa.
01:07:00It's for you, Lisa.
01:07:24How?
01:07:25I don't understand.
01:07:26We...
01:07:27We didn't want to tell you.
01:07:29Her heart condition has been getting worse.
01:07:32You didn't want to tell me?
01:07:33It was just all too much.
01:07:34We just wanted to wait until you were fully recovered.
01:07:54I'm sorry.
01:07:55Oh, my God.
01:07:59I didn't know.
01:08:01But you're here now.
01:08:03Oh, that's all that matters.
01:08:10Oh, my God.
01:08:12It's okay.
01:08:17I don't know what to do.
01:08:19I'll let...
01:08:21...him go.
01:08:24Let him go.
01:08:37Let him go.
01:09:07Yes, I was returning from the doctor's. I was carrying groceries.
01:09:16I apologize for interrupting. You were at the doctor's because you were pregnant, correct?
01:09:20Yes, I was eight and a half months pregnant.
01:09:31Darren tackled me.
01:09:34Did he strike you?
01:09:38Multiple times.
01:09:43I had bruises.
01:09:46And in the course of the attack, what happened next?
01:09:50He brought the knife up to my throat.
01:09:55Cut me.
01:09:57I fell.
01:10:02He brought the knife up and cut me again.
01:10:06Then a third time.
01:10:10And you mean he cut your throat. Is that right?
01:10:13Yes, he cut my throat.
01:10:17How many times?
01:10:19Five or six times I lost count.
01:10:22Did the knife attacks result in substantial bleeding?
01:10:28There was blood all around me, yes.
01:10:40Now this is important, Lisa.
01:10:42How did you survive?
01:10:43How did you survive?
01:10:56I...
01:10:57I stopped moving.
01:11:02I held my breath.
01:11:05Because if he noticed you were still breathing...
01:11:08He would come back and, you know, make sure.
01:11:13Make sure of what?
01:11:15That I was dead.
01:11:24And the baby?
01:11:31Yes.
01:11:32Our baby, too.
01:11:34So this was not just one attempted murder.
01:11:38But two.
01:11:41Yes.
01:11:44It'll take a while until they're ready to start cross-examination.
01:11:47Just stay here and I will come and get you when you call.
01:12:01Why is it taking so long?
01:12:03I don't know.
01:12:08Wait.
01:12:09What's happening?
01:12:10Darren's pleaded guilty to premeditated attempted murder.
01:12:13The judge has set sentencing for June.
01:12:15Because he pleaded, at sentencing, it's probably going to be life with the possibility of parole.
01:12:20And what that means is...
01:12:21Wait.
01:12:22When do I go in?
01:12:23You don't.
01:12:24He pleaded out.
01:12:25It's over.
01:12:27But he gets parole?
01:12:29It's a possibility because it was attempted murder.
01:12:31And not actual murder.
01:12:32So what you're saying is he might get parole because he didn't kill me.
01:12:36Try not to look at it that way.
01:12:37I know that life in prison doesn't actually mean that, but I...
01:12:40I just didn't think it was going to happen like this.
01:12:42I know, Lisa, but this is a victory.
01:12:44That's what you should take away here.
01:12:47Why did he just give up like that?
01:12:49Because his lawyer saw how amazing you were.
01:12:51How compelling your testimony was on the stand.
01:12:54You made this happen.
01:12:56I just...
01:12:57I never got to hear him admit his guilt.
01:12:58I never got to hear him explain why he did what he did.
01:12:59I know.
01:13:00But he is guilty.
01:13:01You beat him.
01:13:02Again.
01:13:03I got it, Lisa.
01:13:04I got it.
01:13:05I got it.
01:13:06It's okay.
01:13:07I'll go.
01:13:08You're okay.
01:13:09I got it.
01:13:10I got it.
01:13:11It's okay.
01:13:12I'll go.
01:13:13What's this happen?
01:13:14What's this happen?
01:13:15What's your fault?
01:13:16What's this happen?
01:13:17What's this happen?
01:13:18What's this happen?
01:13:19What the!!!
01:13:20There's no way I'm going to fear the fact that I'm going to do it.
01:13:23I've lost one thing.
01:13:24What's this happen?
01:13:25I don't have to do it.
01:13:26I don't have to fear the fact that I'm going to do it.
01:13:29But he is guilty.
01:13:31You beat him.
01:13:32Again.
01:13:33This is over.
01:14:03I don't know.
01:14:33I don't know.
01:15:03I don't know.
01:15:33I don't know.
01:16:03I don't know.
01:16:33I don't know.
01:16:34I don't know.
01:16:35I don't know.
01:16:37I don't know.
01:16:38I don't know.
01:16:39I don't know.
01:16:40I don't know.
01:16:41I don't know.
01:16:42I don't know.
01:16:43I don't know.
01:16:44I don't know.
01:16:45I don't know.
01:16:46I don't know.
01:16:47I don't know.
01:16:48I don't know.
01:16:49I don't know.
01:16:50I don't know.
01:16:51I don't know.
01:16:52I don't know.
01:16:53I don't know.
01:16:54I don't know.
01:16:55I don't know.
01:16:56I don't know.
01:16:57I don't know.
01:16:58I don't know.
01:16:59I don't know.
01:17:00I don't know.
01:17:01I don't know.
01:17:02I don't know.
01:17:03I don't know.
01:17:04I don't know.
01:17:05I don't know.
01:17:06I promise to be the best mom that I can be.
01:17:11Hey.
01:17:12Hey.
01:17:13Hey.
01:17:14Hi, mom.
01:17:15Morning.
01:17:16Hey.
01:17:17Hey.
01:17:18Hey.
01:17:39Hi, Mom.
01:17:40Morning.
01:17:41Hi.
01:17:42Morning.
01:17:43Are you supposed to do the after-school pick-up today?
01:17:45I have a meeting that starts right at 5.
01:17:47Sure.
01:17:48Oh, I almost forgot.
01:17:50Uh, there's mail for you on the table.
01:18:10Are you alright?
01:18:12Hmm.
01:18:13Yeah, I'm fine.
01:18:14I just...
01:18:15What is it?
01:18:17I'm surprised at how upset this makes me.
01:18:25I'm sorry you had to come all this way.
01:18:27I'm in town for a conference.
01:18:29There's no way I'd pass up the chance to come and see how you were doing.
01:18:32I mean, I make it through the days and then something will happen.
01:18:36I'll take a look at Connor and catch a glimpse of Darren.
01:18:39I'll see a faint trace of my scars when I'm doing my makeup in the morning.
01:18:43Or I'll receive my divorce papers in the mail and then I'm brought right back there.
01:18:47So I'm not free of it yet.
01:18:50I can't say I'm fully recovered, if I'm being honest.
01:18:53You changed your son's name.
01:19:00And he deserved a chance at his own life.
01:19:02A life away from everything that happened with his parents.
01:19:05I also came by because Darren's first parole hearing is in about three months.
01:19:14I wanted to find out how you were feeling about making a victim impact statement.
01:19:18Is it going to make any difference?
01:19:20It's just so frustrating.
01:19:22If I hadn't reached the phone and dialed 911, Darren would have been executed.
01:19:28But now, after every few years, he gets a parole hearing.
01:19:31It's like they want him out.
01:19:33Well, they do.
01:19:34Prisons are overcrowded.
01:19:36He's been a model prisoner for three years.
01:19:39Your presence is their conscience.
01:19:44That's why they're hoping you won't show.
01:19:51Lisa, why did you find the trial so unsatisfactory?
01:19:57I mean, Darren was convicted after all.
01:20:00Sure, but it all happened behind closed doors.
01:20:02But you testified.
01:20:03That's not enough.
01:20:05It's not enough.
01:20:08I wanted to see the judge take my words into account.
01:20:11I wanted to see Darren's sentence reflect them to feel some validation.
01:20:15Not for him to just slip away one more time.
01:20:17So this is your chance.
01:20:19Otherwise, you'll see him walk.
01:20:21This is your opportunity to see how your words can extend his sentence.
01:20:27I'm pretty sure his lawyers will find a way to make sure that never happens.
01:20:30You can change that.
01:20:32You can.
01:20:41This is an initial parole consideration hearing for Darren West, CDC number J23239.
01:20:50On June 13th of 1994, the prisoner was received in the CDC pursuant to Penal Code section 1168.
01:20:57For violation of Penal Code section attempted murder on 187, first degree, Alameda County case number 114846.
01:21:07That was count one.
01:21:08There were two additional counts that were stayed.
01:21:11One was 12022.7.
01:21:14That was great bodily injury with the same case number.
01:21:17And also the use of a deadly weapon, 12022B.
01:21:22Again, the same case number.
01:21:24Mr. West, how do you feel about the act you committed?
01:21:30I don't feel good about it at all.
01:21:34Can you explain why?
01:21:37It was a selfish and inconsiderate thing to do.
01:21:41Do you now have insight into what happened and the tools necessary so that you don't act that way again?
01:21:48I do.
01:21:50I get counseling from my pastor who comes up to see me once a week.
01:21:54Let's take a look at your psychological evaluation.
01:21:58In Midwest takes full responsibility for stabbing his wife repeatedly.
01:22:05He showed good insight, noting his inability to communicate his feelings and self-centeredness.
01:22:12This inmate did seem genuinely penitent for his crime.
01:22:18Do you have any comments about this report?
01:22:22No, sir.
01:22:24Thank you, Mr. West.
01:22:28Ms. Backers, for the state.
01:22:31Thank you, Commissioner.
01:22:33The victim in this case, Lisa Aguilar, has traveled a great distance and at considerable cost to address this hearing.
01:22:39We'll hear from her, of course.
01:22:42Ms. Aguilar?
01:22:44I think that, with all this talk about counseling and repentance, it's easy to forget the reality of what happened.
01:23:01So, I brought pictures.
01:23:03And this is me today.
01:23:24This is what Darren did to me.
01:23:27A permanent reminder.
01:23:30I will never get paroled from this.
01:23:35Coming here today, I had to relive it all over again.
01:23:41Darren might not have succeeded in taking my life, but that doesn't mean he didn't change it forever.
01:23:51You see, when the police came to me after the attack, they had to convince me of his guilt long before he ever faced a judge and jury.
01:24:02And for the longest time, I didn't believe them.
01:24:05How could this man, who I thought cherished me, how could he hurt me, let alone want to kill me?
01:24:12After all, the last time I saw him, he was a loving husband.
01:24:16What the police were telling me seemed inconceivable.
01:24:21But I came to see it was true.
01:24:25This parole application, it's his attempt to make me, again, a victim.
01:24:32But not only me.
01:24:42He's making a victim of his son, as well, who is surely as innocent as can be.
01:24:51If Darren is released, we'll be looking over our shoulders every day of our lives.
01:24:56Is Darren going to finish what he started?
01:25:00Is he going to shadow his son's life for years to come?
01:25:04By commuting his sentence, you are sentencing us to live with that fear and uncertainty.
01:25:10Darren's crime is not over. We live it every day.
01:25:15I plead with you. Keep him behind bars. Thank you for your time.
01:25:32Application denied. Unanimous decision. It'll be another two years before he can reapply.
01:25:38Thank you so much.
01:25:47We'll lose one day, won't we?
01:25:49Probably. But I will do this as long as you will.
01:25:53Maybe next time we should get cocktails after.
01:25:56Deal.
01:26:08Yeah.
01:26:11So
