00:00A quiet afternoon near the White House erupted into chaos on November 26, 2025, when two West
00:26Virginia National Guard members were critically shot during a targeted attack.
00:32Just blocks away from the nation's most iconic landmark, the attack has set off a chain of
00:38events that is quickly reshaping the security landscape of Washington, D.C.
00:44Around 2.15 p.m., as the sun hung low over the nation's capital, two soldiers on patrol
00:51near the Farragut West Metro Station were ambushed in broad daylight.
00:55The suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Afghan National Rahmanullah Lakhonwal, pulled
01:03out a firearm and opened fire on the unsuspecting guards.
01:07The assault was swift.
01:09Lakhonwal shot one of the guards in the chest, then turned his weapon on the second soldier.
01:15But the soldiers were not defenseless.
01:17In a split second, one of the guards managed to return fire, wounding Lakhonwal, who was
01:23quickly taken into custody.
01:25The immediate aftermath was chaotic.
01:29Emergency sirens wailed through the streets, and federal agents swooped in as soon as the
01:33dust settled.
01:35While Lakhonwal was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, the two victims, both
01:39armed and on patrol at the time, were also rushed to a local hospital.
01:45Initial reports suggested they had died.
01:47But later, authorities retracted the statement, confirming they were still alive, though in
01:53critical condition.
01:55As the news spread, President Donald Trump didn't waste time.
01:59From his Florida resort, he quickly called for action.
02:03Trump ordered the immediate deployment of 500 additional National Guard troops to Washington,
02:09D.C.
02:10Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth echoed the words of the president.
02:14That will only stiffen our resolve.
02:17We will never back down.
02:19We will secure our capital.
02:20We will secure our cities.
02:21In fact, this happened just steps away from the White House.
02:25It will not stand.
02:26And that's why President Trump has asked me, and I will ask the Secretary of the Army to
02:32the National Guard to add 500 additional troops, National Guardsmen, to Washington, D.C.
02:39This will only stiffen our resolve to ensure that we make Washington, D.C. safe and beautiful.
02:45Criminality knows no boundaries, whether it's the United States of America and Washington,
02:50D.C., or it's the Caribbean and the Western Hemisphere.
02:54We are going to go after narco-terrorists.
02:57It will not stand.
02:58Our borders will be secure, whether it's the Dominican Republic or the United States of
03:01America, and we look forward to working with our partners to make it happen.
03:06These new troops are in addition to the 2,000 Guardsmen already in the city, part of a larger
03:11effort to bolster security following rising concerns over crime and national safety.
03:18But the military presence in Washington has stirred up controversy.
03:22Since August 2025, Trump had already deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to patrol key areas
03:29around the city.
03:31The troops, coming from various states like West Virginia, Alabama, and Georgia, have become
03:37a visible part of Washington's landscape.
03:40A federal judge recently ruled that Trump's deployment of National Guard troops to Washington
03:45might have violated the law, calling the use of troops from Republican-led states a likely
03:51illegal action.
03:53For President Trump, the attack on the National Guard was more than just a crime.
03:58It was an act of terror.
04:00The hearts of all Americans tonight are with those two members of the West Virginia National
04:05Guard and their families.
04:07The love of our entire country is pouring out for them, and we are lifting them up in our prayers.
04:15Because we are filled with anguish and grief for those who were shot, we're also filled
04:21with righteous anger and ferocious resolve.
04:25As President of the United States, I am determined to ensure that the animal who perpetrated this
04:32atrocity pays the steepest possible price.
04:35The president wasted no time in linking the suspect, Rahmanullah Lock and Wall, to the broader immigration
04:42policies of the Biden administration.
04:45Lock and Wall had entered the U.S. as part of the Operation Allies Welcome program.
04:50Trump seized on the incident as proof of what he had long argued, that unvetted immigration
04:56policies pose a direct threat to American security.
04:59I can report tonight that, based on the best available information, the Department of Homeland
05:06Security is confident that the suspect in custody is a foreigner who entered our country from
05:12Afghanistan, a hellhole on Earth.
05:15He was flown in by the Biden administration in September 2021 on those infamous flights that
05:22everybody was talking about.
05:25Nobody knew who was coming in.
05:26Nobody knew anything about it.
05:28His status was extended under legislation signed by President Biden, a disastrous president,
05:36the worst in the history of our country.
05:38The tragedy has ignited a firestorm of political debate.
05:42Trump has called for a nationwide reevaluation of the Afghan refugee program, including revisiting
05:48the status of the more than 200,000 Afghan nationals who were granted asylum in the U.S.
05:55At the same time, the deployment of additional troops raises concerns over the expanding role
06:01of the military and civilian life.
06:04With the National Guard already in place, many are asking, how far will the U.S. government
06:09go to secure the nation's capital?
06:12Will this become the new normal?
06:14Is something big about to happen?
