Ougenweide was one the most significant German folk-rock bands of the seventies. Ougenweide is a German folk-rock band and a pioneer of medieval rock in Germany.
Their name derives from the Middle High German word "ougenweide," meaning "eye candy" or "a sight that brings joy."
A predecessor band, formed in late 1969, consisted of Frank Wulff, Michael Steinbeck, Jürgen Isenbart, and Brigitte Blunck. Ougenweide was officially founded in Hamburg in the spring of 1970. From the outset, the band aimed to (re)set medieval songs and poems to music, though their focus was never strictly limited to the Middle Ages.
