00:00Bunny! Box! This is a make or break assignment. Fail and I will split you up.
00:05Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at easter eggs, small details, and in-jokes in Zootopia 2.
00:12Since some of these directly tie into the film's mystery, this is your spoiler alert.
00:17Sorry, could you show me that clip again? Wasn't wearing my glasses.
00:22Animal Wordplay
00:23You can't touch me, carrots. I've been doing this since I was born.
00:26You're gonna want to refrain from calling me carrots.
00:29My bad, I just naturally assumed you came from some little carrot-choked podunk, no?
00:33Like its predecessor, some of the sequel's puns are on the nose, but others are cleverly hidden.
00:39Undercover during the opening, Nick sports a shirt that says,
00:42Foxy Dad, while Judy wears one that reads, Don't Worry, Be Hoppy.
00:47Back off, Rickies! We got him! Rolling Spikes!
00:50What are you, Judy!
00:53Sorry, could you show me that clip again? Wasn't wearing my glasses.
00:56During their subsequent high-speed chase, they pass a sign to New Jersey, which we assume is populated by Wildebeest.
01:04We guess you could say they were in a furry, which can also be spotted in the background.
01:09In another new reference, the Shrew family is making a killing selling knockoff Nucci bags.
01:14If whatever you are tangled up in has to do with snakes, it's dangerous.
01:19Arguably the film's most unbearably good gag can be found on Nibble's The Beaver's bumper sticker, which says,
01:25I love my whittle car.
01:27We're sure there are others, but you can zoogle the rest.
01:30All right, carrots, any idea where you want to start?
01:33Yeah! If you want to find you a ripped hole, I am your gal.
01:36Coca-Cola product placement?
01:38As we can see from Nick's trip to the vending machine, Zootopia has a wide selection of soft drinks,
01:44such as Cub Soda, Carrot Soda, and Koala Cola.
01:47And if we complain to Chief Beef, he'll just make us stay longer.
01:50Play it smart, stay off the radar, and don't let it get to you, okay?
01:54Does Coca-Cola exist in this universe, though?
01:57At the very least, we think the brand's mascot does.
02:00During the film's chilling climax, our heroes cross paths with a polar bear.
02:04Not just any polar bear.
02:06He's helping himself with a beverage that looks suspiciously like a classic Coke bottle.
02:11We check the perimeter, snoop a little, we find nothing, we bail.
02:14Could this be one of the polar bears that regularly pop up in Coca-Cola's ads around the holiday season?
02:19It's hard to say since there's no label on the bottle.
02:22In any case, CGI fur has come a long way since 1993.
02:26What did you do that made Mr. Big so mad at you?
02:28I, um, I may have sold him a very expensive wool rug that was made from the fur of a skunk.
02:36Disney references in Marsh Market.
02:39The film is flooded with self-referential humor, much of which can be found in Marsh Market.
02:44The neighborhood is like an aquatic and semi-aquatic Disneyland.
02:48When Zootopia was founded, this whole neighborhood got cut off from the rest of the town.
02:53It's the only place to get away with wearing a shirt and no pants.
02:56In a nod to The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan, there's a shop called Ariel's Grotto and another named Hook's Bait and Tackle.
03:04When Judy and Nick hop aboard a boat, the captain serenades them with Bellanotte from Lady and the Tramp.
03:09Look at the skies, they have stars in their eyes, on this lovely Bellanotte.
03:23Upon arriving at the reptile hideout, there's a sign that reads Mr. Toads, hinting at the wild ride they're about to take.
03:30As our heroes flee from Marsh Market, be on the lookout for a sign reading Club 33, a reference to the most private, elite, and expensive dining experience you'll find at a Disney park.
03:40Hey Flash! Flash! 100 Yard Dash! We need to get across town!
03:45No! Problem!
03:49The Shining Hedge Maze
03:50It's funny to think how often The Shining has been referenced in Pixar movies.
03:55Just look at the carpeting in the original Toy Story, or this line from Finding Nemo for a few examples.
04:01He is Brucey!
04:03Now Disney's animation studio is getting in on the in-joke, with part of Zootopia's 2 climax taking place in a giant snowy hedge maze.
04:11Not only is the setting similar, but Paubert Linksley has a crazed look on his face that resembles Jack Nicholson's in the 1980 film.
04:19Do you know how many mayors they've already destroyed?
04:23One, two.
04:26I got up to two.
04:27Thankfully, Wendy and Danny Torrance survive by getting away in a snowcat.
04:31Likewise, Judy and Nick stumble upon a snowplow.
04:34Instead of using it to get away, though, they come up with a shortcut through the maze.
04:38We have to solve the case.
04:40It's not worth dying for.
04:41Silence of the Lamb.
04:44How did you know where to find us?
04:46I'll go ahead and I'll take that case now.
04:48You know what?
04:49I think Nick and I will just take this to the ZPD.
04:53Believe it or not, The Shining isn't the darkest movie that Zootopia 2 pays homage to.
04:58During a prison break that backfires, our heroes have a run-in with an incarcerated Don Bellwether.
05:04The former mayor eerily looks as if she were waiting for them, much like Hannibal Lecter first greeted Clarice in The Silence of the Lambs.
05:11Good morning.
05:12Dr. Lecter, my name is Clarice Starling.
05:15Can I speak with you?
05:17You're one of Jack Crawford's, aren't you?
05:19I am, yes.
05:20We guess this would be Silence of the Sheep, since Don isn't a lamb anymore.
05:25Don has also made furniture out of her wool, which we think must be the sheep equivalent of Ed Gein's skin keepsakes.
05:32Having escaped, Don resurfaces at the airport in the end, again looking like Lecter when he called Clarice over the phone.
05:38I do wish we could chat longer, but I'm having an old friend for dinner.
05:46Bye.
05:46Thankfully, Nick and Judy are already on the case.
05:51Rat in the Hat
05:52Zootopia 2 has a couple of Pixar Easter eggs.
05:55When Nick's jumbo soda blasts through the wall, a poster over Paul's desk reads,
06:00Crush the Bugs, mimicking the logo for A Bug's Life.
06:03Because we are the green team!
06:08Sorry, Paul.
06:09There's also the tiniest of hidden Mickeys on another worker's desk.
06:16During Nick and Judy's chase through a kitchen, a lion chef loses his hat, exposing the rat pulling the strings, or hair.
06:23While you might have caught this Ratatouille reference, there's a subtle detail in the raccoon chef who calls the lion out.
06:30That should do it.
06:36Congratulations.
06:36You were able to repeat your accidental success.
06:40Not just because the raccoon is voiced by Disney regular Alan Tudyk,
06:44but it's seemingly a nod to Raccoon-y from Everything Everywhere All at Once.
06:49Raccoon-y, I don't know what I'd do without you.
06:53Yeah, we make a pretty good team.
06:58Oh no.
07:00You can't tell me what.
07:02You seem too much.
07:03If so, this reference brings the joke full circle like an everything bagel.
07:09Frying pans.
07:09Who knew?
07:10Ah.
07:12Alone at last.
07:1715 years after Tangled, co-director Byron Howard is still finding clever uses for frying pans.
07:23As Gary DeSnake pleads with Judy to let him go, Nick intervenes with a trusty kitchen utensil.
07:28This is our only chance to set things right.
07:32And when I do, my family will finally be able to come home.
07:40According to co-director Jared Bush, the frying pan isn't just modeled after the one that Rapunzel used.
07:46It's the same sound effect as well.
07:49Huh?
07:52This isn't the only time in Zootopia 2 when frying pans come in handy.
07:56Just when it appears the villain has been defeated, he resurfaces to finish the job.
08:01Fortunately, Captain Hogbottom and Truffler show up with a frying pan in hand.
08:05And since they're pigs, they couldn't resist stealing a line from Babe.
08:09That'll do, pig.
08:15That'll do.
08:16Don't tell them that frying pans are used for bacon in our universe.
08:20Once a decade.
08:22Having repaired the carrot recorder pen, Nick makes a new message for Judy, saying that he loves her.
08:28Nick informs Judy that he's only telling her that once every decade, however.
08:31I really am just a dumb bunny.
08:34I really am just a dumb bunny.
08:44I really am just a dumb bunny.
08:48Don't worry, Carrots.
08:49I'll let you race it.
08:51In 48 hours.
08:53He's not lying.
08:54While the events of Zootopia 2 occur not long after its predecessor,
08:58the first film came out nearly 10 years ago.
09:01That film ended with Nick slyly saying,
09:03You know you love me.
09:05Do I know that?
09:07Yes.
09:08Yes, I do.
09:09Which Judy can't deny.
09:11So technically, it's been almost a decade since Nick last used that four-letter word that starts with L.
09:16Does that mean we'll have to wait another 10 years for Zootopia 3?
09:20When we inevitably do, we think Nick and Judy will be headed for the sky if the post-credit scene is any indication.
09:26I keep falling down, I keep on hitting the ground, but I always gotta know, see what's next.
09:35Voice-over cameos.
09:37The voice cast is loaded with Disney royalty.
09:40Josh Gad, best known for voicing the overly optimistic Olaf, is the cynical Paul.
09:45Did you try to be silent?
09:47Did you try not being an idiot?
09:50Several Encanto alumni can be heard, with Stephanie Beatriz and Wilmer Valderrama as a couple of hippo cops,
09:56plus John Leguizamo as Anthony Suitley.
09:59Former Disney Channel star Brenda Song voices a lynx-ly alongside her partner, Macaulay Culkin.
10:03In a Moana reunion of sorts, Ali Cravalho voices Gary's anti-venom pen,
10:12while Dwayne Johnson briefly surfaces as Zeke the Dick Dick.
10:17Beyond Disney stars, wrestlers Roman Reigns and CM Punk are the Z-Bros.
10:22With Ed Sheeran as Ed Sheeran, Blake Slatkin as The Lake Lambkin,
10:26and Michael J. Fox as a fox named Michael J., some of these jokes write themselves.
10:31I mean, you're clearly working it.
10:33Man, I nailed that.
10:35Agree to disagree.

10:52In-universe Disney movies and shows.
10:54In the first film, we see Duke Weaselton selling bootleg DVDs for several Disney movies, with an animalistic twist.
11:01Well, well, look who it is.
11:04The Duke of bootleg.
11:05What's it to you, Wilde?
11:06Shouldn't you be melting down a popsicle or something?
11:08Hey, if it isn't Flopsy the Copsy.
11:11Duke is still in the DVD black market,
11:13not only peddling copies of the latest entries in the Wrangled and Floats and franchises,
11:18but also the Pandalorian.
11:20And yes, we see the irony of Duke's comment about endless remakes, reboots, and sequels.
11:24All right, all right, please.
11:26I'll talk, I'll talk.
11:27I stole M. Night House so I could sell them.
11:29They offered me what I couldn't refuse.
11:31Money.
11:32While physical media isn't what it used to be,
11:34a world of streaming is open to Nick,
11:36who logs into a service mirroring Disney+.
11:38Instead of Andor, Zootopia has Ramdor.
11:42Instead of Futurama, it's Future Llama.
11:45There's also Ham-Ulton,
11:47although the founding father was a pig in this reality.
11:50We wonder who shot him.
11:52Aaron Burrow?
11:53Okay, we'll leave the animal puns to the professionals.
11:57You know, this is not your worst idea.
12:00Wow, that was almost a compliment.
12:02Your worst idea is what you did with your ears.
12:04Did you catch any more Easter eggs in Zootopia 2?
