00:00You have been to the Taj Mahal?
00:01No.
00:01Oh, it is the most marvellous building in the entire world, Your Majesty.
00:05It was built by Shah Jahan to remember his dead wife, who died at childbirth during their 14th child.
00:10Goodness.
00:11He brought the greatest architects from Persia, Afghanistan, to build the Taj Mahal.
00:16I'd very much like to see it.
00:17Oh, it is beautiful, Your Majesty.
00:19It's all white marble.
00:21All that beauty for the dead queen.
00:23Shah Jahan also built the Red Fort, the Gardens of Shalimar, the Beacock Throne.
00:27It is the most beautiful throne in all the world.
00:29And inside the throne was the Kohinoor.
00:32But I have the Kohinoor. I wear it as a brooch.
00:34Do you?
00:34Yes. It wasn't very shiny, though Albert had it recut.
00:38What happened to the Beacock Throne?
00:39They smashed it up.
00:40How awful.
00:41The British soldiers have taken the jewels from the Taj Mahal.
00:44British soldiers?
00:45Oh, yes. After the mutiny.
00:47But this is terrible.
00:48A servant and an Indian. What on earth does she see in him?
00:52Well, he is rather handsome.
00:55What happened to Shah Jahan?
00:57He was overthrown by his son and died in Agra Fort.
01:01They buried him in the Taj Mahal with his wife Mumtaz.
01:04They also wrote an inscription,
01:05Here lies Shah Jahan who left this world for the banquet hall of eternity.
01:10The banquet hall of eternity.
01:11I rather like that idea.
01:13I rather like that idea.
