00:14Fans were absolutely losing it on Wednesday when the actor finally made his return to a galaxy far, far away

00:20in the series finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+.

00:23Beginning to think you'd never come?

00:26I was always here, Obi-Wan.

00:28In the closing moment of the Star Wars miniseries, Neeson returned to the franchise for the first time

00:33since 1999's Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace as Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn.

00:39It had been teased since the premiere episode that Qui-Gon might make an appearance,

00:43but there was never any guarantee given how much time has passed since Neeson last played the character.

00:48But it finally happened.

00:49The Academy Award-nominated actor told The Hollywood Reporter that his decision to return to the franchise

00:55was for a number of reasons.

00:56I certainly didn't want anyone else playing Qui-Gon Jinn,

00:59and I wanted to show my respect for George Lucas and that mythical world that he created.

01:04Plus, Ewan McGregor is a pal, and I loved working with him during The Phantom Menace 25 years ago.

01:09Neeson has noted in years past that he was always a fan of Phantom Menace,

01:13and tuned out the initial criticism for the film,

01:15which has since subsided with a generation of fans being quite fond of the prequel trilogy.

01:20Neeson told Andy Cohen on SiriusXM back in 2020,

01:23I like Phantom Menace. I'm proud of it, and proud to have been a part of it.

01:26I got to be a Jedi. I got to play with those wonderful lightsabers and stuff.

01:30It was terrific.
