00:00A big win for you on Sunday against your rivals, what's the feeling of being nice and how was it being part of that win, particularly at the performance rather?
00:09Yeah, especially the performance, I think, but I just enjoyed the whole night.
00:15Also the preparation up to it, like me personally, but you could feel it with everyone,
00:20they were excited to play that game coming back from international break.
00:24So the energy was good already and I think you could sense that from the crowd in the stadium, but also from the team.
00:30Like the way we played and the energy we played with and the passion, I think, spoke for itself.
00:34So still the feeling is great and we have to take to tomorrow.
00:38Another really impressive performance from yourself.
00:42It's been a really good season for you, you've been one of Arsenal's standout players.
00:46How well do you think you played yourself? Is this the best football you're through?
00:50I don't know about that, but I'm just trying to get better every time, every game, every day.
00:55But I think it's also the environment, I mean, the culture we're having here.
00:58I think everyone is trying to push each other.
01:01We have a big squad, so also we have to push each other.
01:04But we're also trying to win something, right?
01:06So I think I'm in the right environment to develop myself and become the best version of myself.
01:12And this is another big game, the second one in a week where you have three big sides to face.
01:17First V, second in the league phase in the Champions League.
01:20Does this feel like a big Champions League night Bayern Munich under the lights at the Emirates?
01:24No, it definitely does.
01:26Even if it wasn't first or second place, I think Bayern Munich is a big club.
01:31They have a great team, great players, great coach.
01:33So it's going to be a tough game either way.
01:36And I think two teams that want to press, want to play.
01:39So I think for the fans it's going to be an exciting game as well.
01:42Hi there.
01:43Hi.
01:44Hi.
01:45I'm going to give you two quotes, OK?
01:47I'm going to try and guess who said this.
01:48I'm going to guess who said this.
01:49Yeah, OK.
01:50Jürgen Timber is the best fullback in the league at the moment.
01:55Maybe my mum?
01:57You probably find it's quite far removed from that.
02:02That was actually Gary Neville.
02:04And the other quote is one player who has gone even beyond the high expectation is Jürgen Timber.
02:11He's a special player and a special guy.
02:15That's Epps.
02:16Every team?
02:17Yeah, yeah.
02:18What's your reaction when you hear people talk about you in that way?
02:22And have you exceeded your own expectation?
02:25Yeah, good question.
02:28I think it's always nice to hear.
02:31Like compliments are always good to hear.
02:34Especially if it comes from a teammate like Epps.
02:38And what I said, I think it's also the environment I'm in.
02:43It's like it makes you want to go harder, play better also for your teammates.
02:49And I think we're having a lot of fun in our training.
02:54And it's not just on the pitch, but also off the pitch.
02:56And I think that's important.
02:58At the same time, playing for a big club, when everything goes well, it just comes with it as well.
03:05You know, people start to say nice things about you.
03:08But sometimes, like within a season also, even within a good season, sometimes you have some bad moments.
03:13And also then people will say stuff.
03:15And so it's also, I think, important not to get too much attached to what people say outside.
03:20But like I said, it's always nice when people say nice things.
03:23Just picking up on that, the bookies have got Arsenal as the outright favourites to win the league.
03:28And maybe even have an even more special season with the other trophies that you're competing for.
03:33How do you shut out the noise and what role does Mikel Arteta play in that?
03:39Well, I think Mikel, he leads by example.
03:43I think, obviously he loves to win, but the day after he's already focused on the next one.
03:49So we just roll with that.
03:51And what I said, he leads by example, we just follow him.
03:54And he's so honoured in that sense of focusing on the next game
04:01that also you don't have too much time to enjoy the last one.
04:04I think that's important.
04:05And the culture and the environment I just talked about, I think he created that.
04:10And he doesn't let go any day on that, to be honest.
04:17Charlie?
04:18How pleased are you that, not just you, but you and the defence are getting recognition?
04:22Because when you get to get winning teams, normally people just talk about goalscores.
04:26First of all, how nice is it that you're being recognised at the back four and the keeper?
04:30And B, obviously, Bayern are playing ever so well.
04:32And how confident are you that, you know, your team can keep Harry Kane or Bayern?
04:37Yeah, that's not going to be easy, of course.
04:41I think it also comes with the clean sheet we were having.
04:45So after a couple of clean sheets, people will keep talking about how good the defence is.
04:51But I don't think it's just defenders.
04:55If you look at Epp's performance the other day against Tottenham Hotspur,
04:58I think he scored three goals but defensively he was amazing as well.
05:02So I think it's the whole team that's just trying to step up and do a bit more also.
05:06Because if you have an example, Big Gabi, he's out and everyone knows how important he is for us.
05:13And at the same time you also know as defenders or as a team you have to step up
05:18and a big player like him goes out of the team.
05:21So I think it's just everyone taking their responsibility in defending and also attacking.
05:26And together then we go from there.
05:29What do you think of Harry as a player?
05:31I think he's an amazing striker.
05:33Everyone knows that he has so many qualities.
05:36He's been doing it for such a long time already.
05:38And by I mention, he's also being one of the best players in the world.
05:42So it's going to be a nice challenge for us as a team, as defenders, to stop in tomorrow.
05:47I think I'm not saying in your last season with Ajax you played mainly in the centre of the defence.
05:53Now we're seeing you in a couple of a car on the right and playing so far off the pitch.
05:58How would you describe the success behind the evolution of your positions?
06:03That's true.
06:05I played a lot of centre-back position when I played for Ajax.
06:11But I've always, always played at multiple positions already.
06:15So when I came here I played a lot on the left-back position as well.
06:19So just trying to adjust and trying to understand what the manager wants from me.
06:24It doesn't matter what position and just trying to understand the game
06:28because then it's easy as well for me to play in multiple positions.
06:31And then now after I came here obviously I got injured and now I've played a bit more games
06:37on the full-back position on the right side.
06:39So it also comes I think with games and spending time with the players in front of you.
06:44I think last year as well I played a lot but Bukaya was injured and maybe Ethan was playing there.
06:50Or Martin Ali was playing the right side.
06:53So also with just having games and playing with the same players a bit it comes easier.
06:59Yeah.
07:00You were on the armband when you were playing there as well.
07:02Mikel told us at the start of the season that they had a bow
07:05and that Mikel had won by every single bow.
07:08So as a former captain why did Mikel had won by every single bow?
07:12Because Martin is another example for someone that leads by example.
07:18I think everyone looks up to him in the way he does his things
07:22and the way also he performs every time he's on the pitch.
07:25But if he speaks everyone listens and I think he's the obvious leader for us.
07:32Simon?
07:33You were talking recently about when you came back from injury
07:37and you put on too much muscle.
07:41A lot of us would be an ethical thing to be too muscle.
07:46What was the situation that led to that?
07:48How did you change it when you came back?
07:51Obviously when you're injured you're in the gym a lot.
07:53So my body if I'm doing a lot of...
07:57I was talking I think about my upper body and when I'm in the gym a lot
08:01my upper body goes quite quick so I try not to do it too much.
08:05But it's also like here at Arsenal we have some great coaches here
08:10and I realised that already very quick when I did my ACL
08:14that the physios and the strength and conditioning trainers are amazing.
08:19So they helped me with that and I don't have to think about it by myself luckily.
08:24I saw about you also taking out the pilates.
08:27That I like to do, yeah.
08:29And what was the sort of reason on that and how has it helped you?
08:32Yeah, also a recommendation from Arsenal.
08:35That's something I do here and I do it every week
08:39and it's just part of my routine, something I like to do.
08:42That's more cordon and a bit of stretching as well.
08:45Yeah, just something I add to my recovery I would say.
08:49Or just trying to stay fit, you know.
08:51Sam?
08:52The fans always look forward to posting viral devices.
08:57What's the process by which you choose them?
09:02Is there a meaning behind which particular game you have one lined up?
09:06No, I don't have one lined up but it's very different every game to be fair.
09:12They just come to me as I'm speaking to teammates or to the people around me, close to me or family.
09:21And then I just come up with one that fits for that day by myself or for the game.
09:29So it's very different every time.
09:31But just trying to bring the world into my thoughts as well.
09:36Are you conscious of the fans now waiting for them when they come and listen?
09:41They do, yeah.
09:42Because the other day I think I almost forgot and I got a lot of messages.
09:45So I was like, where's the Bible first?
09:48So it's quite fun, yeah.
09:50Isan?
09:51In terms of the contested system then, with the full-backs,
09:54what kind of areas when you're playing full-back that you have to kind of keep in mind?
09:58It's obviously the way he plays when you're very different to the teams across the league.
10:01So what are the kind of nuances with that position?
10:04The differences in the positions?
10:05Do you have a full-back for Arsenal compared to a regular full-back?
10:10Oh, that's a lot.
10:12To be fair, when I was at Ajax, that already made me think in a different way, I think.
10:18But when I came here, this obviously is another level.
10:21And I think if you look at a game of Arsenal, I think you can tell,
10:26there's a lot being asked from you.
10:28But I think it's fun, I enjoy that process.
10:30And I think it makes me better as a player and as a person.
10:33It helps me to understand the game better and think more about the game.
10:36And that's, I think, a good thing.
10:38Yeah, I think it's very important.
10:39But there are so many aspects in the game that are important and that come together and then eventually help you win.
11:13It's something we can always fall back on.
11:16Hi, Juri.
11:17The manager mentioned last week with the loss of Gabriel.
11:20He said that the team has lost as a leader in defence.
11:23Is that something you feel you can step up now and be one of the people that really takes the initiative?
11:30Yeah, I think we have to because I think the manager is right.
11:35The presence and the leadership that Gabi brings is something massive for our team.
11:40So what I just said as well, I think as a team, as defenders, playing in that moment, whoever it is,
11:47I think you have to step up and maybe bring a bit more and that's all we're trying to do.
11:51Yeah, it could be a big statement.
12:08I think just winning from Bayern Munich is, I think, a big thing.
12:13Whether they conceded a lot or not, I think they're a good team, they're tough to play against.
12:17So I think it's the same for us, so it's going to be a good game.
12:22Hi, Juri.
12:23Arsenal fans are convinced that no wins are going to get the better of you.
12:27Tomorrow you're facing Mako Elisi.
12:29How do you prepare for a match-up like that?
12:32Just like any other match-up, to be fair.
12:36Every week, every game, there's someone, again, that's very tough to defend
12:40and luckily I'm not on my own on the pitch.
12:43You know, you do it as a team and just trying to be aggressive
12:46and, you know, always focus on my defensive part first and then my attacking as well.
12:51I know this I and I have a goal-scoring form, but you guys are the defensive part
12:56and not available for this season.
12:57Do you guys tell yourself that you guys are the best defenders in the world
13:00or just think that you're staying humble and just approach the game calmly?
13:03Yeah, you say it right there.
13:05It's just staying humble and approach the game calmly, but also aggressive, you know.
13:09And also, I think Sunday was an amazing game, but there are so many things still for me personally
13:15that I can do better defensively, but also in the attacking.
13:19And that's the same for the team.
13:20So we're just trying to find those things every time again and you have to get better as well
13:24because I think there's still a level to reach for us that needs to be reached.
13:31You are one of the few members of the squad that are open about their Christian faith.
13:37I wanted to ask you how important it is your faith to you
13:40and what sort of things do you and the other Christian members of the team do?
13:43Do you pray together? Do you play four games? What sort of things do you do?
13:47Yeah, for me it's a way of life, my faith, and I try to live by it.
13:56And we pray before games with the team because we have some Christians in our team,
14:01which is amazing.
14:02And I think it brings unity and understanding because you kind of live the same life
14:08and then it's not always as easy.
14:10So those conversations are good and I think it's an amazing thing to have in our team.
14:16Staying on the topic of the Christian teammates,
14:19your relationship on the right-hand side with Mukaya Saka has continued to improve.
14:23I wanted to ask you what is your relationship like with him
14:26and what sort of things have you done on and off the pitch to make that connection even stronger?
14:30Yeah, we have a good relationship. Mukaya is a great guy.
14:35I think he has a good relationship with everyone in the team, you know,
14:38because he's a likeable guy. Everyone likes him and he's a kid of the club as well.
14:42And he's a fantastic player as well, so it makes it easier for me to play with.
14:47So, yeah, sometimes we hang off the pitch as well.
14:50And what I said, I think the whole team together on and off the pitch,
14:54we are great together. I think the energy and that togetherness
14:58and the unity we need to use and bring on the pitch as well.
15:02No, I haven't heard about that one, no. I like it though.
15:09The last two because Mikel has just arrived, but Samu and Davides.
15:12Jordan, with the best defensive player you have in the Champions League,
15:18I wonder how much Harry Kane came into the conversation in the pressing group
15:22and the former Spurs player trying to stop him from scoring at the Emirates
15:26when he scored previously in the 6-0 game.
15:29Yeah, I think when you face opposition where Harry Kane is the striker,
15:34I think he's a topic and you discuss him as defenders because he's one of the dangerous players.
15:40But what I said, it's just as any other game.
15:44We discuss their players and the way they play and for tomorrow that's the same.
15:48Final question.
15:50What do you think about the excellence your defence has reached?
15:54What do you think is the secret there?
15:57I think it's unity, togetherness, being aggressive
16:02and also the responsibility to be at your best.
16:06And that's for everyone, I think.
16:08Perfect, we'll end it there. Thank you guys.
16:12You might want to leave off.
16:14I think I was just going to say.
16:16Thanks, Gerry.
16:22Thanks, Gerry.
16:24Thanks, Gerry.
