00:00Andy Garcia is opening up about The Godfather Part 3 prior to the release of Mario Puzo's
00:14The Godfather Coda, the death of Michael Corleone, a new version of the film recut by Francis Ford
00:19Coppola. Garcia watched the new cut of the film with an intimate group that included Al Pacino
00:24and Diane Keaton, and all were pleased with the result, but the actor who stars as Vincent
00:29Corleone in the 1990 Paramount film never understood the dissatisfaction with the original
00:34version. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he says, I never had an issue with the first one,
00:38but I am very close to it. Garcia was Oscar nominated for playing Vincent, the illegitimate son of Sonny
00:44Corleone. The first two films are considered among the best films ever made, but even with the third
00:49being nominated for a number of Oscars, there was major criticism for the third, all of which were
00:54unwarranted, according to Garcia, especially the disdain for Sofia Coppola. The actor says
01:00that Winona Ryder was originally cast as Mary Corleone, but had to drop out shortly after
01:05production started, so Sofia took over the role in her father's film. I think if people revisit
01:10this film, they will see a very honest, deep, and soulful performance by Sofia. I think there is
01:16great tragedy in the character, a very courageous performance, and I am very proud of the work
01:21we did. Mario Puzo's The Godfather Coda, The Death of Michael Corleone will have a limited
01:25theatrical release beginning Friday and arrive on Blu-ray and digital December 8th. For more on
