00:00U.S. President Donald Trump resorted to Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act,
00:09which pertains to terrorism-related designations in the United States,
00:14to begin the process of designating certain branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations.
00:22According to this law, President Trump can use executive authority, already granted by Congress,
00:28to initiate these designations without needing additional approval.
00:33Using this law also means directing the Secretaries of State and Treasury
00:37to consult within 30 days with the Director of National Intelligence and the U.S. Attorney General
00:43to prepare a report covering the status of the targeted Muslim Brotherhood branches in Egypt,
00:49Jordan, and Lebanon, which will be subject to sanctions.
00:53The White House stated that some branches of the organization support violent campaigns in their regions
00:59and against U.S. citizens and interests.
