00:00I was a high school kid, I did stand-up, my brother brought me, he was going to Boston University and he said there's comedy nights at clubs in town, you should do that.
00:10And I said, yeah, yeah, yeah, good. And then one night we're eating dinner with my family and he says, are you ready to do that stand-up comedy thing?
00:19And I said, yeah, when is that? He goes, tonight, I told you.
00:22And I said, okay, he goes, do you know what you're going to say? I said, no, no, no, I don't.
00:26And he goes, all right, well, it's five minutes. And I said, all right, I can do that. I'll talk about grandma.
00:32And what does that mean, I'll talk about grandma?
00:35Around my house, I would try to sound like my grandmother and make my father laugh.
00:39And so I was like, let me bring that on to the stage in Boston.
00:42Can we hear a little grandma now?
00:44Oh, yeah. Truth was, one time my grandma, this is a big story in my house, I was in Florida visiting and I took a shower in the morning and I did my day.
00:54And then that night I was taking another shower and my grandmother said, you take a lot of showers.
00:59And I said, yes, yes. She goes, I, I think you're in there.
01:04I swear to God. So I, I told my.
01:07Well, there's your five minutes right there.
01:09I didn't use that, but I should have. But that's a, that was a big famous story in my house.
01:14So your grandmother and your parents and your family all very supportive of whatever it was that lay ahead of you, lie ahead of you.
01:20My, my family was very supportive. My father was always kind of looking at me like, are you sure about this?
01:26But everybody else was just like, yeah, Adam's terrific.
01:29Anyway, getting back to the five minutes of the Boston Comedy Club.
01:33What would, do you remember the five minutes?
01:35No, but I do remember I was devastatingly bad and nobody laughed.
01:40And I was five minutes of just silence. And at the very end, I heard a man say, he's wearing a retainer.
