00:17Oh man, this is embarrassing.
00:22The complete history of film just doesn't exist.
00:26Basically everybody threw that history away.
00:29And it's collectors like me that jumped into the bins, garbage cans,
00:33started collecting stuff.
00:35And then when people started saying,
00:37Hey, what happened to this film?
00:39Somebody in the woodwork had it.
00:45Let me give you my theory on film collectors of my generation,
00:48which is admittedly most collectors.
00:51We've handled film for so long
00:53that its molecules have become fused with ours.
00:57And we've become part film.
00:59Matter of fact, we've become movie monsters.
01:03And that's really what film collecting is.
01:05One long monster movie.
01:07We're all little kids who just love the magic of that image being shot out of a projector.
01:17And have everyone just sit back and go,
01:20Oh, amazing.
01:23I could give you a list this high of the busts that have been made by the FBI.
01:28And for the first time, they're going to jail.
01:31The judge said six months and didn't say suspended afterwards.
01:33And they hauled me off in handcuffs.
01:35They were concerned that we were making videocapes.
01:38They don't understand film collectors.
01:40A true film collector wants film.
01:42They don't want tape.
01:43And so here we are exhuming the remains of what was very important and significant.
01:49That has not been recognized and not been preserved for future generations.
01:54Wow.
01:55I love the fact that we're all in the fight, the good fight together.
01:59Is this a fight you're going to win?
02:01No.
02:02I don't think so.
02:04And yet, if we don't try, then we've lost already.
02:09I would say that the greatest thrill in handling all of these archival materials
02:25is to have passing through your hands actual history in the making.
02:31So it's a thrilling occupation.
02:33I preserved it for 50 years, but I'm not going to be here that much longer.
02:38So we have to pass it on to somebody who really does this all the time.
02:49Why be like everyone else, you know?
02:51Be unique.
02:52Be special.
