00:00Hi everyone, my name is Sara Khaki.
00:12My name is Muhammad Reza Aini.
00:14And we together are directors, producers and editors of Cutting Through Rocks.
00:22Cutting Through Rocks tells the story of a woman who lives in the northwest of Iran,
00:28who demands space for the dignity and the independence of not just herself,
00:34but the women in her community.
00:36And in this space, this is not an easy task to achieve.
00:41And our film follows her journey.
00:43May some people ask, why did you spend seven years on making this film?
00:48My answer is so simple, because we found this story very vital to be told.
00:55And for me, the stories that are explored in Cutting Through Rocks,
01:01mainly the gender injustice and the invisibility that women have to face on a day-to-day basis,
01:08is deeply personal to me, and at the same time, familiar and universal.
01:15But what makes this film very unique, I think, is the resilience and hope that inspires others to dream bigger.
01:25Also, I'm coming from a community.
01:28I have deep understanding about nuances of the culture and the dynamics.
01:36I was waiting for a chance to make a film about this underrepresented community.
01:42And it is the male-female duo artist collaboration as directors that we have underground,
01:51that has given us the access the way it did.
01:56We wouldn't have been able to acquire it otherwise.
01:59Yeah. Also, we wanted to tell this story through a strong cinematic language.
02:04What we did was listening, witnessing, and then responding with our camera.
02:10This film is our visual manifest about the feelings of the characters, all characters going through.
02:19So, we want to stop talking because we believe that films are meant to be watched.
02:26We cannot wait to share the film with you at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
02:32Thank you. On big screen. Thank you.
