00:00This chart shows the most commonly used thread profiles in engineering.
00:05First is the International Metric Thread with a 60 degrees angle,
00:09widely used in machines and automotive applications.
00:13Next, the American Standard Thread and the Unified Thread,
00:17both also at 60 degrees, used mainly in fasteners, bolts and nuts.
00:22The Whitworth Thread uses a 55 degrees angle
00:25and is stronger for vibration-prone applications.
00:28Similarly, the pipe thread also has a 55 degrees angle,
00:32but is specially designed for sealing in gas, water and pressure piping.
00:37The knuckle thread has a rounded profile,
00:40ideal for items that need smooth action like bottle caps and railway couplings.
00:45The square thread is used for power transmission because it provides minimum friction.
00:50The trapezoidal thread with a 29 degrees angle is used in lead screws,
00:55jacks and machine tool slides for high load capacity.
00:59Finally, the buttress thread handles heavy one-directional loads,
01:03making it ideal for vices, presses and oil field tools.
01:07Each thread type is designed for a specific purpose to ensure strength,
01:12sealing and performance in engineering applications.
