00:00All right, showtime.
00:01All right, we'd love to talk about sources.
00:04Let's put it this way, you'd love to talk about sources,
00:06and I'd love not to talk about sources.
00:13People, for a lot of reasons, they talk.
00:19They talk to me.
00:23People want to talk about stuff they did
00:25that was wrong and stupid.
00:28All you had to do was just let their voice be the story.
00:33There's a history of America that's so hard to write.
00:36I was always writing stories that got certain people mad.
00:38This fellow Hirsch is a son of a bitch.
00:40He's probably a communist agent.
00:42Cy, last week you broke a story about an army lieutenant
00:45who was accused of murdering 109 Vietnamese civilians.
00:50Nobody's willing to say, well, you know,
00:52the army's lying through its teeth.
00:53Cy had some sort of appeal,
00:55and a lot of people want to talk to him.
00:57Cy's reporting was the trigger
01:00that set up the ugliest portrayal of a government agency.
01:04Vietnam, Kissinger, Watergate.
01:07Foreign assassinations.
01:08I'll be great.
01:09It just got worse, worse, worse.
01:13What the fuck is this doing in your hands?
01:15I don't know how this stuff slipped into your file,
01:17but these are all people that I would never mention their names.
01:21I can't do it.
01:22That would be murderous.
01:23Look at this.
01:25It's complicated to know who to trust.
01:27You know, I barely trust you guys.
01:29Time after time, I'm told things that turn out to be right.
01:32The power these people have is so immense.
01:36They would do anything to stay in power.
01:39Any lie, any story, bury anybody.
01:43You know too much about what I'm doing,
01:46so I'd like to quit.
01:47Maybe we should cut?
01:48No, no, let's just quit it.
