00:00United States President Donald Trump has signed a new law
00:03ordering the release of government files on the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein
00:08after facing political pressure from within his own party.
00:12The files are expected to shed more light on Epstein's activities,
00:17though some information will still be kept out of public view.
00:22Attorney General Pam Bondi says the Justice Department will publish the documents
00:27within 30 days as required by Congress.
00:30She said the department supports full transparency.
00:33Even so, the release may not be complete.
00:35The law allows officials to hold back personal details of victims
00:39and any material that could interfere with ongoing investigation.
00:43The legislation also requires the department to release information
00:47related to the inquiry into Epstein's death in federal custody in 2019,
00:52which officials ruled a suicide.
00:55Trump had long been associated socially with Epstein,
00:57though he has repeatedly said he did not know about Epstein's crimes
01:01and had cut ties with him long ago.
