Alpine's engineers have undertaken extensive development work to extract maximum performance from the A110 R's engine for the new Ultime version. Thanks to a specially developed engine map, the engine can now achieve a specific output of up to 190 hp per liter of displacement using higher octane fuel (RON 102) – a figure that surpasses the specific output of competition models.
Numerous modifications were made to achieve this spectacular result. Some parts are derived from GT4 racing and supplied by Oreca®, such as the reinforced connecting rods and pistons, which withstand the pressure in the combustion chamber, especially when using RON 102 fuel. This allows for greater ignition advance, pushing back the physical limits of knocking (pre-ignition) and enabling higher boost pressure. The turbocharger was redesigned to achieve a wheel and turbine combination that allows for greater compression potential with a maximum boost pressure of up to 2.9 bar. The spark plugs are also a special type.
