00:00Now, back to Willard and Dibs.
00:22Um, I'm not a doctor, so, um, it's questionable.
00:25Questionable concern.
00:26Alright.
00:27All right, 888-957-9570, I can already give you a preview of a topic that you and I can
00:38do in February.
00:40Yeah?
00:41February.
00:43Don't trade Mac.
00:45Do not trade Mac, and I don't think they will.
00:49Oh, God, we can start the debate now.
00:51Let's bet.
00:52Let's bet.
00:53I'm not going to make a bet right now, because I don't know what's going to happen.
00:58Like, Brock could have his toe flare up again, and he could have surgery that's going to take
01:03him out for three months.
01:04Okay, but if we get to the end of the year and Brock is not hurt.
01:07When we get to that point, then we can have this conversation, we can make that bet.
01:11I just think the Niners are going to keep him.
01:13And actually, Kyle Shanahan said something pre-game last week that insinuated, I mean,
01:19he flatly was like, I'm so pumped that we have him for two years.
01:22Yeah.
01:23I'm going to borrow from your drop.
01:25Okay.
01:25Trade him!
01:26Yeah, I don't.
01:27First of all.
01:28I would like them to trade him.
01:30I don't.
01:31Trade him!
01:32I get myself a three.
01:33It's decent.
01:34The Niners are going to get the offers that you all think they're going to get.
01:39That's what I think.
01:40Well, I think you're wrong.
01:42You would be wrong.
01:43Okay.
01:44Well, I think I would be right.
01:46If they got offered a second-round pick, you don't think that that offer would come in?
01:52But I'm just saying, if they got offered a second-round pick, would they do it?
01:58Possibly.
01:59That I don't know, but I still think no.
02:01Like, if this is...
02:04Dude, he saved the season.
02:06He saved the season.
02:07Well, not yet.
02:08I mean...
02:09No, he did.
02:09His part is, in theory, likely or kind of hopefully done.
02:15And he saved you from the adversity that most teams can't handle, which is the loss of your quarterback.
02:24Most teams can't handle that.
02:26You can't hang in there when that happens for eight games.
02:29That's a half of a season.
02:30And he did it.
02:31That's so valuable.
02:33So, you're never going to get me to say something that's going to downgrade what he did.
02:43But what I am going to say, and have said all along, is Brock is better.
02:48This is a higher-level quarterback play.
02:51If you think that it's not worth the extra $48 million, you're allowed to have that opinion.
02:56I think that it is.
02:58If I were structuring a business in the NFL, if there's a quarterback who gives me 2% more chance of winning football games,
03:06especially toward the end of the year, I'm willing to pay for that.
03:08So, that's a conversation that we've had.
03:11But that's all.
03:12I'm thrilled that at a time when the defense looks like it does, the 49ers, for the moment, knock on wood,
03:20they're getting healthy on offense, and I believe they're going to need to be good, and I believe they are going to be good.
03:27So, that's all.
03:28There's nothing that denigrates what Mack Jones achieved in the eight games that he started.
03:33I just think that this is a noticeably better quarterback and better offense when Brock is running it healthy and at his best.
03:41I think that Brock is a better player, but I also think that yesterday is not a very good example of Brock versus Mack,
03:50because as you go through the game, and I did again this morning, most of the throws that Brock made were to wide-open human beings.
03:58And Mack Jones would be able to...
04:00Mack Jones in yesterday's game against that defense with that play calling, he would have been able to make those throws.
04:06So, for me, the example of yesterday is not, for me, a, oh, rubber stamp, there it is,
04:13because yesterday, if you watch it again, and I have, Arizona's defense was mostly a joke.
04:18So, the pre-snap thing that you talked about that Brock did to open up the 30-yard touchdown pass,
04:24I think Mack had a total of one 30-plus-yard touchdown pass through all eight games.
04:30That pre-snap adjustment...
04:33It was awesome.
04:34So, Mack would have done that?
04:35I don't know, and you don't know if he would have either.
04:38Like, for you to sit here and say, Mack wouldn't have done that, would be as foolish as me saying that Mack would have done that because...
04:44I didn't say that.
04:46Right, and what I pointed out to you was that Brock Purdy, and I wrote it in my notes, that was brilliant.
04:52He saw the defense, and he made the change, they audibled, and Kittle got one-on-one,
04:58Kittle got down the sideline, and he made a great throw.
05:00The game plan when Mack was in was clear.
05:03Get rid of ball as fast as possible.
05:07Because, first of all, let's not forget, Mack was largely hurt most of the time that he's been in the game.
05:12And the offensive line that he had in front of him was not what they had yesterday.
05:16Also true.
05:16Yesterday, that was their starting offensive line.
05:18Also true.
05:19So, I'm not going to disagree with you.
05:21This is true in all sports.
05:23It's no different than being like, MJ or LeBron.
05:25It's really hard to compare two situations that are totally different.
05:31And we don't have to see this the same.
05:34But I see a completely more dynamic offense.
05:36I see an offense where the quarterback is able to hold the ball longer because he has mobility.
05:41Therefore, he can buy more time.
05:43I see more chemistry between him and the established receivers who he's been working with for multiple years.
05:49I just see all that.
05:51And none of that is to denigrate Mack Jones.
05:53And no, my opinion was not born yesterday.
05:56So, I'm not only using yesterday as an example.
05:59This has been my opinion the whole time.
06:01I'll never understand why a part of the fan base feels the way it does about a quarterback that has achieved what he's achieved in this uniform.
06:10It's wild to me.
06:11But that's okay.
06:12It's fine.
06:12And I would never sit here and denigrate a quarterback in Brock Purdy who has done really well.
06:18I look at yesterday as an example, as a one-off, a game where he came back and Brock Purdy was good.
06:26He was good.
06:27The offense was phenomenal.
06:29Kyle Shanahan schemed up a bunch of stuff that Arizona had a hard time covering.
06:34And so, I'm going to go through every one of his throws.
06:37And I'm going to find the toughest throw.
06:39And it might be that the kid will throw.
06:41And I have it up in front of me right now.
06:42And that was a great audible.
06:44He checked to a different play.
06:46Arizona did not react.
06:48And Kittle was able to go one-on-one, run by the guy.
06:51And he made a beautiful throw.
06:53Beautiful throw.
06:54Yeah, Peter and Milbray.
06:55Hey, Peter, thanks for calling.
06:57What's going on?
06:59Not much.
07:00Thanks for taking my call.
07:02I agree with you, Willard.
07:04Like, I don't have a problem with Mac Jones.
07:06He did what he needed to do.
07:08He came in and did.
07:09But the fact that we as 49er fans are just so fickle.
07:13Here's Brock Purdy, who has taken us to two NFC Championship games, one Super Bowl, left the lead, left the field in the Super Bowl with the lead in overtime, was fourth in MVP voting, was the first quarterback since Jeff Garcia to throw for 4,000 yards and over 25 touchdowns in a single season.
07:34And he's done it consistently for three years, including last year, where he was injured.
07:42The entire team was injured.
07:43And that was mostly on the defense that couldn't hold a lead because we were so injured.
07:47It's kind of similar to this year.
07:49Compared to Mac Jones, who's only been to the playoffs once, has one playoff game, and besides that, has literally just not really done much in this league.
07:59What really confuses me is that all the people that I heard that wanted five years ago that when we traded up wanted Trey Lance and not Mac Jones are now saying that they want Mac Jones as the quarterback, which is totally insane to me how you can just change just like that after the guy has literally only played eight games for you, whereas Brock has played over 20 for us.
08:23So, if you want my opinion, I think the offensive line is the biggest problem with the offense, but that's just me.
08:29Like, they need to fix the offensive line this offseason, try and fix, you know, like the injuries, how they keep happening.
08:38But do I think Mac Jones should start over Brock Purdy?
08:42No.
08:42He did what he needed to do.
08:44He did what a backup's supposed to do.
08:46And now Brock, who is much more accomplished in this league, done a lot more in this league than Mac, should get the job back and continue playing, and that's what he did yesterday.
08:56Peter, thanks.
08:57Although, I would say, Peter, to your point about the offensive line, which is a fair one, I think that this is a moment where we can give them some of their due, right?
09:06I mean, the last couple of games, last week, too, I thought the offensive line is getting healthier, performing better.
09:12One thing that has been a constant through the years in the NFL, if you give someone with the last name Shanahan good offensive line production, you're going to score points.
09:23And that's true for the 49ers as well.
09:25Like, that's a huge piece of this puzzle.
09:28And that's where I will agree that whether it's Mac, Brock, or whatever, if you keep them upright, if you keep them up and clean, and you're not getting sacked, like, you're going to keep your turnovers to a minimum, and you are going to move the ball.
09:43And you are going to convert third downs and all of those things.
09:46Well, they didn't have third downs, is the thing.
09:48They had nine, according to the box score.
09:51I looked at my notes.
09:52I thought that there were eight, but you converted three of them, and that's fine.
09:55You didn't have to.
09:56You stayed ahead of the sticks, and the other piece of it with the offensive line, and all you have to do is look at Arizona yesterday and all their penalties.
10:04The Niners had a grand total of zero penalties on offense.
10:06The only penalty was the Renardo Green unnecessary roughness after the play.
10:11That was the end of their penalties.
10:13No special teams holds, no false starts, no holds by the O-line, so you were never self-inflictedly behind the sticks.
10:22So, even when you didn't do great on first down, it wasn't second and 13, it was second and eight, and you were able to stay ahead of it.
10:29You avoided third downs.
10:30You didn't even need to worry about fourth down.
10:33The O-line yesterday was patently great.
10:35Yeah, they were fantastic.
10:36They were fantastic.
10:37And so that's, to me, we've said this so many times, that's the key to great offense in the NFL.
10:43It starts there, and if they get that, I think they're going to be really good.
10:48And that's kind of the point.
10:49For me, yesterday, that's what yesterday felt like.
