00:00Well, hello and welcome along to Invictus Sport, the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping up all of Ken's sporting action.
00:23I'm Kristen Hawthorne and here's what to expect on this Monday the 17th of November.
00:30Darts flying high, we meet the Dartford FC's women's team heading to the second round of the FA Cup this weekend.
00:38Hotel in One, London Golf Club in Sevenoaks reveals their plans for 240 room hotel and resort.
00:45And boxing for a brighter future, Maidstone Fighters took to the ring to raise awareness about mental health.
00:51But first, here is a round up of the top sports headlines from across the week.
00:58Over to Priestfield as Gilliam's Bradley Dak scored his fourth goal of the season last Saturday, netting his 43rd goal for the club.
01:06The goal came in a 2-2 draw against Crawley, which saw Dak convert a cleanly placed shot from a corner routine.
01:14This sees Dak become Gilliam's top scorer this season.
01:18The 31-year-old midfielder is once again becoming a regular after his return this summer, with Jill's manager Ainsworth stating he's definitely in my plans going forward.
01:28We can hear more from Dak from Ainsworth now.
01:32No, we're really lucky to have someone with the quality of Dak to be on the end of that.
01:39And there's 18 people in front of the goal and a goalkeeper.
01:42And there's probably one place you can put it, which is the top corner.
01:45And if you want anyone to do that, it is Brad.
01:48And, yeah, great from him.
01:50So, yeah, great way to take the lead just before half-time.
01:53But, yeah, gutted we went 2-0 up because I think that's a mistake by the officials.
02:02Sports hit eight goals at the weekend and even their manager got in on the act.
02:08It's been a tough start to the season for the Holm Park side, but they swept a side lid to make it back-to-back league wins.
02:15Goals from Simon Gima, goal Joe Giwana, Jamal Hector Ingham and David Latunde had the hosts 7-1 up before the manager Ian Batten was called upon.
02:27Moments after his introduction, he'd complete the route from the penalty spot in the 97th minute.
02:34Sports will be hoping to keep climbing back up the table, with the manager delighted that they've found some good form at last.
02:42Next, Canterbury ended a three-match losing streak after a victory over London Welsh.
02:48The city side made a confident start after Aidan Moss, Owen Hewitt and Frank Reynolds and Tyler Oliver put Canterbury 19 points up before half-time.
02:59Ten minutes after the break, they looked to continue their dominance as Reynolds combined with Priestley Farnes.
03:05And with a 26-point lead, Canterbury would have thought the victory was secured.
03:13However, Welsh would pounce on their complacency and claw their way back into the game.
03:20But their efforts weren't enough as the game ended 31-24 in Canterbury's favour.
03:25However, this win takes them up to 8th in the National League 2 East table.
03:30And over to the world of motorsport now, as things are picking up speed for 16-year-old William Sparrow from Mardin,
03:37as he is set to take part in the FAT Carding League World Final in Willow Springs, California.
03:44The final is set to take place from December the 12th to the 14th.
03:49FAT have announced that they are giving away a fully-funded seat in the British Formula 4 Championship,
03:56with assessments being held in the UK and Spain next February.
04:00With only four assessment places up for grabs, this is a huge opportunity for 16-year-old Sparrow,
04:07who dreams of competing in Formula 1.
04:10But he says it's important to try and not think about the prize and just to focus on the race.
04:15Now, let's take a look back at this weekend's football results.
04:20Well, it's the second round proper of the FA Trophy,
04:23and with most of Kent's teams facing sides from around the country,
04:26it's only a 30-minute drive for Sitting Bourne as they head to Epps Fleet
04:29to see if they can make it to the third round.
04:32Well, it was a goalless first half with missed chances from either end,
04:36but both sides really came into their own with more energy in the second.
04:39And the deadlock wads finally broke with the fleet's Josh Pasley taking a shot,
04:44just palmed into the waiting boot of Samuel to put Epps Fleet ahead.
04:48Maybe the fleet got too comfortable, but the brickies came knocking,
04:53putting keeper Macaulay to the test, firing at the net multiple times
04:56before about the 90-minute mark when a fleet clearance bounded off the knee of Yanis Ambrosin
05:01and just looped past Macaulay into the net.
05:04An equaliser right at the death to keep Sitting Bourne from sinking and then on to penalties.
05:09It was even across the board until Darren Foxley's effort from the spot was saved
05:13and Lennon Peake put the ball away cleanly for a winner.
05:16This means Epps Fleet will head to the next round and Sitting Bourne will have to sit this one out.
05:20Unlucky for the side in a game that could have gone either way.
05:23But let's talk about games that couldn't have gone the other way.
05:27It was a 4-0 loss for Tunbridge Angels against Worthing in the trophy,
05:30with Dover Athletic getting two past Dorchester and the same for Maidstone against Torquay.
05:35Dover will next head to Western Supermare, Tunbridge to Chippenham Town,
05:39Maidstone to Enfield and the ecstatic Epps Fleet will have to keep their heads after that victory,
05:44hosting Chesham at home.
05:46Then up to League Two and Gillingham failed at the last hurdle to get three points against Crawley Town,
05:51only just conceding at Priestfield for the second time in the 82nd minute,
05:55but what a goal from Dak to put them ahead in the first half.
05:58The Gilles will hope to take maximum points home with them from a fixture away to Buffett next.
06:02Then down to the Epps Mian league Premier and only some of Kent's teams managed to earn themselves a spot
06:07in the next round of the FA Trophy, with Folkestone failing at home to AFC Totten,
06:12but the Chats managed a 1-0 victory on the road against Wimborne.
06:15Chatham will next face off against Lewis, while Invicta will head to Welling United,
06:19hoping to make up for an early exit with some points in the league.
06:22And for the remaining Epps Mian sides, it was a strong showing from Ramsgate,
06:26despite not having a full manager at the time, who's now been named as Lee Martin,
06:30who will be their interim for the time being, as they managed a 4-1 victory away to Hashtag United,
06:36who are doing very well historically against Kent's sides as they lost 6-0 to the Chats recently.
06:42Dartford also notched up a good win against Chichester City.
06:46The Darts will head to Crave Valley, Paper Mills and Ramsgate will host Canby Island,
06:50hoping to send them back across the Thames or up the M25, depending on what route they take.
06:55It doesn't really matter, but they want it to be without three points.
06:57And that's all for this week's Football Roundup.
07:01Now, while all the Kent teams lost in the FA Cup last week, Dartford's women teams have booked their place in the second round of the Women's FA Cup,
07:11the joint furthest they've ever been. They play in the London and South East's Premier Division,
07:16and in their qualifying rounds in the competition, they chucked up some strong wins against their competition,
07:22like 4-1 against Greenwich Borough and 5-1 against Forest Green Rovers.
07:28To talk to us ahead of their match this weekend, we're joined by side managers Martin McCarthy and Connor Diamond and Gabby Howe.
07:36Hello. So, we'll start off. Welcome. Can you talk us through the journey of the qualifying round?
07:44Obviously, you had 5-1 victory over Forest Green Rovers in the first round, but has it been that dominant throughout?
07:55I wouldn't say it's been super dominant, but our performances have been very good as a whole.
08:05In the league and in the Cup. We just ask the girls to go out there and give their all.
08:10And when they usually do, they perform and get the results that they deserve.
08:15Yeah, and when selecting the line-up for the game, some managers tend to view it as good minutes for the younger players.
08:22Has that been much of our priority for the games leading up to this?
08:26For the younger players?
08:31Yeah.
08:32Yeah, I mean, listen, whenever we pick squads, we just take into account that we want to win football games.
08:39So, for a lot of the younger players, of which we've got quite a few, it's important that we give them as much as we possibly can.
08:47But I think it's a collective as a group that we want to just try and go out and perform the best that we can.
08:52And I think whenever the girls are selected, whether they're young, old, experienced, not experienced,
08:57they're just given the task to do and they've been doing it brilliantly so far this season.
09:02Fabulous. Well, it's excellent to hear. We'll speak to Gabby next. How have you been preparing for the match?
09:09As we prepare for every single match, we go to training Monday, Wednesday with the right mindset that we've got to be in good habits.
09:17We've got to be with a good mindset and mindset that we're going to win.
09:20We've got to make sure that we work hard. All our fundamentals as a team and as a club, we've got to make sure that we implement that in training.
09:28So then when it gets to the game day, it's just like a training match that we're in good habits.
09:33We're in good mindset, good attitude, and we believe that we will win.
09:38And what would it mean for you personally to make it to the third round?
09:44With Dartford, it would be amazing because the group of girls that we've got is a really, really good group.
09:49We all want to succeed for each other, but for ourselves also.
09:53And it will be a pinpoint for us as a club being history makers.
10:00I mean, we were history makers before getting to the second round, which we narrowly lost by to a tier three side.
10:07So I feel like if we do get into the next round, it would be such a statement for us as a team, but also as a club.
10:12So it would be amazing if we can get there.
10:14And what is the mood among the squad? Are you feeling confident? Is it just, I mean, it must be confidence if you've made it this far already.
10:22There's confidence, but there's also not any arrogance.
10:29You know, we know that we've got to turn up.
10:31If we don't turn up, we don't win games.
10:33The team we're playing, we've got to make sure that we put a battle against them.
10:37We are confident that we'll win.
10:39When we turn up, we tend to.
10:41So, yeah, we're confident, but we're not arrogant.
10:44We know we've got to perform.
10:46Yeah, and then we'll go back to Martin and Connor.
10:50Can you tell me a bit about, I mean, if anything has changed on the training pitch leading up to the second round match?
10:56Well, we're doing this interview just before training, so nothing has had a chance to change at the moment.
11:05But the intensity has gone up quite a bit.
11:09The competition for places has probably gone up.
11:11Everyone's going to want to play their part on Sunday, so training sort of takes care of itself in that regard.
11:18We're just monitoring the situation and just seeing players individually and how they react this week.
11:25And we'll pick a side off of that.
11:28Excellent. And then just quickly, can you tell me what it would mean from the manager's perspective, what it would mean to get to the third round and how that would feel?
11:38I think, listen, it's really important from a club perspective that we try to go as far as we can and we progress every season.
11:45But I think for myself and Connor, it's going to be a good, great feeling, really, because we do do a lot of work to do that.
11:53I'm happy to wrap you up, but it sounds absolutely brilliant and we'll be back in a few minutes.
12:23And…
12:26…
12:32…
12:33…
12:34…
12:42…
19:34I've been training here for about seven years and because of coming here and training weekly,
19:37I've been able to play for England and play for the region.
19:41They've helped me develop much as a personal, all my emotional, and it's really, they've
19:47really supported me.
19:48They've helped me push through tougher times when I felt down.
19:51It has been a great enjoyment, like socialising with my friends, I've made much more friends.
19:59The hockey club is amazing because I get to play with my friends and it keeps me fit and
20:05I just really like it.
20:07The YMCA have said the lifespan of the floor has greatly reduced due to the intense activity of roller hockey
20:17and the charity has limited funds and no government or local council support, which means they need to balance their resources.
20:27However, the YMCA have proposed a small rent increase of £5.58 per hour once the refurbishment is complete in January next year,
20:40which will allow them to tackle any maintenance in the future.
20:44But there was one more thing I wanted to ask myself.
20:47Now let's see if I've got what it takes to become a rink hockey legend.
20:53It was admittedly my first time on skates like this, but thanks to the club's help, I was at least able to stand upright
21:01and even earned a certificate for my efforts.
21:05They and the YMCA are determined to make sure the wheels keep on spinning for this sport for everyone in the years to come.

21:19Save our class! Save our class!
21:24Now, with many across Kent and the rest of the country taking part in Movember this month,
21:30one Medway footballing father and son duo are taking to challenge to walk more than 60 metres.
21:39For the 60 men, we lose every hour to men's mental health issues.
21:44Hampstead Valley FC's under-11's coach Carl Clayton and his son Jacob are taking on the track while growing a moustache
21:52to raise money and awareness of the issue.
21:55We spoke to Carl earlier today.
21:58We're doing 60 kilometres of running over the whole month, which we thought was a good amount for a ten-year-old.
22:05And I'm growing this terrible moustache.
22:11Fair enough. And how have you been finding that?
22:15So obviously, we are now into the month of November.
22:18So how far through that 60 kilometres are you?
22:20And how much further, I suppose, is the moustache going to grow?
22:24Well, I mean, you know, the moustache is coming along nicely, as you can see.
22:31Yeah.
22:32We've done, I think, we're between 20 and 30 kilometres.
22:36We're not quite halfway.
22:38So we're ahead of schedule because it was basically two kilometres a day for Jacob averaged over the month.
22:46But because we're a busy family, we try and get ahead of the weekend.
22:49So we're ahead slightly at the moment.
22:52But I think we'll be on track tomorrow when we'll probably try and get out again tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.
23:01Fair enough. And tell me, what does Movember mean to you personally?
23:06I mean, it's a men's health charity.
23:11Obviously, I'm a bloke. So, but in terms of, you know, it's all about sort of early detection of testicular cancer,
23:22prostate cancers and also mental health and suicide in young men.
23:28I mean, it's just, I think it's very important to sort of raise awareness on all of those issues, really.
23:35I think it's really important.
23:37And to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention, Corey Miller went to an event organised by the charity Baton of Hope.
23:49Mayhem, Match Day and Mental Health. Three unlikely phrases to hear in the same sentence.
23:54But on Sunday in Maidstone, amateur to seasoned boxers took to the ring to raise awareness and combat suicide rates in Kent.
24:01The Baton of Hope is the UK's largest suicide prevention charity.
24:05They recently visited the county in September as its Olympic torch made its way around Kent, where it made its mark on the community.
24:12I sit on the organising committee for the charity. So I was project lead for the Kent and Medway tour for the Baton of Hope tour they did in September, October this year.
24:21So I've been involved in the charity for about three years. The community as well. I mean, you probably see in today just how close we are.
24:27It's like a family, like a family here. Everyone's got everyone's back. And Al, like my coach, it's just amazing. It's like a therapy session.
24:36It was a full arena. Friends and family were all gathered to view and support the competition.
24:41There was a wide variety of fighters with all different ages, weight and ability.
24:46From featherweight to heavyweight, we saw it all.
24:49I want to win it. I'm going in to win.
24:55But at the end of the day, it is for a charity cause to bring awareness about suicide prevention, helping those who might be struggling.
25:03There's been a lot of times where stuff has been going on in personal life that has been stressing me out.
25:08A bit sad, a bit down. You come to a session, you train for an hour, train for a couple of hours.
25:14You walk out with a grin on your face feeling great. Speak about it. Friends, co-workers who you're close with, family, speak about it.
25:25Each fighter has been training day in, day out for months leading up to the event.
25:29All of which choosing to do so for something true to themselves. Some fought for their own mental health,
25:35whereas others chose to fight for those who are no longer here to fight for themselves.
25:39In the ring, everyone was fighting for one another.
25:42For personal reasons, I wanted to get involved.
25:45A very good friend of mine had a difficult time and as a result took his own life.
25:52The reason we're all doing it is to try and promote a message and to let people know that you're not alone out there and that no matter how low you're feeling there are people that are caring for you and fighting for you and reaching out for you.
26:08Data shows that registered deaths by suicide have become stagnant in recent years, showing a call for further support from charities like Baton of Hope.
26:16With the success of the event, the charity has shattered the predicted goal of £5,000 and managed to so far raise £6,088, supporting the Baton of Hope in continuing to spread awareness.
26:28And unfortunately, that's full time on today's episode of Invictus Sport.
26:42But if you're raising awareness for men's mental health this Movember, please get in touch and you could be here on the sofa with me next week. See you then. Bye bye.
26:58Bye bye.
