00:01Our main focus here is to inspire, empower, educate children, youth, and the public in general
00:07so we can do what we can to keep Qatar clean and beautiful for generations to come.
00:15Running from 1 to 8 November, Qatar Sustainability Week celebrated its 10th edition this year.
00:21What started as a small awareness campaign has grown into a national movement,
00:25bigger, louder, and more hands-on than ever.
00:31ERSNA, Center for a Sustainable Future, an initiative of Qatar Foundation.
00:35We are leading the efforts around Qatar Sustainability Week, but we only see ourselves as a platform.
00:41We are here to give a space for anyone from families, students, businesses, administrations
00:47to design and deliver their own activities to raise awareness around sustainability at large.
00:54Sustainability at large isn't just an idea.
00:58It's part of Qatar's transformation, with nearly 200 SDG indicators tracked nationwide.
01:05At Qatar Foundation's Oxygen Park, a family marathon brought those goals to life, turning numbers into action.
01:13We have more than 150 students participating from the center and running to support for the Sustainable Development Goals.
01:21And the marathon itself, it's contained a 17 station.
01:25Each station represents one of the SDGs, and our students are here in order to run and support the SDGs,
01:32to raise the awareness in the community about how we can be part of the sustainability.
01:38Along Qatar's coast, mangroves are doing the heavy lifting against climate change.
01:42As part of the world's largest mangrove relocation, Khamad Port has replanted over 36,000 trees, filtering salt, absorbing carbon, and anchoring shorelines,
01:53helping Qatar cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2030.
01:58We are Earthner at Qatar Foundation in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
02:03We are implementing, with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, some parts of their strategy,
02:10mainly into the wildlife conservation and restoration.
02:13And one of these projects is the mangrove restoration project.
02:17So this project is meant to develop resilience in the coastal zone by planting 40 hectares of mangroves.
02:24From mangroves to beaches, families are rolling up their sleeves to tackle Qatar's waste.
02:29Deep Qatar Conservation has run 550-plus cleanup drives, collecting over 230 tons of trash,
02:38from single-use plastics to everyday litter, all responsibly disposed of through recycling or managed landfills.
02:44More than 300 people participated on the different educational activities that we hosted during the week.
02:50We held two different cleanup drives in the desert with nothing but our bare hands.
02:55In addition to that, I did some school visits where we talked about the global and local impact of plastic pollution,
03:01focusing on what we can do to help mitigate the problem.
03:04Trash isn't just on beaches or in deserts. It accumulates everywhere.
03:09Enter e-waste.
03:11Electronics are everywhere. Phones, tablets, keyboards, cables.
03:15When they stop working, they can pile up fast, creating a serious waste problem.
03:20Qatar Foundation is collecting these devices, breaking them down and recycling the valuable materials inside.
03:31Electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste streams in the world.
03:35It has a lot of toxins in them, such as cadmium, arsenic and mercury, causing a lot of problems for the environment.
03:42What we're trying to do is we're trying to divert as much as waste from the landfill,
03:46and we're trying to support Qatar's circular economy as well.
03:51Circular action is taking over Qatar.
03:53The country is targeting 2 to 4 gigawatts of solar capacity by 2030
03:58and has already cut electricity and water consumption by around 20% in the last decade.
04:04This shift sets the business foundation for sustainability at large.
04:08We've got Qatar Foundation who have introduced the Clean Plate campaign
04:13within their restaurants and cafes in the whole of Education City,
04:17where they're asking people to just put whatever they know they're going to eat on their plate,
04:21because food waste is a huge issue and a huge challenge here in Qatar.
04:26We've seen, for example, in the hospitality sector,
04:28the hotels focusing on their sustainability initiatives,
04:31whether related to recycling, whether related to eliminating plastic within their operations.
04:38Qatar Sustainability Week has become a force for change,
04:42aligned with national targets and measurable metrics.
04:45Solar and other renewables are set to triple in Qatar's energy mix,
