00:13With food security always a hot topic, officials urge the public to do their share, keeping waste to a minimum and supporting local farmers so no grain goes to waste and everyone stays ahead of the curve in this report.
00:25Be Rice Ponsible. This is what the Department of Agriculture, or DA, is promoting as part of the celebration of National Rice Awareness Month.
00:35It emphasizes the importance of every grain of rice in our lives and culture as Filipinos.
00:41The Be Rice Ponsible campaign reminds everyone to be more mindful in consuming rice, respect the hard work of our farmers, and support local production.
00:49Included in the campaign is the abacada of responsible rice consumption.
00:53A for mixing adlai, corn, and sabao with meals.
00:57Ba, which means choosing more nutritious brown rice.
01:01Ka, which means avoiding rice wastage.
01:04And Da, which means choosing rice produced in the Philippines.
01:08Various activities are being held in various regions, from community lunches featuring local rice varieties,
01:14to rice planting events, cooking demonstrations, and the launching of programs to support farmers.
01:19Aside from local activities, Filipino rice is also gaining recognition worldwide.
01:25In fact, the rice variety NSICRC 218, or the Philippines' well-known Dinorado Rice Variety, bagged second place at the World Best Rice Award in Cambodia.
01:35The entry was submitted by the Philippine Rice Industry Stakeholders Movement, or PRISM, featuring rice developed by the Philippine Rice Research Institute.
02:04The quality of Dinorado Rice surpassed nearly 30 rice entries from different countries.
02:10This serves as proof that Philippine rice harvested by our local farmers remains world-class.
02:16Along with the celebration of National Rice Awareness Month, let us safeguard every grain and strengthen our support for local agriculture.
02:24This is Sharm Zespina from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
