00:00Kamusta Pepsters? Join me as Pep goes to BrainRx Philippines PressCon.
00:07BrainRx Philippines is a program that aims to teach people of all ages or labels to be better,
00:14faster when it comes to their cognitive skills that include attention, processing speed,
00:21memory, visual and auditory processing, logic, and reasoning.
00:25We arrived at the event where visitors were able to play games that put their cognitive skills to the test.
00:35Now let's listen to Ms. Joy S. Goh, BrainRx co-founder, as she explains what their training program is.
00:55It's not tutoring, it's not therapy, it's brain training.
01:02So our programs are backed by research.
01:04So why cognitive skills are important is because
01:08cognitive ability is the key mental quality needed to complete learning activities.
01:13It is the direct predictor of academic achievement.
01:18It's the most investigated, the most reliable predictive factor.
01:24We also heard the mom who shared her success story when she enrolled her daughter
01:29with a condition improved her cognitive skills after enrolling at BrainRx.
01:35She was diagnosed with autism as early as three years old.
01:39And from there on, we have bombarded her with a lot of therapies, a lot of interventions,
01:46anything that the deaf-fed or any doctors would prescribe us.
01:51So how to cope and how to help out about her condition, we did everything.
01:59So we were flueless what BrainRx was until we went to their facility,
02:05my husband and I, and then we agreed, okay, let's just go through the process,
02:10and then let's just see if there will be a result.
02:13The confidence was there.
02:16She eventually shined.
02:21It gave us hope as parents that she can be limitless.
02:27Regardless of her disability, she is limitless.
02:32Pep also talked to Ms. Mel Suwa, BrainRx Philippines co-founder,
02:39to elaborate more of the training program that they offer.
02:42We both had a vision that we need to work on improving or uplifting or upskilling
02:50the students that we have today and improving their learning power.
02:53Because if you don't have strong cognitive skills, no matter what kind of tutoring you do,
03:00or how much content you put or try to squeeze in, it's kind of hard.
03:04Because you can't absorb as fast, you're not able to remember things, you're not focused about it.
03:11So the driving force is really to upskill every student so that learning can be easier, better, and faster.
03:18Yes, that's the whole concept of neuroplasticity, and science has proven it.
03:22Where our brain can change, we're not fixed for life.
03:25And that's the beauty of our brains.
03:27We can actually improve, we can move from step one to step two, step three to three,
03:31as long as we get the right environment, the right coaching, and we learn new things.
03:37And the thing is, what we see is always just the tip of the iceberg.
03:42You know, those are just the tip of the iceberg observations.
03:50But has anyone really looked at why they're avoiding such things?
03:54Why are they labeled lazy? Why are they not focused? Why are they not?
03:59So yung why is very critical.
04:01If the root cause is because, eh mahina ang memory niya eh, then we work on improving the memory.
04:07Kung if mahina ang attention niya, then we work on improving the attention.
04:11Just basically two things. One is a cognitive skills assessment.
04:14So students can get a glimpse, or parents can get a glimpse of what is the baseline strengths
04:21and weaknesses of the child for attention, memory, processing speed, logic, auditory, and visual processing.
04:27These are basically the skills we need for learning or any activity we do in life.
04:32And second is the brain training program itself.
04:35So we actually engage with students to enhance, to strengthen those skills through mental exercises one-on-one.
04:44This is not tutoring. It's non-academic. We're not really teaching academics.
04:47If you come to our center, you'll see that our games or our exercises, our mental exercises are mostly game-like.
04:55So it's fun and non-academic at the same time, which keeps the students engaged.
04:58We cater to a lot of kids and adults alike.
05:03So we have kids as young as four and a half years old and adults as old as 88 years old.
05:09We have professionals, senior citizens. We've also had kids from kindergarten, homeschooled kids.
05:16We've got kids with above average doing well in school and kids that are not doing so well in school,
05:22some with labels, some without labels. So it's a wide range of cases that we've had.
05:28So the brain, after all, is a muscle that needs exercise. So if you stop exercising,
05:34you might lose certain functions that used to be easy before.
05:40Before the event ended, we were given a tour of their center, located in BGC.
05:49That's it for now, Pepsters! Bye!
