01:54so that we are able to understand as a society, as a country, where all we are still to achieve true or real empowerment of women, real change in the lives of all women and of course the larger society.
02:09You see over a period of time our country since independence began to grant rights to women to vote, all adult women to vote and slowly slowly through as we know the 73rd amendment, 74th amendment of the constitution, even local bodies like you know the panchayats etc were set up and women were even ascribed certain kinds of political leadership roles within the system, administrative roles within the system.
02:35But the point is that you know even though women seem to be part of formal politics both in terms of you know parliamentarians, members of Vidhan Sabha's, important people in political parties, but I mean it's not just the fact that their numbers remain relatively low compared to other countries,
02:53but even when they seem to be part of the legislature or the executive or the judiciary, whatever that percentage is, it doesn't necessarily reflect that all women in the country are necessarily empowered, are being able to live a life of equality, a life of liberty and have dignified livelihoods.
03:13In fact we see that this is precisely why you know the Indian Association for Women's Studies in collaboration with Dehrampal University is facilitating discussion, analysis, research on gender and politics because there is still so much yet to change.
03:27We are already aware that the condition of women in our country is not improving. Even by the international records, international reports, the gender gap is widening. So we need to do more work on this. As far as the policies, policies will not come until and unless research is done in this area.
03:50The current shortcomings and outcomes are not going to be the same. We also don't have the same person in the world. We don't have the same person in the world without the media,
03:59or even the government. We are still in the same way. We have to do more political stories. And we are also inspired by young people to join the people in the world.
