The mother was definitely doing too much. She would’ve been happier with a divorce yet she chose misery and forced her daughter into misery with her. And hate to defend the husband infidelity and invalid the wife feelings but what the husband did wasn’t even that bad ( it could have been solved with a honest conversation or divorce) he didn’t neglect or humiliate his daughter she did. She was the villain she accused him of being she was very hypocritical
I think her mother was using crazy as an excuse to abuse and punish her for what her father did. sometimes she wasn’t pretending like that restaurant scene but when the father mother and daughter was in that office or the car scene after that she was definitely pretending just so she can say those hurtful words to her daughter without consequences. I also noticed the daughter knows when her mother having a episode or not and she give her mother the same pretend crazy back
