01:00It was a slow start for the Knicks with a new coach and a new offense but Doris they have found a groove during this seven game homestand right now playing as well as anybody in the NBA offensively.
01:10All of the things Mike Brown envisions for an offensive come into focus. Five straight games where they had 30 assists. Heavy emphasis on the three point volume. In fact a franchise record 55 threes attempted in the last game.
01:40Yes he's still got some of the best footwork in the entire league but he's playing without the basketball and flourishing because of it. Again notice the spacing. Two to the ball get off it quickly. That coveted three point shot. They are hitting 130 points with regularity and look at where the emphasis is. 42 percent of their points coming from three point range. You have to love their shot profile.
02:10There were people that thought Orlando would contend for the Eastern Conference crowd. A slow start. Five and six but they have great young talent led by Paolo Banqueiro.
02:18We need a little patience. This still remains a young group and Paolo is still one of the most dynamic young guys in the league. 6'10", 250 pounds of nothing but downhill trouble. He's second in the league in free throws made. But listen he's absorbing two and three defenders and he continues to process his spots and his reads.
02:36He's celebrating his 23rd birthday tonight here at MSG. And with more on the magic. Let's check in with Angel.
02:43Well Dave one of the biggest questions surrounding the magic coming into this season was how they can generate more offense. So if we can just take a trip back to the last game where Desmond Bain was able to knock down the game winning three.
02:53And Coach Malone told me that should be the biggest indicator of how important he is to our offense. He said we know how good he is. The league knows how good he is.
03:02This shot that went down for him was his first three of the game. He finished one for six. He said that shot reminded him of how good he is. He said yes he may have some woes throughout this season. However the expectation for him does not change. They want him to be aggressive every single time he touches the ball.
03:20Definitely been an adjustment this year for Bain. It's also been an adjustment for Jalen Suggs coming off a knee injury last year. He'll join Angel when we come back. It's the Knicks and the Magic from Madison Square Garden.
03:32We're at Madison Square Garden for the Knicks and the Magic. And earlier Angel Gray caught up with Magic guard Jalen Suggs.
03:54Thanks Dave. Well Jalen first of all it's just great to see you back on the floor and you're putting up some of the best numbers in your career.
03:59So I'm curious just what your mindset has been coming into this year and how you had to be different for this team.
04:05Yeah I think it started off with accepting the responsibility that came with being a point guard this year for this squad.
04:10Knowing the moves that we made in the offseason. The people that we brought in. Bain. Tyus.
04:15And then the mindset that the front office was talking about they were in. Getting ready to win.
04:18Which is something that made me very excited. And a lot easier to lock in.
04:22So really just put my mind and my spirit in a great place to come in. Be a leader each and every day.
04:27You know not take no nights off. And you know help get us to where we need to be.
04:30And as this team's floor general you're facing a Knicks team that is very aggressive on both sides of the ball.
04:35What are some things that you guys have to secure and execute in order to secure the win?
04:40I think taking care of the ball being the main focus.
04:42You know you come in a hostile environment on the road.
04:45You never want to give teams free possessions to go score and go on runs.
04:48So I think that'll be the start of it tonight. Something that we've been harping on already.
04:51So it'll be fun to see how we come out and execute that.
04:54But also just playing with a lot of pace. Playing with a lot of energy.
04:56Understanding they're coming off a back-to-back.
04:58You know we want to be the ones that throw the first punch.
05:00Come out and initiate. You know set the tempo. The pace of the game.
05:03And I think that'll carry us along.
05:04So really just having fun. You know we're in MSG tonight.
05:07Thanks so much for your time. Good luck tonight.
05:08Thank you.
05:11Alright Angel. Thanks for watching NBA Courtside.
05:14It's the Knicks and Magic coming up after this break.
05:18It's the Knicks and the Magic from New York City.
05:22The Knicks trying to win their sixth consecutive game.
05:26All here at MSG.
05:30And our starting lineup is delivered by Taco Bell.
05:32The Knicks played last night. They beat Memphis.
05:34Mitchell Robinson did not play in that game.
05:37He will go tonight in the second of a back-to-back.
05:40And will get the start.
05:40And he will defend Vankero.
05:42Celebrating his 23rd birthday.
05:44Bain, Suggs, Wagner, and Cardi.
05:47The other starters for Orlando.
05:48And an OB, Bridges, Brunson, and Cat join Robinson.
05:52This is game six of a seven-game homestand.
06:04The Knicks will play the Heat on Friday and then head out of town for five straight.
06:08Orlando, with a quick trip to New York City, will head home to face the Nets in Florida on Friday.
06:15And a great doubleheader for you again tonight.
06:26The Lakers in Oklahoma City up next.
06:28Two of the hottest teams in the West.
06:31But first, a battle in the East between the Knicks and Magic and Orlando.
06:35We'll start with it.
06:40Mitchell Robinson absorbing the Palo matchup.
06:43Wendell Carter at the foul line.
06:47Here's Suggs for three.
06:49Orlando, one of the worst three-point shooting teams again this year in the NBA.
06:56They're 29th in May threes at 10.
06:59The Knicks are tied for first in May threes at 18.
07:07Here's Brunson with Suggs on his hip.
07:09It's an excellent matchup.
07:10And Suggs is a tenacious defender.
07:12But Brunson, not surprisingly, wins that one down low.
07:16Bancurro with a drive and kick.
07:25Corner three, Carter off target.
07:27Orlando 0 for 2 from behind the arc to start.
07:31Wagner couldn't get the defensive rebound.
07:33He's wearing a mask.
07:34Suffered a broken nose last night.
07:35Here he is in transition.
07:38And Suggs gets the layup.
07:39Nice pass by Wagner.
07:40But this is the presence of Suggs.
07:42You see it immediately in how he changes the defense for Orlando.
07:47As a point-of-attack defender that time in a passing lane, he's just so tenacious.
07:51The knee injury that cost him about half of last season.
07:55Did not play Monday for Orlando.
07:58Towns from the corner, no.
07:59Career-low shooting numbers for Towns early in the season.
08:02Bancurro drives and foul.
08:06He's great at getting to the foul line.
08:08Second in the NBA in made free throws.
08:11282 makes.
08:12He's averaging a shade under ten attempts.
08:15Like size and skill.
08:19One of the things they're challenging him with this year is trying to make quicker decisions.
08:23But no decision to be made there.
08:25There's one defender in front of you.
08:27He's smaller than you.
08:28Go attack the body.
08:29You mentioned size.
08:31Now we're here night after night watching these guys go up and down the floor.
08:35And there's some guys that on TV, you're not sure how big they are until you're in person.
08:41Every time we do an Orlando game and you see Paulo Bancurro, he stands out as to how big and strong he is.
08:48He's 6'10", 250 pounds of incredible basketball skill.
08:52The one thing he's got to get better at is consistently making his jump shot.
08:57He told us a short time ago tonight.
09:00He said, I know my percentages don't look good, but I feel like that's an aspect of my game that is really coming along.
09:06We'll see tonight.
09:07They're going to give him a cushion, that's for sure.
09:09Just 25% from deep on the year.
09:1232% last year.
09:14He was an all-star two seasons ago.
09:16Bronson got bumped.
09:18And he'll go to the line.
09:20First free throw is coming up for the Knicks.
09:21As Suggs commits the foul.
09:31Jalen Bronson, through 10 games, is averaging close to 28 points per game.
09:35It's his best ever through 10 games.
09:38Had 32 points last night and 10 assists.
09:42But it's coming differently than it did a year ago.
09:44I mean, he's getting many more catch-and-shoot opportunities.
09:48He's 17 for 32 from the three-point line catch-and-shoot.
09:52The space he's getting there.
09:54He's not using the floater as much.
09:56He's not in pick-and-roll constantly.
09:58And one of the things Mike Brown said about that is, I don't want people to sit on him in pick-and-roll.
10:03I want him moving around.
10:05It's harder for people to be physical with him constantly.
10:08And he takes some of this from Steph Curry, right?
10:11Having been an assistant for Steve Kerr and watching the way Steph can play on or off the basketball.
10:17It preserves Bronson throughout the game and throughout the season.
10:21Not taking all those extra hits on floaters and off pick-and-roll as Wagner is fouled.
10:25And he'll go to the line.
10:31You can tell that mask is bugging him.
10:33Watching him warm up, he was fiddling with it constantly.
10:35But this guy is so skilled.
10:39Great concentration coming off the big summer with the German national team.
10:44Just love this young man's approach.
10:47And he takes this game incredibly seriously.
10:50That nose doesn't look good, though, Dave Pasch.
10:52No, he got elbowed two nights ago, but has to wear the mask.
10:57He was fiddling with it pregame as they get Robinson for the foul.
11:00Knick fans didn't like the call, but Mike Brown was going to challenge it that early in the game.
11:05Well, if it's bothering his sight that much or he's got to take it off for free throws,
11:16how are you going to shoot in a game with it when you can't take it off?
11:19Orlando 4-4 at the line.
11:26They miss some free throws down the stretch on Monday.
11:28Van Carrel with the swat on Brunson.
11:32Here's Bain on the attack.
11:34Gets two at the rim.
11:37And an early timeout by Mike Brown.
11:39Good start on the road here in New York for the Magic.
11:42The NBA on ESPN is presented all season long by State Farm.
11:53Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.
11:56And in part by Lincoln.
11:58Share a little light this holiday season during the Lincoln wish list.
12:01Let's take a look at who is ruling the court.
12:04Brought to you by Burger King.
12:06And of course, Paolo Van Carrel, the birthday boy for today,
12:09is hoping that he can be the king of this court at MSG.
12:12He said, who doesn't want to win at the Garden?
12:14Of course, he said, I was able to be serenaded by a couple of teammates
12:18in Jace Richardson and Noah Pinda.
12:20But he wants this team to continue to trend in the right direction.
12:24Dorshu mentioned the slow start from him.
12:26But I really do believe he just needed to hit his birthday mud.
12:29He is shooting 50% from the field.
12:31And he has to continue to play well on the road.
12:33He's had 20 or more points in all five of the road games.
12:37Interesting that the two names he brought up that serenaded him are rookies.
12:41I wonder if that was rookie hazing.
12:42Hey, make those guys go sing him happy birthday.
12:47Jalen Brunson with six points.
12:49So he's got all of New York's total.
12:50Meanwhile, Bain able to get to the cup for the second straight possession.
12:53Yeah, I think people associate Desmond Bain with just, you know, three-point shooting.
12:57He is dangerous.
12:58I know his numbers don't reflect that yet.
13:01But he is a downhill driver.
13:03Big body.
13:04Good burst.
13:06Reach and foul on Bogner.
13:09That's his first and the second on Orlando.
13:11It's amazing how impatient people are.
13:14Like, did the Magic play well in their first five games?
13:16Absolutely not.
13:17They did not.
13:18And to a man, they'd admit that.
13:20But when you think about a season ago, Paolo, Franz, and Suggs, for Jamal Mosley, that's
13:25his top three.
13:27They played a total of 97 minutes together.
13:29Now you add Bain.
13:30You add Tyus Jones.
13:31Like, can we have five minutes of patience for a team to put itself together?
13:36They were five and six last year.
13:38They figured it out.
13:39They navigated through injuries.
13:41Ended up making the playoffs for the second straight year.
13:43Expectations higher, though, this season.
13:45We've got a coach that's challenged by the Magic.
13:47Back in a moment.
13:48Orlando coach Jamal Mosley.
13:50Franz Bogner got the ball first on the knockaway.
13:55So it's Orlando ball.
13:56They have scored in their last five trips.
13:58And they lead the New York Knicks by four.
14:01Three minutes gone by here in the first.
14:07Bogner penetrating, spinning, putting it up, and knocking it down for 15.
14:11Four points for Bogner.
14:17He's averaging 22 per game.
14:20Brunson with Suggs on his hip.
14:23And an OB coming off a one-for-ten shooting night against Memphis yesterday.
14:29He had been shooting better than 42% from three on the year prior to last night.
14:33And Carroll.
14:39Now you've got Bogner with the matchup against Brunson that Bogner wants.
14:45Towns coming over to help.
14:46So is Bridges.
14:47That leaves Bain in the corner.
14:48And he buries a three.
14:49But that's about decision-making that begins with Paolo.
14:53Once the switch was made defensively and the matchup was Brunson on Bogner,
14:57he knew that was the area they needed to attack.
15:00Now did Bogner get the shot?
15:01No.
15:02You had heavy help come in.
15:03And an OB's pass knocked away by Bain Caro.
15:10Bain, three of three shooting so far, seven points.
15:14Coming off that game-winning three, two nights ago to beat the Blazers.
15:17That one in and out.
15:19Out of bounds.
15:22And it's going to stay with the magic.
15:24Well, you love to see Bain this aggressive.
15:28So, again, you're one-on-one.
15:30Look at the heavy help come in.
15:31They know Jalen Brunson needs it.
15:32You stay spaced in the corner.
15:34Right read by both Bogner and Paolo initially.
15:38Bain just 28% from three to start this season.
15:41A career low.
15:42Suggs in and out on the triple try.
15:45And it's Nick Ball.
15:47Again, Brunson the only Nick to score here.
15:50And they're going to say a foul on the floor as he got bumped on the baseline.
15:57Bogner picking up the foul.
15:59His first and the second on the magic.
16:01So, the New York Knicks, who have, and I understand it was a softer schedule, been putting up 40-point quarters consistently, 130 points.
16:12Well, welcome to the magic defense, which maybe is finding its teeth for the first time all season.
16:17It's a great point, Doris.
16:18Three straight games over 130.
16:20That is a franchise record for the Knicks.
16:23They're number two in the league in offense.
16:25Brunson driving.
16:28Finds Shamit on the spot, and the three goes.
16:30That's been one of the key areas for the New York Knicks.
16:36The number of times they're getting great looks from the corner three.
16:40Bogner likes this match.
16:41A mismatch on the other end, but he couldn't get the bucket.
16:43Rebound Towns.
16:44Towns, nice pass to a cutting bridges.
16:53Bogner with the block.
16:56Ben Carroll lost it, trying to pass to the corner.
17:00Magic turnovers have been a big problem this year.
17:02Brunson threw contact, missed it, and Carter with the board.
17:09Suggs catches the skip, fires, and miss a three.
17:13Orlando, one of five from behind the arc.
17:15Suggs over three.
17:16You can see, though, the pace, right?
17:17Paolo turns it over.
17:19Their pace, they're trying to get up the floor much quicker, Orlando.
17:23Now Towns putting it on the floor.
17:30Towns trying to get free from Carter.
17:32Carter leans in.
17:33Maybe created the contact.
17:35No whistle either way.
17:36Towns wanted a defensive foul.
17:38The basket counts, and it's five straight points for New York.
17:41Well, I thought that might draw a whistle, Dave Bash.
17:45Surprised there wasn't something.
17:49Orlando 0 for its last four after making five in a row.
17:52Here's Ben Carroll from mid-range.
17:54In and out.
17:55That's his first field goal attempt.
17:58He has two points coming at the line.
18:00Bridge is on the attack.
18:01Falling away.
18:02It's good.
18:02Well, he's having a heck of a year, Mikel Bridges.
18:07On both ends of the floor.
18:16Wagner using the Carter screen.
18:17Gets into the paint, fires to the corner.
18:23Good luck.
18:23Bain can't knock it down, though.
18:25Orlando 1 of 6 from out there.
18:27Well, it just, that's a good shot creation, right?
18:30You make the right read of your bronze.
18:32You're just not making anything.
18:33Shammott misfire.
18:34Shammott misfire.
18:35Rebound Brunson.
18:36Shammott will try again.
18:37No good again.
18:38Rebound Bancaro.
18:39Quick outlet for Suggs.
18:42The Knicks get five men back, though.
18:43Six straight misses for the Magic.
18:47Great D by Ananobi on Bancaro, but cleaning it up inside is Carter.
18:51Tremendous.
18:52OJ just, the ability to control his body.
18:54Goes straight up.
18:56Contest without fouling.
18:57That is special defensively.
19:00Brunson attacking Suggs and draws the foul.
19:03So far, Brunson is winning that matchup, continuing to get to the line.
19:07This will be his second trip to the stripe.
19:09He's got six points.
19:10He's obviously still going to have plenty of opportunity.
19:14And any time he's middle of the floor one-on-one, he's going to create an angle.
19:18He understands how to draw contact.
19:23Second on Suggs.
19:27He'll get a breather.
19:29We'll see who they throw next at Jalen Brunson.
19:3586% on the season at the line, a career best.
19:38Take a look at our national TV schedule.
19:41Brought to you by ESPN Bet, the official sportsbook of ESPN.
19:45NBA TV tomorrow night.
19:46It's Toronto and Cleveland.
19:48Prime video Friday.
19:49Heat at the Knicks.
19:50Warriors in San Antonio.
19:52NBA TV Saturday.
19:54Memphis, Cleveland.
19:54Lakers at Milwaukee.
19:56For more, go to NBA.com or visit the NBA app.
19:59Wonder if that troublesome knee of Giannis Antetokounmpo becomes problematic.
20:03He is having an MVP-type season.
20:06Not going tonight for the Bucs.
20:12Brunson got that one, so he's 4-4 and has eight points.
20:15The Knicks back with him, two, four and a half to go here in the first.
20:17He has been the guy to draw all three fouls on Orlando at this one.
20:23Two-time All-Star, two-time second-team All-NBA, Jalen Brunson.
20:29Anthony Black checks into the game to run the point.
20:31Tristan Da Silva on the floor now as well.
20:36Shot clock down to two.
20:37Black will put it up, and the three is good.
20:40They're creating those opportunities from three, Dave.
20:43That's another good look.
20:45They're now two for seven.
20:46Good defense tie as Jones got the steal.
20:48Been a struggle for Jones so far in his first year with the Magic.
20:57Gets past Shamit, the floater.
20:59Front rim, though, and cleared by Towns.
21:02Five rebounds for Towns, just one basket.
21:05Working on Bataze.
21:10Now Bridges stops at the elbow, and the pass over the top with Towns.
21:14He maybe mistimed his jump.
21:17And Brunson trying to save it by throwing it off of Black does.
21:21Six on the shot clock for the Knicks.
21:23I think, are they going to get Black for a foul here?
21:25I think they are, yeah.
21:27A little push.
21:28That's his first foul.
21:29And the fourth on Orlando.
21:31Well, Jalen tracks down what is an intended save by Carl Anthony Towns,
21:40and I think it's the right hand.
21:42Now, Jalen sells that.
21:44There's not a ton there.
21:45Not much.
21:51Brunson around the Robinson screen.
21:53Fires a three.
21:55Jalen Brunson off to a hot start.
21:57He leads the NBA in first quarter points,
22:00and he's got 11 already.
22:06Knicks back within two.
22:08Vankera with a jab step.
22:10Doesn't want the three.
22:11Instead drives on Hart.
22:14Bataze with a rebound.
22:15Corner three.
22:16Black off target.
22:24Run some of the long baseball pass to Hart.
22:26Hart keeps the pivot foot down.
22:30The no-look pass intercepted by Jones.
22:34Jones all the way.
22:36Rejected by Hart.
22:41Now Black into two Knicks.
22:43De Silva.
22:47Got a three.
22:48I like this young man's game.
22:50De Silva can shoot it.
22:51He can put it on the deck.
22:53Still very young.
22:55Second year out of Colorado.
22:57Was a first-round pick.
22:5818th overall in 24.
23:00There ain't two minutes to go here in the first.
23:04Orlando leading by five.
23:07Jalen Brunson has scored or assisted on 14 of the Knick points so far.
23:12And now a foul called here.
23:14It's going to be on track.
23:16Yeah.
23:16He was working a little dribble handoff, a big part of the Knicks offense.
23:20But the way he turns his body at the end here is what caused it.
23:26First foul on Hart.
23:29And an OB and Deuce McBride check in.
23:33Shamit will go to the bench along with Bridges.
23:36Six turnovers for the Knicks.
23:37Six field goals.
23:39You touched on that Orlando defense.
23:41We talked with Jamal Mosley before the game.
23:44Their rating isn't great.
23:45Middle of the pack.
23:46But he said we're coming on.
23:47Yeah, and I think obviously they've put a lot of emphasis on their offense.
23:52Trying to play with more pace.
23:53Quicker decision-making across the board.
23:56Good defense by Robinson.
23:58Betase trying to strong-arm it.
24:00And he's able to power that one home in a foul.
24:02A chance at a three-point play.
24:06Second foul on Robinson.
24:07We'll keep an eye on that.
24:14You got Mitchell Robinson there.
24:16You better get him up and off the speed.
24:18Tremendous shot blocker.
24:19Tremendous rebounder.
24:21But great up fake.
24:23Sells it for Goga.
24:25A chance at a three-point play for Betase.
24:30New York native Jonathan Isaac just checked in to the game.
24:34Giving VanCaro a rest here at the end of the quarter.
24:36Neither of these teams is getting a whole lot of offensive punch and productivity from their benches.
24:44Right now, nine bench points, though, for Orlando.
24:47Just three for the Knicks.
24:48A drive working the pick and roll with Robinson will keep the dribble.
24:59Stops, pops, rainbow in and out.
25:02Josh Hart doing what he does best.
25:04Getting to the rim and getting an offensive rebound.
25:07Deflected out of bounds by De Silva will stay here.
25:10He had a clean look at the bucket.
25:13I mean, he didn't even look at it.
25:16He did a great job getting to the offensive glass.
25:18But I like when he's aggressive around the rim.
25:22Even though the numbers are better for Hart the last week, still feels like he's finding his way.
25:26His role's different.
25:27He's coming off the bench.
25:28Started every game last year that he played.
25:31Robinson offensive rebound off the OG miss.
25:33Ananobi's driving at Isaac.
25:38And a foul is committed that will send Ananobi to the line for two.
25:43How many fouls we got in this quarter?
25:45That's five now in the Magic.
25:47And four on the Knicks.
25:50Both teams with a bonus.
25:52First point of the game for Ananobi.

26:13They pass Doris Burke and Angel Gray here in New York.
26:16Don't forget, coming up next is the Lakers in Oklahoma City.
26:18The Thunder 11-1 on the season.
26:21The Lakers are off to a hot start as well.
26:23They're 8-3.
26:25Orlando 5-6.
26:27The Knicks 7-3.
26:28Winners of five in a row.
26:30They trail by six, though.
26:31Final minute of the first as Isaac Hoist can miss a three.
26:34Another quality look at three.
26:36I mean, we've seen multiple times where they've touched the paint with their driving
26:39and sprayed a three and they can't make a shot.
26:42And this is where it could be a math problem.
26:45Right?
26:45They've done a good job defensively.
26:4723 points given up.
26:48But they've had some good looks from three.
26:50And it's just a three-point game, Orlando.
26:53First points of the game for McBride.
26:58New York back within three.
26:59Shot clock down to seven for the Magic.
27:02Isaac trying to blow by Hart and got pushed.
27:06No basket.
27:07It didn't count.
27:08But it will send Isaac to the line.
27:13The second foul on Hart.
27:14You talk about a guy who has had his career impacted by injuries coming out of Florida State with that size of defensive skill set he brought to the league.
27:27But two consecutive seasons he doesn't play because of the knee injury.
27:32And if he could just string together, you know, a couple healthy seasons, there's basketball skill there.
27:40And they need him.
27:41You just touched on the issues with the bench.
27:43They need the rebounding and some scoring punch if he can provide that.
27:53Now in his ninth season, worn in the Bronx.
27:57I can't see these uniforms without thinking of Shaq in one of these.
28:03I actually was opening.
28:06I'm not a card collector, but I did it yesterday.
28:09And I opened a package with Shaq in those uniques.
28:13I think Shaq will sign it for you if you want.
28:15I don't think I get to keep it.
28:17I don't want to speak for him, but I'm guessing for you he would.
28:22But a five-second difference between the game and shot clocks.
28:24Brunson misses inside.
28:26A rare miss for him at point-blank range.
28:29Five seconds to go in the quarter.
28:31Black got it to go off the window on the step through.
28:35He just feels like he approaches the game with more physicality.
28:40Here's Hart.
28:41One second left.
28:43Good contest by Isaac.
28:45The three off the mark.
28:47And the quarter comes to an end.
28:48A 30-point first quarter for the Magic.
28:51Just an excellent defensive quarter.
28:54Slowing the Knicks, who've been extremely hot down.
28:56And Mr. Bain's starting to enter the party.
29:03You buy new balance, Desmond.
29:05Earlier today, you told me that you guys had to punch first.
29:07How would you assess how your team has been able to do that,
29:10but also how you sustain that level of intensity?
29:12I think we're doing a pretty good job.
29:14Got to continue to keep them off the boards.
29:16Limit our fouls.
29:18But I like our pace, and I like the way we're playing early.
29:21Jalen Brunson with 11 of their first 18 points.
29:24Is there any way that you can continue to contain him going forward?
29:27I mean, good score.
29:28I mean, we got to do a better job just communicating.
29:31Like I said, bringing the fight to him.
29:33We better throughout the rest of the game.
29:34I think that's been, Dave.
29:37As Doris mentioned, Angel Brunson kept them from being down 15 after the first quarter.
29:45There's a foul on McBride.
29:46He got tangled up with Carter.
29:47That's his first personal.
29:51Knicks only shot 37% for the floor.
29:55Interesting lineup here for the Knicks.
29:57Yabusele and Towns playing together in the front court.
30:02With a couple of smaller guards, McBride and Clarkson.
30:07Robinson has two fouls for the Knicks.
30:10Black goes to the left-hand scoop.
30:12Carter with the offensive rebound.
30:13He missed the stick back.
30:15Then stripped by Yabusele.
30:16Bodies hit the floor.
30:18And Carter, they're out of there with it.
30:21Black underneath has it picked off.
30:23Clarkson to the corner.
30:30Yabusele.
30:31A much-needed three for him.
30:33He's really been struggling in his first year with the Knicks.
30:36And you touched on this earlier in the game.
30:39The significant problems with turnovers for Orlando.
30:43That's one where a young player in black.
30:45You have 14 seconds.
30:47You're feeling the pressure of trying to do something immediately.
30:50Reset your offense.
30:51And instead, you give up a three down the other end.
30:54Big swing.
30:5713 points off turnovers now for the Knicks.
31:00Wagner takes it away from Towns.
31:05Black through the lane.
31:07Maybe traveled.
31:10Carter did travel.
31:11On the pump thing.
31:12Another Orlando turnover.
31:16And Jamal, a couple of press conferences ago,
31:19was as angry in a postgame as I've ever seen him.
31:23He's been around the lead a long time.
31:25He's seen so many things.
31:26But his frustration with the turnovers that are self-inflicted wounds
31:30that you've guarded so well thus far.
31:35But you can't.
31:36This is a Knicks team that will score the basketball eventually.
31:39You're giving possessions away that will come back to haunt you.
31:43Mosley in his fifth season with the Magic.
31:45Long-time NBA assistant.
31:47Worked for Mike Brown in Cleveland.
31:48In fact, Mosley told us before the game,
31:50Brown is his mentor.
31:51Looks up to him as much as anybody in the NBA.
31:55Isaac rebounds.
31:56The McBride miss.
31:58Knicks 4 of 12 from 3.
31:59Orlando 3 of 10.
32:00Entry pass.
32:01Carter deep.
32:03Tried to fire it out.
32:04And another bad pass in turnover.
32:12Black with a great defensive play to get the deflection there.
32:17Bain racing up the court.
32:19Really aggressive going to the basket tonight.
32:21And now he'll go to the free throw line.
32:26Second foul on the Knicks here in the quarter.
32:28It's on Clarkson.
32:30His first.
32:30And this is the value of a Desmond Bain is that he can either take it off the window or a quick outlet and get them into the pace they want.
32:40And if you're offensively challenged and you can push the pace and either score in transition or semi-transition, take some of the pressure off.
32:49Orlando got him from Memphis in the offseason for Cole Anthony, KCP, and four first-run draft picks.
32:57They thought the acquisition of Bain would put them over the edge because of the three-point shooting.
33:02It's been a transition phase for Bain, but playing well here tonight.
33:08He's got nine points in eight minutes.
33:14Orlando back up six.
33:16Trying to get back to 500.
33:18Carl Anthony Towns with the basket.
33:21Able to score that one over the outstretched arm of Isaac.
33:23Bain again driving his pass way off the mark at the backboard, but it pinballs out to Carter.
33:32Wagner had position on the smaller Clarkson, and it rolls home.
33:36Great look from Carter.
33:38If you're going to guard Brown small, he's going to get to immediate post-up position.
33:44That's six points now for Wagner.
33:46It's the eighth pick in the 2021 draft.
33:56Orlando team built through the draft.
33:58Almost all of their key players were high first-round picks the last three, four seasons.
34:03Towns, boy, a lot of contact.
34:05Wow.
34:07I'd like to see that again.
34:08I thought he was shooting three throws there.
34:11Bain again drives.
34:12This time flips it up at the left, and it drops Bain in double figure.
34:15They've had nothing for him.
34:17When he has decided to push the pace in transition, he's attacking one defender in front of him.
34:22A lot of contact between Isaac and Towns right now.
34:26Brooks in the lane.
34:28Towns over the top trying to get the rebound, and then he knocks Isaac to the ground.
34:33And Towns doesn't like the call from Courtney Kirkland.
34:35Got to be careful here.
34:36This is visible frustration for a lot of contact happening.
34:42And one of my favorite things about officials at this level is how patient they are with the whistle.
34:49So, if anything there, I mean, the foul was early, but I think you could go non-whistle.
34:55But this is an over-the-back or a hold.
34:58It's got to be one.
34:58But that matchup right now, there's a ton of physicality, and Carl Anthony Towns very frustrated, still pleading with Courtney Kirkland.
35:09And the reason for the free throw was not a technical.
35:11It was a transition take foul.
35:12That's a rarity that you see that being called a transition take foul.
35:16Normally, when you see a transition take foul, it's a guy trying to stop a breakaway in the backcourt.
35:22So, I just want to, your opinion on that drive, right?
35:25I'm with you.
35:26I think you could call the first foul, but if not, it was...
35:29It was nothing, yeah.
35:32Eight turnovers and just three assists for the Knicks.
35:34The offense, which had been as good as any in the NBA the last two weeks, has sputtered here tonight early in the second quarter with just 28 points.
35:45Trailing by nine, four minutes into the second quarter.
35:52Black gets a good look.
35:54Can't knock it down.
35:55And Bain Carroll with the offensive rebound.
35:57And he gets to put back his first made basket of the night.
36:01I love that play, though.
36:02It's Bain and Paolo in a pick and roll with Black in the strong side corner.
36:06And that is what frees Paolo to go...
36:08He's rolling anyway, so he's going to be there for an offensive rebound.
36:12Largest lead for the Magic 11.
36:14Another Knick turnover.
36:17That's eight now against just three assists.
36:20Make that nine turnovers.
36:24Black goes away from the screen, drives.
36:27His pass was tipped.
36:29It appeared by the Knicks.
36:30And so the officials will discuss.
36:36And it will stay with the Magic.
36:3912 on the shot clock.
36:41That's good because the end of that bench was about to lose their minds.
36:44Yes.
36:44So is Jamal Mosley.
36:49As we just showed you.
36:51Wagner.
36:53Beautiful shot by Franz Wagner.
36:55He's got eight.
36:56Listen, we've seen him in the mid-range.
36:58He shot the three well this year.
37:00He's an excellent post-up player.
37:02And a foul called as Bain bumps Britches on the drive.
37:09That is Bain's first.
37:10And the first on Orlando here in the quarter.
37:12And he's just got the defender seal topside.
37:16Creative around the bucket.
37:18So much to this young man's game.
37:23Averaged 24 points per game last year.
37:27Around 22 through the first 11 games.
37:29And eight points tonight to go with three assists.
37:31McBride sets his feet and is off the heel on the triple try.
37:35And it's magic ball.
37:40Just four offensive rebounds for the Knicks.
37:43They're missing shots.
37:44They're turning the ball over.
37:45And they're not getting second chance opportunities.
37:48But Orlando gives it right back to him.
37:49Coughing it up on the other end.
37:52Clarkson pulls up for three.
37:54One and done again for New York.
37:58Bain.
37:58Boy, I thought he got tripped by Clarkson.
38:02They're saying incidental contact and no foul.
38:05Hart on the other end.
38:06Reverse layup is good.
38:07And they call the foul there on Wagner.
38:09A chance at a three-point play.
38:12And Hart shaken up.
38:13Took a shot to the face.
38:15Second foul on Wagner.
38:17Wagner upset with himself.
38:26This is Josh at his absolute best.
38:31Wednesday presented by State Farm.
38:33Up next, Luka Doncic.
38:34If he qualified, he hasn't played enough games yet.
38:37That would be leading the league in scoring right there.
38:3937 points per game.
38:42Fifth most through the first seven games for a player in NBA history.
38:45They take on the Thunder next on ESPN.
38:48And he's only averaging nine and a half rebounds and nine assists with those 37 points.
38:53The Lakers off to a great start.
38:54LeBron James hasn't even played yet.
38:57Austin Reeves has been terrific as well for the Lakers.
39:01Jackson Hayes has played well thus far through the season.
39:04Rui Hachimura is doing a lot of good things for the Lakers.
39:08It's going to be one heck of a game after us, Dave Pasch.
39:12The Thunder look as good, if not better, than they did last year, which is remarkable considering they're not at full strength yet.
39:18Jalen Williams, an all-star, all-NBA, hasn't even played yet.
39:22And they got the best record in the league.
39:25Bain on the drive.
39:26Out to Wagner.
39:28He'll try a three.
39:29Not even close.
39:30But there's Bain to get the rebound.
39:31Wagner again.
39:32And that one goes.
39:34I love that.
39:34Because Wagner can get in his own head about his shooting.
39:37But he has shot it so well.
39:39So the fact that no hesitation off that miss.
39:42Love it.
39:43Bain and Wagner have combined for 23 points.
39:46The Knicks have 31 as a team.
39:48Hart's sidewinding three.
39:50Not close.
39:53Wagner up the floor.
39:55Leaves it for Bain.
39:56Swing to the corner.
39:57Now Suggs.
39:58And nobody picked him up.
39:59An easy path to the bucket.
40:00I'm not sure the numbers are going to tell you everything about what Bain is doing.
40:04His influence is all over the floor.
40:08Bronson back out there.
40:09Tipped by Wagner.
40:11Will stay with the Knicks.
40:13Bain just...
40:15It's beyond the 12 points for me.
40:18It's as much about his intensity.
40:20The pace he's established.
40:21The fact that as a secondary ball handler, you can trust him.
40:25You and I have been watching some Magic games on League Pass.
40:29Would you agree this is the most comfortable he's looked this season?
40:31Oh my goodness.
40:32Not even close.
40:32And I wondered.
40:33You and I were texting because we were obviously watching the game.
40:36And you said this is the kind of shot that can get a player started.
40:39You had a game winner like that.
40:41Boy, you just start to feel a little different.
40:43The first game winner in his career at the buzzer.
40:48Bronson gets the bounce.
40:49He's got 13 points to lead all scores.
40:54Knicks are down 13.
40:56Midway point of the quarter.
40:59Wagner gets another good look.
41:01Batted around.
41:04Orlando keeps.
41:05Now Bain sidestep.
41:07In and out on the three.
41:08Bronson being defended by Bain.
41:22They've got Suggs on McBride.
41:27Bronson is fouled shooting a three by Bain.
41:30That's Bain's second.
41:31Three free throws for Bronson.
41:33He's already four of four at the line.
41:34He's the sole reason it feels like that they're attached.
41:38You've got an opportunity to get them back within ten.
41:40It's not a steady diet of pick and roll.
41:43But you will get the pick and roll.
41:45That little left arm, forearm.
41:47The push off of that defender just creates a little space.
41:55Rulo floor is a defensive foul.
42:00Rulo floor is a defensive foul.
42:02This play is under review.
42:03We're going to see if he meets the criteria for a playground foul.
42:06Okay.
42:06So this is not a coach's challenge.
42:07This is an official review.
42:09Meanwhile, Paulo Bancaro shaking up Fort Orlando.
42:11Let's get that story and check in with Angel.
42:14Yeah, Dave.
42:14He was just going down the tunnel with the training staff.
42:19Before the timeout, he was grimacing about two plays.
42:21And he came to the bench.
42:23He sat at the end of the bench.
42:25They were working on his leg the entire time in the timeout.
42:28He did not take the floor again.
42:29But they were able to bandage his left rowing area up.
42:32They also wrapped a heating pad on that left side as well.
42:36He tried to see if he could work through it at the time.
42:38Now, on this timeout, they are going to the back of the locker room.
42:40And I'll give you any updates as I have them.
42:42He was grimacing for periods of this first half.
42:46Angel, thank you for that.
42:48Remember, a season ago, he was off to that incredible start.
42:51That is now six fouls drawn by Brunson so far in this game.
43:04Let's go back to Angel.
43:05I was just told by the team that it is a leckerboring strain.
43:09They are questionable to return.
43:11So I'll give you an update on if that happens, guys.
43:13Last year, he missed 36 games due to injury after missing just 12 his first two years combined.
43:26Last year, it was Suggs that was out, too.
43:29He missed a ton of games.
43:30Orlando still made the playoffs.
43:31But the expectations are higher.
43:34And some of that has to do with, you know, Indiana not having Halliburton, the Celtics not having Tatum.
43:38But I think they would have been higher anyway.
43:41But a lot of people feel like this Orlando team should be in the conversation to be one of the top three seeds in the East.
43:47Well, that guy that you were looking at, this young man, Mo Wagner, Franz's brother.
43:55I mean, listen, they're 41-41 a season ago.
43:57With, as I said earlier, Suggs, Wagner, Franz Wagner, and Paolo getting limited minutes.
44:04Six games, 97 minutes.
44:07So, and listen, do I think playing under the weight of expectation could have impacted them early?
44:13Certainly.
44:13Absolutely.
44:15But I just, I hate the overreactions after five to ten games.
44:19Like, give them some time.
44:21Now to new players they're trying to work in and adjust to new teammates.
44:27And a new system, same goes for the Knicks.
44:29So they found their groove.
44:31It took a little while as well for them to get going.
44:33Meanwhile, Brunson missed two free throws on that trip.
44:35He made one.
44:38Scoop and scored by Bataze and the foul.
44:42He's shaking his head.
44:44He's like, I didn't even know I had that in my bag.
44:47He'll go to the line to try to complete the three-point play.
44:50His minutes have been a little up and down, but of the last several, starting to get consistent.
44:56And on the deck to the cup.
44:59You see the challenge from OG goes right by Mitchell Robinson.
45:03And an OB commits his first foul.
45:07The free throw is good.
45:08And the Magic have opened up a big lead here.
45:11Fifteen points.
45:12How about New York?
45:14Thirty-four points in the first half with four and a half to play.
45:18With the run they've been on offensively.
45:21Wow.
45:22Yeah, averaging about 134 for a game the last three.
45:24Art towing the line.
45:29Now steps back.
45:30Can't drill the three.
45:31Robinson his third offensive rebound.
45:33McBride, they need it.
45:34They don't get it.
45:35Another miss for the Knicks.
45:38Four for 17 from three.
45:45Wagner over Brunson puts it in.
45:47You can tell if he likes a matchup he's not giving it up, folks.
45:51He's got excellent footwork.
45:53He's got excellent feel with a defender on his back.
45:59So no Bancaro, but Wagner and Bain picking up the scoring slack.
46:03And it's a 17-point lead.
46:05Orlando plus 12 in the paint.
46:09McBride at the foul line.
46:10Stopped his dribble.
46:12Brunson can't get free from Suggs on the other side.
46:15Hart has to put it up with one on the shot clock.
46:17Good defense by De Silva.
46:19Wait, the Knicks only five assists.
46:21They've averaged 30 in five straight games over 30 assists.
46:25Feels like a lot of one-on-one basketball for New York.
46:29A lot of missed shots.
46:30As you said, the turnovers are hurting them.
46:33We've got to give.
46:35Ooh.
46:35It's on Suggs, his third.
46:39I mean, it's unnecessary.
46:41Yeah, it just drove right into the...
46:42That would drive you crazy as a basketball coach.
46:46Why?
46:47Just dribble the ball up the floor.
46:49Because this changes things.
46:53He's been so good defending Brunson.
46:58And now he goes to the bench.
47:03Kind of the head of the snake of that defense for Orlando.
47:05He changes their team when he's not on the floor.
47:08Brunson missed there.
47:09Robinson got the rebound and lost it out of bounds.
47:12Well, we've got a disagreement between the two officials on the far side.
47:17I think Derek Collins has it going the other way.
47:21Yeah, he said it was touched by the magic.
47:23But even Jamal Mosley acknowledged they're a different team when Suggs is in the game
47:28as opposed to when he's been out with injury because of the tenacity on the defensive end.
47:34It lifts the energy of that entire group.
47:36And a foul away from the ball as Bain got tangled up with Brunson.
47:43Yeah, he's fighting him tooth and nail.
47:45He made his last three-point attempt very difficult.
47:49And I'll live with that if I'm Jamal Mosley, right?
47:51You've not played to your identity defensively all year.
47:56And he's just trying to be uber-physical with him.
47:59It's a very good call.
48:01And I'll tell you who's not going to let that kind of physicality go.
48:03So Brunson does a great job of making sure the official sees everything
48:08and sometimes enhancing it on occasion.
48:12Well, that one I don't think he had to enhance.
48:14He couldn't even get back onto the floor as Bain picks up his third foul of the quarter.
48:18So you've got Bain and Suggs both with three and Vancaro out of the game with injury.
48:22Time to make a run if you're New York.
48:24Put some pressure on them right now.
48:27Towns back on the floor for that reason.
48:29He's been quiet just four points.
48:31Two of five for the floor.
48:32Brunson attacking.
48:35Shamit with three to shoot.
48:37Two strong but another foul on a three-point shot.
48:40This is on Tyus Jones.
48:43Now Brunson went one of three on his trip to the line.
48:47We'll see what happens for Shamit as the Magic are over the foul on it.
48:51Well, they do look a lot closer to their tough, defensive-minded team a year ago.
48:58Sixth in defensive efficiency, I believe, Orlando.
49:01Landry Shamit in his second year with the Knicks.
49:07His sixth team overall.
49:09He started three games this year.
49:12Mike Brown obviously loves the shooting, but also the toughness that Shamit plays with.
49:17First year for Brown, three years with Sacramento, got let go 31 games into last season, just a year and a half after winning Coach of the Year.
49:25Well, coming up next Wednesday, we have another NBA doubleheader for you.
49:33It's the Rockets and Cavs at 7, followed by the Knicks and the Mavs.
49:37Countdown crew tips it off at 6.30 Eastern.
49:39The Mavs making a change with their general manager, Nico Harrison, relieved of his duties yesterday after a 3-8 start for Dallas.
49:49Quite possibly the most unpopular man in Dallas, Texas history.
49:54Felt like that was a move based on the timing to kind of save the brand.
49:58We'll see how the fans respond to their game tonight.
50:01They host Phoenix at American Airlines Center.
50:05Wendell Carter gets the jump shot to fall.
50:09Knicks feel like they're stuck in mud offensively.
50:16Yeah, a lot of switching, good dig down by Jonathan Isaac.
50:20Look at the help come over.
50:22I mean, come on.
50:23That is just outstanding team defense and individual defense.
50:28Wagner on the other end, lays it in.
50:30Back-to-back buckets, a chance to make some hay if you're in New York.
50:33But again, it's the defensive intensity.
50:36That last post-up defense by Wagner and his teammates, so good.
50:39They're holding the Knicks to 31% shooting.
50:43After the Bridges basket, they have just 38 points.
50:47And they come in number two in the NBA in offense.
50:51And again, the last three games, 130-plus in each, a franchise record.
50:57Carter knocks down the elbow jumper.
50:59Lead back to 19.
51:08You mentioned you opened up some cards and saw Shaq from the 90s wearing a Magic jersey.
51:14This game looks like it's from the 90s, at least.
51:16The score here for New York.
51:19De Silva penetrates and puts it up and in.
51:21And the lead is 21.
51:22Wow.
51:23How about the bench tonight giving them a little bit of a boost?
51:26And how about the left hand?
51:29Bronson hammered by De Silva.
51:32Back to the line he goes.
51:35Well, that's why Carl Anthony Towns posts up a lot less than he used to.
51:40But he's working one-on-one initially.
51:42There comes the help from Carter.
51:43That's as good as you can do it defensively.
51:53UFC 322 is Saturday here at Madison Square Garden, highlighted by two title fights.
52:00The welterweight and women's flyweight belts are on the line.
52:03The prelims at 8 Eastern, main card at 10 Eastern on pay-per-view.
52:07Tracy Cortez, UFC flyweight, will take on Erin Blanchfield.
52:11In other words, don't mess with her, Dave.
52:15No.
52:16No.
52:20So, 1.24 to go here in the half.
52:22Jalen Brunson at the line where he's 5 of 7.
52:24The Knicks coming off a win last night at home here against Memphis.
52:29And they have struggled to repeat their offensive success.
52:33There's 39 points so far in this game.
52:3832% shooting.
52:394 of 18 from 3.
52:41They were 22 of 55 last night from 3.
52:47Orlando came in here.
52:49Angel Gray reported a couple of guys said,
52:50Hey, we want to punch first.
52:52We understand that they are on a back-to-back.
52:55We want to keep our pace up.
52:57They have done that this evening.
52:59It's a 19-point deficit for the Knicks.
53:04Brunson has 16.
53:05The next high scorer is Shamit with 5.
53:09Orlando led by 15 from Wagner, 12 from Bain.
53:12De Silva on the step-through is fouled.
53:14Okay, so think about that.
53:16I mean, Tyus Jones is on the floor, but Bain has handled it.
53:19Suggs has handled it.
53:21You put the ball in the hands of this young man, and you're saying,
53:24All right, make some decisions.
53:25Middle of the floor.
53:27Go make some things happen.
53:30Second foul on Towns.
53:32Remember, this young man at the free-throw line, De Silva, from Munich, Germany,
53:37so played this summer with Franz Wagner.
53:4511 points per game in the season.
53:47Orlando has not missed yet from the line tonight.
53:4912 of 12.
53:59And, of course, the announcer, Jinks.
54:01Towns trying to save it.
54:03Could not.
54:04It's Orlando ball.
54:05Why have you admitted to it?
54:06It's on field goals and free throws.
54:09Yeah.
54:09Just got to learn to keep my mouth shut.
54:11Yeah, a lot of guys don't fess up, though.
54:12I admire that you did.
54:17Wagner attacking everybody.
54:19The follow won't go by Isaac.
54:21Tried to slam it home.
54:24Nick Ball inside a minute to go.
54:27Bridges has been quiet.
54:29Just four points.
54:30Towns has four.
54:30And an OBS, too.
54:32Towns able to get that one to fall.
54:34That's a tough bucket in traffic.
54:38Wagner pulls up and scores on the other end.
54:40So smart.
54:41He knows Jalen Brunson, the defender in front of him, loves to draw charges.
54:46Just stops on the dime and elevates.
54:48Brunson wants to take Carter to the basket.
55:00Bridges.
55:01Brunson.
55:02Three.
55:02Three.
55:04No good.
55:05So that's twice Wendell Carter Jr.
55:07has been switched on to Brunson and twice has been disciplined enough to stay down in a stance and not get shaken by his footwork or his up fake.
55:18How about that discipline?
55:19How about a second and a half difference in the game and shot clocks here at the end of the first half with Orlando up 20.
55:26Wagner a deep one.
55:27Not there.
55:28A lot of contact underneath and a loose ball foul is called on Orlando.
55:33Going to be on Isaac and that's going to send Brunson to the line on the other end with 2.7 remaining.
55:41I think it was Isaac on the other side because it was Carter tangled up with Brunson and visibly upset that no whistle is happening.
55:50But Jamal has given Carter a little talk and to you here.
55:54Bottom left-hand side of your screen.
55:57And that's a foul on Carter.
55:58I mean, you can be frustrated that little man is, like, maybe holding your jersey, and he is, but you are going to get called for that forearm shiver.
56:11Have they called a double foul because they're lining up at mid-court?
56:14Wow, they did.
56:16It's probably appropriate when you look at that jersey hold.
56:22So that's the first on Carter.
56:24And on Brunson, that's his first.
56:31So 2.7 seconds left.
56:33They'll jump it up at mid-court with the Knicks down 20.
56:42Brunson got the ball taken away and the half comes to an end.
56:46The fewest points in a first half this season for the Knicks.
56:52Just 42, and they missed their last eight threes.
56:56Halftime presented by Hyundai Palisade coming up with Ernie, Kenny, Charles, and Shaq.
57:01Highlights of this and all the early games tonight, plus a look ahead to Game 2 between the Lakers and the Thunder.
57:08Desmond Bain with 12 for Orlando.
57:11But it's Franz.
