00:32But behind closed doors, that's your fact.
00:34Terry was keeping her in that cycle intentionally.
00:37Everything was red flags for me.
00:39Just in my gut.
00:40I knew it was bad news.
00:42You said somebody's chasing you with a gun?
00:45It still gives me nightmares.
00:47I'm f***ing up, I'm telling you.
01:0020-year-old Ashley Buck is on vacation with her son.
01:15There's the bister.
01:17Her family and partner, 36-year-old Terry Barlow.
01:21Look at Terry.
01:24She was perfect.
01:25She was the best mom I've ever met.
01:28I don't think I met a soul that ever said anything bad about Ashley.
01:34She was the brains.
01:35She knew how to take care of things.
01:38And he was the fun one.
01:41Look at the camera.
01:43What are you doing?
01:44Terry always tried to make a joke.
01:47Always was the funny one.
01:48Always making everyone around him laugh on the outside.
01:52You're a goofball.
01:54She was in love with him, I guess.
01:58She would do anything for him.
02:04Ashley was born in Salina, Kansas.
02:07February 15, 1984.
02:11She was my second born.
02:13I can't say that I remember it.
02:16I was one when she was born.
02:18We were pretty much inseparable.
02:20She was my best friend.
02:21That's what she was to me.
02:23She was different than Amanda.
02:25She was more of a mama's crybaby.
02:27She would cry the first day of school up until fifth grade.
02:32And I'll never forget when I walked her into fifth grade and she didn't cry.
02:36I went, she's growing up finally.
02:41We were really young when our parents moved us to Texas.
02:46The family settles in Corrigan, Texas, and Ashley gains two brothers and a sister.
02:51I was number four.
02:53Ashley was eight years older than me.
02:55Out of all the siblings, she was the one I think played with me the most.
02:58We grew up rough.
03:00So we kind of bonded over, we're not going to let our childhood, I guess, bring us down.
03:17We used to pick on her all the time just to get her to be like, Mom, make them stop, you know.
03:22Turn it off!
03:28She was whiny, she was whiny.
03:30Mother!
03:31But we were her siblings, especially her little ones, so of course we had to go mess with her all the time.
03:39She grew up a lot faster than I did, so I would say she was more mature than I was.
03:45Age 15, Ashley's life takes an unexpected turn.
03:49She met a guy, and she became pregnant.
03:54I was worried she might even quit school, but the school put a daycare in.
04:01After giving birth to a baby son in 1999, Ashley continues her education, getting straight A's.
04:09She got a job, she worked, she went to school.
04:12She would actually walk from the school over to the gas station where she was working,
04:16and then she'd get off, she'd go home, she'd give the baby a bath,
04:20so she'd get up, she'd go to school and go do it all again.
04:24She was the best mom, she was super mom.
04:26I don't even know how she'd done it.
04:28She still graduated with honors.
04:31And in the summer of 2002, moves into her own apartment.
04:35It was a low-income apartment, but she was proud of it.
04:43Then one day, somebody called me asking, where's Ashley?
04:47So I go across to her apartment, knock on the door.
04:50She's not there.
04:51She just packed up some clothes, packed up her son, and she was gone.
04:58It's like poof, she's not here no more.
05:01I had no idea.
05:03I had no idea for months and months until she called me and said,
05:07I'm okay mom.
05:09She was living down here in Beaumont with Terry.
05:14Ashley moves 85 miles south to live with 34-year-old trucker Terry Barlow.
05:21She was 17 when he met her.
05:24We were like, Ashley, he's almost old enough to be your dad.
05:28What are you doing?
05:30And she was like, it's fine, it's fine, it's not that big a deal.
05:34I felt like she was looking for somebody to take care of her.
05:38And he was selling that I'm going to take care of you and your baby.
05:44She probably did want a role model for her son on her own.
05:50It was probably scary.
05:52He could have given her a little security.
05:54What the?
05:56Yeah, I win first.
05:58I think Ashley was his little trophy.
06:00This young, pretty, smart, trophy.
06:10Terry always had this big camcorder.
06:13He liked to record everything.
06:16This is my house.
06:18This is the old crib.
06:20This is the inside of our house, man.
06:23It's all right.
06:25He was a truck driver.
06:26He was the breadwinner in the beginning.
06:29And Ashley was the one that stayed at home.
06:34So he did things to make a little bit of money.
06:37He liked to flaunt money, too.
06:40That's what this is.
06:42That mommy's going to take away as soon as we can figure out how to open the bag.
06:47Touchscreen.
06:49Eggs are everywhere.
06:51Just run.
06:52Just run and look.
06:54There's money everywhere.
06:56He'd be happy-go-lucky, joking, laughing and everything.
06:59Most people just thought he was, you know, a good guy.
07:02He's cool.
07:03You know, he's funny.
07:04He makes everybody laugh.
07:05He invites everybody over to parties.
07:07Look at this .
07:08I remember he had a very loud laugh.
07:11You could hear him from across the yard whenever he'd start laughing.
07:15I'm up. I'm telling you.
07:18They weren't like a huggy-lovey couple.
07:20They really weren't.
07:21They'd laugh and joke and they'd have a good time together if Terry was in a good mood.
07:25But I don't remember ever seeing her kiss him.
07:27I don't remember seeing her hug him.
07:29It was a very, like, detached relationship.
07:33My sister did everything.
07:34My sister took care of the house, the cooking, the cleaning, everything.
07:39It wasn't long after she moved down there that she really started to put on the weight.
07:44Why not be the big baby?
07:46Because you thick, baby. You thick.
07:48Look at all that booty.
07:50Down here in the South, being thick, that's a good thing.
07:53Or it may have been a good thing for him.
07:55I guess men like that.
07:59I'm looking at my face.
08:00If he was filming, he was trying to, oh, you know, oh, this is mine.
08:05Shake that thing!
08:06I'm going to pump you up.
08:10But behind closed doors is your fat.
08:13It's zooming on me. I'm already big enough.
08:17Oh, he would always think it was funny to joke about her weight.
08:21Some of those jokes I didn't care for.
08:24Now we in and out into the next room.
08:27A treadmill we never use.
08:29She don't never use it.
08:31Your self-esteem is most definitely going to go down if the person, you know, you're supposed to love or what have you, cause you fat.
08:39She wasn't the happy-go-lucky, giggly big sister that I remember.
08:44You could just tell she wasn't the same. She lost that spark.
08:47It wasn't until later that I found out that he had just gotten out of prison.
08:52And I pretty much got with Ashley as soon as he got out of prison.
08:56Everything was red flags for me.
08:59Just always in my gut.
09:01I knew it was bad news.
09:14When you boys send it home, in the rain, when you want to get good and thirsty, guess what you do?
09:21Get up and get some of the good meals.
09:23Go over here to the fresh cooler right here.
09:26Let me see the cooler.
09:30Terry didn't drink constantly.
09:32No, I'll pop one up.
09:34But if it was weekends or especially holidays.
09:40Yes.
09:42And he'd always put on a big show for everybody, buying all kinds of liquor and beer for everyone.
09:49Yeah, he always wanted to make the appearance that he was more than he was.
09:53Here they go!
09:54And then I found out later that he would do a lot of that, putting them in debt on credit cards.
10:00So he could make everybody look like he was all that.
10:05You could tell whenever he'd get drunk that he'd get mean.
10:08First time I came down here and seen Ashley, there was a big black bruise on her arm.
10:17And I ran to her and I said, did he do this to you?
10:21And she said, oh no, mother, he did not.
10:24She tried to say she ran into a door or something.
10:26And I just knew better.
10:28It looked like somebody had punched her in the arm.
10:32She would just look off or she would change the subject.
10:35I mean, there was no talking about what went on between them.
10:39It's Christmas Day and Terry plays Santa.
10:48Get in there and get that blanket off of you and go open your presents.
10:52You're sleeping.
10:54You should have been in bed last night. Get up.
10:56He would get more agitated. He'd start yelling and cussing and, you know, just little things would set him off.
11:03Better life done. Better not cry. Better not be bad. I'mma bust your ass.
11:10I couldn't even go in their house without getting a sick feeling to my stomach.
11:14I'mma bust you up. I'mma bust you up. It's be bad.
11:19You could feel it when you walked in the house, the anger, the evil almost. Like, you could feel it.
11:24I'mma bust you up just to be bad.
11:28Ashley knew that whenever everybody was gone, if he was upset or angry, that he was going to hurt her.
11:35I remember she showed up at my apartment, just bloodied up.
11:40She had her stuff with her, but she wouldn't talk. She would never tell us what happened.
11:47And she stayed maybe two days with me and went back.
11:51Why didn't you leave? I can't answer that.
11:56Maybe she didn't believe that it was as controlling and maybe she thought that was love.
12:02Maybe she didn't know the difference.
12:05Despite his controlling behavior, Ashley stays with Terry.
12:09See how fast he's going over here.
12:12Telephone.
12:143.1.
12:16Telephone.
12:17Get the phone.
12:19Nice.
12:23I know that was something she always wanted, was to have the big, pretty wedding and the big, pretty dress.
12:28And just to, to be the center of attention for a day.
12:33And he said, no, I'm never going to get married again, because he had already been married and gotten a divorce.
12:39And I think that hurt Ashley, but eventually I think she accepted it.
12:42I really wanted Ashley to have a happy little family.
12:47Because I knew that's what she wanted. She wanted the happy little life.
12:53After eight years with Terry, Ashley has a baby girl.
12:57She's mommy's baby.
12:59Trinity.
13:00She was super happy she was having a little girl.
13:04She would call me and we would talk about T names.
13:08It had to be a name that started with T.
13:11But I used to say, why does it have to start with a T?
13:13And, of course, Terry is where it came from.
13:17She was a great mom.
13:20And he doted over her.
13:26You do be.
13:28That, I can honestly say, was the best time of their lives.
13:33That they were probably happy.
13:37I'm going to catch you being bad.
13:39Two years later, on December 15th, 2011, Ashley and Terry welcomed baby Tyson into the family.
13:47Wave at the camera, I'll let you go and play the game.
13:50I feel like she loved him way more than she should have.
13:54He made her into the woman that takes care of the house, the woman that cooks the food, makes sure the meals are on the table, washes their clothes.
14:05He expected her to do everything, but don't get upset at anything he does.
14:10She learned how to cook, and I guess she liked her cooking, because she did. She got big.
14:20Look at that.
14:22Terry would call her fat, and you could tell it bothered her, but I think she got used to being body shamed by him.
14:27Don't do it, Ashley. Don't be like that. Don't be like that, Ashley.
14:32It was like he was play poking fun, but there was an underlying meanness to it.
14:39I'm not looking at my plate.
14:40I think he wanted her to feel like no one else would have her, because he wanted to keep her for himself.
14:49She was so self-conscious. She gained a bunch of weight. She didn't want to go out.
14:55She couldn't go nowhere. She couldn't do anything, so she just added home and ate.
15:01Go right down over here.
15:03She would avoid certain chairs and stuff, because she knew she couldn't fit in them.
15:08That kind of hurt me to see, because that's how big she got.
15:12And she would talk about it all the time. Oh, I need to lose weight. I want to lose weight.
15:16Just wait till I'm as skinny as you are again, you know?
15:19And she did try to lose the weight, but it was hard, because like I said, she was doing everything for everybody all the time.
15:28She was just living to take care of the kids, and whatever Terry needed taken care of, that's what she did.
15:35Terry was keeping her in that cycle intentionally, because as long as she wasn't happy, you know, she wasn't trying to get away.
15:42Even though she wasn't happy, she was going to stay for Trinity and Tyson.
15:51She wanted the best for them kids. She did. She wanted them to be able to do anything that they wanted to do.
15:57That's whenever she decided she was going to start going to school and stuff.
16:02Ashley got a job at the probation office, and they're the ones that got her into becoming a probation officer.
16:11So she started going to school, but she did it. She graduated with a bachelor's degree.
16:18They hired her right off the bat. She became a probation officer.
16:22To have two small children and do everything she did. Oh, I was proud of her. I was very proud.
16:31She was young, beautiful, smart, everything he wasn't.
16:38She portrayed everything like everything is fine, I'm happy, living the dream, living the life, but I don't feel like that's the way it was.
16:50I think that he got her to a point where she felt that she was not good enough, not pretty, and not, you know, sexy.
17:00Then, in 2017, Ashley's world comes crashing down.
17:07She went through his phone. I think that's how she found out.
17:10He was paying for another woman's apartment and paying her bills.
17:15I thought it was disgusting, because Ashley was working, trying to keep them above water, and he's paying bills on a whole other household.
17:26Like I was told, that was his woman. Ashley was just crazy baby mama.
17:34That was his choice to go off and have an affair, but somehow it always turned around and it was Ashley's fault.
17:40Well, you made me do this, you know, and if you look better, if you were skinnier, I would stay around.
17:46Yeah, it was always Ashley's fault.
17:47I know they fought about it, and I told her, I was like, you know he's cheating on you.
17:54And she said, yeah, I know, but I'm not giving up like that.
18:00She gave him an ultimatum of, you either leave and go with her, or you marry me.
18:07I felt like I was looking at a car crash beginning to happen.
18:11It's 2018, and Ashley gets the proposal she's been dreaming of.
18:29Ashley called me and said, I'm getting married on August 18th.
18:34And I said, what? She already had the invitations.
18:38She was just happy that she was going to get to get married.
18:40You know, something she dreamed about her whole life.
18:46I wanted to just shake her and be like, what are you doing?
18:50I just knew in my heart, that's not what you need to do.
18:54You need to leave him.
18:58Terry showed up to his wedding with sunglasses on.
19:03The night before the wedding, he was so drunk.
19:06His eyes were so bloodshot that he wore the glasses to hide the fact that he was just messed up.
19:15I thought to myself, why did she still marry him? Why?
19:19She looked very pretty, but it wasn't the happy wedding that it should have been.
19:27It felt like everybody in the whole room was watching my sister look like a fool.
19:32And I wanted to be excited for her, but I did not go to the wedding.
19:39And it's not that I didn't want to be there for Ashley, it's just that I wanted her to leave him so bad.
19:46Ashley said, well, he's taking it as if our entire life started over when we got married.
19:53But that's not the way it works.
19:55Whoo! What's up here?
19:58Look at this . He got me down for his birthday.
20:02We're doing it that night.
20:04A year after getting married, Ashley and Terry go on vacation with friends to Cancun, Mexico.
20:09While they were there, one of his people told Ashley that he was having another affair.
20:27It was like the switch had finally flipped for Ashley.
20:32She wasn't going to be unhappy anymore, and she wasn't going to let him be the reason she was unhappy anymore.
20:37That's when she decided she was going to have the weight loss surgery, and she did.
20:44She was losing weight, and she was sticking to the diet really well.
20:48I was, like, super stoked because I was like, I can't wait to see what Ashley's going to do, you know?
20:55It was like watching a transformation, making sure she got her workout in, going to the personal trainer.
21:02So she did a complete 360.
21:05We started seeing her smile again, and I was just so happy to see Ashley back.
21:16Let me go and hit that thing right here right quick. Let me hit that thing!
21:20Terry was threatened.
21:22She would just make little remarks about how he didn't want her to go to the personal trainer.
21:26She told me, he thinks I'm still a little girl. I'm a grown woman now.
21:32So yeah, he was threatened.
21:37Her daughter, Trinity, had a very hard time.
21:40She couldn't tell me why they were fighting. All she could tell me was that Terry held her mom down on the floor and had a gun in her mouth, and it was loaded.
21:55He had knocked Ashley over on the couch and put a gun in her mouth.
22:02And Ashley was trying to get Trinity to call 911.
22:05And he told Trinity that if you f***ing call anybody, I'm going to kill her.
22:13But again, Ashley would not tell me anything.
22:18So Ashley probably lived in more terror than I'll ever know, because she hid it from me.
22:25In September 2021, Terry moves out.
22:32Amanda told me that Ashley's finally going to divorce Terry.
22:37I think everybody was ecstatic.
22:40She started making plans, and she was doing all the work.
22:45She found him an apartment, bought furniture for the apartment with her check, and he realized that Ashley is serious.
22:53So she started like following her, like following her around.
23:02She didn't tell me he was pulling guns on her.
23:05But from the look on her face, I knew she was scared.
23:10She said, Mom, why won't Terry leave me alone?
23:14I said, men don't go through divorce as well.
23:16They're not like women, they just can't handle it.
23:19And that's what I said.
23:21And I wished I'd have said more.
23:24Because I didn't know that was the last time I would talk to her.
23:31To escape Terry, Ashley moves in with her sister.
23:35She had moved over to Amanda's house, and she was living there with the kids.
23:41They were all planning to cook dinner, and they were making ribs.
23:44But I called Ashley, and I was like, Ashley, make sure that, you know, Mom don't mess up the ribs.
23:51Ashley had told me that she was going to pay the sports coach, and she was going to come right back.
23:57But, like, she never ended up coming, coming back.
24:05911, where's your emergency?
24:07Ma'am, my brother-in-law just called me and told me he killed my sister.
24:11On the evening of October 23rd, 2021, a business owner called 911.
24:24Hello, 911.
24:25Hello, 911.
24:26He observed a disturbance between one of his clients and her husband.
24:31There's a guy here with a gun at my shop.
24:33Where at?
24:34He doesn't identify him other than it's a guy with a gun chasing us around.
24:39Stop!
24:40Stop!
24:41Stop!
24:43Stop!
24:44Stop!
24:46The suspect was pointing a firearm, making verbal threats.
24:49He's chasing me with a gun!
24:51And you said somebody's chasing you with a gun?
24:54Yeah, now he's, now he's trapped around the corner.
24:58That's a top priority call.
25:00Any type of disturbance, but especially one that we know there's a weapon involved.
25:05So, immediately, they get multiple units to respond to this location to try to catch the suspect.
25:10What does he look like, sir?
25:12His name is Terry. He's a black male, 62.
25:17Terry? Okay.
25:18Why is he chasing you with a gun, though? Because his wife was there?
25:22Yes.
25:23He's dropping off now.
25:27Multiple units are heading to that location.
25:29But within minutes, the suspect decided to return.
25:34And this is when everything went to absolute chaos.
25:41I actually hadn't been gone 25 minutes.
25:47I had my phone, like, right here.
25:49And I said, Terry.
25:50I looked at it, and something told me to answer the phone.
25:55And the first thing he said was, I shot, I shot Ashley. I shot Ashley.
26:01And that's when Amanda started calling me screaming that he killed her. That he killed Ashley.
26:12I don't know. My body just went into shock, I guess. And I told her to call 911.
26:18I am trying to get to my sister on College Street. He just told me he shot her. What's his name now? His name is Terry Barlow.
26:27I knew where to go because she said, I'm going to pay the sports coach.
26:35After our male victim realized the coast was clear, he got back on the phone, called 911.
26:41Can you get them here? The dude came back and opened fire and shot her.
26:45Did the cops cool down?
26:47OK. Talk to the police. We'll get EMS headed that way.
26:50He came back and shot her.
26:52When the responding officers arrive at the scene, they find a very distraught male victim.
26:58He was shaking. He was upset. He was clearly frightened for his life.
27:01But once he was able to compose himself, he was able to tell us that our suspect is a man by the name of Terry Barlow.
27:09All units were actively looking for this man.
27:13Our victim was Ashley Barlow.
27:16She'd had multiple gunshot wounds throughout her entire body.
27:20It was a very disturbing crime scene.
27:24The cops are already here.
27:28Ma'am. Ma'am.
27:29Ma'am. Ma'am.
27:32Ma'am. Ma'am.
27:34When I got there, she was just laying in, like, the middle of a parking lot.
27:39And I just remember saying, why aren't y'all doing anything? Why aren't y'all doing anything?
27:45They were, like, looking at me and shaking their head.
27:50No!
27:52No!
27:53There's no words that can describe the way you feel when you pull up and see your sister or dad shot down in the middle of the street like a dog.
28:06And then Terry came back.
28:10He came back and tried to pretend like he didn't know what was going on, what happened to my wife.
28:15And Amanda lost it. Amanda tried to get to him, but the cops held her back.
28:20She started screaming, you know, that's my sister.
28:24And I guess that's when they put him under arrest.
28:27When I get there, I'm able to observe the scene, observe the body.
28:31I'm advised that our suspect has been taken into custody.
28:36I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that.
28:40Patrol officers had already taped off everything with crime scene tape and had Mr. Barlow in the back of a patrol car.
28:48We start collecting evidence, taking pictures.
28:51I saw numerous shell casings everywhere.
28:54There was a .38 and a .40 caliber.
28:57We knew there was at least two different handguns, but they were not there.
29:02There was also a GPS tracker that was laying next to her, which was odd.
29:08Where she was hit was very close range, front of her face and her chest.
29:14I knew right away this wasn't just something that got out of hand, a sudden passion type deal.
29:20This was somebody that was exacting their violence in a very personal way.
29:25We were unable to find any handguns there, but we did notice one of the businesses did have cameras.
29:32Their video had audio.
29:35We were able to hear everything from the first disturbance to when the actual homicide took place.
29:40He chases down his wife as she's absolutely begging for her life.
29:59He takes her out and shoots her multiple times.
30:01And then has the audacity to tell her, it's her fault. Look what you've made me do.
30:10I have not seen anything so cold-blooded.
30:13And as she's laying there, mortally wounded, continues to fire on her.
30:17That was horrible. Cold-blooded killer.
30:27At that moment, Terry's in the back of a patrol car.
30:31You just got to clear any personal biases of what you just saw.
30:34And you got to give him a fair shot as well of telling you his side of it.
30:39You know, be Detective Sergeant Barrero, not Yvette Barrero, the person that just is enraged.
30:48Hey, Mr. Barrero.
30:50Yes, ma'am.
30:51I'm Sergeant Barrero with the Beaumont Police Department.
30:54Obviously, you know what you've done here tonight.
31:00What I needed...
31:01I messed up. I messed up that.
31:03I wanted to let him know that I was willing to listen to what he had to say, even though I'd seen the footage.
31:10I know, baby. It's gonna be all right.
31:12I love my wife.
31:14It was vital that I reach out to him so that I could build some sort of rapport with him,
31:19so that he would feel comfortable in telling me what led up to this horrific act.
31:24We all mess up in life.
31:27The most important thing going forward here is to make this right.
31:31We just wanted to know what happened that night, and we needed him to do that.
31:37Our main goal is what happened, what led up to this, and especially what did he do with the weapons.
31:49Terry Barlow is interviewed by detectives after fatally shooting Ashley.
31:57Me and my wife, we've been fussing while I come home from work.
32:03And she said that she wanted a divorce.
32:07Okay.
32:08After 20 years, you ain't gonna tell me why.
32:11And she said, she just needs space.
32:15So I say, okay, if you need space, and we're gonna work on this, I'll move.
32:24By the time we got to the station, I had learned that he had placed a tracker on her car,
32:29and that he had been following her and knowing every step she took.
32:33I bought this tracker, and I put it on the car.
32:36Today, it popped up.
32:40And I said to myself, I'm gonna go over here, find out what's going on.
32:48It didn't go right.
32:50Terry was mad and upset that Ashley was standing there and talking to another male subject.
32:54He pulls up, he gets out, and he confronts Ashley, and he doesn't remember what happened next.
33:01She would want me to turn myself in and do the right thing.
33:06He's telling us he wants to do the right thing.
33:09I just wasn't believing it.
33:12Terry, I know you said that you knew that you had hurt her.
33:16Did you know when you left how severe it was?
33:19No, I didn't know. I didn't know. I didn't know.
33:21I'm thinking, man, you really are a callous, evil, selfish person for doing what you just did, but making this all about you.
33:31Did you think about calling 911 to get her some help?
33:36I didn't know what I had done. I just noticed she needed me. She needed me. And I was going back because she needed me.
33:42He's telling us that he's messed up. But when we get down to the brass tacks of it, you know, what did you do with the weapons, then all of a sudden he has memory losses.
33:51So you dumped the 380 over there off Laurel. Did you do the same with the 40?
33:56I don't remember, ma'am. Once I got going, all I started thinking about was my kids.
34:02He has no idea we have video footage of the homicide and how brutal it was.
34:07That just goes to show the type of monster he really was.
34:12Do you think you might have tossed it out the window?
34:15I don't remember, and it's killing me because I don't want nobody to get there and hurt somebody else.
34:22It's like he wanted us to know almost everything except the part where he's the most guilty.
34:28And not helping us find the weapon. Everything that he was doing that night was trying to set up for his defense.
34:37You're under arrest for the murder of your wife and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
34:44So when he's arrested that night, he's transported to Jefferson County Jail.
34:49And the following morning, he was arraigned by a judge for the charge of murder.
34:54We have video that shows the murder. We have a GPS tracker. We have shell casings.
35:02What we don't have is the actual murder weapons.
35:05And we know there's at least two because we found two different shell casings.
35:14Hey, I found the gun. And it matches up with what y'all said. It's a Smith & Wesson single stack .380.
35:22So the night of the incident, we are able to locate one of the weapons.
35:27We were able to take that into custody. I mean, that's solid evidence.
35:31But we still needed to find the second weapon.
35:37Two days later, police received footage from a second surveillance camera.
35:41This video was absolutely the nail in his coffin, so to speak, because this angle was directly in front.
35:51When you put the two videos together and you hear the audio from this one,
35:55and then what's actually occurring, it still gives me nightmares.
35:59You could just see the pure evil in his intents, in his actions.
36:10We see how he shot her point blank.
36:15She pled for her life and could not do anything.
36:20He reloaded, exchanged weapons, and we now see him, the pure malice and evil, snuff her life out.
36:28He tried to say at one point she reached for the weapon.
36:36He didn't remember how many times he shot.
36:39He didn't remember what he did with the weapon.
36:42This video shows us that everything he was saying was completely made up.
36:47The autopsy confirms two different guns were used to kill Ashley.
36:54That just kept us really laser focused on trying to track down that second weapon.
37:00And we weren't going to give up.
37:02I don't know how many times I walked around there looking and crawling in ditches.
37:07Fortunately for us, we got some divine intervention.
37:11A homeowner doing yard work discovers the second gun.
37:15The second weapon that we recovered was a .40 automatic Smith & Wesson.
37:21Later testing showed that it matched the shell casings that was used in Ashley's homicide.
37:26So we finally found Terry's gun.
37:30So there was no doubt that this was an execution.
37:33He brought multiple weapons to carry out this hatred.
37:38Prosecutor Phillip Smith is assigned to the case.
37:41I worked in the 252nd District Court.
37:44Ashley was the probation officer in the courtroom next door.
37:48So everybody is understandably upset that one of our own has been taken in this manner.
37:55In this case, we were fortunate to have high resolution video from across the street.
38:01The evidence had been gathered. The police had done a great job.
38:05We had all the evidence in the world to show that he was guilty.
38:09Terry enters a plea deal and sentencing begins.
38:14He tried to put blame on Ashley for why he did it.
38:19He had a gun, but she was reaching for the gun in his pocket.
38:23The video showed that was not true.
38:25She was in fact running away from him when he takes the gun out and starts shooting at it.
38:30He's also putting blame on a deceased person for making him do it.
38:37And that, that's telling. That's a narcissist.
38:41To sit there on the stand, to me, was disgusting.
38:46Listening to him try to make excuses for what he done.
38:50Terry pleads guilty to Ashley's murder and the aggravated assault of the sports coach.
38:57He's sentenced to 50 years.
38:59That basically means he'll never see the light of day again.
39:03You know, he'll see his judgment one day and he'll have to account for that.
39:07It'll be far worse than what happens here on Earth.
39:10I think the world is a better place with Terry Barlow in prison.
39:15The only time I want to hear that man's name is whenever it's in an obituary.
39:20I felt like Terry stole Ashley a long time ago.
39:28You know, everybody else talks about losing Ashley the day she died.
39:33But I lost Ashley when Terry took her.
39:40I think she thought I was stronger than her.
39:44And I wasn't.
39:47She was strong.
39:49She was, she was so strong.
39:53And she endured so much.
39:56And she still continued to take care of her kids.
40:00She was a good mom.
40:02I want Ashley to be remembered as the kind person that she was.
40:07I want the kids to remember what a great mother she really was to them.
40:13Because I hope it never fades from their memory.
40:16I want Ashley to be remembered for her perseverance.
40:20That you can have just the most horrible things happen to you.
40:26But you can still stand up and grow and be a beautiful person.
40:33I think she won in the end. I do.
40:35I think she won that battle in the end.
40:37Because she got what she wanted.
40:39She did not want her kids raised with him.
40:41And that's, that's what happened.
40:43He's, she's not raising them kids.
40:46It's never going to ever be over.
40:49Because she was my baby.
40:51She was my daughter that I raised and was so proud of.
40:57They look like a very, very happy couple.
41:16She loved him. I could tell.
41:19He was going to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
41:22Appearances can be deceiving.
41:24No one knew what a monster he was.
