Lors de la cérémonie, Iggy Pop a rendu hommage au band de Détroit, présentant le duo formé par Jack et Meg White comme "les Adam et Ève du XXIe siècle, qui auraient fondé un groupe de rock".

Jack White a accepté l'honneur au nom du binôme et prononcé un discours de remerciement à la fois émouvant et inspirant : une lettre d'amour à Detroit — et à sa "sœur" absente, Meg White.

Jack, guitariste passionné de blues et de punk, et Meg, batteuse — autrefois mariés mais qui se présentaient au public comme frère et sœur — ont monté le groupe en 1997 et dissous en 2011.

01:00And like the little rascals, they said, let's put on a show.
01:03And they paraded this float through the Cass Corridor, standing atop the peppermint, pulled by white horses, or maybe it was a red Econoline van.
01:13And many of the blocks they traveled were empty, but some had people.
01:18And some of those people cheered.
01:20And some laughed, and some even threw stones.
01:24And with their bare hands, the two started to clap and sing and make up songs.
01:29And some people kept watching and swaying and moving.
01:32And then one person even smiled.
01:35And the boy and the girl looked at each other, and they also smiled.
01:39And they felt, they both felt the sin of pride, but they kept on smiling.
01:45Smiling from a new freedom.
01:46Knowing that they had shared and made another person feel something.
01:49And they thought the person smiling at them was a stranger.
01:54Someone they didn't even know.
01:56But it wasn't just a stranger.
01:58It was God.
