00:00Hey everyone, I'm Sarah Maliski, and welcome back to Real Talk, where it gets hot, spicy, and to the drama.
00:06On today's episode, we have Daniela Coso, the iconic Queen Bee.
00:30Oh my gosh, I am so excited that you're here today.
00:42Oh, me too, I'm so happy to be here.
00:44With the iconic Queen Bee, Daniela. Oh my gosh, okay, so we have so much to dive into, villain to villain.
00:51I'm so happy we can, like, bond over the trauma.
00:55Tell me a little bit about your experience with the viral series. How was that for you?
01:01It's been crazy. It's been very, very wild, very unexpected.
01:05This show, it was, like, female kind of based, so I had, like, my very core group of girls.
01:11And we have our little group chat, and we were just keeping each other updated.
01:14Like, oh, when the show comes out, you know the typical stuff.
01:16Like, when it comes out, we should get together, try to watch it.
01:19And then it drops, and then just rapidly started gaining attention.
01:25And then, I don't know how many days passed, or weeks, or I don't know how long it was.
01:29But then I just wake up with a text of, like, guys, we're on Cosmo.
01:33And I was like, what?
01:35And, like, what? And I thought they were joking.
01:38So I was like, okay, ha, ha, ha, Cosmo.
01:39And then she sends the link in the group chat, and it was Cosmo.
01:43So, yeah, very unexpected and very exciting.
01:47The love has been amazing.
01:50So, yeah, thank you guys a lot.
01:52Oh, my gosh.
01:52Really appreciate it.
01:53What was that like for you to be like, wait, I'm in Cosmopolitan.
01:56Like, that's, like, when we were younger, too.
01:58Like, an iconic, like, huge mag.
02:00I know. I know.
02:01It's, I don't know, surreal.
02:03I went to go, because it's Cosmo Philippines, which I want to go visit one day.
02:07So, so bad.
02:08And meet everybody, hopefully.
02:10I know.
02:11Imagine if all the, like, girls just, like, went.
02:13Oh, my gosh.
02:14Had a little meet and greet.
02:15We have to.
02:16The vertical girls.
02:17Yes.
02:18Wouldn't that be so fun?
02:19We have to.
02:19I know, I know.
02:20One day, maybe.
02:21What was it like just, you know, going online and reading an article that you're starring in?
02:26Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:26So, I opened it, and then it was just crazy to see, first of all, my name.
02:32Yeah.
02:32My full name, just, like, in an article was wild.
02:36And then they actually, you know, expanded on my acting, which was so, like, you know,
02:40that's what every actor wants.
02:42Like, for them to be, like, their acting was impactful, and, like, we loved the choices
02:45they made, or whatever.
02:46Like, the little tiny decisions that we make when we're filming that they catch.
02:50It's like, you caught that?
02:51Like, oh, my gosh.
02:52I placed that there just for you.
02:53Well, it's kind of like, I feel like when you're acting and you're playing a role, especially
02:58something as big and iconic as the role that you played in that show, it's like, we, on
03:04set, you don't really get affirmations.
03:07If anything, it's just move on, and that's a good thing.
03:10If no one's telling you notes, if no one's giving you any discussion about what you're
03:14doing, then it's kind of like, okay, I'm doing a good job.
03:17But to read it in writing on the internet that you're just killing it is such a nice thing
03:22because it's hard.
03:23We don't really hear that ever.
03:24Yeah, no, I mean, because it's like, you're playing, I mean, a villain, you know what I
03:28mean?
03:29And most of the time, the things you're doing on the show, it's like, not nice.
03:32Oh, my gosh.
03:33Okay, so since you brought that up, I would love to go into, you play such a good villain.
03:39Thank you so much.
03:40You're welcome.
03:41Tell me just a little bit about what it's like playing a villain, and then obviously you're
03:45super bubbly and sweet in real life.
03:46Just the contrast of that.
03:48And does it ever kind of get to you, people thinking that you're mean?
03:53Or how has that been for you?
03:55I mean, 100%.
03:57You know, you get your fair share of people that genuinely think you're the character you're
04:01playing.
04:02And like, you know, I don't know if you've had your fair share of DMs of like...
04:05Yeah.
04:06Oh, many, many that are actually like, horrible, where I'm like, damn, like, okay, like, I'm
04:14just a person.
04:15Have you?
04:16I mean, what do your DMs look like?
04:18Is it kind of thirsty guys?
04:20Or is it people loving you or hating you?
04:23Or all three?
04:24Yeah, all of you both.
04:25Okay.
04:25A little bit of everything.
04:27A mixed bag.
04:28Which is good to hear.
04:29You know, I don't want a bit of every, like, of specific things.
04:31Um, you know, your fair share of little creeps of like old guys of like, you know, here are
04:37feet pics or this or that, all the...
04:40They want the feet.
04:41Yeah, they want the feet.
04:43But that's why they stay covered.
04:44Oh my God.
04:44And socks on.
04:44Yeah, always.
04:45Layers, layers.
04:47Um, but then it's the people that are like, I don't know what age range they are, but it's
04:52like, you will never be the queen bee.
04:54Like, you are not the capitalist heiress.
04:56Like, I will take you down.
04:57So it's nothing to the point where it's like, I feel like yours probably are more intense and crazy.
05:02Like, I will take you down.
05:03Yeah.
05:04Yeah.
05:04I have like, death threats.
05:06You see, I haven't gotten that.
05:07I'm like, Jesus.
05:08That's, but I feel like maybe your characters have done some crazy...
05:12I mean, I stole someone's identity.
05:14Okay.
05:15But I haven't...
05:16I don't know.
05:17What's the...
05:17I'm flipping this around.
05:18I'm sorry.
05:19I'm not doing it.
05:19But what's the craziest thing you've done?
05:20Oh, man.
05:22There's so much.
05:23I know.
05:24Dude, I got asked that question the other day and I was like, I don't really know.
05:27I mean, I actually recently, I just hired a maid to steal the sperm of the wealthy billionaire,
05:37but she ended up using her own husband's sperm.
05:39So I put it up me and then it wasn't the...
05:43It wasn't the rich guy's baby.
05:47It was the maid's husband's baby.
05:48So then my character is just terrible.
05:50So she's like, and like hates the baby.
05:53Then the baby comes out and she wants to kill it.
05:55I need to watch this.
05:56Yeah.
05:57It's a, that, that, maybe.
05:59That is juicy.
06:00What about you?
06:01What's the most disturbing thing you've done?
06:04I was thinking about it and then...
06:06It's a hard...
06:07It's honestly, it's kind of like, I don't...
06:09Like you have to think about all the shows you've done.
06:10It's like, I don't really know.
06:12Are yours like lighter villain where it's not as like sinister?
06:15I feel like the dialogue is what's more like mean.
06:19And it's just like, why would you say that?
06:20But the things themselves, I'm like, it's the typical high school stuff.
06:23Like stealing her clothes from the locker room.
06:25So then she doesn't have anything.
06:26Which is still horrible.
06:28Dramatizing.
06:29But like, I don't think that like counts for like death threats.
06:33I've never received death threats for that.
06:34I know.
06:35I'll be like, okay.
06:36Like, okay.
06:39I'm good, guys.
06:40I'm already having a rough day.
06:41Like, yeah.
06:42LOL.
06:43I get it.
06:44Same.
06:44Yeah.
06:45XOXO.
06:47Oh my gosh.
06:48Okay.
06:48So would you talk a bit about your two favorite villain roles that you've had and like the
06:53contrast of both of them?
06:56Okay.
06:57Well, obviously Candace.
06:58Yeah.
06:59She's changed everything for me.
07:01Is she like the one?
07:01Do you resonate with her the most?
07:03Did you like playing her?
07:06Resonate.
07:06I don't know.
07:08Here's the thing.
07:08Because I'm sure maybe you come from the same, like you had the same belief, but like
07:11you can't judge the character you're playing.
07:14You know, you have to find their tics and like, why do they do what they do?
07:18Right.
07:18And their childhood traumas and da-da-da-da-da, you know.
07:21So it's like, I don't know if I, maybe just the feeling of being wanted and being included.
07:29You know what I mean?
07:30Because at the very end of the show, she's exposed, like she repeated grades a million
07:34times.
07:35Like she did not, she had the braces, the cliche, like she just didn't look, she wasn't who
07:38she wanted to be.
07:39So then it's like, imagine working so hard for something just for someone, even though
07:44it's wrong.
07:44It's wrong.
07:45Don't steal people's identities.
07:47Um, but you work so hard for something and then someone in this little girl just comes
07:52and just tears it all down.
07:54So I resonate with Candice, like in that way of like when someone just tries to dismantle
07:58all your hard work.
07:59But other than that, she's pretty, she takes it to pretty far lengths, you know?
08:04Yeah.
08:05So being on set like that, was it different for you in the sense of being able to collaborate
08:12more with just females and just like empower each other, being a girl's girl?
08:16Like what's that like in the industry for you?
08:20Huh?
08:21Being a girl's girl in the industry?
08:22Yeah.
08:23Mm.
08:23I think it's, it's everything to me personally.
08:26Um, so I grew up going to like conservatory, like style high school.
08:30So instead of like, it was very competitive, but it wasn't your cliche, like, oh, you have
08:36the mean girls and the popular girls that like talk about your looks or this or that.
08:39It was always like talent.
08:41You know what I mean?
08:42I'm like, it's even worse.
08:43It's, it's brutal.
08:44It's brutal.
08:45Like I can sing better than you.
08:47I can act better than you.
08:48Yeah.
08:48I can do this or all that stuff.
08:50Oh God, I could throw up.
08:51I know.
08:52But I, since I'm so used to that environment, I've just found that like it, it doesn't get
08:58you anywhere.
08:59It doesn't benefit you at all.
09:01And it's like, I am a genuine believer of the corny, all the corny cliches that like you
09:06are unique.
09:07There's only one you like, sure.
09:08There's another brunette, brown eyed, beautiful girl.
09:10But like, we both bring something different to the table.
09:13You know what I mean?
09:14So what's the point in tearing each other down?
09:18You know what I mean?
09:18So like when I hear girls on set and they're like, oh my God, I don't have any reps or,
09:23oh my gosh, I don't have any acting classes.
09:24It's not that I'm currently not in any, looking for some, but just anything.
09:30If I just hear a fellow girl saying, I need this, I need that, I've been looking and I know
09:35headshots, this, that, anything when it comes to the industry, I'm like, here you go.
09:39Yeah.
09:39Like, let me help you out.
09:40Like, why not?
09:41Like, I know another girl that she was like, I don't have any reps.
09:44And then I was like, you can try mine out.
09:46You might hate them.
09:47You might love them.
09:48And now she's fucking.
09:50And I'm like, I'm so proud of you.
09:52Like, like, it's like, I don't expect anything from it.
09:54It's just, I don't know.
09:56Oh my gosh.
09:57Okay.
09:57So you're from Miami, right?
09:59Yes.
09:59So fun.
10:00Okay.
10:00So when did you move to LA?
10:03About a year and a half ago.
10:05Oh my God.
10:06Yeah, it's very new.
10:07So you're new.
10:09Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:10Okay.
10:10So tell me, do you like LA?
10:12Do you hate it?
10:13Do you think it's like, what's the vibe for you?
10:15Okay.
10:15So.
10:16Weird time.
10:16It's, it's, what's this called?
10:19It's, it's not too different, honestly, other than like, okay.
10:22So geographically, like in Miami, everything's like flat.
10:27We don't have mountains.
10:28Yeah.
10:29It's very humid.
10:30So like over here, it's dry and we can go like hiking and all that stuff.
10:34So I like that we have that here.
10:35Yeah.
10:36I unfortunately still don't have a car.
10:38So it's like really hard to get around.
10:39Yeah.
10:40Yeah.
10:41You'll get one.
10:41You need a car in LA.
10:43If you're planning on moving out here, get that car.
10:45I like it.
10:46I like it.
10:46It's not too different.
10:48Those are the only things like immediately that I can think of that are different about
10:51it.
10:51Yeah.
10:52And then the people is what's different.
10:53Like, obviously I'm very Cuban.
10:56I'm very Cuban and Latina.
10:59So like back home, I just get all my little like Spanish ladies and all my Spanish speaking
11:02people like.
11:02And I'm just like, hi.
11:06And then here.
11:07It's like.
11:08Yeah.
11:10So tell me.
11:10That exact face.
11:11How long have you been in LA?
11:12Who's your dad?
11:13Yeah.
11:14How many followers?
11:15I am.
11:15Thankfully, like I've met some kind people like, you know, I found like and it's been
11:20on set, you know, it would have been on these sets that I've met like the sweetest people
11:24and I'm just like, oh, humans with hearts.
11:28But then you just meet your other fair share of people that it's like, OK, this is like
11:32the industry side, like the competitive, like the Hollywood.
11:36Do you go out?
11:37Um, yes, but like not as much as I thought I would.
11:44OK, because like when people when I tell people I'm from Miami, they're like, oh, yeah,
11:47like, oh, party bad.
11:49So you're like out till 7 a.m.
11:51I'm like, oh, no, no, no, no, no.
11:53Like it's also because I didn't I never bought a fake.
11:56I never did all that because I'm so stingy with my money.
11:59So I was just like, if they snap that card in front of my face, I'm going to have a fit.
12:04So I waited till I turned 21 and I was out here for that.
12:07So now is when I've like gone out more.
12:09But even then, I feel like I've never gone to like a club, like something that I've left
12:14and I'm like, oh, that was a club.
12:16I've been to like bars and stuff like that.
12:18But yeah, I'm still waiting to experience.
12:21I love dancing, though.
12:22Dancing is extremely important to me.
12:24There's a couple of places we should go to.
12:25I forget the name of it.
12:26It's literally like a Cuban dancing, like vibe place.
12:30Oh, my gosh.
12:31I forget the name of it.
12:32If anyone knows, comment it or if anybody here knows, you know what I'm talking about.
12:35I've heard of like Floridita.
12:36That's where my-
12:37Maybe that's it.
12:38My cousin used to go there.
12:39That was like her spot.
12:39Yeah, it's like, it's a vibe.
12:41It's really fun.
12:41It's really fun.
12:42The thing I noticed about, I'm from New York and-
12:46Oh, okay.
12:46So the difference is like here in LA, I feel like the culture of going out is a little
12:50bit more like closed off where people aren't like, hey!
12:54It's a little like, kind of.
12:58So that's why I was curious if Miami is different in that sense.
13:02Oh, I mean, when I did go out, hmm, people are wild in Miami.
13:08Oh, yeah.
13:08They saw it off.
13:09I feel like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
13:10There's crazy things over there.
13:11And I feel like I didn't even, I probably haven't even seen half of it.
13:15But you know what I haven't experienced?
13:17Like a crazy yacht party, which is like, you know, the typical Miami thing.
13:21Yeah, yeah.
13:22But I don't know.
13:22People get crazy.
13:23I've seen pretty crazy stuff here too.
13:24So I feel like it's pretty equal.
13:26They're both big cities.
13:27I don't know.
13:28Do you, okay, so talking about kind of like going out vibes, you don't go out that much.
13:32I don't, I'm a literal grandma.
13:33I don't leave the house unless I'm here.
13:36But do you do anything to prepare for set?
13:39Like, do you have a routine?
13:40Like, what do you do with your face or your, do you have like a thing you do or do you just
13:45rock up?
13:46I'm trying to get better at that.
13:48I'm trying to, you know why?
13:49It's because like scrolling through social media and TikTok, like you see sleep.
13:53What is it?
13:54Slugging, get ready with me, taking off my mask.
13:58What is it?
13:58Shed.
13:59Morning shed.
14:00Yeah, yeah.
14:00And I was like, oh God, I should do something.
14:03But like, I just, I can't do all that.
14:05It's a lot.
14:06I'm a simple gal.
14:07Yeah.
14:08So like yesterday I did like a face mask.
14:10Like, you know those loop target face masks?
14:13Yes.
14:13Oh my God.
14:14Love it.
14:14It was so refreshing.
14:15Did that for like 10, 20 minutes.
14:17And then just a good shower, you know, just relax the night before, memorize my lines
14:22a little bit.
14:23And then not really.
14:26And then just like music.
14:28I love when music girl.
14:29Yes.
14:29I need music.
14:30Like there are certain times where I'll pick certain songs for certain characters, but
14:35I feel like these last, like for Candice, I didn't.
14:38I mean, I played Brat a lot and Olivia Rodrigo a lot.
14:41So maybe those two artists, but not, I didn't, I didn't make a playlist specifically for Candice,
14:47but I think that's a lot of fun to do as well to make like playlists for your.
14:51That's cool.
14:51That's a cool little thing.
14:52Yeah, yeah, yeah.
14:52Sometimes I'll give them zodiac signs.
14:54Do you ever, have you ever done that?
14:56What would Candice be?
14:58Oh.
14:59I feel like a squarp.
15:01Really?
15:02What are you going to say?
15:04She has to be something fire.
15:06Aries?
15:08Aries.
15:08What are you?
15:09I'm a Pisces.
15:10I knew it!
15:11Girl, same!
15:13Are you?
15:14Yay!
15:14Woo!
15:15Wait, what's your birthday?
15:17March 12th.
15:19Don't, don't.
15:21I'm literally the 11th.
15:22No!
15:24Sarah!
15:25Oh my God!
15:26I love this!
15:28Oh my God, am I crying?
15:29Tearing up our Pisces emotional.
15:32No, actually.
15:33Oh my God!
15:35Our birthday is coming up!
15:36Okay, literally, we, oh my God, we're the same person!
15:42But it's perfect because you're blonde.
15:43Oh my God!
15:44I'm an emotional gal.
15:45No, literally, I cry every day.
15:47The villains are emotional.
15:49Oh my God!
15:49You cry.
15:50All the time.
15:51All the time.
15:52Every day.
15:52All the freaking time.
15:54Oh my God, I love that.
15:56Yeah.
15:56You knew it.
15:57Oh my God.
15:58Okay, so speaking of crying all the time, did you ever have high school drama growing
16:03up?
16:03Like, did you cry in high school?
16:04Like, what were you?
16:05Were you an emo girl?
16:06Like, what?
16:07Or theater girl?
16:08Like...
16:08Theater girl.
16:09Okay.
16:09Like, theater girl to the core.
16:11And Pisces, so bi.
16:12Oh my gosh, yeah.
16:13And I...
16:14It's a shipwreck.
16:15If we're getting into it, into it, my moon's also Pisces.
16:17So it's like...
16:18What's the middle one?
16:20It's like, moon is supposed to be like your emotions.
16:22Wait, okay, so you're Pisces, Pisces...
16:25And then Virgo, which makes no sense.
16:27Which are opposite.
16:28But yeah.
16:28Oh my God, I'm literally a Virgo rising too.
16:33Sarah, get out.
16:34We're the same actual...
16:35Oh my God.
16:38Well, the Virgo in you, you work really hard.
16:40And you hustle.
16:42Like, that's, I feel like, in there.
16:44Yeah, so going back to the hustling, I feel like, in school, drama, hmm, always about who's
16:51going to get what part.
16:51Oh my God.
16:52Clearly.
16:52You know, there's always the part that you want the lead girl or something, and then
16:55you don't get it.
16:56Were you that?
16:57Were you ever given the lead growing up?
16:59No.
16:59I feel that.
17:00I was, I was slept on in high school.
17:02Oh girl, I feel you.
17:03Yeah, you know what I mean?
17:04Yeah, I do.
17:05Hey, at least we didn't peak in high school.
17:07Fair.
17:08That would have been sad.
17:09Oh my God.
17:10Okay, also, like, sorry if any of these people are watching, but not sorry.
17:15Some of the people, because I did theater growing up too, who were, you know, the lead
17:18baby girl, like the hot girl, like always, like, they ain't doing s*** now.
17:23What about you?
17:24Let me tell you.
17:24How about the beanies from high school?
17:27Yeah, I mean, like, everybody's path is different, you know what I mean?
17:30But, like, the school that I went to, they were very set on you going to college.
17:34And these specific girls, I think, or girls with this mentality, I think they're just used
17:41to having everything handed to them, you know what I mean?
17:46Not earning what they get.
17:48So, I think in high school, they're given, given, given, like, everything, the lead,
17:53the this, the that, and then they're used to that, and then they step out into the real
17:57world, you know what I mean?
17:58Or, not even yet, because I didn't, did you go to college?
18:00Yeah, I did.
18:01I didn't end up going to college.
18:02I worked out.
18:03Honestly, who?
18:04Fuck you.
18:04Yeah, I just decided, just because if I could financially, I would have definitely done
18:08it, but financially, it wasn't the best decision, and then I was just like...
18:10It's a lot.
18:12And for acting, I was like, I'd rather just, like, people watch.
18:16Oh, fair enough.
18:17And step into acting classes, and, like, because acting classes are expensive out here, too.
18:21Oh, for sure.
18:21So, I'm like, I'd rather invest my time and money elsewhere, so I worked at Trader Joe's
18:25for a year and a half.
18:26Oh, my God.
18:27Wait, that's so...
18:28I have questions about that.
18:29I love everybody who works there.
18:30Stocking shelves and being nice to people.
18:32They're so nice.
18:32Yeah.
18:33Is there a thing that you...
18:34Everybody always asks.
18:35Is there?
18:36They're like, do they pay you to flirt with us?
18:38And I was like, no, no, we do not.
18:40Is there a meeting, though?
18:42Sorry to interject this, but is there a meeting when you're getting hired, like, oh, you have
18:45to be, like, really nice to people?
18:47They say that we just have to be very attentive, so that's what gets annoying.
18:50Like, we have to go up to you and ask you if you need any help.
18:53So, it's, like, uncomfortable for us when, like, there's someone wearing headphones, and
18:57they clearly just want to get one thing and get out of the grocery store, and I'm just
19:00like...
19:01You need any help with anything?
19:04And they're like, no, I have my f***ing tofu.
19:06Exactly.
19:07Like, I just want to grab my sparkling water and leave.
19:09So, but that was other than that.
19:11So, it's...
19:12You're telling me now it's natural?
19:14Like, everyone at the checkout who's just like, so what you making for dinner tonight?
19:18Like, they're actually just, like, a nice, curious human.
19:20We're just trying to make the time pass, you know?
19:22I feel you.
19:23You know what I mean?
19:24Like, we're all just...
19:25Oh, my God.
19:26Yeah.
19:26They don't say you must be nice, but I just think you won't be hired if you're not.
19:29And they can just tell.
19:30You're hired for the human you are, definitely.
19:32Aww.
19:33And then, like, cool vibes or whatever.
19:35The look.
19:35Yeah.
19:36Like, trendy.
19:37Yeah, yeah, yeah.
19:38Yeah.
19:38But, yeah, so while I was working, going back to the OG questions.
19:41Yeah, sorry.
19:42We're everywhere.
19:43Sorry.
19:43Yeah.
19:43I, I, Trader Joe's Pisces, I'm like, wait, yeah.
19:46I got us.
19:46I got us.
19:47Yeah.
19:47Um, they were at college and, like, living up their dreams and stuff like that.
19:51Like, the people that, you know, like, not that they did me dirty, but, you know, it's
19:55just, we had our differences.
19:58Yeah.
19:58And things didn't work out.
19:59Life happens.
20:00And then, like, now I'm on a podcast.
20:04Oh.
20:04You know what I mean?
20:05Doing.
20:06Also, like, getting shoutouts in Cosmopolitan and slaying the game as a protagonist and lead
20:12villain.
20:13You know, I do it all, girl.
20:15Thank you so much.
20:15This is just a start for you.
20:16It's going to come rolling in for you.
20:18We need to, like, that's another thing about, like, being a girl's girl.
20:22Like, we need to learn how to, like, humbly brag.
20:25Was that English?
20:25But you know what I mean?
20:26Like, just, like, talk about our accomplishments.
20:28Oh, my God.
20:28Isn't it the hardest thing, though?
20:29It's so hard to give yourself credit.
20:31And it's just like, but I did it.
20:33Like, I moved to L.A. by myself after working at Trader Joe's for a year and a half, being
20:38so sad.
20:39Lost all my friends.
20:40Yeah.
20:40And now I'm, like, you know, still working every day.
20:44It's still scary every day.
20:45But I'm living my dream.
20:46And I'm doing it.
20:47And, like, all that high school drama made me who I am today.
20:52Truly.
20:53It sounds so, like, not, like, but, like, because this is crazy.
20:56COVID hit my senior year.
20:58So it was, like, I didn't get to graduate.
21:00I didn't get prom.
21:01So you guys weren't in school, right?
21:03No.
21:03You're at home.
21:04So you were at home and doing online classes.
21:06It was, like, everything was falling apart.
21:08Everything was falling apart.
21:09So it was, like, the high school drama, which was, like, my lifelong friends, basically,
21:14that was just falling apart.
21:15Yeah.
21:16And then COVID hit.
21:20Didn't get to graduate.
21:20So I was just really, really, like, sad, you know, like, everyone.
21:25I think the whole world was kind of mourning, kind of sad during that pandemic.
21:29But especially being in school when you're, like, I guess I'm just graduating in my living room with my dog.
21:35It's exactly what I did.
21:37Yeah.
21:37You're, like, all right.
21:37Literally in my living room, I graduated.
21:40So, but it made it all worth it because it changed my brain.
21:44I don't know.
21:45It changed who I am.
21:46And now I'm excited for 25 because doesn't, like, your frontal lobe fully develop or something?
21:50It does.
21:51I'm ready for 25.
21:53Allegedly.
21:54But, honey, I'm still.
21:56You said it's so messed up.
21:58It's still up in there, but, you know.
22:00You got time?
22:00Yeah.
22:01You got time?
22:02No, yeah.
22:04Oh, my gosh.
22:05So going back a little bit to the high school drama thing.
22:09So, like, with the, was it girls?
22:12Like, were they, was it kind of just, like, were the lead girls and, like, you're not it?
22:17It was.
22:17Like, what was the vibe?
22:18The girls' gays amaze.
22:20It was, it was all of them.
22:21It wasn't just the girls.
22:22Oh.
22:23And I'm.
22:24That's even scarier.
22:25I know.
22:26I'm, like, ally to the day.
22:28I love, like, the LGBTQ community is something that I'm very passionate about.
22:32And it's just been in my life for a long time.
22:34I was a dancer growing up.
22:36So, like, we have, like, our guy dancers and all that stuff.
22:38The high school drama, was it kind of, like.
22:41Was it the girls?
22:41Like, the girly pops.
22:42You're like, I'm the lead.
22:43And, like, you're the f***ing supporting.
22:44Like, get in line.
22:45You don't get the solo.
22:46Or, like, what was it?
22:47It was honestly, like, it was the girls and then also, like, my best friend at the time.
22:51Like, I had, like, a gay, the typical gay best friend.
22:53You know what I mean?
22:54And I had, we were together for years.
22:55Like, inseparable, at the hip.
22:58And, like, I still, like, I'm always going to have love in my heart for that, for that boy.
23:03Like, he literally wished him the best.
23:05But honestly, those kind of, he was extremely talented.
23:08But those kind of guys that were very, like, competitive and just, you know, keep your head in the game.
23:15And, like, I will kind of take you down even if you're in my way a little bit type five.
23:19And I just was never like that.
23:23Girls, gays or theys, anybody.
23:24Doesn't matter what you are.
23:27I'm just saying it wasn't specifically girls.
23:29It was everybody.
23:31And, you know, I picked my moments of when I'm going to, like, like, you know, I pick and chose my battles.
23:40Because not everything is going to, it's not everything's worth it.
23:42But when it came to, like, parts and stuff, it was more like personal friendship arguments.
23:48It was never about roles.
23:49Yeah.
23:49Because I already knew.
23:51I already knew that I was like, shh.
23:53This is so, like, dumb.
23:55But have you seen the movie The Duff?
23:57No.
23:58Oh, my God.
23:58But basically, guys, let me tell you something.
24:02Duff, it stands for designated ugly fat friend.
24:07Crazy, right?
24:07Was it you?
24:08That's a movie.
24:08No, no, no.
24:09Oh, like, girl.
24:10No, it was like, I was not, like, an ugly, like, oh, what was me?
24:14I was ugly.
24:15You were, like, the rat.
24:15But, like, I just wasn't, like, I'm a late bloomer.
24:17That's the good way of putting it.
24:19I should have just said that.
24:19You weren't, like, the chosen one in high school.
24:22Exactly.
24:22That everyone, like, sucked.
24:24Exactly.
24:25My friends were the chosen ones.
24:26Okay.
24:27So I was used to that.
24:28I was used to, like, let's call this person Pedro.
24:31So, like, if they wanted to talk to Pedro, they would come to me to talk to Pedro.
24:35So I knew that I wasn't the it girl.
24:38You know what I mean?
24:38I wasn't Pedro.
24:39I wasn't Carla, whoever you are.
24:41Yeah, yeah, yeah.
24:42Made up names.
24:43And what's this called?
24:46So I just knew, like, I'm not going to get the lead.
24:48I'm not going to get anything.
24:49Like, where I knew that I was going to dominate was dancing.
24:52That was my strong thing.
24:53Oh, cool.
24:54That I was like, I was like, nobody can tell me anything.
24:56Not here.
24:57Because the dancers, the strongest dancers, though, were always ensemble.
25:00Because did you do musical theater or just?
25:02Yeah.
25:02So, you know.
25:03So if you were a strong dancer, you're going to be ensemble leading the ensemble.
25:06So I was always in the back and I was used to that.
25:09So I wasn't really upset with them if they got a lead part or got something like that.
25:12But it was more of like a, we had a rule at school where it's like, if you did the musical, you couldn't do the play.
25:18Because rehearsals would happen at the same time.
25:20Oh, okay.
25:20You know what I mean?
25:21Yeah.
25:21But then my friend, there was favoritism and, like, the Pedros and Carlas of the world would find a way to, like, you know, be able to do both.
25:28Yeah.
25:29And it's like, what?
25:30Special treatment.
25:31Yeah.
25:32It's just, it's everywhere.
25:33It's not going to leave anytime soon.
25:34It doesn't.
25:35It's, in our industry, it's, I think it even goes up to the highest level.
25:40Yeah.
25:40As well.
25:41Which is just, you know, something we deal with and just how to navigate that nowadays and professionally.
25:47Yeah.
25:47Oh, my gosh.
25:48High school drama, but in the real world now.
25:50Yeah, right.
25:51Real world drama.
25:52It never ends.
25:53You know what's something interesting?
25:55So, you went to an acting high school?
25:58Yeah, like an art school.
25:58So, I went to an acting conservatory after college and it was freaking awesome.
26:06It was so rigorous.
26:07It was so hard.
26:08It was.
26:09Where?
26:10Meisner.
26:11It was a Meisner.
26:11It was Maggie Flanagan Acting Conservatory.
26:14It's incredible.
26:15Five stars all around.
26:16It shaped me as a person.
26:18But one thing I did notice about the school that I feel like I felt was that I never fit in there.
26:26I was always a little bit on the outskirts because everyone was so, like, obsessed with the culture in there and obsessed with each other and just sucked the artist out of each other and was like a circle jerk kind of of that.
26:36And it was great, but I just wasn't, like, cool in their group.
26:41Yeah.
26:41And I feel like the school, the only thing is, like, it doesn't really teach you how to act outside of the friendship obsession kind of on set necessarily.
26:53And I don't know.
26:55I think that did a lot of actors some disservice of not being able to, like, it was just too much of a cult almost.
27:01And if you're not, like, the cool kid at school, you're kind of just, like, shoved to the side a little.
27:08And I felt that.
27:09Was that kind of how you felt at school?
27:11There's, like, we started off with, like, freshmen's, like, a, I don't know, maybe, like, 20.
27:16We were still a small, a tiny school because you have to audition, you have to get in.
27:20And it's one of those schools that's, like, oh, it's hard to get into that school.
27:23I was even shocked when I got in.
27:25Which I shouldn't have been.
27:26I got in and, like, by the end of our senior year, like, half of our class was, like, I hate acting.
27:32Like, this school has made me hate acting.
27:34Like, I'm going to be a doctor.
27:35I'm going to be a lawyer.
27:36Like, they just completely changed professions.
27:38And it's, like, and I get that.
27:40I respect where you're coming from because, like, it was tough.
27:43Like, it was really, really late nights.
27:44And, like, it's, like, they would, like, keep you, keep you till, like, if we keep you till 9, then you can miss first period.
27:51But they would keep this till 8.59.
27:54And they'll be, like, go home.
27:54And you have to be back in time till first period.
27:57Oh, my God.
27:57You guys are, like, slick.
27:59Like, so it's, it was tough in the moment.
28:02But I'm, they were right.
28:04They get the biggest I told you so ever.
28:07That specific school does.
28:08Because in the moment, like, I hated it.
28:10Like, not hated acting.
28:11I've never hated it.
28:12But it was just, like, it felt like busy work.
28:14I was, like, you're just giving me work to give me work.
28:16Not for the craft.
28:17Not to, like, light the fire in us.
28:19Yeah.
28:20Kind of.
28:20Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
28:21But then I left.
28:22And, like, I got to, like, college auditions.
28:24And, like, the most basic things, like, I don't even know.
28:28Like, a simple, like, you know how, like, you do, like, you have to warm up the body.
28:31So you use your breath.
28:32And then you do a body roll down, roll up.
28:34And, like, just a basic warm up.
28:36And things that I've been doing since freshman year.
28:38And there was people there were going to enter our freshman year in college that didn't even know that.
28:42And I was, like, yeah.
28:44Wow.
28:44Yeah.
28:45Like, and they would always be, like, watch.
28:47You're going to get into the real world.
28:48And you're going to be, like, thank you.
28:49It was called New World School of the Arts.
28:52Hello.
28:53Hello.
28:54Thank you so much for everything.
28:56Um, but they were, like, you'll see.
28:58You'll see.
28:58And I did see.
29:00It is true.
29:01Like, doing that deep training, the program I went to, too.
29:04I felt, like, in the moment, I'm, like, this is so hard.
29:07And, like, I feel, like, such a failure and a piece of s***, kind of.
29:10And then out of it, you're, like, oh, wow.
29:12This makes, like, the real world jobs so much easier.
29:16It just prepares you a bit more.
29:18Yeah.
29:18Like, it's, yeah.
29:20It's still difficult, but.
29:21Oh, gosh.
29:22So, I feel like both of us have had a really similar experience with going to amazing acting
29:27schools, but then kind of feeling a little left out of, like, you know, the friend groups
29:31there and just feeling a little, like, the black sheep of the group, almost.
29:36And do you have advice for young people who might be going through that either in acting
29:42school or just in a friend group at high school or just, you know, in life?
29:47Yeah.
29:48I feel like when I was going through that, like, I really just thought about, like, little
29:55me.
29:56Yeah.
29:56And I don't know how, like, everybody's different as a child.
29:59But for me personally, like, I was just, I was such a bright, energetic, like, I'm such
30:05a tiny little thing, but I would take up all the space in the room.
30:07You know what I mean?
30:08Yeah.
30:09And I was so unapologetic about it.
30:11Like, never going to apologize for how much space I'm taking.
30:13And I feel like once I went into school, they kind of, you know what I mean?
30:19Like, they kind of dim that light a little bit.
30:20Yeah.
30:20And they just kind of make you feel.
30:21They make you feel apologetic.
30:23Like, they make you feel sorry for being weird or outspoken or whatever.
30:27And then, I don't know, during the pandemic, I really just thought to myself, like, all I
30:35have is me at the end of the day.
30:37You know what I mean?
30:37And when I was little, nobody could tell me anything.
30:40And I'm still that girl.
30:41I'm the same little girl that was putting on performances for my family in the living
30:45room and, like, demanded that they sat down and I'm going to sing this song three times
30:50in a row and you're going to clap and be happy every time.
30:53Yeah, yeah, yeah.
30:53And they did.
30:54And it was so fun.
30:55It's like, I don't know.
30:58It's corny cliches.
31:00It's all about believing in yourself.
31:02Yeah.
31:02And just never quitting.
31:03Because this, specifically this industry, like, acting, it's just so much rejection.
31:10So much rejection.
31:11Oh, my God.
31:12But I say it's rejection till it's not.
31:14You know what I mean?
31:15One of them is going to eventually stick.
31:17And that's what it is.
31:18Truly, it's like the waiting game.
31:20You know what I mean?
31:20I might book my first crazy big thing when I'm, like, 70.
31:25Maybe I'm like Morgan Freeman.
31:26But, hey, if that's what's meant to happen, that's what's meant to happen.
31:30And now we have so many of the greats, like, Glenn Close, Meryl Streep.
31:33Like, look at, what's her, Demi Moore.
31:36She just did The Substance.
31:37Oh, my God.
31:37And she got 70.
31:37Yeah.
31:38So many amazing things happening that it's just like, my time will come.
31:42You need to know that your time will come.
31:44You just can't quit.
31:45Because when you quit, that's when.
31:47It's done.
31:47That's when it's done.
31:48Yeah.
31:48That's when no one's going to come knocking on your door.
31:50You know what I mean?
31:51No.
31:51So think of little you.
31:53Talk to little you for a second.
31:54And just don't quit.
31:56Is what I would say.
31:58Yeah.
31:58Do you have any really terrible audition stories?
32:03Like, did you ever bomb an audition?
32:05Oh, my gosh.
32:05Yes.
32:06What's the worst audition you've done or experience or, like, what happened?
32:10I want to start doing this because I feel like everyone's like, oh, my God, she's such a celebrity.
32:14Look at her.
32:14She's so amazing.
32:15But, like, you probably.
32:16Oh, God.
32:17Yeah.
32:17What was the worst audition you had?
32:20Man, I mean, the first ones was, like, the cliche, the Internet just crashed.
32:27Like, you've been there waiting for 30 minutes, literally waiting in that waiting room, like, staring at the camera, like, and you're not hooked up on Wi-Fi.
32:34And then right when they come in, it's like, we can't hear you.
32:38So that just sucks.
32:39That's just terrible luck.
32:41But then, so basically, I had this audition for, like, a huge movie.
32:50Ah, heck, life is short.
32:52I had enough for the new Jurassic Park movie.
32:54It just, the trailer just came out.
32:55Oh, my gosh.
32:56And I did the audition and I was like, it was like, girl, Jurassic Park.
33:01Like, let's be real here.
33:02Like, that's going to be your first thing.
33:04Yeah.
33:06But then I got a call back.
33:07Oh, that's amazing.
33:09Also, congrats.
33:10Thank you so much.
33:11This was a while ago now, but I passed out.
33:14Passed out.
33:15And I was like, all right, all right.
33:16So in school, I learned that you need to wear what you wore in your audition to your callback so they remember who you are.
33:23But this certain shirt that I wore had a huge stain on it.
33:28Huge stain.
33:29And I was like, she won't see it.
33:31She won't see the stain.
33:32She won't.
33:32And this casting director, she's cast.
33:35She's huge.
33:37So I was like, she won't see it.
33:38It's fine.
33:39Just get ready to talk to her.
33:40Or whatever.
33:40I step into my callback.
33:41And she's like, looking at me.
33:42And she's just like, yeah, hi.
33:44How are you?
33:45You don't have a different shirt?
33:47Oh.
33:47And I was like, was this in person?
33:49It was on Zoom.
33:50It was on Zoom.
33:51And this is like, she casts everything.
33:53I don't know.
33:53Carla Houle.
33:54She does Stranger Things.
33:55Marvel does that.
33:56Yeah, yeah, yeah.
33:56Like, even if I don't get Jurassic, like, maybe you'll remember me.
33:59Yeah, yeah.
33:59Fingers crossed.
34:00And all I can think of is, you don't have a different shirt.
34:04And I'm like, that's my first impression.
34:05Where was this stain?
34:06Oh, girl, it was bad.
34:07What color was it?
34:08I'm dumb.
34:09Me thinking that I'm going to wear a white little tank top.
34:11And it's, like, yellowy, like, towards the bottom.
34:14But I was like, I'll just, like, position the camera, like, perfectly so that it's not in there.
34:18And she's just like, you can just see it right when I picked up the camera.
34:21She's just like, oh, no.
34:23And I was like, this is it.
34:24She clopped you.
34:24She clopped me.
34:25But then I was like, can I go change really quick?
34:27And she, like, giggled.
34:28And I was like, okay.
34:30We bonded over being Hispanic.
34:32Oh, good.
34:33It was good.
34:33It ended up being, it wasn't a bad audition, the fact that I even got a callback.
34:37I mean, she'll remember you now.
34:39Oh, my God.
34:39Stain Girl.
34:40Yeah.
34:40Stain Girl Forever.
34:41Yeah, why don't we just book her?
34:43She's cute.
34:44She's suffered enough.
34:45She's quirky.
34:46Oh, my God.
34:46That's hilarious.
34:47That was very embarrassing.
34:49Okay.
34:50So, you have a ton of fans, especially from, you know, your huge Cosmo article, which is
34:55so big.
34:56And I'd love for you to react to some of the fan comments.
34:59Oh, yay.
35:00Yay.
35:00Okay.
35:02She plays the mess out of the Delulu villain till the end.
35:07Oh, the Delulu villain.
35:09And I totally get what you mean, because at the end of the show, she's the real Kaplan
35:13Eris, and her father walks in, and he's like, how dare you steal my daughter's Cartier
35:17and steal her identity and everything.
35:20And Candace is just still, hey, she's gotten this far.
35:24Like, I feel like when you dug the hole so much for yourself, you can't just, like, quit
35:28the bit there.
35:29You got to keep it going.
35:30I'm like, I already did this much.
35:32So, I'm like, no.
35:33The next comment.
35:36Daniella Cosso is the perfect Blair Wadler.
35:39I'm like, wow.
35:40That is a high, high compliment.
35:42Gossip Girl, classic.
35:43Okay, next.
35:44That woman is so wicked.
35:46She is just looking for attention.
35:47Oh.
35:48You see?
35:49I mean, you guys aren't wrong.
35:51That's why it's so hard for me to elaborate.
35:53Because she never had the attention when she was younger.
35:55So, what do you expect her to do?
35:57She's just constantly fishing for compliments.
36:00This is my favorite one.
36:02You would low-key eat at being a minion.
36:04Oh, I love the color combo yellow and blue.
36:07So, and then, okay, I think this is the last one.
36:10I hope you're not like Candace Kaplan.
36:12LOL, you look so cool.
36:14Thank you so much.
36:16She is cool.
36:18Like I said towards the beginning, like, I'm in for Candace's drive.
36:22But not everything that she did to get there.
36:25But everything else, I am cool.
36:27I'm chill.
36:28I have feelings.
36:29I would never steal your identity.
36:31No, no, I'm kidding.
36:32I'm kidding.
36:35So, Daniela, that kind of wraps up our little episode today.
36:39Do you have anything else you want to say to the fans?
36:42No, just thank you so much for watching.
36:45Keep on coming on this journey with me.
36:47I've got lots to go.
36:48I'm just getting started.
36:49Oh, yeah.
36:50Both of us are.
36:51And, yeah, just thank you a million.
36:54And I really, really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
36:57And where can the beautiful people find you?
36:59Instagram.
37:00Just my name, Daniela Coso or TikTok.
37:03What is it?
37:03I think it's Danny Couscous or something like that.
37:06But, yeah, social media.
37:08If you type in my name, you'll find me.
37:10You'll find the queen.
37:11Definitely go give her a follow and read her amazing article in Cosmopolitan.
37:15Yes.
37:15Okay, before we go, we want you to take a fun little Polaroid so you can just take our camera here, hold it up, and take a selfie.
37:22Hey, everyone.
37:33Sarah Malisky here, and welcome back to Real Talk, where it gets hot, spicy, and to the drama.
37:38Today, I am so excited.
37:41We have Michael Vaccaro here at Real Talk in the house.
37:45The iconic villain, fashion designer, daddy.
37:49Is there a role that you have been dying to play?
37:53Well, this is one of the things that we've been talking about a lot lately is this idea of, like, everybody in Real Short is, like, you know, they're, like, six months old.
38:01They're, like, super young.
38:02Like, everybody's just, like, super young and pretty.
38:04Yeah.
38:05It's super, super young.
38:06Everybody's, like, super young.
38:06Like, everyone's young and hot.
38:08Everyone's young and hot.
38:09So, I think that we need more, like, people who are, like, not so super young.
38:14Like, people like myself who are maybe, like, a little bit older and aren't doing, like, romantic leads.
38:20Right.
38:21Like, why is it that, like, people after, like, 30, we don't die.
38:25We don't, like, all just die.
38:26We don't just, like, give up and, like, castrate ourselves.
38:28We all, like, you know, we all have sex lives, and we all, like, fall in love, and we all have drama, and we all, like, in fact, I think we have more drama, and more interesting drama,
38:36and more interesting sex lives.
38:37Yeah.
38:38So, yeah.
38:38So, I think, so, if I, if I had my sort of choice, I would definitely want to do, like, an older lead guy who, I mean, just, you know, the stories that we always tell, but, like, have just.
38:50A different twist on it, not just focusing on the young and sexual.
38:53Middle-aged people are really interesting and have lived lives and stuff, and, like, you know.
38:58I feel like also something to go off of that is, as I've personally gotten older, I've become way more comfortable sexually.
39:06Like, back when I was younger, I was so, like, self-hate and, like, couldn't even have sex, thought I was asexual, like, literally.
39:13And then, you know, with age, you become more open and can, like, discover more, and, like you said, more s**t happens to you.
39:20Yeah.
39:21I also think that, yeah, you get to know yourself more as a person, so I also, I just think that older people are more interesting.
39:27I mean, they're just, just baseline, more interesting, because you have more experience, and you have more knowledge, and you know who you are.
39:34I feel like that goes with, even outside of vertical space, even Hollywood, it's like, okay, yeah, after 30, you're, like, an old wench, and there's nothing for you unless you're, like, the dying grandma in a horror movie.
39:49Yeah, I mean, if we're talking about just mainstream movies and stuff like that, I think, again, especially women, older women are much more interesting.
39:56I have no interest in, like, seeing what a 20-year-old girl has to do, like, you know.
40:00I kind of get, I do get what you mean.
40:02It's, like, these, it's more so, like, the drama of the human is kind of surface level, versus if it was a more mature human, it would be, like, so much deeper.
40:12Like, the substance, did you see that?
40:13Yeah, I did.
40:14I actually just saw it, really.
40:15It's so good.
40:16Did you like it?
40:16What'd you think?
40:17I thought the ending was absurd.
40:19Yeah, I mean, yeah.
40:20I'm not gonna spoil the ending.
40:22But were you, like, wait, what is happening here?
40:24If you watch this, if you have not seen The Substance yet, and you want to watch it, watch, like, three quarters of it, and then just go out.
40:30Just leave.
40:31Oh, my gosh.
40:31Or just, like, you know, go home or, like, turn off the TV or whatever you're doing, because it's absolutely absurd.
40:35But up until then, up until then, I was really, I found it really interesting.
40:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
40:40Well, that was cool that, I mean, Demi Moore is definitely getting a light shined on her right now with just her acting and everything.
40:46I think she's gonna win the Oscar.
40:48I think she is, too.
40:49I hope she does.
40:50I mean, it's kind of amazing.
40:51Yeah.
40:51It's one of those great things, actually.
40:53Like, I tell myself this all the time.
40:54Like, to not give up.
40:56Because I've been doing this.
40:57You know this.
40:58I've been doing this since I was a tiny, tiny, tiny little child.
41:00Yeah.
41:02And you get to a point where, like, everybody, like, everybody in your life is telling you, like, you know, Vaccaro, you've got to stop this.
41:10You've got to be realistic.
41:11You know, you can't live on $1.27 in the bank anymore.
41:15You know, you have to pay your mortgage and all that nonsense.
41:17So she, Demi Moore, is a real example of, like, just, like, not giving up and just keep, you know, just keep going.
41:25Don't listen to what anybody says.
41:27She did that great speech at the Golden Globes.
41:29Yeah.
41:29You know, about what that producer said to her years ago.
41:31Michael, thank you so much for joining us today.
41:33I love you with all of my frickin' heart.
41:36I can't wait to see you on set.
41:37I love you, too.
41:37I can't wait to see you on set.
41:38I love you, too.
