00:55Welcome to my crazy Christmas basement.

00:58Let's take a tour.

00:58I'm 26, and I still live here with my parents.

01:02Down here usually is at least half of the year is decorated.

01:06Everybody's bathroom needs ceramic trees.

01:08We got them everywhere.

01:09I was born on Christmas Day, so the first night of my life, I was literally put in a Santa hat and a Santa outfit right at the hospital.

01:16So I go by St. Nick.

01:19Here is my crown jewel of trees.

01:21It's a white bottle brush tree, which is really, really hard to find.

01:25This came straight out of a drugstore, so I'm thinking it's at least 50 years old.

01:29Over here is like another crown jewel.

01:32This was only made for about two or three years, and it actually starts snowing.

01:37I can show you right here.

01:38The snow gets sucked up from the bottom and then blows through the whole tree like it's snowing.

01:43I'll probably never get rid of my stuff because I am so obsessed with collecting.

01:50It makes me all bubbly.

01:51I feel like a kid again, so anytime I can feel that way in this crazy world, I will, and I'll never let anybody tell me otherwise.

01:57Usually every garland is covering every little edge.

02:26Oh, and speaking of cool things, this is my idea of my dream house, but in little miniature scale.

02:42Every night I sit in this bed and I get to have the view of this entire crazy Christmas extravaganza.

03:32There's literally 20 snowmen that go on that couch.

03:44Then he definitely misses out on a lot of stuff, but whatever he sets his mind on is what he's going to do until he gets it done.

04:05I don't know exactly where it is, but we're going to find it.

04:07Anytime I'm free, I will always want to be out in my workshop fixing, refurbishing, repainting, just getting stuff ready for this holiday season.

04:17Especially if you have as many projects as I do, it's pretty much a never-ending cycle.

04:21I had a Santa that I already started to rehab a couple months ago, so I have to find this Santa Claus and get it going.

04:33Nick is my youngest of seven.

04:35As a kid, he always was a collector, and it's never going to stop.

04:41I just want to admire it still.

04:46I do construction, which is also kind of a creative outlet.

04:50You get to build, nail, create, paint.

04:52A lot of the times I'm painting, which I find very relaxing.

04:59It's in a box, and it's got a red suit.

05:02I'll pick anything off the shelf that I feel is in that category.

05:16It's 40 by 80, and I specifically wanted the 16-foot ceiling so that I could put all of my giant things just straight in there.

05:29There's just so much stuff overflowing.

07:53It started with blow molds, and now it's like the tchotchkes, and it's huge.

08:14My love of Christmas started as early as I can remember when I was a child.

08:17Okay, so last year Kyle and I were talking about suspending Santa and the reindeer from the ceiling.

08:24My dad, back in the 90s, you know, in his heyday, really decorated for Christmas.

08:31He would go out and string all the trees outside and put all the blow molds.

08:34I bought blow molds just because I knew the kids would like them.

08:38No actual intent of creating this passion.

08:42Yeah, sure.

08:43My dad started a Christmas dish set for my mom, and as a kid, we would buy my mom pieces of it and give that to her for Christmas.

08:51So, it really started my love for collecting.

08:58In a previous profession, I have dealt with hoarders, and I can see the signs.

09:04So, we're getting there.

09:05It was his job to go into people's houses for safety codes.

09:08So, he has seen his fair share, but I'm not hoarding garbage.

09:29Well, I do have a job.

09:32I am a special education teacher, grades two through four this year.

10:08You know, every time I look at your checking account, there's not very much in it.

10:12I got my first job at the mall when I was 15.

10:14And he's been on my account ever since because I needed a cosigner.

10:17You know, when she gets paid, you know, I see what her check is.

10:20Then she transfers money into her savings account, which I have no control over.

10:24He can't see it.

10:25And then I don't know what's in there.

10:28You know, now I think it's time that we cut bait.

10:36Any money that I put into Vintage Christmas, Dad, I'm going to get back out of it.

10:39I've sold a ton at my sale this past summer.

10:47Any money I make from selling parts of my collection is going to go right back into the collection.

12:34And sometimes it just relaxes me.

13:11We have been together for just over 20 years, married for 10.

13:16Matt discovered my Christmas fetish.

13:27Matt discovered my Christmas obsession when he came up to visit my family for the first

13:33time.

13:34I saw all of the Christmas stuff on that trip.

13:42And you were like, wow, this is cool.

13:48It could use a little more magnolia, because when you squint your eyes, you could see that

13:51this section is brighter than that section.

13:55So that's given the illusion that that section has lights out, when it really doesn't.

13:59It's just, we didn't fill this one enough.

14:01I started Christmas collecting since I was like seven.

14:08It started because I think my mother wouldn't let me decorate anything.

14:13So I think it was all this repressed energy.

14:15And then finally, at seven years old, I got a ladder and decorated the outside of the house.

14:20At that point, my mother realized that I might have had a skill set that she didn't have to

14:24work so hard decorating anymore.

14:26This is very bright.

14:28Why don't we just put less lights on the tree?

14:30You can't have the elegant, warm glow of a tree if you don't hide the lights.

14:35When you squint your eyes, you could see the dark spots of the tree.

14:40It's pretty dim and very warm.

14:43And then you get to this section, and it's on fire.

14:45I mean, it might as well be at a hardware store.

14:50We used to have New Year's Eve parties, and I would not like it so much because it went

14:54from, like, all the warmth of Christmas into the New Year's explosion.

14:58So we started to have a small Christmas party, like 20 people.

15:02And it just morphed into this bigger party.

15:05And it takes many months to get the decorating done.

15:09Wait, so we're going to have 200 people here, and you want them to squint?

15:13No, they don't need to squint.

15:14But when the lights come down, they'll see that it's one big, beautiful glow, not all

15:19this brightness.

15:20But if you only notice it when you squint, that's the whole point.

15:23Just, just, the squint is a test to see where it needs more magnolia and less magnolia.

15:31When decorating season is coming, if Dominic says, I'm just going to change a couple things,

15:36it'll be fine, this season will be easy, no, never.

15:40He always changes everything.

15:41But it also is, like, therapy to me.

15:53We have so much stuff.

17:00I know they're materialistic things, but they do bring me joy.
