00:00I was proud of her. She was young, beautiful, smart. I don't think I met a soul that ever said
00:14anything bad about Ashley. And he was the fun one. Terry was selling that I'm gonna take care
00:22of you and your baby. She would do anything for him. Maybe she didn't believe that it was
00:29controlling. But behind closed doors, that's your fact. Terry was keeping her in that cycle
00:36intentionally. Everything was red flags for me. Just in my gut. Knew he was bad news. You said
00:42somebody's chasing you with a gun? It still gives me nightmares.
00:5920-year-old Ashley Buck is on vacation with her son, her family, and partner, 36-year-old Terry
01:20Barlow. She was perfect. She was the best mom I've ever met. I don't think I met a soul
01:29that ever said anything bad about Ashley. She was the brains. She knew how to take care of
01:36things. And he was the fun one. Terry always tried to make a joke, always was the funny one,
01:48always making everyone around him laugh on the outside. She was in love with him, I guess. She
01:58would do anything for him. Ashley was born in Salina, Kansas, February 15, 1984. She was my
02:11second born. I can't say that I remember it. I was one when she was born. We were pretty much
02:19inseparable. She was my best friend. That's what she was to me. She was different than Amanda. She was
02:25more of a mama's crybaby. She would cry the first day of school up until fifth grade. And I'll never
02:32forget when I walked her into fifth grade and she didn't cry. I went, she's growing up finally.
02:40We were really young when our parents moved us to Texas. The family settles in Corrigan, Texas,
02:48and Ashley gains two brothers and a sister. I was number four. Ashley was eight years older than me.
02:54Out of all the siblings, she was the one I think played with me the most.
02:59We grew up rough. So we kind of bonded over, we're not going to let our childhood, I guess,
03:05bring us down. We used to pick on her all the time just to get her to be like, Mom,
03:19make them stop, you know. Turn it off! She was whiny. She was whiny. Mother!
03:31But we were her siblings, especially her little ones. So of course, we had to go mess with her
03:36all the time.
03:39She grew up a lot faster than I did. So I would say she was more mature than I was.
03:44Age 15, Ashley's life takes an unexpected turn.
03:50She met a guy and she became pregnant.
03:54I was worried she might even quit school, but the school put a daycare in.
04:01After giving birth to a baby son in 1999, Ashley continues her education, getting straight A's.
04:08She got a job, she worked, she went to school.
04:12She would actually walk from the school over to the gas station where she was working.
04:16And then she'd get off, she'd go home, she'd give the baby a bath, so she'd get up,
04:21she'd go to school and go do it all again.
04:24She was the best mom. She was super mom.
04:26I don't even know how she'd done it.
04:28She still graduated with honors.
04:30And in the summer of 2002, moves into her own apartment.
04:36It was a low-income apartment, but she was proud of it.
04:43Then one day, somebody called me asking, where's Ashley?
04:47So I go across to her apartment, knock on the door.
04:50She's not there.
04:53She just packed up some clothes, packed up her son, and she was gone.
04:58It's like, poof, she's not here no more.
04:59I had no idea.
05:02I had no idea for months and months until she called me and said,
05:06I'm okay, mom.
05:09She was living down here in Beaumont with Terry.
05:14Ashley moves 85 miles south to live with 34-year-old trucker Terry Barlow.
05:20She was 17 when he met her.
05:24We were like, Ashley, he's almost old enough to be your dad.
05:27What are you doing?
05:29And she was like, it's fine.
05:31It's fine.
05:31It's not that big a deal.
05:33I felt like she was looking for somebody to take care of her.
05:37And he was selling that I'm going to take care of you and your baby.
05:41She probably did want a role model for her son on her own.
05:49It was probably scary.
05:51He could have given her a little security.
05:54What's up?
05:55Yeah, I win first.
05:56I won.
05:56I think Ashley was his little trophy.
06:01His young, pretty, smart trophy.
06:06What's up?
06:07Get that thing out of my triggers.
06:09It's still coming out.
06:10Terry always had this big camcorder.
06:13He liked to record everything.
06:15This is my house.
06:17This is the old crib.
06:18This is the inside of the house, man.
06:23It's all right.
06:25He was a truck driver.
06:27He was the breadwinner in the beginning.
06:29And Ashley was the one that stayed at home.
06:34So he did things to make a little bit of money.
06:37He liked to flaunt money, too.
06:40That's what this is, I song for.
06:41Yeah.
06:42That mommy's going to take away as soon as we can figure out how to open the bag.
06:47Touch screen.
06:49Edge are everywhere.
06:51Just run.
06:52Just run and look.
06:53There's money everywhere.
06:55He'd be happy-go-lucky, joking, laughing, and everything.
06:58Most people just thought he was, you know, a good guy.
07:01He's cool.
07:02You know, he's funny.
07:03He makes everybody laugh.
07:04He invites everybody over to parties.
07:07Look at this.
07:08I remember he had a very loud laugh.
07:10You could hear him from across the yard whenever he'd start laughing.
07:14I'm f***ing up.
07:15I'm dead.
07:17They weren't like a huggy-lovey couple.
07:19They really weren't.
07:20They'd laugh and joke, and they'd have a good time together if Terry was in a good mood.
07:25But I don't remember ever seeing her kiss him.
07:27I don't remember seeing her hug him.
07:29It was a very, like, detached relationship.
07:33My sister did everything.
07:34My sister took care of the house, the cooking, the cleaning, everything.
07:38It wasn't long after she moved down there that she really started to put on the weight.
07:45Down here in the South, being thick, that's a good thing, or it may have been a good thing
07:53for him.
07:54I guess men like that.
07:57I'm looking at my place.
08:00If he was filming, he was trying to, oh, you know, oh, this is mine.
08:05Take that thing!
08:06I'm going to pump you up.
08:07Ooh!
08:09But behind closed doors is your fat.
08:12I'm like, it's zooming on me.
08:14I'm already big enough.
08:17Oh, he would always think it was funny to joke about her weight.
08:20Some of those jokes, I didn't care for.
08:24Now we're in and out into the next room.
08:27A treadmill we never use.
08:29She don't never use it.
08:30Your self-esteem is most definitely going to go down if the person, you know, you're
08:35supposed to love or what have you, cause you fat.
08:38She wasn't the happy-go-lucky, giggly big sister that I remember.
08:43You could just tell she wasn't the same.
08:45She lost that spark.
08:47It wasn't until later that I found out that he had just gotten out of prison, and I pretty
08:52much got with Ashley as soon as he got out of prison.
08:56Everything was red flags for me.
08:59Just always in my gut, you know, he was bad news.
09:02When you boys send it home, in the rain, when you want to get good and thirsty, guess
09:20what you do?
09:21Get up, get some of the good meals.
09:23Go over here to the fresh cooler right here.
09:26Let me see the cooler.
09:27Terry didn't drink constantly, but if it was weekends or especially holidays, yes.
09:42And he'd always put on a big show for everybody, buying all kinds of liquor and beer for everyone.
09:49Yeah, he always wanted to make the appearance that he was more than he was.
09:53And then I found out later that he would do a lot of that, putting them in the air.
09:57I'm in debt on credit cards, so he could make everybody look like he was all that.
10:06You could tell whenever he'd get drunk that he'd get mean.
10:11First time I came down here and seen Ashley, there was a big black bruise on her arm.
10:17And I ran to her and I said, did he do this to you?
10:20And she said, oh no, mother, he did not.
10:24She tried to say she ran into a door or something.
10:27And I just knew about her.
10:28It looked like somebody had punched her in the arm.
10:32She would just look off or she would change the subject.
10:35I mean, there was no talking about what went on between.
10:38It's Christmas Day and Terry plays Santa.
10:47Get in there and get that blanket off for you and go open your presents.
10:51I'm sleepy.
10:53Lord, you should have been in bed last night.
10:55Get up.
10:56He would get more agitated.
10:57He'd start yelling and cussing.
10:59Cussing and, you know, just little things would set him off.
11:03Better life time.
11:04Better not cry.
11:05Better not be bad.
11:07I'm going to bust your ass.
11:10I couldn't even go in her house without getting a sick feeling to my stomach.
11:13I'm going to bust your ass.
11:15I'm going to bust your ass.
11:16I'm going to bust your ass if you be bad.
11:18You could feel it when you walked in the house.
11:20The anger, the evil almost.
11:23Like, you could feel it.
11:24I'm going to bust your ass if you be bad.
11:27I actually knew that whenever everybody was gone, if he was upset or angry, that he was
11:32going to hurt her.
11:35I remember she showed up at my apartment, just bloodied up.
11:40She had her stuff with her, but she wouldn't talk.
11:44She would never tell us what happened.
11:47And she stayed maybe two days with me and went back.
11:52Why didn't you leave?
11:54I can't answer that.
11:57Maybe she didn't believe that it was as controlling.
12:00And maybe she thought that was love.
12:02Maybe she didn't know the difference.
12:05Despite his controlling behavior, Ashley stays with Terry.
12:09See how fast he's going over here.
12:12Telephone.
12:133.1.
12:15Telephone.
12:16Get the phone.
12:18Hey.
12:18I know that was something she always wanted, was to have the big, pretty wedding and the
12:27big, pretty dress, and just to be the center of attention for a day.
12:33And he said, no, I'm never going to get married again, because he had already been married and
12:37gotten a divorce.
12:38And I think that hurt Ashley, but eventually I think she accepted it.
12:42I really wanted Ashley to have a happy little family, because I knew that's what she wanted.
12:48She wanted the happy little life.
12:50After eight years with Terry, Ashley has a baby girl.
12:57She's mommy's baby.
12:59Trinity.
13:00She was super happy she was having a little girl.
13:04She would call me and we would talk about T names.
13:08It had to be a name that started with T.
13:10But I used to say, why does it have to start with a T?
13:13And, of course, Terry is where it came from.
13:16She had to stand up, baby.
13:18She was a great mom.
13:20Come get it.
13:21Come get the cars.
13:23Come on.
13:24And he doted over her.
13:27Do it.
13:28That, I can honestly say, was the best time of their lives, that they were probably happy.
13:37I'm going to catch you being mad.
13:38Two years later, on December 15th, 2011, Ashley and Terry welcomed baby Tyson into the family.
13:46Wave it, come on.
13:47Let's go play the game.
13:50I feel like she loved him way more than she should have.
13:55He made her into the woman that takes care of the house, the woman that cooks the food,
14:02makes sure the meals are on the table, washes the clothes.
14:04He expected her to do everything, but don't get upset at anything he does.
14:10She learned how to cook, and I guess she liked her cooking, because she did.
14:18She got big.
14:20Look at that.
14:21Terry would call her fat, and you could tell it bothered her, but I think she got used to
14:26being body shamed by him.
14:28Don't do it, man.
14:29Don't be like that.
14:29Don't be like that, man.
14:30It was like he was play-poking fun, but there was an underlying meanness to it.
14:38I'm looking at my plate.
14:39I think he wanted her to feel like no one else would have her, because he wanted to keep
14:47her for himself.
14:48She was so self-conscious.
14:50She gained a bunch of weight.
14:52She didn't want to go out.
14:55She couldn't go nowhere.
14:56She couldn't do anything, so she just sat at home and ate.
15:00Let's go right down over here.
15:02She would avoid certain chairs and stuff, because she knew she couldn't fit in them.
15:07That kind of hurt me to see, because that's how big she got.
15:12And she would talk about it all the time.
15:14Oh, I need to lose weight.
15:15I want to lose weight.
15:16Just wait until I'm as skinny as you are again, you know?
15:20And she did try to lose the weight, but it was hard, because like I said, she was doing
15:25everything for everybody all the time.
15:27She was just living to take care of the kids, and whatever Terry needed taken care of, that's
15:34what she did.
15:35Terry was keeping her in that cycle intentionally, because as long as she wasn't happy, you know,
15:40she wasn't trying to get away.
15:43Even though she wasn't happy, she was going to stay for Trinity and Tyson.
15:51She wanted the best for them kids.
15:53She did.
15:53She wanted them to be able to do anything that they wanted to do.
15:58That's whenever she decided she was going to start going to school and stuff.
16:04Ashley got a job at the probation office, and they're the ones that got her into becoming
16:10a probation officer.
16:12So she started going to school.
16:14But she did it.
16:15She graduated with a bachelor's degree.
16:18They hired her right off the bat.
16:20She became a probation officer.
16:23To have two small children and do everything she did, oh, I was proud of her.
16:29I was very proud.
16:33She was young, beautiful, smart.
16:37Everything he wasn't.
16:38She portrayed everything like everything is fine, I'm happy, living the dream, living the
16:47life.
16:47But I don't feel like that's the way it was.
16:50I think that he got her to a point where she felt that she was not good enough, not pretty,
16:58and not, you know, sexy.
17:00Then, in 2017, Ashley's world comes crashing down.
17:07She went through his phone.
17:08I think that's how she found out.
17:10He was paying for another woman's apartment and paying her bills.
17:14I thought it was disgusting, because Ashley was working, trying to keep them above water,
17:23and he's paying bills on a whole other household.
17:27Like I was told, that was his woman.
17:30Ashley was just crazy baby mama.
17:34That was his choice to go off and have an affair.
17:37But somehow it always turned around, and it was Ashley's fault.
17:40Well, you made me do this, you know?
17:42And if you looked better, if you were skinnier, I would stay around.
17:46Yeah, it was always Ashley's fault.
17:48I know they fought about it.
17:50And I told her, I was like, you know he's cheating on you.
17:54And she said, yeah, I know.
17:56But I'm not giving up like that.
18:00She gave him an ultimatum of you either leave and go with her, or you marry me.
18:08I felt like I was looking at a car crash beginning to happen.
18:12It's 2018, and Ashley gets the proposal she's been dreaming of.
18:29Ashley called me and said, I'm getting married on August 18th.
18:33And I said, what?
18:35She already had the invitations.
18:38She was just happy that she was going to get to get married.
18:40You know, something she dreamed about her whole life.
18:45I wanted to just shake her and be like, what are you doing?
18:49I just knew in my heart, that's not what you need to do.
18:54You need to leave him.
18:58Terry showed up to his wedding with sunglasses on.
19:02The night before the wedding, he was so drunk.
19:06His eyes were so bloodshot that he wore the glasses to hide the fact that he was just messed up.
19:14I thought to myself, why did she still marry him?
19:18Why?
19:19She looked very pretty, but it wasn't the happy wedding that it should have been.
19:27It felt like everybody in the whole room was watching my sister look like a fool.
19:33And I wanted to be excited for her, but I did not go to the wedding.
19:38And it's not that I didn't want to be there for Ashley.
19:42It's just that I wanted her to leave him so bad.
19:48Ashley said, well, he's taking it as if our entire life started over when we got married.
19:53But that's not the way it works.
19:58Woo!
19:59What's that?
20:03Look at this s***.
20:04He got me down for his birthday.
20:06We doing it, Daryl.
20:07Woo!
20:10A year after getting married, Ashley and Terry go on vacation with friends to Cancun, Mexico.
20:17We had a rejuvenation.
20:19Yeah.
20:21While they were there, one of his people told Ashley that he was having another affair.
20:28It was like the switch had finally flipped for Ashley.
20:32She wasn't going to be unhappy anymore, and she wasn't going to let him be the reason she was unhappy anymore.
20:37That's when she decided she was going to have the weight loss surgery, and she did.
20:44She was losing weight, and she was sticking to the diet really well.
20:48I was, like, super stoked because I was like, I can't wait to see what Ashley's going to do, you know?
20:54It was like watching a transformation, making sure she got her workout in, going to the personal trainer.
21:01So she did a complete 360.
21:05We started seeing her smile again, and I was just so happy to see Ashley back.
21:12Let me go and hit that thing right here right quick.
21:18Let me hit that thing!
21:20Terry was threatened.
21:22She would just make little remarks about how he didn't want her to go to the personal trainer.
21:27She told me, he thinks I'm still a little girl.
21:30I'm a grown woman now.
21:32So, yeah, he was threatened.
21:33And her daughter, Trinity, had a very hard time.
21:43She couldn't tell me why they were fighting.
21:46All she could tell me was that Terry held her mom down on the floor and had a gun in her mouth, and it was loaded.
21:56He had knocked Ashley over on the couch and put a gun in her mouth, and Ashley was trying to get Trinity to call 911.
22:05And he told Trinity that if you f***ing call anybody, I'm going to kill her.
22:13But again, Ashley would not tell me anything.
22:18So Ashley probably lived in more terror than I'll ever know, because she hid it from me.
22:27In September 2021, Terry moves out.
22:31Amanda told me that Ashley's finally going to divorce Terry.
22:37I think everybody was ecstatic.
22:40She started making plans, and she was doing all the work.
22:45She found him an apartment, bought furniture for the apartment with her check,
22:50and he realized that Ashley is serious.
22:54So she started, like, following her.
22:57Like, following her around.
23:01She didn't tell me he was pulling guns on her.
23:05But from the look on her face, I knew she was scared.
23:10She said, Mom, why won't Terry leave me alone?
23:14I said, men don't go through divorce as well.
23:16They're not like women.
23:17They just can't handle it.
23:19And that's what I said.
23:21And I wished I'd have said more.
23:25Because I didn't know that was the last time I would talk to her.
23:28To escape Terry, Ashley moves in with her sister.
23:36She had moved over to Amanda's house, and she was living there with the kids.
23:41They were all planning to cook dinner, and they were making ribs.
23:45But I called Ashley, and I was like, Ashley, make sure that, you know, Mom don't mess up the ribs.
23:50Ashley had told me that she was going to pay the sports coach, and she was going to come right back.
24:00But, like, she never ended up coming back.
24:05Mama 911, where's your emergency?
24:07Ma'am, my brother-in-law just called me and told me he killed my sister.
24:11On the evening of October 23rd, 2021, a business owner called 911.
24:25Hello, 911.
24:26He observed a disturbance between one of his clients and her husband.
24:31There's a guy here with a gun at my shop.
24:33Where at?
24:34He doesn't identify him other than it's a guy with a gun chasing us around.
24:39Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!
24:45The suspect was pointing a firearm, making verbal threats.
24:49He's chasing me with a gun!
24:51And you said somebody's chasing you with a gun?
24:54Yeah, now he's trapped around the corner.
24:57Oh, my God.
24:57That's a top-priority call, any type of disturbance, but especially one that we know there's a weapon involved.
25:05So, immediately, they get multiple units to respond to this location to try to catch the suspect.
25:10What does he look like, sir?
25:13His name is Terry. He's a black male, 62.
25:17Terry? Okay.
25:18Why is he chasing you with a gun, though? Because his wife was there?
25:21Yeah.
25:23He's driving off now.
25:27Multiple units are heading to that location.
25:30But within minutes, the suspect decided to return, and this is when everything went to absolute chaos.
25:42I actually hadn't been gone 25 minutes.
25:47I had my phone, like, right here, and I said, Terry.
25:51I looked at it, and something told me to answer the phone.
25:54And the first thing he said was, I shot, I shot Ashley, I shot Ashley.
26:02And that's when Amanda started calling me screaming that he killed her, that he killed Ashley.
26:09I don't know.
26:12My body just went into shock, I guess.
26:16And I told her to call 911.
26:19I am trying to get to my sister on College Street.
26:22He just told me he shot her.
26:24What's his name now?
26:26His name is Terry Barlow.
26:27I knew where to go, because she said, I'm going to pay the sports coach.
26:35After our male victim realized the coast was clear, he got back on the phone, called 911.
26:40Can you get them here?
26:42The dude came back and opened fire and shot her.
26:45Did the cops cool down?
26:46Okay.
26:47Talk to the police.
26:48We'll get EMS headed that way.
26:50He came back and shot her.
26:51When the responding officers arrive at the scene, they find a very distraught male victim.
26:57He was shaking.
26:58He was upset.
26:59He was clearly frightened for his life.
27:02But once he was able to compose himself, he was able to tell us that our suspect is a man by the name of Terry Barlow.
27:09All units were actively looking for this man.
27:14Our victim was Ashley Barlow.
27:16She'd had multiple gunshot wounds throughout her entire body.
27:20It was a very disturbing crime scene.
27:25The cops are already here!
27:28Ma'am.
27:29Oh, my God!
27:31Ma'am.
27:32Ma'am.
27:34When I got there, she was just laying in, like, the middle of a parking lot.
27:39And I just remember saying, why aren't y'all doing anything?
27:42Why aren't y'all doing anything?
27:45They were, like, looking at me and shaking their head.
27:50No!
27:51Oh, no!
27:54There's no words that can describe the way you feel when you pull up and see your sister dead.
28:02They were shot down in the middle of the street like a dog.
28:05And then Terry came back.
28:09He came back and tried to pretend like he didn't know what was going on, what happened to my wife.
28:15And Amanda lost it.
28:17Amanda tried to get to him, but the cops held her back.
28:20She started screaming, you know, that's, you know, killed my sister.
28:24And I guess that's when they put him under arrest.
28:26When I get there, I'm able to observe the scene, observe the body.
28:32I'm advised that our suspect has been taken into custody.
28:36I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that.
28:40Patrol officers had already taped off everything with crime scene tape and had Mr. Barlow in the back of a patrol car.
28:48We start collecting evidence and taking pictures.
28:51I saw numerous shell casings everywhere.
28:54There was a .38 and a .40 caliber.
28:57We knew there was at least two different handguns, but they were not there.
29:01There was also a GPS tracker that was laying next to her, which was odd.
29:09Where she was hit was very close range, front of her face and her chest.
29:14I knew right away this wasn't just something that got out of hand, a sudden passion type deal.
29:19This was somebody that was exacting their violence in a very personal way.
29:26We were unable to find any handguns there, but we did notice one of the businesses did have cameras.
29:32Their video had audio.
29:35We were able to hear everything from the first disturbance to when the actual homicide took place.
29:49He chases down his wife as she's absolutely begging for her life.
29:59He takes her out and shoots her multiple times.
30:02And then has the audacity to tell her it's her fault.
30:06Look what you've made me do.
30:10I have not seen anything so cold-blooded.
30:13And as she's laying there, mortally wounded, continues to fire on her.
30:17That was horrible.
30:25Cold-blooded killer.
30:28At that moment, Terry's in the back of a patrol car.
30:31You just got to clear any personal biases of what you just saw.
30:35And you got to give him a fair shot as well of telling you his side of it.
30:39You know, be Detective Sergeant Barrero, not Yvette Barrero, the person that just is enraged.
30:48Hey, Mr. Barrero.
30:49Yes, ma'am.
30:50My name is Sergeant Barrero with the Beaumont Police Department.
30:53Obviously, you know, what you've done here tonight.
30:59What I needed...
31:00I messed up.
31:01I messed up.
31:02I wanted to let him know that I was willing to listen to what he had to say, even though I'd seen the footage.
31:09I know, baby.
31:10It's going to be all right.
31:11I love my wife.
31:13It was vital that I reach out to him so that I could build some sort of rapport with him so that he would feel comfortable in telling me what led up to this horrific act.
31:24We all mess up in life.
31:27The most important thing going forward here is to make this right.
31:31We just wanted to know what happened that night, and we needed him to do that.
31:36Our main goal is what happened, what led up to this, and especially what did he do with the weapons.
31:51Terry Barlow is interviewed by detectives after fatally shooting Ashley.
31:57Me and my wife, we've been fussing while I come home from work.
32:02And she said that she wanted a divorce.
32:07Okay.
32:07After 20 years, you ain't going to tell me why.
32:11And she said she just needs space.
32:15So I say, okay, if you need space, and we're going to work on this, I'll move.
32:24By the time we got to the station, I'd learned that he had placed a tracker on her car,
32:29and that he had been following her and knowing every step she took.
32:33I bought this tracker, and I put it on the car.
32:36Today, it popped up.
32:40And I said to myself, I'm going to go over here, find out what's going on.
32:48It didn't go right.
32:49Terry was mad and upset that Ashley was standing there talking to another male subject.
32:54He pulls up, he gets out, and he confronts Ashley, and he doesn't remember what happened next.
33:01She would want me to turn myself in and do the right thing.
33:06He's telling us he wants to do the right thing.
33:09I just wasn't believing it.
33:11Terry, I know you said that you knew that you had hurt her.
33:15Did you know when you left how severe it was?
33:19I just know, I just know, I just know.
33:21I'm thinking, man, you really are a callous, evil, selfish person for doing what you just did,
33:29but making this all about you.
33:31Did you think about calling 911 to get her some help?
33:35I didn't know what I had done.
33:37I just noticed he needed me.
33:39He needed me, and I was going back because he needed me.
33:42He's telling us that he's messed up, but when we get down to the brass tacks of it,
33:47you know, what did you do with the weapons, then all of a sudden he has memory losses.
33:52So you dumped the 380 over there off the world.
33:55Did you do the same with the 40?
33:56I don't remember, ma'am.
33:58Once I got going, all I started thinking about was my kids.
34:02He has no idea we have video footage of the homicide and how brutal it was.
34:08That just goes to show the type of monster he really was.
34:12Do you think you might have tossed it out the window?
34:15I don't remember, and it's killing me because I don't want nobody to get there and hurt somebody else.
34:23It's like he wanted us to know almost everything except the part where he's the most guilty.
34:29And not helping us find the weapon, everything that he was doing that night was trying to set up for his defense.
34:37You're under arrest for the murder of your wife and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
34:44So when he's arrested that night, he was transported to Jefferson County Jail.
34:49And the following morning, he was arraigned by a judge for the charge of murder.
34:53We have video that shows the murder.
34:58We have a GPS tracker.
35:00We have shell casings.
35:02What we don't have is the actual murder weapons.
35:05And we know there's at least two because we found two different shell casings.
35:08Hey, I found the gun, and I mean, it matches up with what y'all said.
35:19It's a Smith & Wesson single stack 380.
35:22So the night of the incident, we are able to locate one of the weapons.
35:27We were able to take that into custody.
35:29I mean, that's solid evidence.
35:31But we still needed to find the second weapon.
35:32Two days later, police received footage from a second surveillance camera.
35:43This video was absolutely the nail in his coffin, so to speak, because this angle was directly in front.
35:51When you put the two videos together and you hear the audio from this one and then what's actually occurring, it still gives me nightmares.
35:59You could just see the pure evil in his intents, in his actions.
36:12We see how he shot her point blank.
36:16She pled for her life and could not do anything.
36:20He reloaded, exchanged weapons, and we now see him, the pure malice and evil, snuff her life out.
36:29He tried to say at one point she reached for the weapon.
36:37He didn't remember how many times he shot.
36:40He didn't remember what he did with the weapon.
36:42This video shows us that everything he was saying was completely made up.
36:48The autopsy confirms two different guns were used to kill Ashley.
36:52That just kept us really laser-focused on trying to track down that second weapon, and we weren't going to give up.
37:03I don't know how many times I walked around there looking and crawling in ditches.
37:07Fortunately for us, we got some divine intervention.
37:10A homeowner doing yard work discovers the second gun.
37:15The second weapon that we recovered was a .40 automatic Smith & Wesson.
37:21Later testing showed that it matched the shell casings that was used in Ashley's homicide.
37:26So we finally found Terry's gun.
37:28So there was no doubt that this was an execution.
37:33He brought multiple weapons to carry out this hatred.
37:38Prosecutor Phillip Smith is assigned to the case.
37:41I worked in the 252nd District Court.
37:45Ashley was the probation officer in the courtroom next door.
37:48So everybody is understandably upset that one of our own has been taken in this manner.
37:56In this case, we were fortunate to have high-resolution video from across the street.
38:02The evidence had been gathered.
38:03The police had done a great job.
38:05We had all the evidence in the world to show that he was guilty.
38:10Terry enters a plea deal, and sentencing begins.
38:13He tried to put blame on Ashley for why he did it.
38:19He had a gun, but she was reaching for the gun in his pocket.
38:23The video showed that was not true.
38:26She was, in fact, running away from him when he takes the gun out and starts shooting at it.
38:31He's also putting blame on a deceased person for making him do it.
38:37And that, that's telling.
38:40That's a narcissist.
38:41To sit there on the stand, to me, was disgusting.
38:47Listening to him try to make excuses for what he'd done.
38:51Terry pleads guilty to Ashley's murder and the aggravated assault of the sports coach.
38:57He's sentenced to 50 years.
39:00That basically means he'll never see the light of day again.
39:04You know, he'll see his judgment one day, and he'll have to account for that.
39:07It'll be far worse than what happens here on Earth.
39:11I think the world is a better place with Terry Barlow in prison.
39:16The only time I want to hear that man's name is whenever it's in an obituary.
39:20I felt like Terry stole Ashley a long time ago.
39:23You know, everybody else talks about losing Ashley the day she died.
39:33But I lost Ashley when Terry took her.
39:36I think she thought I was stronger than her.
39:44And I wasn't.
39:46She was strong.
39:50She was, she was so strong.
39:53And she endured so much.
39:56And she still continued to take care of her kids.
39:59She was a good mom.
40:02I want Ashley to be remembered as the kind person that she was.
40:08I want the kids to remember what a great mother she really was to them.
40:14Because I hope it never fades from their memory.
40:16I want Ashley to be remembered for her perseverance.
40:21That you can have just the most horrible things happen to you.
40:28But you can still stand up and grow and be a beautiful person.
40:33I think she won in the end.
40:34I do.
40:35I think she won that battle in the end.
40:37Because she got what she wanted.
40:38She did not want her kids raised with him.
40:40And that's, that's what happened.
40:43He's, she's not raising them kids.
40:46It's never going to ever be over.
40:49Because she was my baby.
40:50She was my daughter.
40:52That I raised.
40:53And was so proud of.
41:10They look like a very, very happy couple.
41:16She loved him.
41:17I could tell.
41:18He was going to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
41:22Appearances can be deceiving.
41:23No one knew what a monster he was.
41:25He was going to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
