07:59By the way, Trump was there to enlist new military recruits
08:03And he still got booed
08:04And I will say, if you're going to give a speech
08:07In a stadium full of 50,000 people
08:09Try to avoid doing ones with this line
08:11It just reminds people about all your trials
08:18I will just say that as much as I enjoyed the booing
08:22I actually enjoyed this angle of fans flipping off the president
08:25From their seats even more
08:27I mean, he's getting flipped off by both Lions fans and Commander fans
08:33He finally did it. He brought the country together
08:35The only two things
08:36That if ever United fans at a football game
08:39Like this are booing Donald Trump
08:41And cheering when the Pop-Tarts mascot
08:43Is lowered to his death in a giant toaster
08:47It was really sad
08:49When he came out, he looked like this
08:51By the way, all those people booing Trump
08:55Trump thinks what they're really clamoring for
08:57Is a new stadium with his name on it
09:00President Trump is reportedly gunning for the new Washington Commanders football stadium
09:05To be named, wait for it, after him
09:09A senior White House official told ESPN
09:11There have been back-channel conversations with the team's owners
09:15Expressing Trump's desire to have the future domed stadium bear his name
09:20All right, but if you have a domed stadium named after Donald Trump
09:23It should at least have to have his dome
09:25Of course, then when it's windy, it's going to be a huge problem
09:29Point is, Democrats have finally backed Trump into a corner
09:33Polls showed voters were on their side
09:35And then just when it seemed like they'd finally turned the tables
09:38They buckled
09:39Breaking news out of Washington, D.C.
09:41Where the U.S. Senate is voting on a bipartisan deal
09:43To end the longest government shutdown in the country's history
09:46This deal comes after a group of at least eight Democrats
09:50Agreed to reopen the government in exchange for a future vote
09:54On extending health care subsidies
09:56It's the Democratic side, or at least enough Democrats in the Senate
09:59That are essentially caving
10:01Democrats are united
10:03As the party of lower health care costs
10:06And improving our health care system
10:08We will not give up this fight
10:11But that's what you're doing
10:13You're giving up the fight
10:14You can't wave a white flag in one hand that says
10:16I give up, while on the other hand
10:18Waving a smaller white flag that says
10:20Until next time
10:21But you heard him, Democrats are not giving up
10:23Now I'm sure you think caving to Republicans without any meaningful concessions
10:27Constitutes giving up
10:28But that's because you're not an expert on politics like Chuck Schumer is
10:31You're playing checkers
10:32He's playing chess
10:33And he's playing it slowly
10:35He's not playing it to win
10:36He's playing until his opponent falls asleep
10:39Which, by the way, literally just happened last week
10:42Yeah, that is the president asleep on live television
10:47During an Oval Office press conference
10:48The same Oval Office press conference where someone fainted
10:52And then Trump just stood there like the only character in a play
10:56Who can talk to the audience
10:57I'll never forget the day Gordon fell
11:01Pa said he wasn't gonna make it
11:03And ma, well, ma made that special pie that always cheered me up
11:07Also, shout out to RFK Jr. for his quick reaction
11:11When someone passed out in the Oval Office
11:13In case you missed it
11:14Now that's a shaggy
11:21It's like someone said we need a doctor
11:26And he thought, oh, I'm the furthest thing from a doctor
11:28And if you're curious what was being said while Trump fell asleep
11:33It couldn't be more perfect if we created it with AI
11:36These drugs will not cost us money
11:38The American taxpayers will be getting their money back
11:40That's how important it is for us to reduce the cost of healthcare in this country
11:45Especially when it's due to preventable problems like obesity
11:47But I don't measure it in pounds
11:49I measure it in saved lives
11:50People can sleep again
11:52Yeah, we can see that
11:55Did the president fall asleep on purpose or as a demonstration?
11:58This is like a pharmaceutical ad
12:01I have expected that to be written in cursive under Trump
12:04While Dr. Oz was saying it
12:06People can sleep again
12:07Democrats, are you seeing this?
12:10Why are you caving to this guy?
12:12In a span of like five days
12:13He got crushed in elections
12:14Got booed at a football game
12:15Fell asleep in a meeting
12:16And you guys saw that and thought
12:18There's no way we can beat this guy
12:19He's at the top of his game
12:20I mean, I'm terrified of my wife
12:22But once she falls asleep
12:24I'm turning off her dumb movie
12:25And turning on the Knicks games
12:26But Democrats actually seem to think
12:29Trump had somehow won the shutdown fight
12:31You have to go back to what the strategy was
12:33At the beginning of the shutdown
12:34There were two goals
12:35Both of which I support
12:36One was standing up to Donald Trump
12:38The other was getting some resolution
12:41On the ACA premium tax credit issue
12:43The problem was
12:45The shutdown wasn't accomplishing either goals
12:47So standing up to Donald Trump didn't work
12:50What do you mean it didn't work?
12:51Aren't his poll numbers at an all-time low?
12:54Didn't you just win a bunch of elections?
12:55Or did I hallucinate all of that?
12:57Now, I will admit there is a chance
12:59I hallucinated that
12:59Because on the day of the elections
13:01I was at a sweat lodge in Arizona
13:03Doing ayahuasca with my spirit guide Esteban
13:05And yes, I was there with RFK Jr.
13:07We disagree on almost everything
13:08But we do love three things
13:10Esteban, ayahuasca, and working out
13:11Shortless and blue jeans
13:12But
13:13When did you guys sneak in and take that?
13:31Usually they use like the Chris Evans
13:33Before he takes the super soldier serum
13:35But it's not all bad news
13:39If you listen to Angus King
13:40Democrats actually did get something
13:42In return for caving
13:43There never was an end game
13:45If the initial strategy didn't work
13:47And now we have one
13:48We're going to have, as I say
13:50A guaranteed vote on the ACA
13:51And it may not succeed
13:53I grant that
13:54But a reasonable chance
13:5610, 20%, 30%
13:58Is a lot better than 0%
14:00Which is where we were
14:01As of yesterday morning
14:02You guys cave for a 10% chance of success?
14:06You're supposed to be senators
14:07Not Lloyd Christmas
14:08Also
14:08I hate to break it to you
14:11But it's still 0%
14:12You and I
14:13Know this Republican Party
14:14Is not going to work with Democrats
14:16And yet some Democrats
14:17Are still capable
14:18Of diluting themselves
14:19Into thinking cooperation is possible
14:20Leader Thune said
14:21He would come to the table
14:22On a health care
14:23Once the government was open
14:24And now
14:26He must follow through
14:27I expect Republicans
14:28To be at the table
14:29In the next few weeks
14:30I expect the White House
14:32To be at the table
14:32I believe there are
14:33A number of Republicans
14:34Who are going to join us
14:36In trying to address
14:37Health care costs for Americans
14:39We've heard from a number
14:40Of our colleagues
14:41On the other side of the aisle
14:42That they're willing
14:43To come to the table
14:44They're willing to work with us
14:45Once the government's open
14:47To get this done
14:48We've heard the same thing
14:49From the White House
14:50Oh my God, you did?
14:51Well, I didn't know
14:51You heard it from the White House
14:53Wait, did you hear it
14:54From the East Wing?
14:55Because that might have
14:56Just been demolition noise
14:57No, it came straight
14:59From the Oval Office
15:00Bar and Grill
15:01That's right
15:03They heard it straight
15:04From the White House
15:05And if you can't trust
15:06This president
15:06To keep his word
15:07Who can you trust?
15:08Don't laugh
15:09And if there's one thing
15:09We know about Donald Trump
15:11Is that his word is his bond
15:12Why are you laughing?
15:13He's an honorable man
15:14Of decency and integrity
15:15Come on, guys
15:15Stop laughing
15:16When he tells you
15:17He'll do something
15:18You can take that to the bank
15:19Well, I'm sorry
15:19You know what?
15:20I just realized
15:21I accidentally replaced
15:22My water with ayahuasca
15:23That
15:24Esteban, you can't leave
15:26This stuff lying around
15:27I knew something was wrong
15:28When I looked over at Wally
15:29And he was a furry purple guy
15:30In a top hat
15:31It's absurd
15:34Absurd to expect Republicans
15:36To pass a Democratic
15:37Health care bill
15:37And you don't need
15:38To take that from me
15:39Take it from the Republicans
15:40Themselves
15:41No, because we did our job
15:49And I'm not part of the negotiation
15:50The House did its job
15:51On September 19th
15:52I'm not promising anybody anything
15:53Of course, Democrats heard that
15:55And said
15:55So you're telling me
15:56There's a chance?
15:58Look, no one likes a shutdown
16:00But this is the worst way to cave
16:02Democrats had Trump on the ropes
16:04Voters were on their side
16:05Trump was getting booed
16:05Losing elections
16:06And holding press conferences
16:07In the Oval Office
16:08So he could
16:09Sleep again
16:10This has been
16:11A Closer Look
16:12We'll be right back

16:41As well as shows like
16:42Boardwalk Empire
16:43George and Tammy
16:44And Nine Perfect Strangers
16:45He currently stars in Nuremberg
16:47Which is in theaters now
16:48And Death by Lightning
16:49Which is streaming on Netflix
16:50Please welcome back to the show
16:51Our friend Michael Shannon, everybody
16:52Awesome, I woke up at five this morning on my mother's couch in Lexington, Kentucky
17:14Wow
17:15Wow, but now that could be that you had a really bad night or a really good night
17:19I was down there for my mother's 80th birthday
17:24Oh, that's really nice
17:25Turned 80
17:26Happy birthday to her
17:28Yes, Geraldine
17:29Geraldine, and so you woke up on the couch
17:32You obviously went down there and you had no intentions of getting a hotel room
17:35It sounds like
17:36Oh, no, I actually like sleeping on my mother's couch
17:39Yeah
17:39And particularly, they just got a new cat
17:43Okay
17:43So they found on the street
17:45So the cat has been sleeping on the couch a lot too
17:48So that would be
17:48Now, for me, that would be what I would like to call a deal breaker
17:51Like, I love that you said that like that was an amenity at a hotel
17:55Oh, yeah
17:56Also, they have a new street cat they just found
17:58Yeah
17:59Marriott, take note
18:01Did, uh, now, is your mom someone who has Geraldine
18:05Does she have an expectation that her son will come back for her 80th?
18:08Did you surprise her?
18:09Well, we all came, me and my siblings, it was like the Avengers, you know
18:13Oh, that was great
18:14That came to the
18:15She must have been over the moon
18:16Does she love it when everyone's around?
18:17It was
18:17We played a board game
18:19We have this board game called Hidden Identities
18:21And it has a typo on the board
18:24It's supposed to be the safety zone, but it says safety zone
18:28We've been laughing about that for decades
18:31Yeah
18:32That seems like a pretty good place to hang out, yeah
18:34The safety zone
18:35The safety zone, yeah, that's really fun
18:37Like, do you think people, do you think people are excited when they get the one that prints it wrong?
18:40They're like, oh, I've heard from Michael, this makes it a lot more fun
18:42We actually think we might have the only copy of this board game in existence
18:47Wow
18:47I've never seen it anywhere else
18:49Yeah, any version of it, spelled right or spelled wrong
18:51Spelled right, wrong
18:52I know a lot about board games, I've never heard much about Hidden Identities
18:54Hidden Identities
18:55Yeah
18:55It's the perfect, perfect board game for a family to play together
18:59Because, let's face it, we all really are strangers to one another
19:02Oh, interesting
19:03You know, I knew I should have gotten off this before you made one of your dark turns
19:08Yeah, that's what I do
19:09That's what I'm known for
19:10Talk to you about family long enough and then it gets real
19:13So, two years ago when you were here, you were singing with your friend Jason Narduzzi
19:17You have an R.E.M. cover band
19:18And there you are
19:20Jason Narduzzi
19:22Jason Narduzzi
19:23And this is fantastic, we loved having you here
19:26You've been touring, audiences love it
19:28You obviously love doing it
19:29And yet I've also heard you say that you hate when actors have bands
19:32So, help me
19:33Who doesn't?
19:35Yeah, that's true
19:35So, you, but you don't, so you don't see it as like a problem of hypocrisy
19:40It's just like, look, I like being in it
19:41I just don't like when other ones have
19:43And I see a, did you say a pond of hypocrisy?
19:46No, I just said a, just general
19:47A frond of hypocrisy?
19:48A frond, I said a, it's like, is it in the safety zone?
19:51Is it in the safety zone?
19:54No, you know, I mean
19:55I swear on a stack of Bibles or whatever book you choose to use
20:01This was supposed to be a one-off thing
20:04When we, we, me and Jason just pick a record
20:07And we'll play it one time
20:09We played it in Chicago
20:10And people are, they just keep asking us to come around and do it
20:15And it must be funny
20:17You went, you toured abroad as well
20:18You, and do you, I mean
20:20I would imagine R.E.M.'s got a ton of fans abroad
20:22And they must be the same fans who show up to your shows
20:24Yeah, they're, they're a pretty rabid response
20:28Particularly in, particularly in Dublin
20:31Okay
20:31Dublin, they, they, they really, they were singing along and dancing
20:35Are you the kind of band, kind of, kind of cover band
20:38What you share with the audience is obviously a love of R.E.M.
20:40Do you then take requests?
20:42No, there's no requests
20:43Okay, got it
20:44No, as a, as a matter of fact, for, for several shows
20:49For those of you familiar with R.E.M., we've been getting people begging us to play Superman
20:54Yeah
20:55We never play it
20:56Wow
20:56I think maybe it's because I was in Man of Steel or something
20:58I don't know
20:59Yeah
20:59Maybe it's just people love the song
21:00But, but the next tour is Life's Rich Pageant
21:03And it ends with Superman
21:05All right, so you are going to do it
21:06You can check out tour dates
21:08There's the dates right there
21:1022 shows
21:11We're playing at Casino in Lake Tahoe
21:14Wow
21:14That's the show
21:15That's how you know, you made it
21:16You're doing the Casino in Lake Tahoe
21:18We had your co-star Matthew McFadden on talking about your new film
21:24No, sorry, your new Netflix series, Death by Lightning
21:26I get confused, too
21:27Yeah, yeah
21:28Well, it's very cinematic, so I'm like, am I watching a film or a TV show?
21:32It's about an assassin, a presidential assassin, and yet you play the president
21:37Were you excited?
21:39Were you excited when they reached out?
21:40I was, because it usually would be, you know, the assassin or
21:44But, uh, yeah, I never, in my wildest dreams, thought someone would ask me to play president
21:49of the United States
21:50And, uh, you know, not a lot of people know much about Garfield
21:55Uh, because he wasn't president very long
21:57But his, his nickname was the greatest president America never had
22:01That's a pretty good nickname, yeah
22:02I mean, obviously not great, you know
22:04Yeah, not for him
22:05Uh, uh, fact, he, uh, the, the department of the president
22:10Of education was his idea
22:12Wow, that's a pretty good one
22:14He said in order to have a free and equal society
22:17All members of the society need to be educated
22:20No matter, uh, where they come from or who they are
22:23Their race, their class, whatever
22:24So, uh, he, he got a, a board of education to work
22:28But the, the, the seat of the department of education
22:31Was president Garfield
22:32And now the, the, the, the
22:35The sickle is in there
22:36Yeah, yeah, yeah
22:37Do you, um, uh, do you enjoy a period piece
22:40Do you enjoy wearing, um, the old heavy clothes
22:42Oh, well, we were shooting in Budapest in the summer
22:47And it was unbelievably hot
22:50Yeah
22:50There were, on offer, there were vests, uh, that had hoses in them
22:55And between takes, you could be attached to a cold water machine
23:00And would pump cold water through
23:02Yeah
23:02I never did that
23:03But Mr. Offerman, who's playing Mr. Arthur
23:05Uh, he, he took advantage of that
23:07And I, I don't blame him
23:08Okay
23:08Yeah, yeah, yeah
23:09Well, I mean, we don't, we have to blame him
23:11But we could say you're
23:12You're just made of, like, tougher stock than Nick Offerman
23:15No, no, no, no, no, no, no
23:17Like, he sort of takes it to the streets
23:18Like he's Mr. Rugged Guy
23:20And now we find out this whole time
23:21He's had, like, cold water hoses
23:22I, I just
23:24I don't want to be the guy that
23:26Outs Nick Offerman
23:27Look

26:14Để làm 70 pages at once
26:16Yeah, I love it
26:17I love that feeling of just getting lost in something
26:20Like forgetting that
26:21There's a camera there
26:23And really being able to focus on
26:26Your objective
26:27And I think Russell did too
26:30You came out of Chicago doing theater there
26:32I came out of Chicago doing improv stuff
26:34But I had never heard of
26:36Your spontaneous theater
26:38Which is I guess kind of a combination of the two
26:40When were you doing this and describe exactly
26:42What it was to me
26:43Yes, it's called Bang Bang Spontaneous Theater
26:46It was called
26:47This was back in the 90s
26:50In Chicago
26:51And Chicago is a very rich improv tradition
26:55Second City, ImprovOlympic
26:57The masters of improv there
26:59But we had this
27:01Idea that we wanted to do something
27:04That A, didn't necessarily
27:06Have to be funny
27:07The objective wasn't to make people laugh
27:11It could be
27:12You could go up and just
27:13Create a completely serious scene
27:16Straightforward scene
27:17You could do something
27:18Completely absurd
27:20And nonsensical
27:21Which, you know
27:22Sometimes improv devolves into
27:24Anyway
27:24But, uh
27:25Yeah
27:26We often did stuff
27:28That wasn't funny
27:28But not because we were trying
27:30Yeah
27:31Yeah
27:32So, and we did it in a
27:36Well, we started off doing
27:38In a small coffee house
27:39On the north side of Chicago
27:40And then
27:42It got more popular
27:44And we moved further south
27:47Closer to downtown
27:48You must
27:49I mean, again
27:49We were talking backstage
27:50You just went back to Chicago
27:51To do a play
27:51I mean, it's a very special place
27:53To both, I think, come up
27:54And also return to
27:55You'd still find
27:56I mean, I always said
27:58Like, I think audiences
27:58They're just like
27:59Open to almost anything
28:01Yeah
28:01And really
28:03Back in the 90s
28:04When I started out there
28:05It was such an incredible time
28:07So many
28:09Phenomenal artists
28:10I mean, that's where I met
28:12Tracy Letts
28:14The writer and actor
28:15Who I did Killer Joe
28:16And Bug with
28:17That eventually
28:17I mean
28:18It's basically responsible
28:20For my whole career
28:21You know
28:21In Chicago
28:22Well, it's a great film
28:24It's a great show
28:25And it's always great to see you
28:26Thanks for being here
28:27Thanks, Seth
28:27I understand
28:28You're ready to remember
28:29You can see this now

28:31We'll be right back
28:32And we'll see you next time
28:33Our next guest
28:47Is an Emmy-nominated actress
28:48A producer
28:49You know from her work
28:50In WandaVision
28:51And the Marvel Cinematic Universe
28:52As well as films
28:53Such as Wind River
28:54Ingrid Goes West
28:56And His Three Daughters
28:57She stars in Eternity
28:58Which is in theaters everywhere
28:59This Thanksgiving
29:00Let's take a look
29:01How's it looking?
29:05So
29:06What
29:07What am I supposed to do?
29:09I need you to tell me
29:11What to do
29:12Oh, my dear
29:13Okay
29:14I read your file
29:15And you are smart
29:16Passionate
29:17And decisive
29:18Oh
29:18I am
29:19I have complete faith
29:22That you will choose
29:23The right eternity
29:24And the right person
29:25To spend it with
29:26You'll do
29:28Do for what?
29:32Were you expecting someone?
29:33Please welcome back to the show
29:35Our friend Elizabeth Olsen, everybody
29:37Have you ever worn tights with your heels, Seth?
30:00I haven't
30:01But based on how you were moving
30:03It might not be that easy
30:04It's already hard
30:06I don't know why I just did that to myself
30:07It was so scary walking from there to here
30:11You had a real fear in your eyes
30:14Like you were looking at me like you had brief amnesia
30:18And didn't realize who I was or what this was
30:21I was lost
30:22Yes
30:22Completely lost
30:23I do
30:24Mostly because I don't want anybody to do it
30:26If someone like pulled the fire alarm right now
30:28You would be the last one out of here by a full 10 minutes
30:30Well, I would take these off
30:32And then I'd be sliding all over this floor
30:34So you'd lose either way
30:36I would
30:36I mean, also, I'm very
30:37This is fine
30:38We're good
30:38We're having a good time
30:39I am
30:44Let me offer you a brief congratulations
30:46I saw you and my friend Jimmy Kimmel show
30:49Talking about how happy you are
30:50About the Dodgers and their World Series victory
30:52Congratulations
30:53Well, I didn't do anything
30:54But thank you
30:55You're very welcome
30:55Yes
30:56How great were those series?
30:59Well, it was an amazing series
31:00Now, this is the truly amazing thing to me
31:02Is you kind of came to Dodgers fandom
31:05Sort of in the last 10 years?
31:06Is that accurate?
31:07That's correct
31:07And they're the only sports team you care about
31:09That's correct
31:10Wow
31:10Yeah
31:11You're like a person who's like
31:12I only like gold
31:14I do only like gold
31:16Yeah, you have one thing
31:17I only like gold
31:19You can have your diamonds
31:21You can have your silver
31:22I only like gold
31:23And the Dodgers
31:25I would love
31:25I think I can get you a cable news ad
31:27Just like
31:28You're talking about gold
31:29During commercial breaks
31:30Did you go to any of the games?
31:33Well, I do
31:33I go to
31:34I did
31:34I went to a postseason game
31:37And I was reminded
31:37Why I should never go to a postseason game
31:39Yeah
31:40Every time I've gone to a postseason game
31:41They lose
31:42Yeah, yeah
31:42I went to the Brewers
31:44Where they lost
31:45And I also watched them lose
31:46To the Red Sox
31:50When they lost in 2000
31:51Yeah
31:51I think, what was that?
31:5218 or 19?
31:53Yeah, 18
31:53Yeah, so I was there
31:54When I was at the Dodgers stadium
31:56When I won
31:57I think, by the way
31:58I did the same
31:58So I am a Red Sox fan
31:59And in 2004
32:00I had been to
32:01Thank you
32:02Thank you, everybody
32:03See, I accept congratulations
32:05Well, a belated congratulations
32:07Thank you very much
32:08On the one I watched you win
32:09Yeah, yeah, yeah
32:09Thanks for everything you did that night
32:11Yeah
32:11When we saw you there
32:12We were like, we got a shot
32:13Yeah
32:13But I had only gone to games
32:16Where the Red Sox had lost to the Yankees
32:18I think I had gone to like three in a row
32:19And I had tickets to the famous game
32:21For American League Championship Series
32:23And I gave the tickets away
32:24Because I'm like, I'm the problem
32:25Right, right
32:26And then we won the next eight games
32:28And no one has given me a plaque yet
32:31Right
32:31And it is because of you
32:33Of course it's because of me
32:34Yeah, I mean, I would agree with that
32:36Thank you
32:36I just know I shouldn't be going to these post-games
32:38Also, can we say something else?
32:39A lot of those games were on too late
32:41And we have to get to bed
32:43I'm watching West Coast Time
32:46Oh, that's right
32:46Yes, I'm okay
32:47I will say
32:48This World Series for East Coasters was brutal
32:51It was brutal
32:52And I also do like the two hours of the post-game show
32:55That follows
32:55Because I have Spectrum
32:56And so they do like a whole separate thing
32:59Like you change the channel from Fox
33:01To Fox Sports whatever it is
33:02One or something
33:03And then you go to Spectrum
33:04So you actually like watching post-game analysis?
33:08Yes
33:08Wow
33:09Well, specifically for Spectrum
33:11There's a guy named David Vachey
33:12Okay
33:12Who interviews the guys
33:14And he's kind
33:15They like
33:16I can't tell if they're bullying him
33:17Okay
33:17But he's very funny
33:19But I don't know what's happening
33:21I don't actually know what their relationship is to him
33:23So funny
33:24So you're watching it less about sports
33:26And more about like the human dynamics at play?
33:28Yes
33:28That's why I can't get into football
33:29Because they all have, you know, guards on their face
33:31Oh, you
33:32For you, if you can't see the face, there's no interest
33:34I'm, yeah, I'm investing in the characters
33:36Okay, great
33:37Yeah
33:37I want to talk about your movie
33:42Eternity is what it's called
33:44Yeah, Eternity, yes
33:44But it's sort of
33:46I've heard it billed as a fantasy rom-com
33:48Do you feel like that's accurate?
33:50Yeah
33:50It's a rom-com in the afterlife
33:52So it depends
33:53Is the afterlife a fantasy?
33:54Yeah
33:55I was happy to see it
33:56I think in this day and age
33:57I liked seeing
33:58I really enjoyed
33:59I felt nice knowing that there's like
34:01An afterlife
34:03I was like, oh, I'd be good with this one
34:04You like this one?
34:05Yeah, because you know why?
34:06There's immediately red tape bull
34:08Yes
34:09There's a lot of red tape
34:11And you like it
34:11I would be happy about that
34:12I'd be like, oh, good
34:13It's not going to be that different
34:14No, it's very bureaucratic
34:15It's very similar to the culture we have today
34:17Yep
34:18We're just throwing consumerism at people
34:20Yep
34:20It's like a
34:21It's definitely like a capitalist afterlife
34:23And you immediately like show up in the afterlife
34:26And have to do the thing none of us ever want to do
34:28Which is make a decision
34:29Yes, and everyone's forced to make a decision very quickly
34:31For a week, for eternity, for the rest of their lives
34:33And they can't change it
34:34And they're stuck with it
34:35Yes, and there's nothing else they can do
34:37You have a
34:38This, I've heard you say this is a dream role for you
34:41Yeah
34:41But there's a very specific reason that is true
34:44Yes, because I play a 90-year-old woman
34:46Yeah
34:46Who dies
34:47Yeah
34:47And wakes up in the afterlife in this body
34:49Yeah
34:49And you know, usually when people do romantic comedies
34:51They're supposed to be, I think, sexually attractive
34:55And there's something really nice about
34:57Not for me
34:58I don't believe love has anything to do with that
35:03Yeah, you're just, you're not interested in that
35:06I paid to have some actors remake Pretty Woman
35:08All 90-year-olds
35:10But how interesting would that be?
35:13It was, I'll give you the VHS
35:15Oh, so that's when you made it
35:19Yeah, yeah, yeah
35:20Yeah, so I, I mean, there was something really different to get to lean into
35:24And I do feel like an old lady
35:25Oh, in real life?
35:27Yeah
35:28Old soul?
35:28I'm not, like, wise
35:29I do just feel, like, a little out of touch with the times
35:33Okay
35:33Have you always felt this way?
35:35Yeah
35:35Okay
35:35So even in college, you feel like your friends would be, like, oh, she's out of touch with
35:40the times
35:40Yes, I don't really know what's going on in culture
35:43Gotcha
35:43Yeah
35:43But I do know about 6-7
35:46Oh, congrats
35:47Congratulations
35:49I think, thank you
35:50I'm really into 6-7
35:52Interesting
35:52Yeah
35:53Now, I have children who say it
35:55Yeah
35:55And I've made an active choice to ask no follow-ups
35:58Okay
35:59I can explain it to you
36:01Do you want to try?
36:02Yeah, I think someone tried to explain it to me
36:03This is on the record now, so just FYI
36:06So I think the reason they love it is because it's absurd and random
36:10Yeah
36:10And how great
36:12Yeah
36:12Like, I think we're really doing a lot of things that are, uh, I don't know, maybe cynical
36:17or pointing, pointing at something
36:19And there's something really funny to me about the, like, abstraction and absurdity of just
36:25getting excited about two numbers that are in order
36:28Yeah
36:29Right, that they're in order is even crazier
36:31It's like, it's like, they're not like, no one's ever said 6-7, you're like, that's all
36:35they've done
36:35Yeah
36:36It's, it's not, it's not like a funny combination
36:39No
36:39It's just, like, how it's always been
36:41It's really great, but I feel like the gift I'm giving my, uh, my sons is to, like, just
36:46be, like, dumbfounded by it
36:48Right
36:49Cause, like, I think also their joy is, like, I don't get it
36:51Right
36:52And so, like, that's what they love
36:53Someone was like, what is this?
36:55And they're like
36:56Right, right, right
36:57And there's nothing to say
36:58Yeah, there's nothing to say
36:59They can't explain it
37:00Except watching someone else be so, uh, dumbfounded
37:02Yeah
37:03Which is the joy
37:04I, I, I'm very, I'm growing into my role
37:06is when we talk about being old souls
37:07Yeah
37:08Which is, like, my role right now is to be in a house
37:10and just be the dumbest piece of s**t anyone's ever done
37:13Like, literally, that serves
37:14That's what everybody in my family needs
37:16They're like, look at this dummy who doesn't understand anything
37:18I'm remembering a bit from one of your specials, also, of when you're playing a game
37:24and a, and a part of a piece of the game goes underneath
37:26They can't keep
37:27A piece of furniture
37:28They can't keep dice on the table
37:30Yeah
37:30And so, it's like your favorite moment is when you get to hide
37:33Yeah
37:33When I crawl under a couch to find a dice, I just kind of stay there
37:36That really, that really stuck with me
37:39It's really nice
37:40Trust me, like, at some point you're like
37:42This is the only place you get to be where, like, nobody's like
37:44What's, like, because I'm pretending like I'm in service to them
37:46Yeah
37:47But I'm really just resting
37:48Yeah
37:48Do you have a specific, like, old trait?
37:52Do you feel like your friends would be like
37:53This is, this is Elizabeth's most
37:55Um, it's, I mean, I don't know if it's a trait
37:58Or if it's more of just, like, a general embodiment
38:00I, I was with texts
38:01I was doing a lot of periods at the end of sentences
38:03Until a friend told me that it's really aggressive
38:05Have you, I also was told recently, um, that emojis are now an old person thing
38:11And I was so psyched that I finally, like, got on board
38:14Yeah, I feel like I'm still searching for ones that are clever
38:17Yeah
38:18And some really, like, like, I don't know
38:19I get excited to use, like, the lightning bolt, you know
38:23Like, pow, is kind of how I feel when I use it
38:26By the way, it's, it's so depressing that somebody who was in WandaVision
38:31Who, like, literally did some of the best, like, lightning bolt stuff I've ever seen
38:37Is like, but have you ever done it in a text?
38:43This is what I'm talking about, about the 90-year-old thing, though
38:46I was watching so much Ann Mira when we were doing Eternity
38:49And I haven't watched the documentary yet
38:51And I was so invested in her and Jerry Stiller's, uh, late-night bits
38:55And it was, it was so fulfilling to, to use, use that as a reference point
39:00For, for my character and for Miles Teller's character
39:02It is very nice
39:03I mean, I, I, I, we'll, I, we'll try, uh, not to give anything away
39:07But it is very lovely to watch the two of you as actors
39:10Obviously, we're very familiar with
39:11Like, act, you are, you are playing old people
39:13Yeah
39:14In current bodies
39:14And you, you both do a wonderful job
39:16And I really enjoyed it
39:17Thanks
39:17It is, it's a, it's, it's definitely like a cross-generational
39:20I think viewing experience
39:22It's, um, it's a, it's a film that's set in this afterlife
39:26But it's a really ordinary love story
39:29Um, about a, a couple that's been married for 65 years
39:33And a woman who ends up in the afterlife
39:34And, and discovers that her, her first husband
39:37Who died in the Korean War is also there
39:39And has been waiting for 67 years
39:40And it's, it's, it's, it's a heartfelt
39:42And, and, uh, screwball sort of comedy
39:45It's a very nice time of year for it to come out
39:46It's always lovely to see you
39:48Thank you so much for being here
39:49I really appreciate it
