The story begins with Marissa Irvine, a mother who heads out one afternoon to pick up her son Milo from a playdate at a friend’s house. She drives to the address she was given — number 14 on a quiet, respectable suburban street.
But when a stranger opens the door, everything goes wrong.
The woman who answers insists she doesn’t know any Milo, doesn’t have a son, and certainly isn’t hosting a playdate. Marissa checks the text — she has the address right. But her little boy is nowhere to be found.
That’s when panic sets in.
The police are called, and what follows is a fast-paced and emotional unraveling of what really happened to Milo — and how secrets, lies, and betrayals among the parents in their seemingly perfect community might be connected to his disappearance.
