00:00Welcome to Real Talk, where it gets hot, spicy, and to the drama.
00:18So you guys are vertical legends and have been in so many of these shows,
00:25so we all want to know how these shows have changed your lives as people.
00:28Well, it was weird, because when we did Faded to My Forbidden Alpha,
00:32it was at a point where I almost quit acting completely,
00:36because it was during the strike in 2023, and I wasn't booking anything,
00:40and I was in a really bad rut mentally.
00:43And I was like, I don't want to do this, I'm not booking.
00:46Even my agent was like, yeah, there's just nothing happening right now.
00:49And it was dark times for a lot of actors.
00:52And then I got this one audition, I didn't know what it was for.
00:55However, I sent in the tape, but it was past the due date.
01:00I didn't even send it in on time.
01:02And then, not even an hour later, my agent was like, yeah, you booked this.
01:06And then a week later, we started filming it, and that's when I met Casey.
01:10And then, months later, I think it was two months later when it came out,
01:14I was like, wow, our faces were all over TikTok.
01:18My friends, my family, people I went to high school with were sending it to me,
01:22going like, is this you? And I was like, oh my god, it is!
01:26I was so flustered, and it was a weird feeling.
01:31Because I never thought that anyone would actually see it, I guess.
01:35It really took me by surprise that my whole For You page on TikTok was just us.
01:41And one of the craziest scenes was me walking while he's near the car,
01:49and then I'm walking with a trash bag.
01:51And I just remember that, because I was everywhere on my For You page.
01:54And I was like, oh gosh.
01:56But it's crazy, because I only had 60k on Instagram during that time.
02:01And then after that, it went up to 90k.
02:04Then I did my second one, and it went to 100k.
02:07So my following grew massively.
02:10So I do owe it to Real Schwartz for that,
02:13because I really do just thank the universe every day that I actually sent in the tape.
02:18Because if I didn't, who knows, it would have been another girl
02:21that would get to sit here right now doing what I'm doing.
02:26My agent had just let me go.
02:29So the day after, I went on the casting sites,
02:31and I was like, okay, I'm going to start self-submitting,
02:34because I wasn't booking anything at all.
02:35And I saw the Faded to My Forbidden Alpha listing,
02:39and this Alf Alexander character.
02:42And I was like, oh, this is like unique.
02:43This is werewolf.
02:44This is fun.
02:45And on that side, it was labeled as a mobisode.
02:47It wasn't even labeled as a vertical.
02:49I sent in my tape.
02:51Didn't hear anything.
02:52And then a friend of mine from acting class messaged me,
02:55and she was like, hey, I'm friends with this producer.
02:56And they said they're looking for this Alf Alexander character,
02:59and they can't, like, they haven't found him yet.
03:01And I was like, oh, I actually sent in a tape for that.
03:03So I guess they didn't like it.
03:05But I was like, I'll reach out to her.
03:07So I sent her a message, and she was like, hey, Casey, yes,
03:09we saw your resume.
03:11You know, basically, we didn't see your tape yet.
03:13And so they went back and watched it,
03:15and I had it booked, like, that night.
03:17And, like, my mom was like, what did you book?
03:18Like, what are you doing?
03:19And I was like, oh, it's like a short-form episodic.
03:23And she was like, what's that?
03:24And I'm like, I don't know.
03:27I actually don't know what this is.
03:30And, like, two weeks after it came out,
03:33I remember getting one message that said, like, greetings from Mexico.
03:37And then, like, another message that was like, I love you from, like, Sydney.
03:41And I was like, this isn't normal.
03:44Then it just snowballed from there.
03:46I'm so grateful that we did that show when we did
03:51because it was early on, and we were able to lead the way.
03:56And, you know, it's led to now working full-time as an actor
03:59and building a global audience.
04:03And, you know, for most actors, I mean, that takes 5, 10, 15.
04:08Sometimes it doesn't happen.
04:09So to do that in less than two years,
04:13that's all due to the vertical structure.
04:16I mean, you guys are both working actors now,
04:19and ever since you guys starred on Faded,
04:23I'm sure there's been many opportunities that have come your way since,
04:26and we would love to hear what some of those have been.
04:30Well, you know, outside of doing a lot of vertical series,
04:35the audience building has been a really key piece.
04:38So actually, tomorrow, I'm going to the Philippines
04:42to do a meet-and-greet at the Mall of Asia.
04:45Yeah, with vertical fans.
04:48And I'm speaking at the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines
04:53on the rise of vertical dramas.
04:56And I think that, I mean, that is obviously cool,
04:59but also the press that, you know, we have both done
05:03for various mainstream publications to, you know,
05:07really get our names out there.
05:10You know, that's been an amazing opportunity.
05:12You know, Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, New York Times,
05:15like, really big publications that are covering this.
05:18And that's been really, really amazing and really, really humbling.
05:22Yeah, I would say, like, just so many people reaching out,
05:26wanting to know, like, what it is that we're doing exactly,
05:29because I feel like a lot of people, especially at first,
05:32had so many different ideas as to, like, what it was,
05:34what the process was like.
05:36Since we were kind of, like, a few of the first people
05:39to start doing it, it's like we get to say that.
05:42And that's, like, kind of special, because, like,
05:45not many people can say that.
05:46Because now it's like everybody's doing verticals, I feel like.
05:49Like, everyone I know has, like, started to do them,
05:51but we were doing them at a time where, like,
05:54no one really knew what it was, and, like,
05:56it wasn't exactly, like, cool yet.
05:58Like, now it's the cool thing.
06:01I don't know.
06:01Like, it's, like, what everyone wants to do.
06:03My following just, like, grew massively.
06:05Like, so many, like, people from all over the world.
06:08Like, it's actually quite incredible,
06:11especially, like, the young girls that, like, follow me.
06:13Like, I couldn't ask for, like, anything better,
06:15because that is, like, I feel like the best thing.
06:20And then, like, brands just sending me, like,
06:21random packages, like, PR and stuff.
06:23I was like, I never got that before.
06:25And now it's, like, it just happens all the time.
06:27Yeah, I'm glad you brought that part up,
06:29because some of the messages that we get,
06:32these really do help people get through their life.
06:35You know, if they're going through something difficult
06:37or, you know, just need an escape.
06:39You know, I know, you know, I get messages from people
06:42who are, like, I'm so happy that I found these.
06:44Like, these shows really make me happy.
06:47And as an actor, that's all I can ask for.
06:50How do you guys feel that you've grown as actors
06:52since starting in the verticals?
06:55My ability to keep stamina is way more than what it used to be.
07:01Like, I used to get, like, tired really easily.
07:04I mean, I still do.
07:05But doing these, like, because we shoot so much,
07:09so many scenes a day, so many pages,
07:11it just, like, I've gotten the ability to be quick on my feet.
07:15And I feel like before, like,
07:16that was something that I lacked as an actor.
07:19And I just didn't, like, I didn't push myself enough.
07:22But with these, like, I've definitely, like,
07:23pushed myself past that point.
07:25And, like, memorization.
07:27It was never that hard for me.
07:29But now it's, like, I'm pretty, pretty good with it.
07:32Like, I can just, like, know it.
07:34And to just, like, go past my comfortability.
07:38Because I'm more, I would say I'm more of, like, a subtle actress.
07:42And doing these, you have to be very expressive.
07:45And I've gotten a lot of notes from, you know,
07:48a lot of the directors telling me to, like, show more emotion.
07:51So it's also pushed me in that direction of being more theatrical,
07:54which I think that I needed.
07:56Yeah, I think, I mean, not having been on set, like, a ton,
07:59you know, before doing that first vertical series,
08:01for me, it's just been comfortability on set.
08:03Yeah.
08:03Like, knowing everyone's position,
08:06knowing what everyone's supposed to be doing.
08:07And now, you know, feeling like more of a leader on set
08:11versus someone who's, like, just sort of being told what to do,
08:15you know, with everything.
08:17I feel like I can go in and sort of see what we can do
08:21to make sure it's actually a more successful shoot.
08:23And that feels really good.
08:23Because now I feel like I can go into any other type of shoot.
08:26Right.
08:27And know that what, you know, we've experienced on some of these vertical sets
08:31with the chaoticness and the pace, other sets will feel like a breeze.
08:36Yeah.
08:36So it's given us an amazing boot camp.
08:39Absolutely.
08:40I feel like you guys are both, like, on set.
08:43It's like second nature now.
08:44You guys just know exactly what to do and what's coming.
08:46And compared to, like, feature films or short films
08:50that are much more slower paced,
08:52you guys are like, it's like being thrown to the wolves.
08:54And you just have to go, go, go.
08:56And you have to memorize 15 pages a day.
08:59And it's just, that's how it is.
09:01And you guys have both obviously risen to the occasion
09:04and have become super successful in the vertical world.
09:08And sexy.
09:10Successful and sexy.
09:11You guys have a new show.
09:17Tell us about that.
09:19I was under a lot of rain for quite a while.
09:25But I will say, like, it was a new experience
09:27because we got to shoot those scenes at Sony Studios,
09:31which was the coolest experience
09:34because none of the other verticals have done that yet
09:39where they've shot on a studio lot.
09:40And I thought that that was really cool
09:42that we got to experience that first.
09:45And it was just so surreal
09:47because it's like I've wanted to do that for so long.
09:50Like, that was like a dream of mine.
09:52And it was really cool that, like, I got to be there.
09:55And it just felt, it felt different.
09:57Even though I was, like, standing under, like,
10:00four different rain machines,
10:02it was so, it was so cool.
10:05I didn't get wet.
10:06That was, that was probably what made it more fun for me.
10:09And you still said that you were cold.
10:11I was still cold.
10:13The audacity.
10:15But I did bring you an umbrella in that scene.
10:18Yeah, he saved my life by bringing me an umbrella.
10:21Yeah.
10:22Yeah, I mean, that day shooting at Sony was so cool
10:24because even everyone on the crew was like,
10:26wow, this is, like, really, this is really special.
10:29Because it was also a signal of the vertical industry's
10:32assimilation into traditional Hollywood
10:34and how, you know, it's getting less and less separate
10:37or other, you know, it's really becoming a part of things.
10:42Yeah.
10:42So that was cool to be a part of that for the first time.
10:47So basically, Emily is like a farm girl.
10:51Right.
10:51And she, like, basically gets dumped
10:56and then you come along and...

11:00I just want to make sure I explain it in a way
11:02that's not like that.
11:03I mean, yeah, you're a farm girl and I save you.
11:06That is, that is what happens.
11:08Yeah, I mean, so...
11:09Save her from what?
11:10The rain?
11:11Emily is a farm girl
11:12and something happens kind of, like, with her boyfriend
11:16or ex-boyfriend, if you will.
11:18And I don't want to give, like, too much away,
11:21but, you know, she ends up cold, alone, and broke,
11:26you know, outside in the rain, crying.
11:28And then, you know, her prince charming comes
11:31and saves her with an umbrella.
11:34And for her, I think, like, for the character,
11:36because, you know, no one is ever nice to her
11:39and she's used to, like, being treated badly
11:42and being miserable, like, that was such a big moment for her
11:47because she's, like, wow, like, you're being kind,
11:51like, you must want something for me.
11:53And even, like, leading into, like, when she gets into his car,
11:56like, she even, like, feels that.
11:57She's, like, oh, like, you must, like, want something from me,
12:00you must want to do something to me,
12:01but, like, he's actually, like, just there for her.
12:04And, yeah.
12:05Yeah, I mean, if you liked Fade into My Forbidden Alpha,
12:09you will like this story.
12:10You will like, yeah.

14:48So, would you guys say that your characters are having a more steamy romance?
14:54Or is it something different?
14:56Um, well, during one of, like, the steamier scenes, I fell off the bed.
15:05So, but that was, like, autumn coming out.
15:08Because, like, I was supposed to, like, kind of, like, whirl myself around on the bed.
15:12And then I ended up just, like, falling on the floor.
15:15Um, yeah, I would say, like, there is, I guess, like, a bit more, like, sexual tension scenes in this one than in Faded.
15:25Because I think in Faded to My Forbidden Alpha, like, because it was so new, they didn't really know quite what to do with those scenes.
15:34Like, I think the most, like, intense scene was probably, like, the blindfold scene.
15:39But, like, I don't even think you were in that scene.
15:41It was me getting blindfolded, though.
15:43But, like, yeah, it wasn't, like, too steamy.
15:46So, I think this one definitely has, like, more of that kind of, like, steamy romance kind of vibe to it.
15:53Not to give anything away, but when I show up with bunny ears, suspenders, and a bow tie, no shirt, that can give you some explanation for why she very quickly rolled off the bed.
16:06So, this is your second Real Short project together.
16:10When you guys were offered the role, did you know that you would be co-stars again?
16:16Or how did you find out it was each other?
16:18So, I was, like, in New York at the time working on another one.
16:22And then I went, like, right on to ours after it.
16:26But they had, like, a couple of other options.
16:29I even read with Jake, who we worked with on In Love with the Alpha.
16:34But for some reason, that didn't work because they thought that he looked, like, way too young.
16:38He has a baby face.
16:40So, then they asked me, they're, like, what about Casey Esser?
16:43Like, you haven't worked with him in a while.
16:45Like, was your experience good?
16:46And I was, like, yeah.
16:47Like, I was, like, it was great.
16:49Like, I don't know why.
16:50They just thought that, I don't know.
16:51Like, I don't know.
16:53So, yeah.
16:54Then I heard from him that, like, he would be down to do it.
16:58And so, we kind of knew, like, before, like, even before I got the script.

18:30When I saw her throw that corn on the cob, that was definitely a major turn on.
18:34And then, you know, when I saw her in the rain, I was like, oh, yeah, I got to help her.
