Top Iraqi officials, including former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, militia leader Qais al-Khazali, and Ammar al-Hakim, cast their votes in Baghdad as Iraq holds its 2025 parliamentary elections.
The vote will decide a new 329-member legislature, as the country faces challenges of low voter turnout, political fragmentation, and tensions between U.S. and Iranian influence.
UN officials praised the smooth and independent conduct of the elections, calling it a positive step for Iraqi democracy.
