00:00I had the great idea of maybe we should throw a party.
00:09It would be nice to get everyone to come over and celebrate with us once the house is finished.
00:17I'm currently in hospital waiting for the prognosis.
00:19A double break in the leg is extremely serious.
00:25My dad has come over for a working holiday.
00:30Chaz has definitely pulled it out of the bag.
00:34Shall we?
00:38It is so cool.
00:44That inflammation is not good.
00:47Not just the normal swelling that you would expect from a broken leg.
00:52The tiles have just arrived and they don't look the right colour to me.
01:01You're just cutting the snail bottom off, I'm afraid.
01:04Being in a vegan house, you can't be chopping off the animal's eggs.
01:08Can I go in?
01:11Let's go in and I can't wait to see what you think.
01:15Oh!
01:19I love it.
01:21I want to swap bedrooms with that.
01:23It's been seven weeks since John's accident.
01:35And he's now able to move around a bit more.
01:38While builder Carlos hasn't been well, he and his team have been doing little bits in the family bathroom.
01:47And having done a great job in Albion's bedroom, Jasmine's dad, Peter, is now cracking on with joys.
01:53Despite the hiatus John's leg break has caused, it's time to face the challenge and get this build back on track.
02:03We've had some serious delays.
02:06And I think it really jeopardises the chances of us having everything finished by this summer.
02:13Because at the moment we are hugely behind schedule.
02:18Martin, do you want a coffee?
02:27Carlos, no.
02:28No, for Carlos, yes, for Martin.
02:33With milk or Americano?
02:39Americano.
02:42I was going to bring them a bit of chocolate eclair, but I can't actually carry them either.
02:46I'll carry it.
02:48John's leg is doing really well.
02:51I mean, it's still quite swollen, but he's able to get around much more.
02:58You know, he's not confined to the bed anymore, which is actually a big, big thing for him.
03:06You have to keep the workmen happy.
03:10Keep the troops fed.
03:11It's so nice now that he can get up and get into the kitchen again, because I've definitely missed his cooking.
03:20The thing I can't actually get upstairs to do any work with Jaz's dad.
03:23The least I can do is make him a sandwich while I'm hobbling on my crutches.
03:29Astro.
03:29Ridiculous dog.
03:34You know, a lot of love goes into John's cooking, and he's also a very visual person, so he always has a beautiful presentation.
03:43It's a cheese and cucumber sandwich for Jaz's dad.
03:47You can take the decorator out of England, but you can't take England out of the decorator.
03:51Thank you very much.
03:53There you go.
03:55Refuelled and refreshed, it's back to work.
04:01This is Joy's room, and the paper is going on this wall behind me.
04:06Of course, we've got the problem of the air conditioning, which is kaput anyway.
04:11I've got it this far off the wall.
04:12It's not connected to any electric, you'll be glad to know.
04:15But now I've found a metal pipe inside there, which has got to be cut or something, because otherwise it's never going to come off the wall.
04:22I'm not familiar with these things.
04:23We don't need them.
04:25It's too cold where we are to have an air con.
04:28Is that any good?
04:29I hope so, Mel.
04:32God, it is all a mess, isn't it?
04:35Have a look.
04:37Do you want me to hold on to it rather than drop down?
04:42That's Joy's bedroom in safe hands.
04:45When John first broke his leg playing paddle, doctors advised eight weeks of bed rest.
04:56Now, with that milestone in sight, he and Jasmine are heading to the hospital for a checkup.
05:02The leg at this point, I think, feels much better than I thought it would.
05:06So I'm hoping the specialist tells me everything's on track.
05:10I think if the consultation doesn't go to plan, I'll be super disappointed.
05:13I think seven weeks in, I'm desperate to be of more use to jazz and to the kids and the renovation.
05:20Hola.
05:21How are you?
05:22How do you feel?
05:23Good, how are you?
05:25I am almost certain that the doctor's going to say he's made amazing progress because I can just see it in the way he's able to move and get around.
05:33So, fingers crossed, he'll be back on track because, to be honest with you, I need his help.
05:41I've been struggling to keep my head above water, keeping, you know, with work, with looking after the kids, with the pets, with the renovation.
05:52You have a lot of inflammation here, okay?
05:56What happened that morning?
05:58What happened this morning?
05:59Yes.
05:59When you wake up, the inflammation is in your leg, no?
06:04No.
06:05No.
06:05Yesterday and Saturday, I did quite a lot of walking.
06:10Ah, okay.
06:11Because it's important in rest, when there appears inflammation in your leg, okay?
06:17Ah, okay.
06:18Put your leg in up, okay?
06:20And move your ankle, okay?
06:23Right.
06:23Because that inflammation is not good.
06:27Ah, it's not good.
06:28Okay?
06:28Lay down.
06:29Lay down a minute.
06:31I'll give you an echography, okay?
06:34Because it's probably with that kind of inflammation, you have a thrombosis, okay?
06:40Okay.
06:41He thinks it might be something like thrombosis or a blood clot somewhere, not just the normal swelling that you would expect from a broken leg.
06:52Obviously, a blood clot is quite dangerous because if it moves and it goes into your lung or it goes somewhere else, then obviously it could be fatal.
07:04Put the leg in up, okay?
07:05And move your ankle, okay?
07:08And you only down your leg to come here, okay?
07:13Oh, until I see you again.
07:14Yes.
07:15Yes.
07:16Okay.
07:17Okay, gracias.
07:18De nada.
07:19Adios.
07:20So the bad news is the doctor's orders for the next few days is I need to elevate my leg and go back on the bed until later in the week.
07:30I think he's been overdoing it a bit, haven't you?
07:32Yeah, I think maybe I've been too eager to get back on my feet and to get back at helping around the house.
07:38Yeah, I think I'm going to just have to be a bit more patient.
07:41I mean, neither of us are very patient people, are we?
07:44And you're not one to sit down, I think in the 21 years that we've been together, I've never seen you sit down for longer than about five seconds.
07:54So for John, this is, you know, very hard and very weird and I'm not surprised that you've, you know, you've kind of been overdoing it.
08:04You're going to have to be a bit more patient.
08:05Fully renovation fit yet.
08:06You know, you're the one that needs renovating.
08:13Luckily, your dad's here.
08:15Yeah, thank goodness.
08:16Although he doesn't.
08:17There's one man in my life I can rely on.
08:20He's the person I've been running around after, making him tea and breakfast and dinner.
08:26That's John out of action for at least another couple of days until he can go back to the hospital for an ultrasound to confirm whether he does indeed have thrombosis or not.
08:36But there's nothing like a long-awaited delivery to raise spirits.
08:46All the bits and pieces we've been ordering for the bathroom upstairs are arriving.
08:55Yeah, they're different to what I was expecting.
08:58There's still none.
08:59The tiles have just arrived and they don't look the right colour to me.
09:08I mean, they're nice.
09:09They're fine.
09:11They're just not the colour I was expecting.
09:14That would be annoying, wouldn't it?
09:16Is there a wrong one?
09:17No, I'll speak to Andrew.
09:18We'll bring them in for now.
09:19Yeah, bring them in.
09:20Make sure that they're right.
09:21If needs be, we can get them quickly anyway.
09:25Because basically, but you see from that picture, it looks a lot more green.
09:29We saw a kind of bluey-green tile in the shop that looked really nice.
09:34And I said, oh, have you got this in more of a green?
09:36So we looked and we ordered this in more of a green.
09:38This, to me, still looks like a bluey-green.
09:40I kind of was imagining a warmer green that would look nice with the wood and the gold.
09:47Kind of more like a natural green, like a leafy sort of green.
09:53Yeah, so these are definitely the ones, yeah?
09:56OK.
09:58Yeah, yeah, no, it does.
09:59The ones that he showed me in the catalogue, he didn't have a sample.
10:02Yeah, no, I'll send you a picture now.
10:04OK, see you in a bit. Bye-bye.
10:06You can't trust what you see in a picture or in a catalogue.
10:10You need to see it.
10:11You need to hold it and touch it and see it with your own eyes in the flesh.
10:15Whatever it might be, it doesn't have to be tiles.
10:17It could be absolutely anything.
10:19You need to see it in the flesh and then you can decide.
10:24Upstairs, with the aircon unit now removed,
10:26Peter's got another amazing wall covering going up in Joy's bedroom.
10:31Joy chose this lovely sort of jungle-looking paper.
10:35She likes all the animals on there.
10:36I'm just a bit worried that I might have to chop the head off an animal
10:40or something like that.
10:41I'm also afraid that the elephant might be behind the bed
10:46and you're not being able to see the elephant on the wall, you know.
10:50So, obviously, you don't buy elephant wallpaper and then put a bed over it.
10:56And after her experience in Albion's bedroom,
10:59Jasmine is continuing her apprenticeship in the family trade.
11:02So, that matches with that, we know.
11:05So, does this one match with the one underneath it?
11:08Like, we've pulled the two of them across, Jas.
11:10Hang on.
11:11See, we've got a match there.
11:13There.
11:13And this is the top all the time.
11:16So, that's got to be up there first.
11:19But, yeah, it was a bit complicated for my little brain.
11:25The bananas...
11:27Wait, let's see.
11:28So, yeah, if we turn this one round, we're going to match the other.
11:31I think we might have to turn them all around.
11:33Let me just quickly look at the picture.
11:35Having my dad here is an absolute godsend.
11:38He knows what he's doing.
11:39He'll always make the right decision.
11:42And this is our first piece to go on.
11:44With the sheets now in the correct order,
11:46a starting point picked and the walls already sanded and prepped,
11:50it's time for the paste.
11:52And then, the first sheet of paper.
11:55So, that's all the right way up and everything.
11:59It goes on here.
12:01Two inches at the top.
12:02So, that's our first piece.
12:08It's very striking.
12:10And it definitely has the rainforest theme that she wanted.
12:16The biggest problem here is this...
12:19This here.
12:21Yeah.
12:22Do you want me to hold these wires out of the way a bit?
12:24If you can, yeah.
12:26Yeah.
12:26You just need to know where they...
12:28Where they are.
12:30There they are.
12:30There.
12:32Okay.
12:35Yeah, it's a fiddly old thing, but...
12:36Yeah.
12:38There you go.
12:38You can...
12:38You just have to keep being careful.
12:41But the good news is that the sloth's face is...
12:44It's okay.
12:45The stupid things that you end up getting worried and stressed about,
12:50you know.
12:52But I just kept thinking,
12:54oh my God, she's going to be so upset.
12:56Yeah.
12:59The sloth's...
13:01It's got a light coming out of the middle of its face.
13:12I just kept cutting the snail's bottom off.
13:15I mean, that's the thing, you know,
13:18being in a vegetarian and vegan house,
13:21so you can't be chopping off the animal's eggs.
13:23I know.
13:25Oh, thanks, Dad.
13:26It looks great.
13:27You know, it is quite handy having a grandad who's so good at decorating
13:33because it means that they've been able to have their rooms looking so fantastic.
13:38I'm sure she's going to love it.
13:51Down on the Costa del Sol,
13:53it's now been eight weeks since John broke his leg.
13:56And after a less than positive check-up with the doctor,
13:59he's been back for a follow-up scan.
14:01Apparently, I have thrombosis,
14:03so basically a blood clot in my leg.
14:06So I was hoping I would be up on my feet
14:09helping decorate,
14:12helping renovate,
14:13helping Jazz,
14:14but the doctor's orders are
14:16I have to keep my leg up for another week.
14:19So I'm back on the sofa,
14:21leg up,
14:24Jazz's dad,
14:25decorating without my help.
14:29Anyway,
14:31onwards and upwards.
14:32Let's hope it gets better in a week or so.
14:34It could have been worse, right?
14:36And I have to be grateful
14:37and consider myself lucky that it was nothing worse.
14:41But still, it just doesn't seem fair.
14:43He's got new medication
14:44for the thrombosis.
14:49I think he was trying to run before he could walk
14:51and probably overdoing it a little bit.
14:55This is another setback
14:57Jasmine and John can ill afford.
15:00But keen to keep John's spirits lifted
15:03as well as entertain the kids,
15:05Jasmine has an idea.
15:10Someone I met when I first moved here
15:12called Gabriella.
15:13She's a vegan chef
15:15and she runs a bakery in Estepona
15:17and she invited us to come down
15:19and cook some desserts with her.
15:22And what's nice is at the end of it
15:23we can take some sweet treats
15:25back to John.
15:30Hi, Gabriella.
15:32Hi, how are you?
15:33Welcome.
15:35How are you guys?
15:37I don't know if you can make some cinnamon rolls.
15:39Cinnamon.
15:39Cinnamon rolls.
15:40Oh, Salvi, what do you think of that?
15:43Yummy.
15:44Yummy.
15:45Come on, let's go.
15:46That's Joy's favourite.
15:47Come on.
15:48I was quite pleasantly surprised
15:50by how easy it is
15:53to be plant-based
15:55and vegan
15:56here in Spain.
15:58In the supermarkets
15:59there are plenty of options.
16:01There are online groups
16:03where people share different information.
16:05there's a vegan food truck
16:06that goes around
16:07there's a market
16:08plenty of restaurants
16:10with vegan
16:11and plant-based options.
16:14So, guys
16:15the ingredients
16:16we have here
16:17soy milk
16:18mixture of sugar
16:19yeast
16:21vegan butter
16:22vanilla
16:23and here we have a flour
16:25we have
16:26here a mixture of cinnamon
16:28with sugar
16:29and walnuts.
16:32I'm going to say
16:33this looks like
16:34it's going to be delicious.
16:35There's so many ingredients.
16:42Dip it in.
16:44There you go.
16:45Fantastic.
16:45It's like a puff of flour.
16:47Now,
16:48you can take this yeast
16:49see
16:50and you just crumble it like this.
16:52I've never seen this before.
16:54I prefer this one
16:55because it's giving more structure.
16:57We're getting all the secrets now
16:59all the inside secrets.
17:02Every day's a school day.
17:04I love it.
17:08It smells delicious.
17:10Is it?
17:10It hasn't even started cooking yet.
17:12It's so fast.
17:13I love the smell of fresh.
17:14You can't ever do that.
17:16It's really, really nice
17:18to be able to do something like this
17:19with Joy and Albee.
17:20It's not something
17:21that I would probably do
17:23at home with them
17:23because my baking skills
17:25are useless.
17:27Mummy, have a little go, please.
17:29Yeah, let mum have a go.
17:30I haven't tried yet.
17:32It's like a machine.
17:36Who needs one of those machines
17:37when you've got a mummy?
17:40My dad was vegetarian
17:41when we were growing up.
17:43My mum wasn't,
17:44so we all ate meat at home.
17:46But I think I had an awareness
17:48that vegetarianism was an option.
17:53We are ready to roll.
17:54Here we go.
17:57That's it, Albee.
18:00Look at this.
18:01See how huge it is?
18:03Fat, giant, fat.
18:04This is going to be so...
18:05Cinnamon roll.
18:07When I was six, nearly seven,
18:10I decided that I didn't want
18:12to eat meat anymore
18:13and then became vegan
18:15just after Joy was born.
18:18So, 11, over 11 years ago now.
18:21Oh, wow!
18:23Be careful.
18:25They, like, rose up.
18:27They are gigantic.
18:28They are gigantic.
18:31These are the best cinnamon rolls
18:33I've ever had in my life.
18:35by a country mile.
18:37They are amazing.
18:38Oh.
18:39Thank you so much.
18:41You're very welcome.
18:43It's been my pleasure.
18:44What do you think
18:45about those cinnamon rolls?
18:46Delicious.
18:46On a scale of one to ten.
18:49Eleven.
18:50Eleven!
18:50That is so good.
18:52Best I've ever tasted.
18:53So, I think we better
18:54box them up for the rest
18:55and take them home to Daddy.
18:57Otherwise, you'll never forgive us.
19:02Bye, guys.
19:03Thank you, Gabriela.
19:05Bye.
19:06See you soon.
19:07I couldn't actually believe
19:09how amazingly they turned out.
19:12Probably because we had
19:13a professional helping us
19:14and John loved them.
19:16The kids loved them.
19:18We'll be eating them for days.
19:20There were so many of them
19:21and they were so delicious.
19:23Oh, no.
19:23Oh, we've got a tip for you.
19:25Tell Daddy how to eat it.
19:26Oh, yeah.
19:26You have to eat it from the middle.
19:28Look at the dog.
19:29Eat it from the middle?
19:30No.
19:30You take out the middle part
19:32then you break it out
19:33and you eat it from the middle.
19:35Yeah.
19:35So, I have to pull the middle out?
19:36Yeah.
19:37Yeah.
19:39So nice, right?
19:41Oh, my God.
19:42That is actually amazing.
19:43The next morning,
19:52it's back to the grindstone
19:54for Jasmine.
19:57I just popped out
19:58to get some more paint
19:59for my dad
20:00because he just needed
20:02a little bit more.
20:04As amazing as Carlos has been
20:06and he's very capable
20:08of doing lots of different things
20:09and has already proven that.
20:12You know, maybe I need to start
20:13getting some other help in.
20:18It's looking more and more challenging
20:20to be finished the whole house
20:23before summer.
20:25I just really want to get
20:27the main areas done,
20:29the bedrooms,
20:29the living room,
20:30the kitchen,
20:31the garden,
20:31the pool,
20:32the balcony,
20:33the driveway,
20:33you know,
20:34just the main areas.
20:36Not much to ask.
20:37Hi.
20:44Hi.
20:46How are you?
20:48Good.
20:49I've been to the vets.
20:50I've got the dog's cream
20:53for his eye.
20:54Glamour.
20:55I know.
20:56I've been there.
20:56I went to the headwear shop as well.
20:59I've got my dad's paint.
21:01I'm starting to panic slightly.
21:03You know,
21:04I was supposed to have
21:05someone else coming today
21:06to do the underfloor heating
21:07and they've not been able to come.
21:09Yeah.
21:09I mean,
21:10we still will be 10 days away
21:12from that bathroom
21:12even thinking about being ready.
21:15I think the hill,
21:16the mountain that lays ahead of us,
21:17I think Carlos is,
21:20needs help.
21:21I don't think we can do it
21:22with all the Carlos
21:23and his guys anymore.
21:25Well,
21:25I feel like we've barely
21:27gotten started really,
21:28have we?
21:28I was expecting the top floor
21:30to be done by now.
21:31I'm starting to wonder
21:32what have we done?
21:36Because if we don't
21:37crack on with this,
21:38we're going to still be living
21:39in a building site
21:40by the time it gets to the summer.
21:42I was thinking the same.
21:44I think our dream
21:45of doing it floor by floor
21:46might be slightly naive
21:49and out the window.
21:50We just have to now
21:51just crack on.
21:51Crack on with everything we can.
21:53I think there is
21:54virtually zero chance
21:56of us getting everything
21:58done by this summer
22:00without some extra help.
22:04You know,
22:04I think we're going to need
22:06to bring out
22:07the big guns somehow.
22:09I'm going to go
22:10and get the kids then.
22:12Bye.
22:13Sorry, I can't do it.
22:14Won't be long.
22:16You'll have to do twice as much.
22:17You hope it won't.
22:18You hope it won't be long.
22:20The last time we did
22:22a renovation project
22:24on our house in England
22:26was just after I had
22:29given birth to Albion.
22:31And this time around
22:32it's a lot harder.
22:33It's in another country.
22:35It's in a different language.
22:37You know,
22:37I think we need to get
22:38multiple things going on
22:41at once
22:42and the only way we can do that
22:43is by having more people
22:45working here.
22:52While my dad's been here,
22:59he's been trying to find
23:00bits and bobs to do
23:01and one of the things
23:04when we were out this morning,
23:05he decided
23:05we should paint the front door.
23:08What are you doing out here?
23:09Hi.
23:12I'm trying to do a video.
23:15Hello, you're that old man.
23:16I think the front door
23:17with my hoodie and my crutches.
23:19I think the front door
23:19is quite important,
23:20they're new.
23:22I think the front door
23:23is very important.
23:24So that colour
23:25is what we've chosen
23:26and I actually quite like it.
23:27It's only had one coat so far,
23:29primer.
23:29When you compare it
23:30to the colour
23:31that we've got
23:31of the other blue
23:32around the rest of the house,
23:33it makes me think
23:35we might need to change
23:37the rest of the house.
23:39It's not a small job,
23:40it's only made
23:40a scaffolding and platter.
23:43And upstairs,
23:45there have also been
23:46some changes
23:46as despite all the challenges,
23:48progress is being made.
23:51Jasmine's finally got
23:52tiles she's happy with
23:54and Brent on site.
23:56He's an expert tiler
23:57who also does
23:58underfloor heating
23:59with 25 years of experience
24:01on the Costa del Sol
24:02under his belt.
24:03I feel like an end
24:07might finally be in sight
24:08to this epic saga
24:10that is our family bathroom.
24:13It must be more
24:14than two months ago
24:15now that John,
24:16while I was away,
24:17took the decision
24:18to just get the guys
24:19to rip out
24:20the whole bathroom.
24:21Then when we started
24:22to get back on track,
24:23Carlos had someone
24:24to do the underfloor heating,
24:26someone else to do
24:27the herringbone tiling
24:28and both of them
24:29let him down.
24:31But now I do feel like
24:33we're getting somewhere.
24:35Hi.
24:36Hi.
24:37Oh my gosh.
24:39It's so good, isn't it?
24:40I love it.
24:40Yeah, yeah.
24:41Come out well.
24:42Oh, it looks amazing.
24:44Yeah.
24:45I'm so glad I changed
24:46the tiles from the other ones
24:47that I didn't like as much.
24:50The first tiles I ordered
24:52for that bathroom,
24:53when they arrived,
24:54I looked at them
24:55and I thought,
24:56actually, I don't like them.
24:58They just looked really
25:00sort of fake rustic
25:02as opposed to genuinely,
25:05like, authentically rustic.
25:08So I sent them back
25:08and luckily I was able
25:09to exchange them
25:10for something else
25:11and the ones that I've got now,
25:12I really, really love.
25:14It's looking brilliant.
25:15Yeah, looks nice.
25:16There's a bit of grout tomorrow.
25:18So that's it.
25:19Then you'll be finished.
25:20Do you want a cup of tea?
25:21Yes, please.
25:24Yes, we've had a few knockbacks.
25:26Yes, it's taken a lot longer
25:28than we'd hoped,
25:30but of course,
25:31in the end,
25:32it will look amazing.
25:36With the bathroom
25:37well underway,
25:38Jasmine has a little
25:39post-school pick-up adventure
25:41planned to find ideas
25:42for Joy's jungle-themed bedroom.
25:45I've heard that Estepona
25:47is known as the garden
25:48of the Costa del Sol.
25:50So it's quite fitting
25:52that Estepona
25:53should have its own orchidarium.
25:56It's been around
25:57for more than 10 years
25:58and has over 1,300
26:00different species of orchid
26:03as well as nearly 5,000
26:05other tropical plants.
26:07Living here,
26:09we've got to go and see it,
26:10haven't we?
26:17Joy's bedroom
26:18is a sort of
26:20rainforest,
26:21jungle theme
26:22and so hopefully
26:24we might find
26:24some nice inspiration here.
26:28It smells...
26:29Oh, this is nice.
26:31Joy,
26:32imagine if we could
26:32make your bedroom like that.
26:35With the glass stones.
26:36The glass stones.
26:38Oh my goodness.
26:38We as a family
26:41are very much
26:44nature lovers,
26:45animal lovers,
26:47tree huggers,
26:48you know,
26:49we're slightly,
26:50well,
26:51I'm definitely
26:51a slight hippie at heart.
27:00It's like a tropical
27:01oasis here,
27:02isn't it?
27:03We can use the app
27:13and then we can see
27:15if the app gets it right.
27:19Fire star.
27:19Fire star orchids.
27:21I've got an app on my phone
27:22which when I'm going around
27:24and I see beautiful flowers,
27:25I take a picture
27:26and it identifies the flower
27:29and once Albion took a picture
27:31of me with the app
27:32and it came out
27:33that I was a lady orchid.
27:36Let me see what you are.
27:39Stand there.
27:42Ready?
27:46Albion,
27:46you are a lady orchid.
27:48What plant are you, Joy?
27:53Lady orchid.
27:54Oh, we're a family
27:55of lady orchids.
27:56We should feel right at home
27:57here in the orchidarium.
28:02Look at that stripey one.
28:04It's like a zebra.
28:06And these ones look...
28:07They look like a duck
28:09with a hood on.
28:10A duck with a hood on.
28:12Where did that come from?
28:13I love your imagination.
28:17Joy, look at this waterfall.
28:19I want this on my balcony.
28:23All right,
28:23Veruca Salt.
28:24And I want a pony.
28:30That's beautiful, isn't it?
28:33I think I've read about this one.
28:36It's got a really nice smell.
28:39Have a sniff.
28:40No news.
28:43It's, um...
28:45It's...
28:45No, I don't...
28:45I'm actually...
28:46Let me...
28:46All right, all right.
28:47I'll smell it.
28:47I'll smell it.
28:48It smells like rotten meat.
29:01It attracts flies to pollinate it
29:04by imitating the smell
29:07and the look
29:08and the texture of rotten meat.
29:11Shall we carry on through there?
29:12I'm going to take a picture of this plant.
29:22I know it's probably
29:24a bit ambitious
29:25to think that Joy's bedroom
29:27might be anything even close to that,
29:29but it's definitely
29:30given me some ideas
29:32and some food for thought
29:33about what we can do with her room.
29:42Back at the house
29:45and in the bathroom,
29:46the herringbone tiles
29:47are looking great
29:48and the underfloor heating
29:50and suites are in
29:51so the bath surround
29:53can be tiled
29:53while Carlos
29:55and the rest of his team
29:56bring in the rather sizable sideboard
29:58that will house the sink.
30:00Do you want to remove the legs
30:03or not?
30:05No.
30:10Careful.
30:12I think they've done this before.
30:38While there may now be rapid progress
30:40in the family bathroom,
30:41there's still one first floor room
30:43that hasn't changed a bit.
30:45Whilst actually not in that bad nick,
30:48the ensuite bathroom
30:50accessed via Joy's walking wardrobe
30:52should really be next on the list.
30:54What are we going to do about this bathroom?
30:56Obviously, by now,
30:58we'd planned to probably change it.
31:00This was supposed to be done by now,
31:01wasn't it?
31:02Mm-hmm.
31:02But, obviously,
31:04with the other bathroom
31:06having taken so many months
31:08to get it done...
31:10And it's still not done.
31:13I'm actually thinking,
31:15do we even need to change anything in here?
31:17It's not a very, you know...
31:19It's functional, isn't it?
31:21It's more than functional.
31:22It's fine.
31:23Like, minimum we could probably do it
31:26for...
31:26It's, like,
31:28six or seven thousand euros.
31:31I think we should wait,
31:33spend that money elsewhere,
31:34and then,
31:35if we have
31:35the time and money,
31:37then do it.
31:38Yeah, our bathroom's leaking.
31:40This one is functioning properly,
31:41so, I don't know,
31:42have we just talked ourselves out
31:43of doing anything in here?
31:45For now, I think so.
31:46I think we underestimated
31:47all the additional costs
31:48of just me
31:49not even being able to...
31:51Yeah.
31:52...filling a skip.
31:53You know,
31:53we've just paid guys
31:54to rip out that stuff
31:55and fill that skip.
31:57I mean, I was always
31:58going to do that,
31:59but I just can't do it.
32:00I can't believe
32:00you're so inconsiderate.
32:02You broke your leg.
32:03You cost us all this money.
32:05You know, I'm not earning money.
32:07And you're not earning.
32:08I'm not earning money.
32:09I'm costing us more money
32:10and manpower
32:11because I can't do it.
32:12I think this bathroom...
32:14I forgive you.
32:15I forgive you.
32:18With the decision made
32:19in one bathroom
32:20and progress continuing
32:21over the next few days
32:22in the other,
32:23it's not the renovation now
32:25causing concern
32:26but one of the pets.
32:28Astro is the dog
32:30with nine lives
32:31because he has so many times
32:35done crazy things
32:36that have put his life in danger.
32:39And his latest adventure
32:41was jumping off of the roof terrace.
32:47The dog caught sight
32:48of a cat in the garden
32:49and he decided to jump up
32:52over this wall
32:54down onto the roof tiles there
32:58and then he slipped off
33:00and fell down into the pool
33:02that's got no water in it yet
33:04because we need to fix it
33:06before we put water in it
33:06because it's leaking.
33:07Miraculously,
33:09he's completely fine.
33:10He hasn't broken anything
33:12and the vets had a look at him
33:15and said he seems to be
33:16all right, miraculously.
33:19But that has really shaken me up.
33:21It doesn't really seem possible
33:22that he's come out unscathed.
33:25Despite numerous delays
33:45along the way
33:46there's been a surge of activity
33:47in the family bathroom
33:48and with all the finishing touches
33:51now in place
33:52Jasmine's grabbing John
33:53to take it all in.
33:55This bathroom has been
33:58the bane of my life
33:59for the past couple of months.
34:01I mean, at points
34:02I thought it would never get finished.
34:04It felt like the kind of room
34:05you kind of went in
34:06and you got out of it really quickly.
34:08So you went in to have a wee
34:09and you do your wee
34:10and you got out as fast as you could.
34:11Like, genuinely.
34:14And that's the bathroom
34:15with the very damp ceiling.
34:18What are you doing?
34:20Let's see how damp it is.
34:21That went in my mouth.
34:29I think it's like
34:29ten years of...
34:31Neglect.
34:31Neglect.
34:37It's looking great in here now, isn't it?
34:39Finally.
34:40Finally.
34:42What's your favourite bit?
34:44Those tiles.
34:46And the toothbrush timer.
34:48What's your favourite?
34:49I don't know.
34:50I quite like the massive sink
34:52and the wooden unit.
34:53That is beautiful.
34:55But I hadn't actually realised...
34:57Cos I hadn't just seen this.
34:58I brought it the other day.
34:59I hadn't actually realised
35:00it was a toothbrush timer.
35:01Well, it is now.
35:02No, no, it's great.
35:03I mean, it feels like
35:05it shouldn't have been
35:06as painful as it was,
35:08but let's hope
35:10the next three bathrooms
35:11that we have to do
35:12aren't as painful as this.
35:13Yeah, let's hope
35:14they don't take three months each
35:16because otherwise
35:16we'll be here for a year
35:18doing bathrooms.
35:23That bathroom
35:23will probably always remain
35:25the best bathroom
35:26in the house.
35:27Cos all the blood, sweat
35:29and tears
35:29that have gone into it.
35:31There's one tile
35:33that when it gets caught
35:33by the light of the mirror...
35:34I quite like the fact
35:36that they're slightly...
35:37I mean, they're meant to be
35:39slightly healed beauty, aren't they?
35:40I like it.
35:41I don't think there's
35:42any problem with that.
35:43I love it all.
35:44I think it's good.
35:44You've done well.
35:45I take all the credit.
35:52I really love that bathroom.
35:55I chose everything
35:58that I wanted.
36:00I really went with my heart.
36:02You know, everything
36:03came from the heart.
36:04There's all these things
36:05that have appeared
36:05that I've not seen that.
36:06There's a bottle of...
36:08Mmm, fragrance.
36:11It's that when Albie's
36:12made a particularly
36:13poopy smell.
36:15No, it's for you.
36:17I know they say
36:18that kitchens and bathrooms
36:19sell houses
36:20but I think it's right.
36:22I think, you know,
36:24that bathroom is
36:25testament to that expression.
36:27In our last house
36:28that we did up
36:29in the UK,
36:31my favourite...
36:32One of my favourite rooms
36:33of the house
36:33was our en-suite bathroom.
36:36Straight up.
36:37It was, you know,
36:39just nice.
36:40You could sit in there
36:41for ages.
36:43Come on then.
36:45Let's go back to our
36:46slightly rubbish en-suite.
36:47How leaky en-suite.
36:52Over in Joy's bedroom,
36:54with Peter's decorating done,
36:56it's now up to Jasmine and John
36:57to transform the room
36:59with lighting,
37:00furniture
37:00and those all-important
37:02finishing touches.
37:04And John's finding
37:04his renovation feet again
37:06with a bespoke tree-themed
37:08shelving unit.
37:12Initially, we started
37:14collecting driftwood
37:15so that we could build it ourselves
37:16because we thought
37:17the tree could be made
37:17of driftwood
37:18because we're so close
37:19to the beach.
37:21But that didn't work.
37:22So then we basically
37:23contacted someone else
37:24and asked them
37:24if they could
37:25sort of build it
37:26and design it.
37:28Which they've done.
37:29They've sent it to me.
37:30Now all I've got to do
37:31is assemble it
37:32and put it on the wall.
37:33And as it costs
37:34just over £380,
37:36John had better
37:37be up to the task.
37:39If this even vaguely works,
37:41I'll be amazed.
37:41How am I meant to get
37:47that in there?
37:48This is like
37:48literally
37:49a jigsaw puzzle.
38:00Don't worry,
38:01it's the man
38:01with the broken leg
38:02up the ladder.
38:05One shelf up.
38:07Already got the glue out
38:08to repair it.
38:11It's all fine,
38:11it's all fine.
38:12Nothing to see here.
38:12There will be shelves
38:13by nightfall.
38:17Meanwhile,
38:18Jasmine's found
38:19a thrifty upgrade
38:20to a bed
38:20she paid £100 for.
38:23I bought these beds
38:25secondhand,
38:27mine and Joy's beds,
38:29just in a bit of a rush
38:31because we were moving in.
38:33And they were this
38:34grey fabric,
38:37upholstered with
38:37this grey fabric.
38:39Which is fine,
38:39you know,
38:40not offensive.
38:41But underneath it's got
38:42a really actually
38:43quite nice velvet.
38:44So I'm trying to take
38:45all of this
38:47cover off of it
38:49so that we can reveal
38:51a much nicer finish,
38:54I think,
38:55underneath.
38:56And that will mean that,
38:58you know,
38:58it's almost been like
38:59a new bed for Joy.
39:01Get those pliers.
39:04It's going to be
39:05a long afternoon
39:06for Jasmine and John,
39:07but with Albion's bedroom
39:08and the family bathroom
39:10already looking fabulous
39:11and Joy's room soon to follow,
39:14phase one of the build
39:16and the first floor
39:17is nearly complete.
39:18The biggest challenge
39:20has been having the time
39:23to sit down,
39:25decide on things,
39:27do the shopping,
39:28going out,
39:29finding little unusual quirky things.
39:31I'm feeling exhausted.
39:33I feel quite emotional
39:36about it, actually.
39:48It's another sunny
39:50Costa del Sol morning
39:51and Joy's bedroom
39:52is now ready to show off.
39:54Right.
39:55It's the moment
39:57you've been waiting for.
40:01She wanted this
40:02rainforest theme.
40:04I haven't gone too mad
40:06with it,
40:06but I hope it's got enough
40:08for her.
40:10You know,
40:10I actually have got
40:11a bit of butterflies
40:12in my stomach.
40:14Can I go in?
40:15Let's go in
40:15and I can't wait
40:16to see what you think.
40:17I hope she likes it.
40:19I'm sure she will.
40:20It looks beautiful.
40:20Joy's bedroom
40:25previously
40:26was just
40:27meh.
40:28It was nothing, really.
40:30It didn't look
40:31very exciting.
40:33It was really dark.
40:35You couldn't open
40:35the blinds.
40:36It was just quite bland.
40:40Oh!
40:42Oh, my God!
40:44What do you think?
40:49It's so cool.
40:50Now it just
40:56looks dreamy.
40:58I love it.
41:00I want to swap
41:02bedrooms with her.
41:04I mean,
41:05the shelf is so cool.
41:07Like,
41:08who do you actually
41:09know that has
41:09something like this?
41:11The Driftwood bookshelf
41:12is a really big statement.
41:14It just combines
41:15her two loves
41:16so perfectly
41:17because she loves reading
41:18and she loves nature
41:19and so that brings
41:21them both together.
41:22I think John did have
41:23a little bit of a challenge
41:24on his hands with it,
41:25but I think he's done
41:26a brilliant job
41:27putting it all together.
41:28That's pretty.
41:32Do you like the hammock?
41:33Finally,
41:35I won't have to put
41:35all of my teddies
41:36on my bed
41:37and therefore
41:37have no space for myself.
41:39Yeah, exactly.
41:41A teddy hammock.
41:42Who knew such a thing
41:42existed?
41:43Is it what you were
41:44expecting?
41:46Even better.
41:48Is it?
41:50Aw.
41:50I think there's quite a few
41:54different styles
41:55and different textures
41:57in there,
41:58which I really love.
42:00But I just love
42:00all the little quirky
42:02bits and pieces
42:02that I found
42:03and putting them
42:06all together
42:06in a way that
42:08just turned out lovely
42:10and somehow
42:11they all just work.
42:14It's just beautiful.
42:16What about the desk,
42:17the chair?
42:18Do you like all that?
42:19The chair is very pretty.
42:21I like the...
42:23this.
42:24It's beautiful.
42:25It's really soft as well.
42:27The desk is basically
42:29a slab of natural wood
42:30that's been sanded
42:32bits and varnished
42:33and it just,
42:35you know,
42:35that whole
42:35natural rainforest theme.
42:38You know,
42:38what could be more
42:39rainforest theme
42:41than a big slab
42:42of natural wood?
42:43Do you think
42:44the wallpaper looks good?
42:46I think it really fits
42:47with, like,
42:47everything else.
42:49in here.
42:50It's just so cute.
42:51There's all those
42:52lovely animals.
42:53It works so well
42:54with the rest of her room.
42:56I think that was
42:57the sort of
42:57inspiration, I think,
42:59for everything else
43:00that went on
43:01around it.
43:05Thank you so much.
43:06It's so pretty.
43:08You're welcome.
43:08I don't know.
43:11Daddy did loads as well.
43:13Yeah, I heard him drilling
43:14like 24-7
43:15into the ceiling.
43:19Oh.
43:20Well, I'm glad
43:21you love it, darling.
43:23Her room
43:24looks so perfect
43:25that it's almost
43:26not real.
43:27It's almost like
43:28AI's just created it.
43:30But it is real
43:31and it's beautiful.
43:35I can't even describe
43:37how happy I am
43:38to have
43:39the rooms finished
43:41that we've done.
43:42It's
43:43amazing.
43:44I am delighted,
43:47obviously,
43:48that we've finished
43:48some areas
43:50of the house.
43:52But,
43:53honestly,
43:54if we have
43:54the same amount
43:55of obstacles
43:56doing the rest
43:57of the house
43:58as we did
43:58with the upstairs,
44:00then I could
44:01very easily
44:02fall out of love
44:03with this whole thing.
44:05To get this
44:06done by the summer,
44:08we are definitely
44:08going to need help.
44:10You know,
44:14he was here
44:15with us
44:15from the start,
44:16but I think
44:17we need
44:18a bit more help.
44:20We're going to
44:20take away that bar,
44:22add a door,
44:22which will go
44:23straight through
44:23into the gym.
44:24OK.
44:25My own gym.
44:30This
44:30is
44:32that much
44:34concrete.
44:34We're essentially
44:35breaking these
44:36to a bank.
44:37Right.
44:38Do you think
44:38I look
44:38protected
44:39enough?
44:40I think
44:40you look
44:40protected
44:41enough.
44:43Those will
44:44always be there
44:45as part
44:45of my house.
45:09to a
45:11to be
45:12open for
45:13to be
45:14is
45:14that
45:15that
45:15on
45:15is
45:17open for
45:18anything.
