00:00On this vote, the yeas are 60 and the nays are 40.
00:04Three-fifths of the senators, duly chosen and sworn, have voted in the affirmative.
00:09The motion is agreed to.
00:11A vote that might mark the beginning of the end of the U.S. shutdown.
00:16Nearly all Republicans in the Senate, and eight Democrats who broke from their party,
00:21backed a funding bill to reopen the government.
00:25I know that the strain of these weeks has been immense.
00:28You all have families, rent to meet, bills to pay, car and mortgage payments.

00:51The deal doesn't include extensions to Obama-era health care insurance premiums,
00:56which Democrats have been fighting to keep, only a promise of a vote on the issue in the Senate in December.
01:03For the U.S. president, it's a win.
01:06I think based on everything I'm hearing, they haven't changed anything.
01:09And we have support from enough Democrats, and we're going to be opening up our country.
01:15It's too bad it was closed, but we'll be opening up our country very quickly.
01:18The shutdown has dragged on for more than 40 days, leaving hundreds of thousands of federal employees without pay.
01:25Many low-income Americans fearful of losing essential food aid.
01:30And flights disrupted after air traffic controllers were left with partial paychecks.
01:35The funding bill will now go before the Republican-controlled House of Representatives,
01:40where it could be passed as soon as Wednesday.
