00:00I looked at my hands and saw all the blood and that was everywhere and blood everywhere yeah
00:08could smell it yeah yeah you could smell it see it on the carpet a grizzly murder tears through
00:16the heart of a small town as a high school football star makes a deadly decision 38 stab
00:22wounds strangulation and the gunshot in that moment did you realize what you'd become I knew
00:31that more likely I was either gonna die or that I was going to prison today Julius Mullins is
00:38confronted like never before about the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend's mother Manuela
00:44Allen police told you there was evidence of quote excessive rage at the crime scene they asked you
00:51if you were thinking of someone else at the time were you thinking of Melanie enraged by the police
00:57that she was off having sex with other boys no you're sure about that was it really a robbery
01:05turned bad as he has long claimed or was there something much darker at play hidden behind this
01:12young killer's vacant eyes it sounds like an evil game of chess that you're playing with these people's
01:19lives yeah sadly I guess you could say that was this straight-up revenge to punish Melanie for
01:26breaking your heart do you think you might have murdered Manuela to even the score for the heartache
01:34that you suffered

04:04you
04:05has got a reason to
04:07to do this to her mother
04:10Mullins pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 55 years in prison
04:15questions remain about that fateful night and Mullen's true motives was it
04:21actually a burglary gone wrong or were there even darker forces at play I headed
04:27to a prison two hours outside Dallas to find out
04:36okay all right I want to ask you today to help us understand the boy you were at
04:4418 that 18 year old boy who went off the rails and that's why we're here tell me why why did
04:52you want to talk to us today I figured once once your organization reached out that y'all have
04:59questions because everybody who has watched the other interviews that I've done they said that
05:05it left them with nothing but more questions Mullen's has spoken to media organizations in the
05:11past but it yielded only superficial answers why did you blame Peter I have no comment I
05:18wanted to probe beyond what was on the record and behind those vacant eyes before we get into the
05:26case I want to go back you come from what looks like a loving two-parent family yeah it was I watched a
05:35video of you at 14 at a birthday party you seem surrounded by love you're smiling is that an
05:49accurate picture of your life at that point yeah certain times there was a certain days there were
05:55ups and downs kind of like any other family you struggled in school you were left back at one point
06:01nothing especially unusual about that you excelled on the football field yeah right that was something
06:07I really loved doing was sports not just football but Mullen says he gave up on football in school
06:14and gave into juvenile delinquency it seems that you strayed from that path why do you think that was
06:21I started to get introduced to those things like drugs uh running the street stuff like that and when
06:29I got more involved with those people the things I was doing the things that I was doing right it
06:36just didn't seem more appealing to me in his sophomore year of high school Mullins found love
06:42with a teenage girl who was everything he was not Melanie Allen 4.0 grade average robotics sports I mean she
06:53was really the whole package and uh and I'm am I right that she was the the class valedictorian in her
06:59year yeah yeah she was so was this kind of like opposites attract yeah I I'd say that in the beginning
07:11it was kind of young love when she agreed to be your girlfriend how did that make you feel
07:17I was elated yeah I was elated I felt like uh I think any man would like the highest guy in the world
07:24like there was nothing that you couldn't do you know what I mean she brought you home right to her
07:31family to meet them and uh and it sounds like the Allens embraced or at least tolerated you right
07:37yeah yeah you could say that for the first time Mullins breaks from his baseline flat affect and
07:45surprises me with an awkward grin but I can't quite tell what's behind it her mother embraced me her
07:52father was a uh a little bit tougher as all fathers are Melanie's mother Manuela was a beloved teacher at
08:00the only high school where both Julius and Melanie were students everybody says she was a saint she
08:08was she was the type that when she would walk in like you can you would just feel happiness you
08:12know you wouldn't feel like oh this is another day you know like even when she's just walking through the
08:18halls she just had a smile on her face and would always give an encouraging word to to whoever was
08:24around her and when you started dating her daughter did um did she sort of um try and help you you went to
08:33her um I was a confidant for advice sometimes yeah she would give me advice on certain things uh and what
08:41about Melanie's father Peter what was the vibe with him it wasn't bad it was just to show that just
08:48don't don't break my daughter's heart basically but Mullins was the one left heartbroken at a certain
08:56point she's ready to move on right is that fair there was a kind of falling out between the both of
09:02us over a party that she went to and that's kind of how we split our separate ways but right now big
09:08breakups are are always hard but this one must have been pretty crushing for you yeah it was a it was a
09:15love point in hindsight can you see how much of your identity was at stake in that relationship
09:22I definitely would you kind of get a sense of lostness and you kind of don't know what else to
09:27do you later told police that you were quote to her in the break in the aftermath of the breakup
09:32yeah a little bit yeah what were you feeling frustration uh hurt anger uh confusion because why
09:43she couldn't tell me herself and I had to find out from her friends stuff like that rage there was a
09:49lot of anger frustration going through my head and I was really willing to hurt whoever did it five
09:53months before the the murder you sent Manuel Allen a Facebook message saying she broke my heart and I
10:02just can't take it is that how you felt like you just couldn't bear it yeah for a little while no at
10:08that time I had uh turns of drugs alcohol anything to numb the pain Mullins was spiraling and taking it
10:16out on Melanie and her family you say you still loved her after the breakup did you really I did yeah
10:25for months Mullins tracked Melanie's social life online and tried to enlist her friends and family to
10:32somehow win her back all the while seething about the breakup by the summer she started dating other
10:39people by the way so were you yeah right but I'm sure it was a bitter pill to swallow yeah is that fair
10:47I'd say yes but I mean it didn't really surprise me I wasn't really like hurt by it because I kind of
10:54figured that that's really where her mind was in the first place here Mullins begins to downplay
11:00the impact of losing Melanie and his fixation on her maybe to deflect me away from malicious motives
11:06so I dig in it does seem like you have ill will towards her I mean from some of your your messages
11:15to friends you called her terrible things it might be it might have to freshen my memory on it she's a
11:23bitch she's a sadistic bitch I realize what a hoe she is I'll slash her tires she just needs to hop
11:31off my talking about her gets me heated there's a possibility I could have said something like that
11:38because that's where my head was at the time how would you describe that anger well not going away
11:45anytime soon like at that moment building I wouldn't say it was building it was just it was
11:51there it just it wasn't there was nowhere it was going to go I'm now making my way to the heart of
11:57the crime Mullins wants the murder to seem almost like an accident a burglary gone wrong but he can't
12:04make that case if he admits to obsessive rage there's a reference in the record to Peter getting upset
12:12with your behavior in the aftermath of the breakup so much so that he even changed the locks on the
12:19house what was going on that would cause him so much concern that I'm not really sure because I
12:27didn't like I didn't tell their parents her parents that we had broken up we I just stopped coming and I
12:33didn't come over anymore you seem to be spiraling do you think that was the source of their concern
12:41it turns out that Melanie's dad was right Julius Mullins was a serious threat not only to Melanie
12:48but to the entire Allen family all this leads up to July 7th 2019 right Julius in as much detail as you
12:58can recall tell me what happened that night
13:01it's the summer of 2019 in Olney Texas and teenager Julius Mullins is mentally spiraling down after a
13:20breakup with his girlfriend Melanie Allen things aren't going well for young Julius you've been kicked out of
13:28your house your aunt asks you to leave for breaking curfew three times in a row
13:35now homeless Mullins splits his time between a former classmates apartment the high school gym and
13:41committing serious crimes around that time the end of June you commit a robbery of a building owned by the
13:52father of one of the kids that you said hooked up with Melanie was that a bit of revenge honestly no at
14:01the time I had nowhere to go so my goal at the moment was to try to see if I can get come up on some type of
14:09money so I couldn't get my own place to stay just so I could get a food I'll have a bed to sleep in you
14:17know stuff like that and the reason why I did that was because I knew that they had weapons after
14:25getting a taste for felony theft Mullins sets his sights on the home of his ex-girlfriend Melanie Allen
14:30targeting her dad Peters extensive gun collection all this leads up to July 7th 2019 had you at that
14:40point already decided to break into the Allen's home not at the moment I mean it was on my do list
14:48because I knew that they had weapons too it was on your to-do list yeah it was on my to-do list but it
14:53was you have a to-do list of of crimes Julia said tell me what happened that night 2 a.m you ride your bike to
15:05the Allen home right okay so I uh I took my bike around towards the uh the garage window and I uh walked
15:16in through the garage through the bedroom the Allen's had recently returned from a three-week trip to Europe
15:23but we're back home when Mullins entered there were at least four people in the home yeah and cars
15:30outside so you knew they were at home right yeah yeah that didn't dissuade you no because I really
15:37they weren't really my focus what do you mean like I wasn't there for them I was just there for the
15:43weapon right but if you're breaking into a home right to rob them according to you right wouldn't it
15:50matter whether people were home or not it would yeah when I went in the first thing I did was I
15:58checked all the rooms you see who all was there here Mullins again reveals a calculating and criminal
16:05mind recounting how he prowled inside the Allen's home before striking you walked through the house
16:11and checked all the rooms yeah I checked all the rooms yeah I was there that's how I knew hurl the
16:15brother was upstairs wow were you not uh worried about alerting someone by while you canvassing the
16:22house honestly not really I just that I've always been a sneaky individual Melanie's brother was upstairs
16:32playing video games her father was asleep on the living room couch and her mother Mullins mentor
16:39Manduela was sleeping in the master bedroom you're armed uh no I wasn't until later on that I was armed
16:48really you're gonna break into a home but you know the the homeowner is a gun owner and you're not armed
16:58so you canvass the house and then you go back to the bedroom yeah why because now I know that's where
17:05they have they have a safe but I needed a key to get into it so I figured their keys would be in the
17:11bedroom so that's why I went back to the bedroom and I started looking around but I had opened up
17:17the uh the nightstand and that's where I found the nine millimeter and at that point that's when I became
17:22armed looked around in the closet didn't really find anything no keys did you startle her she wakes
17:33up I accidentally bumped something and then that's when she woke up that's when I saw that there was a
17:39butterfly knife on the dresser I kind of panicked I kind of just went into kind of a dark spot grabbed the
17:47knife what do you mean by dark spot like didn't really it's kind of I guess fear so this is kind
17:57of a moment of truth right she she wakes up and now you have to decide decide what you're gonna do yeah
18:03didn't there wasn't really any time for thinking I do remember that I grabbed the knife and then I
18:09when she got up I jumped on top of her and I started stabbing her I do remember that she's struggling
18:15yeah a little bit uh pushing eventually at one point we were both standing and uh I brought her
18:23to the ground after that that's when I started kind of coming to realizing what I had just done
18:29were you just in the red zone at that point kind of uh I was just acting at that moment it was on
18:39impulse I wasn't there was no thought going into it I just kind of did it and then afterward looked
18:48at my hands and saw all the blood and that was everywhere and blood everywhere yeah you could smell
18:54it yeah yeah you could smell it see it on the carpet you say you looked at your hands in that moment
19:02did you realize what you'd become yeah at that moment I knew that more likely I was either gonna
19:09die or that I was going to prison 38 stab wounds mostly to the head right said uh in the police record
19:20she was just panicked at that point yeah she uh it really sounded like she was fighting for breath
19:27I was kind of in my own head if I'm being real with you what do you mean by that Julie and now I'm
19:33sitting here starting to think so all the things that I had literally just done now I'm processing
19:37through what I had just done and and what did you feel if anything I just the things I was thinking of
19:45was how do I not let her family see what I had just done covering it up yeah basically yeah and what's
19:52the plan now you strip the bedding yeah basically I took all that off uh wrapped her inside of it to
20:00make it a little bit easier so I could drag her and uh get rid of her so that when they woke up they
20:07wouldn't have to see that get rid of her through the garage yeah yeah I took her through the garage uh
20:14by yourself yeah by myself I dragged her out towards the back uh at this time that's when I got the car
20:22put it in neutral pushed it around back by myself had it in the alleyway waiting and then I uh took
20:29her the rest of the way brought my bike back there too put it in the trunk put you put her in the trunk
20:35no I put my bike in the trunk okay and I brought her through the grass in the backyard then uh lifted
20:41her and put her in the uh driver's side passenger seat was that difficult it was she was uh she was
20:49kind of heavy but I did a lot of power lifting at school were you not afraid that somebody in the
20:57house would hear the commotion I knew that nobody had stirred really no nothing nobody knew anything
21:04okay so now Manuel is in the car bikes in the car you got the car keys what's the plan now now my uh
21:16main main plan is to just take them to the lake Mullins drove out to a nearby lake and dumped her body
21:24in the brush by then it was almost six in the morning you get on your bike and you flee the scene
21:30yeah where'd you go uh after that I went straight to the uh uh high school the coach was letting me
21:40stay for a little while in the uh gym so I went in there and they had a shower and stuff in there and
21:46got rid of my clothes uh cleaned myself up did it occur to you Julius in the course of this
21:57oh my god I was a troubled teen and now I'm a teenage murderer yeah it did once I started coming to
22:10after she was on the ground in the house I uh like I said I started processing all these things and I
22:17was I didn't know what to do what what was going to happen next and I started just I guess accepting
22:24my fate accepting that I'm more than likely going to die in here still Mullins fate wasn't sealed
22:32in fact for several days after the murder he avoided suspicion and even helped cast blame on the victim's
22:38own husband and son the whole town is now in shock and fear right and rumors abound about Peter and
22:49Darian being responsible you helped spread those rumors right honestly uh I did tell the police
22:58yeah well the one day after the murder you messaged your mom on Facebook and told her you heard her son
23:06Darian killed her you remember that yeah so now you're deflecting displacing the blame onto innocent
23:15people is that okay in your head at the time no I mean I knew it was wrong but yeah I still did it
23:27so soon you reach out to Melanie and you offer her support shoulder to cry on is it possible that you
23:37calculated this whole thing that if she suffered a catastrophe like losing her mother it could provide
23:45an opportunity to get Mel back in your life did you murder her mother to try and drive her back into your arms
23:53all right no party I'm done don't you have the blood on your hands I felt guilty for that you felt guilty
24:04because frankly you were guilty interview with a killer new episode next Saturday at 8 eastern and
24:11pacific only on court tv a former porn actor caught in a deadly father-son love triangle I'm not gonna stop
24:19fighting to prove my innocence the love triangle beheading trial live coverage weekday mornings
24:258 7 central on court tv
24:27after brutally murdering Manuela Allen in the middle of the night 18 year old Julius Mullins blamed members
24:41of the victim's family for the vicious crime and then settled back into normal teenage life
24:46four days after the murder you're posting on snapchat right and you're mugging for the camera like you have
24:54not a care in the world how do you account for that I was doing drugs and anything to numb the pain
25:00uh most of the times like even in a lot of those videos I was more than likely high meanwhile
25:08one by one the Alans are brought in and interrogated by police
25:13you may think that we're looking at you on this deal but a lot of the stuff we get more information
25:21is so we can put the whole picture together
25:25all the traumatized Alans come under suspicion because they're in the house
25:32and how could this happen by an intruder without anybody hearing
25:39I know the truth and the truth is I didn't do it
25:45well but you don't know the truth because you said you weren't awake when it happened
25:50well it's chilling stuff you know they are clearly in fresh shock and grief
26:03did you figure that Peter would be in the cops crosshairs
26:08I did yeah
26:11meanwhile Mullins used the guise of consolation to shrewdly reconnect with his ex-girlfriend Melanie
26:18the victim's daughter soon you reach out to Melanie and you offer her support shoulder to cry on
26:28what state did you find her in well when we uh agreed to meet she I could tell she didn't trust me
26:37she had went to a public place and we were in the car together and she had a knife beside her
26:44Melanie wasn't fooled within the first 48 hours of the murder she armed herself with a weapon and went
26:51to meet Mullins she was already suspicious of you yeah I remember asking her what the knife was for
26:58and she said well I think it's a good idea to carry it on me at all times
27:02at one point Melanie directly asked you if you killed her mother
27:06I told her no
27:08she texted me and was like was it you
27:13I told her Melanie I still love you
27:17I would never do something like that to you
27:19why did Melanie suspect that you were responsible for murdering her mother
27:25I'd say because at that time I was getting myself involved with people who weren't really focused on
27:35caring about another person
27:39could it have something to do with the several months worth of messages that you were saying to her
27:46to her friends to her mother profane threats
27:50I guess so yeah
27:53I mean her father was concerned enough to change the locks
27:56it sounds like the Allens were afraid of you
27:59was Melanie afraid of you
28:02not that I know of no
28:04at least before
28:05so now you've secretly taken her mother's life
28:10and you heroically step in to console her
28:14I still did care about her like I said
28:17but
28:18I
28:20still honestly did want to bring her some kind of consolation
28:24if that makes sense
28:25it doesn't make sense because
28:27you're the one that inflicted
28:29that inflicted the harm
28:31yeah I know
28:31so you can't be the person to console her
28:34I understand that now
28:35is it possible that you calculated this whole thing
28:38that if she suffered a catastrophe
28:40like losing her mother
28:42it could provide an opportunity
28:45to get Mel back in your life
28:47no
28:49I didn't plan on doing none of that
28:51I didn't try to
28:52do that just so I can gain her attention or anything
28:56well that's kind of what happened
28:58it is
28:59it is what happened
29:00yeah
29:00listen to this exchange with
29:02the Texas Ranger
29:04she was uh
29:06sending me nasty texts
29:08and
29:08this and that
29:09but then
29:10turned around and ate her
29:11just hanging out
29:12so she had us
29:13told us to be a guard
29:14yeah
29:16so I had to get close to
29:17yeah
29:18but maybe I've gotten closer
29:21since then right
29:22at first it was
29:23ugly stuff
29:24and then now it's
29:25we're doing good
29:26we're doing good
29:28we're doing good
29:30did you murder her mother
29:33to try and drive her back into your arms
29:36no
29:37you were
29:39actually gratified
29:41that the murder brought her back into your life though
29:44right
29:45yes I was
29:47glad
29:49I guess you could say that
29:50she was talking to me
29:52soon after meeting Mullins
29:54Melanie tipped off police about her troubled ex
29:57when police focused on him
29:59a truer picture of the crime came into view
30:02video surveillance showed him riding his bike away from the lake where her body was found
30:07a footprint next to the body matched Mullins sock
30:10and his DNA was found inside the Allens home
30:14we know you buy some ones out there
30:17after four hours of intense police questioning Mullins cracked
30:22we killed her face in love
30:25then adding insult to injury for the Allen family Mullins told police the victim's husband Peter
30:34was the mastermind behind the murder
30:36even your confession
30:49is accompanied by the vicious lie
30:53that Peter Allen put you up to it
30:55even when you're telling the truth you're lying
30:58you've murdered
30:59one of Melanie's parents
31:01and now you're
31:03trying to get the other one
31:06right
31:07to take the fall
31:10for that murder
31:11yeah I didn't really
31:14at that moment realize that
31:16that wasn't really crossing my mind
31:17but is that evil
31:19Julius
31:20in your mind
31:21now
31:22yeah I'd say that
31:23that is
31:24it's sadistic
31:24despite all the evidence of rage
31:28Mullins is sticking to his story
31:30that his only motive was theft
31:32it sounds to me like Mullins is trying to soften the severity of his actions
31:37by claiming the murder was unplanned and unintended
31:40but I don't buy it
31:42now you claimed this was a robbery gone wrong
31:47right
31:48but that doesn't make sense to me
31:50you knew Peter Allen had a huge gun collection
31:53right
31:54you also knew that he kept his guns in safes
31:57in four safes
31:59right
31:59and you really had no way
32:02to get inside those safes
32:04why would anyone break into a house
32:06unarmed
32:07that is owned by a man
32:13with many many guns
32:16right
32:17when he and his family are there
32:20also Mel and her family
32:22had just been away in Germany
32:23for three weeks
32:24if it was a robbery
32:25wouldn't you do it
32:26when they were away
32:28I mean honestly
32:30I didn't really ask those questions
32:32you could have backed out of this whole caper
32:35when Manuela woke up
32:38right
32:39he would have had a lot of explaining to do
32:41but it would have been better for all concerned
32:44than committing a murder
32:48to cover up
32:49a lesser crime
32:50there has to be something else
32:53at play here
32:54Julius
32:54do you accept that?
32:59I'd say no
32:59I'd say it was just
33:00something that was
33:01upon impulse
33:02like I said
33:03I thought that
33:04it would be a good idea
33:06to
33:07go and just get the weapons
33:09so I could sell them
33:10make money
33:11Mullins insists
33:12he was only looking
33:13for a quick payday
33:15but this murder
33:16looks more like payback
33:17it sounds more like
33:19an evil game of chess
33:20that you're playing
33:22with these people's lives
33:24yeah sadly
33:25I guess you could say that
33:26was this straight up revenge?
33:28the vicious murder
33:40of Manuela Allen
33:41didn't seem like a burglary gone wrong
33:43as this killer is claiming
33:44it looked to me
33:46much more like a crime of wrath
33:48the violence of the attack
33:51indicates that
33:52it was deeply personal
33:5438 stab wounds
33:56strangulation
33:58and a gunshot
33:59was this a crime of passion
34:02to punish these people
34:04and make them suffer?
34:05no
34:06do you think you might have
34:08murdered Manuela
34:09to even the score
34:11for
34:12the heartache
34:13that you suffered?
34:16I'd say no
34:17really?
34:18because
34:19that's what it sounds like
34:20when you read the record
34:21in its entirety
34:22that wasn't
34:24that wasn't
34:26my thoughts
34:27to me
34:29Mullen seems
34:29emotionally flatline
34:31a stone-faced wall
34:32of denial
34:33about his motives
34:34but former army
34:38interrogator
34:39Greg Hartley
34:39an expert
34:40in non-verbal cues
34:42co-host of the popular
34:43web series
34:44The Behavior Panel
34:45sees a nervous man
34:47who's hiding something
34:48what I'm trying to do
34:53is to figure out
34:54whether their mouth
34:55is saying
34:55what their mind
34:56is thinking
34:56he screams emotion
34:58you just got to be able
34:59to see it
35:00look at the finger
35:04here's a beautiful example
35:05this guy is so braced
35:07if he comes in
35:08he's prepared
35:09he's locked down
35:10he has his feet
35:11braced under the chair
35:12I guarantee you
35:12he is feeling emotion
35:13about the interview
35:14and he's trying to contain
35:15so he doesn't explode
35:17but when he's pressed
35:18pretty hard
35:19you see those two fingers
35:20move up against the phone
35:21how are you?
35:22these are adapters
35:22adapters are ways
35:24we release nervous energy
35:25Hartley flags
35:27two momentary breaks
35:28from Mullen's
35:29flat baseline
35:30that reveal
35:30a surprising emotion
35:32for a killer
35:32who says he's coming clean
35:34joy
35:35she brought you home
35:38right?
35:39to her family
35:39to meet them
35:40and it sounds like
35:41the Allens embraced
35:43or at least
35:44tolerated you
35:45right?
35:46yeah
35:46yeah you could say that
35:48which one is more accurate?
35:50her mother embraced me
35:51her father
35:52was a
35:53little bit tougher
35:55as all fathers are
35:56if you want to know
35:59who this guy really is
36:00the only time he is amused
36:01the only time he's happy
36:02is around these
36:03bad boy comments
36:04look at it
36:05yeah
36:06yeah you could say that
36:07when I remind Mullen's
36:09how he used to trash
36:10his ex-girlfriend Melanie
36:11Hartley says
36:12pleasure leaks out
36:14of his stony mug again
36:15she's a bitch
36:17she's a sadistic bitch
36:19that's contained pleasure
36:23is all it is
36:24for Hartley
36:25our interview reveals
36:27that Mullen's
36:27is feeling something
36:28but it's not sympathy
36:30for his victims
36:31shame is always present
36:33that is always present
36:36I think about that a lot
36:37disappointment
36:40he's showing emotion
36:43but I don't think it's sorrow
36:45sorrow has a very distinct look
36:48the center of your brow tips rise
36:51and you show sorrow
36:53there's no sorrow in his face
36:54he doesn't feel it
36:55he doesn't even try to pretend
36:57to feel their pain
36:58I don't think he feels any remorse
36:59I think he was angry
37:00about his relationship
37:01with the young woman
37:02and in our interview
37:05Mullen's is about to prove
37:06Hartley's point
37:07Julie's tell me the truth
37:09did you love Melanie
37:11or did you hate her?

37:33I'm done
37:34don't you have the blood
37:35on your hands?
37:36I felt guilty for that
37:38you felt guilty
37:38because frankly
37:39you were guilty
37:41interview with a killer
37:42new episode
37:43next Saturday
37:44at 8 Eastern and Pacific
37:45only on Court TV
37:47in 2019
37:54Julius Mullins
37:55was a broken hearted teenager
37:56when he stabbed
37:58strangled
37:58and shot his ex-girlfriend's
38:00mother dead
38:01he claims his only motive
38:03was robbery
38:04but the crime looks a lot more
38:06like one of rage
38:07and I'm calling him out on it
38:09was this straight up revenge
38:11to punish Melanie
38:14and Peter Allen
38:15maybe
38:16for breaking your heart
38:17by violently taking away
38:19the person closest to them?
38:21no
38:21I felt like
38:23that the only revenge
38:24that I would be given
38:26was
38:26to break into their house
38:28and steal their weapons
38:29and
38:29sleeping with their best friend
38:31like I did
38:31you're saying that you
38:32slept with her best friend
38:34to get back at her
38:35you robbed her house
38:37to get back at her
38:38so doesn't that mean
38:40that revenge was
38:41the driving force
38:43behind your actions?
38:44yes I do
38:46I do admit that
38:47but it wasn't planned
38:49to kill her mother
38:50at that point
38:51Julius tell me the truth
38:53did you love Melanie
38:55or did you hate her?
38:57I did love her
38:57still
38:58but once she was with
39:00those guys
39:00it wasn't the same
39:02you know
39:02but your actions
39:03suggest
39:04hate
39:05you've condemned her
39:07to a life
39:09of
39:10torment
39:12she brought you
39:13into that family
39:14can you imagine
39:16what it's like
39:17for her
39:17every day
39:19to blame herself
39:21for
39:23bringing into the family
39:24the man that would
39:26viciously murder
39:28her mother
39:28and I can't
39:31I'm struck
39:33by your
39:34your flat affect
39:35almost like
39:37you're looking
39:37through me
39:38almost like
39:39a nine mile stare
39:40that's what
39:41the viewers
39:42are going to see
39:43and of course
39:45they're gonna feel
39:46what I'm feeling
39:47which is
39:47this is a man
39:49who's not
39:50feeling
39:51the depth
39:52of the
39:53harm he's done
39:55I can understand
39:57that
39:57I don't understand
39:59how you can
40:00sit here
40:02for
40:02like
40:03an hour
40:06an hour
40:07and a half
40:07so coldly
40:09Julius
40:10how can we
40:11understand that
40:12to
40:13let emotion
40:15go
40:15is to be
40:16uncontrolled
40:17which I'm not
40:19going to do
40:19now I understand
40:21that
40:21the things
40:22that I have done
40:23in my past
40:24were
40:24screwed up
40:26messed up
40:27very dark
40:28and sadistic
40:28but
40:29I've worked
40:30through those
40:30things
40:30and they don't
40:32it bothers me
40:34yes
40:34bothers you
40:35it's something
40:37that I have
40:37to live with
40:38to live with
40:39his crimes
40:40Mullins has
40:40turned to God
40:41and says he's
40:42now a practicing
40:43Christian
40:44are you familiar
40:46with the sin
40:47of wrath
40:48defined as
40:51an intense
40:52and uncontrolled
40:53anger
40:54often accompanied
40:55by a desire
40:56for vengeance
40:57distinguished
40:59from
41:00ordinary
41:01anger
41:01by its
41:03lack of
41:03reason
41:04and balance
41:04wrath can
41:06manifest as
41:07hatred
41:08resentment
41:08and a desire
41:10to inflict
41:10harm
41:11violence
41:12even
41:13blood
41:14thirstiness
41:15wasn't
41:17wasn't this
41:17a crime
41:17of wrath
41:18Julius
41:19I would say
41:22yeah
41:22and your
41:24wrath
41:24sentenced
41:26Melanie
41:26to a living
41:27hell
41:27you agree
41:28with that
41:29I agree
41:30you told
41:32you told our
41:32booking producer
41:33that you're
41:35no longer
41:36a killer
41:36and that you
41:37would terminate
41:38this interview
41:39if we called
41:40you that
41:41do you remember
41:42that
41:42yeah I do
41:43here you are
41:45responsible for
41:47the lifelong
41:48torment of an
41:49entire family
41:50and you're
41:51quibbling over
41:52being labeled
41:53a killer
41:54isn't that
41:56selfish of you
41:57I'd say
41:58it wasn't
42:00selfish
42:00but I would
42:01say that
42:02it is
42:05not right
42:06to label
42:08by someone
42:08by what they
42:09were
42:09instead of
42:10what they
42:10are
42:10even if
42:12your
42:12God forgives
42:13you
42:14you'll always
42:16and forever
42:16be a murderer
42:17Julius
42:18right
42:19yep
42:21Mullins
42:23never terminated
42:24the interview
42:24but he did
42:26end it with
42:26more self-pity
42:27than sympathy
42:28for his victims
42:29you have hope
42:30I do
42:32even though
42:34you've deprived
42:35that family
42:36of it
42:36you're better
42:37off than
42:38they are
42:38on that level
42:40right
42:40and on
42:43so many levels
42:44you're fortunate
42:45compared to them
42:46I'd say less
42:48they have a lot
42:51more than I have
42:52the only thing
42:52I have
42:53is
42:53something to look
42:56forward to
42:56and they
42:57have something
42:58to think about
43:00because they
43:01lost it
43:02you think
43:03you're
43:04less fortunate
43:06than they are
43:08I do
43:09yes I
43:10took their
43:11mother out
43:11of their lives
43:12but
43:12they have the
43:14ability
43:14just like you
43:15and
43:16they can do
43:17whatever they
43:18want to do
43:19wow
43:20that is a
43:21remarkable
43:22lack of
43:22empathy
43:23Julius
43:23I think
43:27they have
43:27more
43:28opportunities
43:30and
43:33resources
43:34that are
43:34available
43:35to help
43:37them
43:37to help
43:38them get
43:38through what
43:39I did
43:39how I
43:40destroyed
43:41their family
43:41did you
43:43read the
43:44victim impact
43:45statements
43:46that were
43:47submitted to
43:47the court
43:48I don't
43:49think I
43:49did
43:50when Mullins
43:51was sentenced
43:52Manuela Allen's
43:53husband and
43:54daughter shared
43:54their eternal
43:55grief with the
43:56court
43:56their heartbreaking
43:57words
43:58seemingly lost
43:59on this young
44:00killer
44:00even now
44:02before my
44:05mother was
44:05murdered
44:06I had a
44:07happy family
44:07now I have
44:09a shell of
44:10my former
44:10home
44:11and our
44:13family has
44:13been destroyed
44:14my life
44:16is a living
44:16nightmare
44:17and I will
44:18never be able
44:19to escape
