Deepfake scam uses King and PM’s faces to promote non-existent investment schemes

Scammers have used AI-generated deepfakes of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to promote a fake investment scheme on social media.   MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said the MCMC has since removed the clips, but more deepfake videos featuring Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin and Genting Group executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay later appeared, promising 200-fold returns for RM1,200 investments. 00:30into parting with their savings. He said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission,

00:36MCMC, quickly took down the clip after receiving his report.

00:40And it was a very insult to His Majesty because he was on a visit to the kingdom in Saudi Arabia.

00:49However, hours later, two more deepfake videos emerged, this time featuring Puchong MP

00:56Yeo Bi Yin and Gernting Group Executive Chairman Tan Sri Lim Kokthai falsely claiming their backing

01:02of the same scheme. The scammers promised 200-fold returns for investments, starting at RM1,200.

01:09To expose the fraud, Chong and his team infiltrated the scheme, paying RM1,200 to see how it operated.
