मीडिएशन कॉन्क्लेव में बोले अटॉर्नी जनरल- मध्यस्थता को बढ़ावा देकर ही कम हो सकती है लंबित मामलों की संख्या

राष्ट्रीय कानूनी सेवा दिवस के मौके पर मिशन मीडिएशन कॉन्क्लेव का आयोजन किया गया. इस दौरान मिडिएशन (मध्यस्थता) की भूमिका पर जोर दिया गया.

00:00I have somebody who is not here. I remember her. My dear friend Sadhana Ramachandran.

00:12I think she is standing by my side. Her sister is here. We have spent a long time understanding

00:19and unraveling the dimensions of mediation. I wish she had been here today. I would have

00:27been the happiest person to be by her side. We miss her. The mediation community of India

00:33is missing her. So soon after my appointment, when Sadhana organized a function, I was there

00:40and I said, as Attorney General, I would like to institute awards of recognition for mediators.

00:49Then, of course, you know the officialdom has their own ways of doing and not doing.

00:53And I still feel that at some point of time, when the tag of Attorney General doesn't lie

00:59with me, I may still like to do it in my own little way.

01:04We have a wonderful person here who transformed the Supreme Court into a different environment,

01:11just Korean Joseph. He spoke very little, but he can speak very long. And he can mesmerize

01:17you. I know that. But five minutes, I think, was a long, wrong note to be sent to each one

01:22of them. Having said that, I am so happy to see the student community here. My first brief

01:31when I began my practice in Pondicherry, where I come from, was a legal aid brief. A woman belonging

01:37to a schedule cast community was a property issue and an MLA, a powerful man on the other

01:43side. So I stood by her and then I was able to, you know, navigate that case, as used that

01:51word, in the midst of stiff adversarial, you know, struggles. So soon after, in the bar,

01:59I was practicing in the bar of the office of the public prosecutor, who had a big name

02:05there. So a month later, my senior called me and said, people are telling me you are

02:10beginning your career as a legal aid lawyer, a little bit careful. I was wondering, why

02:17is that wrong? Why is that wrong? So please, all of you ask a question. If you are going

02:24to spend your old time mediating, why is that not good? Why is that not good? If it is going

02:31to be good for all of us, it is going to be good for the nation. Let it be good for the

02:35nation, it will be good for each and every one of us. And when I was asked to speak, holding

02:41this position, I am more a gladiator than a mediator. But I tried to do a bit of mediation

02:48between government and the court.
