00:00It's been 6 years since 50 million Google users had their data breached from a Google
00:04Plus API bug.
00:06And they're doing their best, bless them.
00:10But their security practices are still far from airtight.
00:13Let's talk about Google Docs.
00:14Their access controls are pretty good.
00:16With pass keys and 2FA and malware protection, your account is relatively secure from outside
00:20attacks.
00:21But without using end-to-end encryption, your data is living on the Google servers.
00:25Just kinda… sitting there.
00:27Yes, perhaps vulnerable to data breaches, but perhaps more importantly, subject to the
00:31whims of Google's data collection policies.
00:34Google's privacy policy allows it to collect and process the content you create in Google
00:37Docs for spam, malware, and search purposes.
00:40It saves your search queries and can combine this data with other information, such as your
00:44location and your phone number.
00:46The privacy policy also does not prevent Google from using your Google Docs content and publicly
00:50available information to train AI models.
00:53They love talking a big game about privacy, but they also settled a 93 million dollar
00:57lawsuit in 2023 about deceiving users by continuing to track their location data, even after they
01:03had turned off the location history setting on their devices.
01:06So there's that.
01:07You have been tracking us.
01:09And if you still insist on using Google Docs, for the love of God, enable 2FA, back up your
01:14important documents, avoid uploading any medical or financial info, and check your third-party
01:20add-on permissions.
01:21Better yet, use Proton Drive.
01:22It's end-to-end encrypted, allows easy collaboration, lets you set passwords for each doc, and it's
01:27really pretty.
